Solid spot to grab some quick Chinese food while traveling you so know I'm all for that! Coming here was what was totally good on this given night as they are close to the highway and made our food super hot and very fresh for that delicious Chinese goodness! So of the options I went with the Honey chicken combo and it came with a mound of honey chicken which was sweet but not too sweet but just perfect for the Chinese food goodness you would expect from it! It also came with fried rice which also was yummy and totally hit the Asian food goodness spot even more so when it got mixed up with some of the sauce from the honey chicken as you can't ever go wrong with some sauce on rice! The egg rolls it came with were ok nothing to crazy just rolls of fried goodness but definitely not something I would order here unless it came with my meal. Overall small cool little local spot with some yummy Chinese food to get you on your way I'm sure if I lived in the area I'd be back again at some point to try something else! read more

I was in the inspection business for 14 years so I fumbled at the counter and folded my receipt in half. Ok, so I had no intention of writing a review for this restaurant but after devouring my food last night and eating my leftovers today; I had to. My daughter recommended grabbing takeout from here for dinner last night as this is one of her lunch spots and she said it is pretty good so why not! We ordered the beef lo mein extra spicy, an order of chicken wings, and a shrimp egg roll. Everything was absolutely good; I already love lo mein but the extra spice to it was the cherry on top and it tastes even better the next day! We stopped here tonight on the way to our new home in The Villages because supermarkets were closed due to the upcoming hurricane and we needed to get food for the next few days. I wasn't expecting much because this was a little hole-in-the-wall type of place where you normally get very average food at best. But everything was so fresh and even the vegetable fried rice was great quality, tasty, and full of veggies. And they told me what items had no MSG so I stuck with those for the most part (white sauce). Highly recommend. They even were kind enough to give me a bag of ice because our ice packs for the drive for our food in the car had gotten too warm. read more

That said, it remains the best option for New York-style Chinese take out in Gainesville, given the LOW bar set by its closest competitors. This restaurant is always wonderful. Food is great, always prepared fast. I don't really understand why people are upset about not being able to walk up and order. With all of the people out and about without masks in town, I don't blame them a bit for being careful and wanting to have shorter customer interactions. Recently had a chance to eat takeout from Chan's and it reminded me off all the times this restaurant has fed me when I was in a pinch. Late nights at the office and you need to grab something, this is it. All your favorites, General Tso, Setchuan, lo mein. I recommend the cream cheese wan tons and the veggie lo mein. During this lock down, we've made several attempts at recreating some of our "Chinese" food restaurant meals. My wife and I love the broccoli and garlic sauce concoction that these little joints make, though surprisingly different at each place we go. I won't make one of those silly statements that people here make "the best Chinese in Florida" or "really authentic." not going to happen. What I will say that this is pretty good. We felt like we were visiting prisoners the way they have everything setup to prevent the spread of the virus. The easiest thing to pass them is money (shocker). I jest a bit - it was not so bad. We had to call to order even though we were standing in front of the restaurant for a while waiting to order. Sure, they were busy but how do you answer the phone before you help a customer who is standing there? It's takeout only still. We ordered our broccoli with garlic sauce which had the crispy broccoli that I adore. It was hot, the usual American sweet, but not really spicy at all (I was hoping for this). My wife got orange tofu and french fries (you know, the Chinese style french fries). It's amazing how different each place does a dish so incredibly different that *appears* to be incredibly similar. The tofu was not mushy nor crispy - it was kind of hard. The sauce was as expected kind of sweet. It was good, it was hot, it was average consistency compared to others we've enjoyed. The prices are pretty fair. I'd like to give a 3.5 but that's not an option and the wait to order then being forced to call was silly, the average service, the sweet garlic sauce, the very oily fries, and the hard tofu brings it down half a notch. Fellow Yelpers, I came across Chan's Chinese Take-out walking out of Publix one day I stopped in for the first time and ordered just a small egg drop soup. When I went to pay with my debit card the woman said there was I believe a $10.00 minimum, I had no cash on me. Instead she told me to take care of t next time. I was really shocked and impressed that she trusted me even though it was my first time here. The soup was great and so was the hospitality. Since than. Ended up coming here by mistake. We were coming back from Panama city beach. Drove up from Miami to escape Hurricane Irma.....Anyway...We were on our way back home to Miami. We were looking for food. Everything was closed. We stopped in the Springhills Commons Publix shopping plaza and next to it was Chan's Chinese restaurant. They were OPEN & it was packed. We ordered some fried rice. It was so good! I haven't had rice like that since China Town in Boston. It was fried white rice. I love the traditional style fried rice. It's so hard to find. They were operating with limited supplies too. No power, they ran out of a lot of things and still managed to make some delicious fried rice! read more

A quick place for lunch if you happen to be in the area (as in visiting the nearby zoo?). They are located in the Publix plaza across from the main entrance to the Santa Fe college. The lunch menu includes the usual suspects plus a few extra (like shrimp in chili sauce), which are all served with pork fried rice and a soda for $5.85. Egg roll and/or soup are extra, but for this price, who can complain. The food is fine, nothing special, but we'll probably stop in again. I had shrimp lo mein which was . . . just fine . . . and spouse and chicken with mixed veggies (pretty much broccoli, pea pods and scallions). Portions are is served in individual size round aluminum containers with a plastic lid, comes quite hot. The drinks are Pepsi family so, Coke drinkers, you're out of luck. There are four small tables, should you choose to eat in. Haven't tried the dinner menu yet, but might as they are close enough to our home for takeout, though I am a bit concerned about whether we'll be successful at placing an order over the phone as we don't speak Mandarin and the person who was working the phone while we were there seemed to have minimal English. I usually try to give long and detailed reviews, but this one is pretty simple. If you want quick and good New York style Chinese food. This is the place in gville. It is close to the interstate on 39th Avenue - next to Publix. The food is consistently good and served up fast. I drive from High Springs to pick it up. Worth 45 minutes in the car for good consistent food. Call ahead and they usually have it ready to pick up. Also, they are always nice there. I like that. read more

What do I look for in a Chinese takeout place? Decent food, fast and courteous service, and a clean kitchen. Chan's has a great tasting takeout menu. In the five years I have been purchasing Chinese food from here, I have never felt that the food was microwaved or stale. They have great portions, and very reasonable prices. The service is acceptable, although I often have a difficult time communicating with the person that answers the phone (there's often a lot of noise from the kitchen in the background). But, to be fair, they have NEVER gotten my order wrong, even when I have been absolutely sure that they were going to. They have also always had it ready and waiting for me in about 10 minutes - I'm not sure how they can cook that fast (It would have taken me longer to just get all the ingredients out of the fridge), but they do. In the short time that I often have to wait for my credit card to be charged, I've always noticed the kitchen to be clean and organized. No used boxes or unsightly garbage in view. Additionally, there is no annoying credit card fee's for using your card to make a purchase. Yay! Lastly, I want to share an experience I had recently. I accidentally forgot my credit cad at their restaurant on Friday. I didn't notice until Monday evening, at which point I drove over to Chan's to pick it up. On the way over there I had visions of my card being mailed to ShangHai and disappearing in a nigh market full of counterfeit Ralph Lauren goods. I couldn't have been more wrong. The cashier was very friendly, and asked to see my drivers license. She then pulled my credit card out of the cash register where it was safely locked away and checked to make sure my name matched my drivers license. Only then did she release the card. In the end, I was glad to see that Chan's was not only serious about their business practice, the quality of their food, and the cleanliness of their kitchen - but also the security of their customers ! read more

She's always nice and polite and (I've been there so much) she often even knows what I'd like to order. And sometimes she's thrown in a thank you eggroll, so there's always that! The food was ok..... My complaint comes into play when I checked my bank account and found that I was charged double what my order was. My receipt said the right amount, bank account didn't. I called them and they handled the issue right away, but I have to now wait 15 days until the money is given back to me. This is inconvenient in itself, but what if I didn't have the money in that account and was charged a bank fee?? They called the credit card company to process the refund and called me back to let me know it would take 15 days and that's where it ended. I would think that the right thing to do would at least say, Hey! Come on in for a lunch special one day on us! (Not what I ordered, but it is the cheapest thing on the menu). Nope! Needless to say I will not be returning there. I would rather drive the extra 5-10 min to the one off 43rd. read more
