We have been here so many times and loved it! Their food is excellent quality and service is great. The fish is always fresh and so tasty. My husband loves their creative sushi rolls. My only complaint was that it was quite loud last time we went! Could not hear the conversation at our own table. We've been to Kasai a few times before and this Saturday was our first time bringing friends with us to have early dinner. We reserved booth seating and our server was Adam, who I think is also the manager. Super nice and quick service. He took our drink and food orders after giving us a few minutes to check the menu. My husband was hungry so he ordered general tso's, veggie spring role appetizer, veggie roll with soy paper wrap, an iced jasmine tea, and a Coke with no ice. My order was easier - Chirashi Dinner and iced green tea. Our friends ordered a bento box and pork steamed buns. The restrooms were clean and stocked; happy about that. Our orders arrived around 10 to 15 minutes later and they were all correct, as well as delicious. Everyone liked their food. We spent around $100 including generous tip. Figured would update my review of Lasai as its still one our favorite sushi, Asian food spots. They have Chinese, Korean, Thai dishes as well as vast sushi options. Great to see it busy , super friendly staff, and very cool atmosphere makes for a great dining experience. Everything from the lighting to the decor, and they have Big Screen TV for sporting events. I recently went to this sushi restaurant for lunch, as I had never been and wanted to try it out. The hosts were gracious, and got me seated immediately. Water was brought to my table and the menu, which I went over for a couple of minutes. The place is decorated as you would expect it to be for a strip-mall restaurant, and everything was clean. I went with a volcano roll as I love the baked seafood on top of these dishes, and a summer roll. The summer roll was quite good, though I found the peanut sauce to be a bit on the thin side. The volcano roll was fair, so no complaints there as well. Really, nothing special to write home about... they are a place where you can get some decent sushi at a reasonable price. read more

This is the second time my wife and I have eaten here. Both experiences have been good. We've eaten sushi both times. It's been good both times we've gone so far. No issues with the fish; it's been fresh both times. We've gotten some appetizers like krab Rangoon and the chicken skewers. Those were also good. It's not the absolute best sushi place in Gainesville, for me, but it's in the top 3. The service has also been good both times so no issues there. We've gone on Sunday afternoon both times and it hasn't been crowded. The food comes out as ordered and timely. The decor of the restaurant is fine but nothing special. There's no blinds or tint on the big windows at the front of the restaurant and it can be quite bright inside especially if you sit up front. I'd recommend they address that. A mixed experience on 6/15/2026. The ginger salad was mediocre, just iceberg lettuce, maybe two cucumber slices, no green or red leaves. Dressing bland. The summer rolls with shrimp were awful. Based on the Yelp reviews, I have been wanting to try out Kasai for some time now. I stopped in for lunch and dinner to try out some different menu item. For lunch they offer specials which are priced pretty good. I got the yellowtail & tuna roll which came with a miso soup and salad. Everything was pretty fresh and came out pretty quick as there was not a lot of people there for the lunch hour. I was very satisfied with how many pieces of sushi you had in the lunch special. For dinner, I skimped through many reviews to see which roll I should try. It was between the rainbow and Kasai roll. I went with the rainbow roll and ordered the hot cucumber salad. The service during the dinner service was very chaotic. I came in around 7:30p and the dinner service was dying down. The hostess was somewhat dismissive and told me to wait at the bar area for my food and they would bring it to me. After almost 30 minutes, I went back to the service stand where she was like oh yeah here you go. So definitely I was not happy about that. However, when I arrived home I decided to let that go and indulge into my roll for the night. The rainbow roll's presentation is very pretty. I do appreciate how fresh everything taste and does not have a fishy aftertaste at all. I really enjoyed the hot cucumber salad as well. The cucumbers are sliced julienne style and doused in a very generous amount of hot chili, vinegar, and sesame oil. I could've ordered another round of this. It was spicy and tangy, and very good. Overall, I would definitely go back because the sushi was good and fresh! I would try out the Kasai roll next time for dinner but don't sleep on their lunch menu as well. read more

Beautiful restaurant but very slow service for a non busy evening. My miso soup was tepid, large salad had wilted veggies and the ginger dressing was "off". I left the salad untouched. My salmon maki was mostly rice with very rubbery seaweed on the outside. Where was the salmon? Soy sauce containers were empty. My husband ordered a cooked entree. I believe it can be casual in the evening too. Your preference and level of comfortability. Service: I was sat down immediately. I got my food fairly quickly. I did wish the server checked on me more since it wasn't crowded and I needed more water and was waiting on the check. However, I believe the manager saw that I needed more water and refilled it. Food: About $30 before tip for two rolls that were 10-11 pieces each. I got the Angry Dragon Roll and the Rainbow roll. My favorite of the two was the Rainbow roll. I was a little disappointed at the angry dragon roll not being spicy as indicated in the menu. It was actually sweet. I think it's good but just not what I was expecting. My wife and I had dinner here recently, and while the service wasn't great, we still left a 20% tip. Unfortunately, we forgot to write in the total amount but we did write in the tip. To our surprise, the server decided to add three extra zeros to the tip amount and filled in a new total herself. When we returned the next day to resolve it, we were told we should've called yesterday which we had tried to do for over an hour (calling 12 times), but their phone line was constantly busy or disconnected. Even more concerning, the manager admitted this was not the first time this happened with this particular server, yet offered no apology and only vaguely committed to processing a refund "in several days or over a week." We were told to call back if we didn't hear anything. the manager even admitted to seeing how the handwriting was different on the check in the tip column at the end and for the total. Needless to say, we will never return, and we cannot recommend this restaurant to others. It's extremely disappointing that the management seems to tolerate behavior like this and doesn't take customer concerns seriously. Stealing from guests whether through neglect or intention is unacceptable. We had been here a few times before and have to cross this one off the list. read more

The veggie spring rolls were served as iceberg lettuce wrapped in rice paper, the absolute saddest effort I've ever seen. The server acknowledged that what we received was subpar and apologized a lot, but didn't remove the charge even after we had her take them away. I just ordered a meal for my father-in-law and my wife and I. We got three entrées and one sushi roll. I had somebody in the car holding the to go order so that it wouldn't get slashed around. This is what had when I got home. On top of that I ordered teriyaki shrimp. They were so overdone and obviously just frozen shrimp. Hard rubbery shrimp. And then I noticed that they charged me a five dollar service fee after I tipped well and overpaid for this mediocre meal. The service fee was not disclosed on their website. The roll was good, although I would've gone for some extra spicy sauce with it. Great service. Great location. A very nice large space to go with a group of people. Many sushi rolls are familiar because the sushi chefs have experience from many of the other local sushi joints so you will see favorites. My only suggestion for improvement is that there is a lot of sauce on some of these sushi rolls (such as baked rolls), so you cannot taste the actual components very well. (Same with Ichiban.) I think this is why I prefer sushi from other places like Dragonfly. It's the ratio of rice, fish and veggies and sauce that sets a place apart and showcases the freshness and flavors. But we will come back to try more and keep an open mind. Nice big menu. read more

The good: Very clean. The bad: Not very honest about pricing. The review: Went this weekend, was very happy with (1) how clean the restaurant is and (2) how they renovated it from the previous restaurant (who was not so clean). Informed the waiter that this was our first time here and he advised that they make everything to order and can substitute ingredients we don't like. We thought that was awesome as we do not like cream cheese and most rolls came with cream cheese. When the waiter can to take the order, we asked "what can we substitute the cream cheese for?" He told us we could substitute it for avocado, cucumber, etc. Awesome we thought. We ordered the gyoza, steamed pork buns, volcano roll, Mexican roll, and chicken tempura roll. On the volcano and chicken, we subbed for avocado and on the Mexican, for cucumber. The appetizers were great. The rolls came out and instead of the volcano, we got the Red Dragon (we had thought about getting this one, so just went with it). When the bill came, we were charged $3 more per roll for the substitutions. If this had been told to us, we would have just asked for it to be skipped rather than substituted. No reason for another surprise $10 after getting the order wrong to begin with. The rolls were fine, but not as good as the appetizers. Just double check the prices they will charge you before making the order. The apps were phenomenal, but for the sushi (especially with the extra pricing), volcanic is better. read more

We tend to go here after church when we want sushi that is close by. This is such a good place for quick service and fresh tasting sushi. The layout is your typical sushi type restaurant. It's very clean and customer service has always been perfect. I tend to always get an Alaska Roll everywhere I go and this is the first place that they have a different kind of twist on an Alaska roll. It has salmon skin that is crunchy inside of it. I thought this was only sushi bar, but when I look at the menu, they actually have variety of Asian cuisines, including Chinese Korean and Thai on top of Japanese. The price is very reasonable in my opinion and the rolls were fresh. The best part was how the beer was served with chilled glass cup. First time here and overall impressed. The space is ample, decoration pretty sparse but still a nice atmosphere. Service is prompt and plenty of people waiting on customers, three sushi chefs behind the bar when I visited--and a large sushi bar at that with plenty of seating for customers. I hate when the sushi bar itself is basically just for show and not enough seating (if any) for people to sit up there. The menu is pretty typical American sushi and Japanese restaurant. No real surprises. They have oshinko which is the mark of a committed and serious sushi bar but nothing really esoteric. Most rolls are expectedly American-style everything but the proverbial kitchen sink type rolls but they have traditional ones, too. I had a yellowtail scallion roll, krab delight nigiri (on the menu, I order it anywhere anyways but actually on the menu here) and a smoked salmon nigiri. All were fresh, all were good--the yellowtail was outstanding actually. I also ordered the steamed shumai. It was probably from a bag, frozen, and not made in-house but that's typical. If made in-house the small size would really surprise me because when you hand-make shumai (which I've done) it tends to be bigger and less uniform. Still, it was fine. Light taste but alright. I came here on a Friday night with my husband for dinner! The wait was 15-20 minutes which wasn't bad. The ambiance is that of a casual vibe to grab a bite for lunch or dinner. For the appetizers we did the steam pork bao buns and the sashimi appetizer. Both were great except the bao bun was a tad bit too doughy but the pork inside was flavorful. The sashimi was fresh and tasty! For entrees I had the Kasai sushi roll and my husband had the rainbow roll. Both were delicious but preferred the Kasai over the rainbow roll. The sushi was fresh and delicious! The prices were very reasonable compared to other sushi restaurants in town. I am happy they are here and closer to my home.
