Very easy review- the best dog park anywhere near me. I'm located in north Tempe. Chaparral dog park is in Scottsdale and it's about a 12 min drive for me. This is not the closest place for me to go but it's by far the best. 3 large fenced in dog park areas, many types of friendly and fun pooches will be there for your fur babies to play with. It's fun for me to see all the different types of breeds that come here. Most of the pups are well behaved. I've seen a couple times some negligent owners on their phones so spaced out, don't pick up their dogs poop or watch what their dogs are doing, but as far as dog parks go- it's the best for not having to stress that something negative will happen. I've been to other dog parks in the area that just had bad vibes. This one is nice and happy. It's as clean as a dog park can be, they do regular maintenance to the grounds, and there is a huge parking lot. It's also nice to walk the dogs in that area as well. My boys love it here and I'm happy to take them. Important to note- check the hours on certain days since they do the maintenance and close the parks. I've shown up a couple times forgetting about this and it was closed, so we just went for a nice walk instead. read more

Incredibly envious of this dog park and the neighborhood. In California, we have traveled to many dog parks, and none of them compare to this one. It's clean, people are responsible in picking up after their dog, people are quick to correct dog behavior, and overall people are just generally nice. They have three big dog parks at this dog park. They fluctuate between keeping two open and one maintained. There is an area for dogs under 30 pounds, active dogs, and passive dogs. Can't wait to come back to this dog park when we're visiting. I have been coming here now with my puppers for about a year and a half! Most of the time all is great. I do wish owners would pay attention to their dogs so they can pick up their poop after them, rather than be on their phones or chatting it up with other owners also not paying attention. The result is obviously a lot of poop. However my dog loves it and is visibly happy when we go! Most owners are great and friendly! I've only had a couple issues with super over emotional females. We bring our own water bowl. There are poop bags They recently relabeled from large dog side and small dog side to aggressive players and something else but it still seems to work. Visited Scottsdale over Thanksgiving week with two frenchies. Found the Chaparral Off Leash park closest to our hotel. Took our pups to the passive area. Everyone was very friendly and immediately felt at ease. Our two pups were so incredibly happy making new friends and ran and ran and ran to their hearts content. They pooped so much as well that I ran out of plastic bag. But there were plenty of bags accessible and I was so relieved. We returned 1-2x each day over 5 days. We also walked around the park perimeter on leash and we all enjoyed the grounds. We definitely highly recommend this dog park and will plan to return here with our dogs on future visits to Scottsdale! read more

So, while I do like to bring my pups here and they generally enjoy it ( mostly because of the size & location) there are some red flags to beware of before you bring your pets : Red Flag #1: Ppl are NOT going to watch their dogs. Period. I constantly have to correct other dogs that get too rowdy, that's what causes dog fights. It definitely is one big social club for like the 55+ crowd (no tea no shade). I'm not confident that many of the other dog parents would be able to quickly wrangle their dogs if ever needed (again no offense). Red Flag #2: I come here pretty consistently and every single time I go some random dog fight breaks out, at least one. I've seen this happen for various reasons but the biggest reason is ppl being negligent & not paying attention. ** It seems to be common for the other pet parents to be a bit shady when owning up about their dogs. I've heard huge arguments break out after a fight. Red Flag #3: Theres literally pee & poop everywhere, smells strongly of pet urine ( seems none of the benches or sitting areas are sprayed down). Along with that, a lot of times the grass is wet and muddy making the smell way worse, I ALWAYS have to bathe my dogs after. All and all MOST of the time you're probably going to be fine as long as you keep an eye on your pup! I would recommend leaving your dog(s) on leash for a bit until you guys walk around, feel the vibe of the dogs there and decide if you're going to stay instead of just letting them in immediately. read more

I've been going to the Chaparral Dog Park in Scottsdale for almost 20 years. It is by far and without a doubt the best dog park in the Phoenix metro area. It's clean, well lighted and has three large grassy areas for the dogs to play (although one grassy area is kept closed to let the grass grow). I go there to let my dogs run around and play while I enjoy talking to other dog owners and just relaxing. As a matter of fact over the years I've met some of my best friends there. I've found that the other dog parents are generally polite, friendly and helpful. However, I've occasionally encountered rude people. Generally, the best policy is to just ignore them and walk away. But this past Saturday night (06/25/2022) I experienced something completely outrageous in all my 20 years patronizing this park. My five months old, 21lb. puppy got into a tussle with another puppy as dogs often sometimes do when playing. As soon as I saw it I ran over and grabbed my dog. The owner of the other dog became completely unhinged. He began swearing at me and calling me obscene names. I didn't respond back in kind. I just walked away with my dog to the other side of the park and sat on one of the benches. But this unhappy dog owner wouldn't let the matter drop. He walked over to me and ordered me to leave the park immediately. Really? He's the park ranger all of a sudden? And then it got worse. He began screaming obscene and vulgar homophobic slurs at me. I'm not gay, but what if another person was? No one should be subjected to this kind of verbal abuse, harassment and threats. This man's behavior was completely outside the bounds of all civility and no one should be subject to this type of abuse. People go to this park to have fun and relax with their four legged friends. Over the years I've seen many dog fights. It happens at dog parks. But responsible dog parents handle these situations in responsible and mature ways without resorting to name calling and threats. As a matter of fact in 2011 I was bitten by a dog at this park. The dog's owner ran up to me and asked me if I was okay and whether I needed a ride to the hospital (I was bleeding). I thanked her for the offer, but declined and drove myself to the hospital instead. Before I left the park that night we exchanged emails and she politely told me that she would email me a copy of her dog's proof of rabies vaccination. Ironically in the picture attached, this rude individual is standing in front of the list of rules and regulations for the dog park. Among other things, this list includes no verbal abuse, no threats or threatening behaviors, and no harassment. This extremely angry and vulgar man should take the time to review the Chaparral dog park list of rules. If you see this person at the park I would recommend staying as far away from him as possible. Behavior like his should never be tolerated. read more

It was a nice day out and I wanted to get my pups out to play and socialize with other dogs. Chaparral Dog Park is a bit of a distance from where I live but it had good reviews and I had always wanted to check it out with the dogs. After a recent health scare with one of my pups I wanted to take them out and celebrate their good health. The entire park is huge and has multiple parking spots. I wasn't sure which area was for the dog park so I ended up initially parking further away than I would have liked. While there are signs posted sporadically throughout the park I couldn't find any posted maps to figure out where you were in relation to your destination. I ended up using my phone to find an online map to figure out where the dog park was. In general it is along the northern part of the park just south of McDonald. Also, while the entire park itself is widespread and large I was a little disappointed at the actual size of the dog park. I do like how there is a separate section for passive dogs and another for active dogs. Whether an owner thinks their dog is passive when it is actually an active dog is another matter. My pups are more chill so I took them to the passive side. There are maybe 2 areas of shade, not a lot of trees, and mainly a large grassy expanse in the center of the park. Towards the far end of the entrance there is a water fountain and a play area with sand and rocks for any intrepid dogs to climb or hop on. My dogs were doing OK until someone brought their pushy dominating dog into the passive side. Big annoyance on my part and we had to exit because the pushy dog wouldn't leave my dogs alone and it was causing quite a ruckus in the park. They were getting tired anyways and I was planning on heading back soon so we left to avoid doggie fight club. Not a fault of the park of course. I wish people would know their dogs enough to put them on the active side of the park instead of passive. The other nice thing about this dog park is that there are two separate double gated points so that you can leave at the same time someone else is trying to get in and vice versa. Overall in general this is a nice dog park and except from that one aggressive dog everyone else's dogs and owners were friendly and laid back. It is a bit of a drive from where I am and since there are other nice dog parks closer to where I live I probably would only go here again if I were in this area already and with the dogs. read more

The positive is that the park is nice and large. Downsides: 1. The park is large. Yes, it's a positive and a negative. The park is so large and so busy. Many regulars treat it like social hour. They are not paying attention to or managing their dog's behavior. This does apply not everyone, but prevalent enough it's obvious in one visit. Because of this, lots of poop everywhere. Also, I've had to pull an aggressive dog off my guy every. single. time. Never an owner around to help or deal with the situation. 2. As I mentioned, it's like social hour. I love dog park people! I like chatting with them and learning about their dogs. In my experience, dog parks are usually full of the friendliest people. We aren't regulars to this location, but have gone often over the last three years, and this is the most cliquish group of people I've come across. I even overheard a group of them talking with disdain about all the strangers who appear in the winter. No one will talk to you. They're either grouped up in the corners all chatting, avoiding strangers and ignoring their dogs or staring into their phones ignoring their dogs. read more

We have a huge backyard, but our two dogs are social butterflies so we bring them here occasionally as a treat. We have a border collie lab mix and a chihuahua mix; the chi has a ton of energy and thinks she's a big dog, so both go into the big dog/active dog play area. Always a great mix of dog breeds and personalities, so our girls have tons of friends to interact with. I would say that 90% of the time we have no issues, but sometimes there is a dog being too aggressive with one of my pups, so I'll have to intervene. Most owners are attentive to their dogs so any hostile behavior is quickly put to a stop by both dog parents. 5/5 stars for the variety of dogs to play with, 5/5 stars for their attentive owners. Being in Scottsdale, the facility itself is obviously very nice. Very large grassy area for the dogs, as well as some concrete structures for them to climb on/in (kind of like an obstacle course). Even on a busy day, there is plenty of room for the pups to run around. Plenty of benches for the dog parents to sit and keep watch. There are drinking fountains for both dogs and people. Lots of trees and shade structures to keep you cool during the summer days (but really, just wait until it's dark outside). They even have poop baggies so you have no excuses if you forgot yours at home. Common courtesy people - pick up after your pups! 5/5 stars for the facility, 4/5 stars for the amount of poo left by bad dog parents, 5/5 stars for the maintenance crew who keep this place so nice! read more

I like this park a lot. But today there is one lady with a brown dog(I think it is a pitball mix). This dog bited my dog and this lady just left with her dog. My dog was walking and this dog was so aggressive. I have to take my dog to the ER and spend $250 on my dog. I posted this review just to warn others if your dog was forced to be involved in a fight, watch your eyes on the other dog's owner. Great park - my dog absolutely LOVES this park. DOG OWNERS BEWARE!!: THERE IS A MAN WITH SHOULDER LENGTH BLACK CURLY HAIR, MAYBE WEARING SCRUBS WHO HAS A WHITE SCRUFFY POINTER WITH BROWN SPOTS. THIS MAN KICKS DOGS! We come to this park almost EVERY SINGLE DAY and the last time we came to this park, a Monday evening, our medium sized pit bull was running around chasing dogs as dogs were chasing him - PLAYING - he began to bark at this mans pointer while they were running around together. The man probably thought our boy was playing too rough? He kicked our dog once and we let it go the first time thinking it would have been the last time. Our dogs continued to play and he KICKED OUR DOG AGAIN! At this point my boyfriend confronted him saying "don't touch my dog!" And this man responded "HIT ME! HIT ME!" As he opened his arms to signify he was open for a punch. We would've been very understanding if he EXPLAINED to us why he was kicking our dog but instead of an explanation or even any type of ARGUMENT he just responded "HIT ME!" Multiple times to trigger my boyfriend to fight him. He then told my boyfriend "you won't hit me because you're a pussy!" When in reality my boyfriend didn't hit him because this trashy worthless man was NOT WORTH AN ASSAULT CHARGE! Dog owners we love this park so much but please beware of this awful, ridiculous, embarrassment of a man After this encounter another couple approached us and told us they have had awful experiences with the man also kicking their sisters dog as well! Y'all, this is by far one of the best dog parks in the area! Everyone is so nice and daisy has so so much fun! Lots of parking and three large enclosures for the dogs to run around. They have a passive and active group so you choose. We tend to do the passive one as our dog is about 12 pounds but she has tons of fun as she is very active! Lots of parking and only thing to note is to double check the hours as they do maintenance some times in the morning and aren't open those days :) read more

We take our pups to this dog park typically once a week if not more. We absolutely love it for our small breed pups. They go to the "passive" option and they have a great time interacting with other dogs and people. There are always occasionally the dogs that might be a little more aggressive towards other but usually it is not like that at all. They have so much space to run freely or my littlest likes to slowly walk and sniff everything including behind all the bushes. They're favorite area is the sand area and the rocks there. They like the jump up there and be the king of the dog park which is really cute. They love it this time of the year especially when they can run without needing excessive amounts of water. But they do have water fountains for the dogs available all over so if they do need it right away it's there! We love bringing the pups here and they love it too! read more

Minnie and I took a long overdue field trip this evening to Chaparral Dog Park. We hadn't been in months because of the heat, but after dinner tonight, it was cool (translation = under 100 degrees), and the dog park was calling our names! Since our last visit, I noticed that they put up some awnings - great for providing shade for the people and the dogs... very smart! Other than that, no major changes... same old dog park. Minnie was happy to visit and played with random dogs in the active area for a while... We're still major fans and hope to go back again real soon! I've never taken our pups (9yr old chihuahua/terrier (CT) and 4 yr old pug (P)) to a dog park before. Both are rescues and the CT has always had a difficult time seeing other dogs when we go for walks - he's friendly and super curious up close, but if he sees another dog he just loses his marbles until he can get up close and check them out. Anyway, I was really anxious about going because I didn't want to be a bother to any of the other patrons and pets. But when we got there both boys had such a great time and our little CT made so many new friends!!! Everyone there was so friendly - even the humans! There's a passive side and an active side, which oddly enough it seemed like the passive side had more yappers then the active side. Lots of waste bins and bags. A fun tunnel area and the grass was pretty decent for this time of year (early July). The only reason it's not a 5 star is because the water fountains weren't working fully. I know it's the summer and there's probably water pressure issues, I'm just glad I brought my own water! This was a really great place, lots of doggies running around and generally everyone was really laid back and easy going. read more

This was my very first time taking Penny to the dog park and I am SO happy that we chose this park. I read the other reviews on here and the park sounded good, so I thought I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did because we had such a great time! We ended up sticking around for about two hours and we saw so many different dogs.. puppies to old guys, small to large, pretty much all breeds! There is a grass, sand and rock area and they a drinking fountain for the pupps. Everyone there obviously loves dogs, so they are all extremely friendly and love talking about their pets so its fun for you and your pup to socialize. It gets a little busier around 6:30. There were only two owners there when I showed up at 5 and probably 30+ when I left at 7. I thought it was the perfect amount of people and dogs and everyone seemed to be really happy and enjoying themselves. Me and Penny will be back, weekly, and I would certainly recommend this dog park to anyone! read more

Not sure what's going on or if they changed maintenance companies , but the past couples times I went there with my dogs , the entire grass was absolutely covered with tiny chipped up pieces of dog poop! I couldn't run my dogs like usual or trick train , because every 5 steps , they stepped in poop . It NEVER use to be like this ! It's always been beautiful and clean . But it looks like the owners are being disrespectful and not picking up after their dogs and then maintenance is just driving over it all and chopping it up everywhere ! Won't be back for a while ! Really hoping they take care of the problem , because it's usually an amazing park Oh yeah ... and the water fountain is hardly working at all on the active side ... just a dribble which is really awful since it's SUMMER read more

This dog park is AWESOME. I use to take my gentle giant, Spartacus, to the Steele Indian School Park, but it wasn't very well lit and it was divided by big dogs and small dogs and he never really felt at home in the big dogs section. I LOVE Chaparral Dog Park because Spartacus can go in the "Passive Dogs" area and he isn't mobbed at the gate by over-active dogs. He can take his time watching the other dogs and get a feel for the dynamic of the group before he starts to play. My guy is pretty shy at first, so this is really importanht for him. All of the pet parents are SO friendly and will come up and talk to you about your dog all the time. There are a lot of regulars here that I am getting to know as I have been going 2-3 times a week to get Spartacus' energy out. This park is extremely well lit, which is great for me because I'm usually there in the evenings after it's already getting dark. It's also huge so you never feel like you're too crowded. My only tip is that if you have a dog that's new to dog parks / not use to socializing, don't go on a weekend - go on an off hour when it's not as crowded to see how they do. The only tips I can offer is if you're going into the passive dog area, don't let your dog hump/try-to-dominate other dogs, keep an eye on your dog, clean up after your pooch, and always close the gate and make sure other dogs aren't in the gated area when you're coming and going. Last week someone left a gate open and a little dog darted out into traffic and was killed by a car. :( PLEASE, leave the gates closed for all of us! read more

Great Off Leash Dog Park. Two (2) different parks, one for 'Passive" dogs and one for "Active" dogs. There are actually 3 parks and one is always closed for maintenance upkeep while the other 2 are open. I hold a "WheatUp" here once a month on Sunday mornings (except during the hot Spring/Summer months) where we have as many as 30 Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers meet and play. I enjoying taking my dog to this park quite often. As of recently within the last month or so, I've notice more dog feces in the active dog side around the outer parks of the grass then normal. I feel like sometimes it can a lot with all of the dogs at the park but then again it used to not be a problem.. I love it here, my dogs love it here. Occasionally, I'll run into a douchebag with a dog to match, but it's pretty rare. There are some cons--- No one ever picks up their poop--NOBODY. I always see some tremendous moron that thinks it's a good idea to bring food or treats into the park. And then there are the complete idiots that bring their small children to run loose with the dogs. AND There is not enough shade or seating for the dog parents. But the dogs have fun. That's what counts. Oh, and KUDOS to the park staff that maintain these areas. They do a great job! read more
