Being of Mexican descent I couldn't decide so I settled for breakfast burrito no meat which was substituted with potatoes. And when he mentioned cafe de la olla I thought yes with milk. I recently attended an event at my son's school where Chanos was a vendor. It was my first time seeing them there, and I was glad to see them, as they've replaced other vendors in the past. I had already eaten, but who can resist a burrito?! My son was getting hungry, so I ordered an Asada Burrito for us to share. It was pretty good; the tortilla was excellent. I wasn't a fan of their rice and beans, but the asada was not bad. They had a few salsas to try. They used those tiny salsa containers, which everyone knows. Restaurants use them to prevent over-indulgence, but it takes a while to get enough salsa because they're so small. I understand it's a cost-saving measure. They were also serving Churros ($3), and I got two. They were okay, a bit doughy in the middle, making me think they were undercooked. The guys working the booth were super friendly and attentive. 10/23/25 Nice "hole in the wall type of restaurant in SGV specializing in Oaxacan fare, hand made tortillas (hechas a mano), fairly quick service, delicious eats in a casual setting. Looking for late night eats, I'm too tired to cook & this popped up after driving around what seemed like an eternity. Hubby ordered Al pastor burrito without beans, and Quesabirria with consommé for me & a fish taco! Oh my Golly! The consommé came out piping hot (s little bit on the salty side but great!) Service was 10/10. Cashier was very kind and patient since it was our first time! I was craving a quesadilla and this did not disappoint. We asked for the tortilla to be cooked a little crispier and they delivered. Love their red salsa. The vibe in the restaurant felt very home-y. I love it! I got the asada and pastor soft tacos for $3.69 each. Kinda pricey but it was bigger than a normal street taco. I've driven past this place a million times, and I've always wondered if the food was good. So I decided to look up the menu, and lo and behold, they have crunchy tacos, which is one of my favorites. Chuys used to have the top spot, but every since they moved locations and went cheap on the meat, they've dropped off the list. But I digress, the meat in the taco was a good amount, the shell was super crunchy, and the salsa was on point. I could go for a little more cheese though. I'm also a nachos fiend so I got a small Nachos Supreme. The flavor was there, serving size was there, my only problem was there was only like 10 chips! Chanos is a great local taco shop, but it has NO drive through. Is it a "drive in"? I suppose so, but parking is very limited. There is also some street parking avaliable on Las Tunas and Willard. Chanos is a "hole in the wall" type restaurant. It sits on its own small lot. The Yellow signage is visible from some distance away. It has a small outdoor and open patio. Inside seating and the patio are limited. Inside is pretty hot during summer. Both inside and outside can be very loud. We have had a number of menu items here, but never any of their plates. All of their items we have had a just ok. We just get individual items. Like many comparable retaurants, just get the plates if you want rice and beans with your meal. Many people seem to think their hard taco is really great. We think it is just ok, but definitely worth trying. Their fish taco is good, but Habanaro Grill's is much better. Their soft tacos, enchiladas, and taquitos are all just ok, the taquitos are probably the best of those three items. Their nachos are also just ok. Tips: (1) look on the walls on the inside of the restaurant, they have additional items not on the menu posted. For example, we deinfitely recommend getting the Taquitos a la Oaxaquena instead of the regular taquitos. (2) they people who work here are very nice regardless, but if you can order in Spanish, then it is to your advantage. (3) Sometimes they have made to order tortillas cooked right in front of you on the patio. Check the sinage or with the staff to find out when they are currently doing that. read more

Their tacos and burritos are also amazing, and my husband loves to get the cheese enchiladas because he says they remind him of the ones his mom makes. Chanos Drive In may not be the fanciest restaurant in town, but it's definitely one of the tastiest. I'm from the Midwest and discovered Chanos about 15 or 20 years ago when I was in the area on a business trip. Now whenever I'm anywhere in the LA area, I will make a special trip out to San Gabriel especially for these crispy tacos. I've tried to find similar ones all over Chicago and St. Louis for 20 years and have been unsuccessful. This place is amazing, and this is the first time I was able to bring my family as we were out here on vacation. I got my usual - 3 crispy carne asada tacos and they were amazing! We are so lucky to have CHANOS as our neighborhood Mexican restaurant. They are authentic to the max. We are delighted to see they have Menudo and when I tell you this stuff is delicious you better believe it. Their MOLE is mouth watering yum. And the Chile Rellenos are a house favorite. My husband and brother love their Carne Asada tacos. Their enchiladas are winners as well. I could drink their salsa they're so good. Of all the Mexican restaurants I've been to they have the absolute best beans out there. And their Horchata is a must. They have an extensive menu and we cannot wait to try more things. And the people behind the counter? So kind and sweet and ready to help. A nice change of pace from so many places where the service has gone downhill. Oh and don't forget their breakfast menu. I attended a bridal shower over the weekend . We found it strange that the taco man took the remaining food away with them, they packed in a bag placed it in a container and placed another container on top to conceal it. Normally, whatever food is left , they will leave it there because more guests arrive at a later time and it has been paid for. We contacted the manager about the incident, he claimed they brought extra meat and that was the end of that. He did acknowledge that there was food left over and they took it. So im assuming they had a great dinner on us! Seems like they took advantage because it was just women and were distracted with the event. We had our Mexican go to when we were living in Downtown so we never had a chance to try out Chanos by USC. Not sure if they are run by the same owner but we really like Chanos in Sg. I was looking for a new Mexican spot and came across this place. I tried the Roger Burrito with green sauce and it was good but a just a tad salty. The service was great and the ambiance is ok. The decor is authentic with Mexican traditions. Small eating area outside and inside. The parking lot is small and very limited but you can park on the street also. 4 stars Decided to try a new Mexican place and I'm really glad I chose Chano's. The lady at the counter was very nice and efficient. The restaurant's interior is tiny. I think it only fit 2 tables inside and more tables/seating at the outside patio. At 8am, it was pretty clean and neat. I ordered a side order of chicken enchiladas half red and half green sauce and would recommend the red sauce over green. I also ordered the chili cheese fries and thought it was very good! The chili is meat only and consistency is thick. I definitely prefer a thinner chili, especially if it's going to be on fries b/c I'd like the fries to absorb some of that chili sauce. But man, those fries are to die for. They're soft and spiced (not too salty), just the way I like it. Total came out to $11.22 including tax. Price is ok for food; soft drinks seem pricey (no refills). Portion size is decent. Small on-site parking or street parking. They are like thick crispy corn tortillas split in half and filled with your choice of chorizo con papas or chicharrón in salsa among other fillings.
