Chapel Dulcinea has the quirkiest, most welcoming magic to it. It honestly feels a little like stepping onto the grounds at Hogwarts--everywhere you turn, there's some little nook or cranny, some unexpected detail, some magical thing to find. There are walkways paved with marriage bricks from donors, hidden corners to explore, and even a wizarding academy that both of my girls immediately wanted to join. I had to remind them, "That is not what we are doing today. What we are doing today is making sure your sister has an idea of how we're going to decorate for her wedding day." But honestly? My girls did not want to leave. One of them had pickleball at 4:30 in Austin and completely missed it, and my very pregnant daughter had already skipped her nap and still hadn't had lunch. I kept saying, "Don't you need to go play pickleball? Don't you need to go take a nap and eat?" Nope. They still didn't want to leave. Yeah. It's that kind of spot. There was something to find around every corner. There was beer being served at 1 p.m., and the whole place felt so relaxed and joyful that my very pregnant daughter almost considered taking a drink. Even the door had a door sign. Which honestly? Perfect. It's a sign. On a door. About doors that are signs. I saw the signs, y'all. You should definitely book here. It's free, beautiful, and you're never gonna wanna go home. I also had the chance to watch a bride and her family trickle in, and it was truly magical. The chapel itself is beautiful, but the whole experience felt bigger than the building. It felt warm, human, peaceful, and full of story. That day, I also met both Ana, a photographer connected with Chapel Dulcinea, and officiant David James Nutter, and both left an impression. Even though I didn't watch Ana actually photograph the wedding, I did get to watch her set up and talk about the chapel with so much care and warmth. Later, I looked at her wedding photography online, and her work is breathtaking. Truly. It has the kind of beauty and tenderness you would expect from someone who is not just talented, but deeply caring. She also offers her services at a very decent price, which honestly says a lot about her heart. Her work looks like luxury, but her spirit feels generous. I also met officiant David James Nutter, and hearing his story was incredibly moving. We spoke about how he grew up in the Orthodox church and how that journey shaped him into someone deeply committed to serving people from all walks of life. His warmth, kindness, and openness stood out immediately. He listened thoughtfully as I shared parts of my own story and even followed up afterward with supportive messages. That kind of care is rare. My daughter had a Friday evening wedding here in late October, and it was absolutely magical. The staff were tremendously helpful and answered our seemingly zillion questions effortlessly in the months and weeks leading up to their special day. We arranged for a non-traditional chair set up (they have really much white chairs that don't really need anything) and for the gas lanterns to be lit for the ceremony, and the set up was completely flawless when we arrived. The views are stunning pretty much any time of year, just perfect for amazing Hill Country photos, and you don't need a whole lot of extra decor...nature has it covered. We brought in only 2 black metal lanterns donned with candles and florals and perched them on the wood stumps on either side of the bell tower door at the front the for the ceremony, and it was perfect in every way. Such a beautiful venue. I don't know where to start with this review. The scenery, the setting, the grounds design and architecture. Amazing, this is a hidden gem of Buda, TX. I was lucky enough to be able to schedule off work to witness my best friends of near 20 years, renew their wedding vows at their 10 year mark. I didn't get to see them get married due to I being in another state at the time. Didn't get an invite but it was geographically understandable, so would have been nice though. I love these two to death so it's all good, no grudges.... but I will never forget it lol. The grounds have this beautiful stone like watchtower, and the chapel is an open building so it's open to the elements but still an amazing lil chapel. After a ceremony is concluded the married couple gets to RING the bell. My buddy also rented out the lobby/bar for our small party so that made it even better. We were the Masters of the property. No one else to bother us except the staff who existed to serve us that day lol. Seriously kuddos to the staff, they were amazing. She was also rude to the guy working with her. It was so tacky. She attempted to make me feel like an idiot. She was such a damper to my wedding day. One star b/c : mother nature. The Hill Country is beautiful. The staff & management here: TWO HUGE THUMBS DOWN. Communication is tough and it literally feels like the don't want you here. I tried to book Fang & Feather and they just didn't reply for weeks. Then, when I emailed to say "hey it's ok you didn't reply, we'll just use the small space and then head off site to our reception" I just get this copy pasted re-reminder of the policy back from an anonymous ambassador. EXCERPTED GEMS BELOW: (we read it. we hadn't broken any policies or indicated we would...like...what?) "Do not mistake the Canadian Diamond Pavilion for a party pavilion No food is allowed except wedding cakes. It's very important for you to leave the facility clean, so please bring your own trash bags and a broom. DO NOT leave drinks, food crumbs or trash in the pavilion. All rowdy guests will be evicted from the property. So don't let your friends get drunk.  If you want to have a wedding reception with food and dancing, you will need to use a different facility." Valid policies. Rude writing and rude staff. Like what? "Don't let your friends get drunk"? Who are they writing this for? Don't pre-emptively scold potential guests ...especially when you are out here taking weeks to reply to emails. We already had the policies and had read and agreed to them. It's obnoxious to assume malintent from everyone who walks through the door and brow beat them like they're an inconvenience for GETTING MARRIED AT A WEDDING VENUE. Before we cancelled our date, I called and tried to talk to a staff member and they were basically just like "the guy who owns the place is a writer so he wrote those policies and they won't be changed or amended. Generally they don't care about feedback". She also let us know that even if you spend big on a venue there, they say and do the same things and she couldn't /wouldn't say who had even emailed us. "It could have been any one of us"---greaaaaat supportive service. So: if you are like.... two people who need a free place to stand on a hill and say I do, go for it. Then again, there are lots of hills in the Hill Country and probably some ones that aren't rude or dismissive so I'd still say pick another hill. Whatever you do, don't expect ANY kind of support or customer service from this place and I 100% recommend against booking one of their venues or paying much $$ b/c who wants to be treated like you're an inconvenience on your wedding day before you even step out of the car? Chapel Dulcinea is tucked away in the Texas Hill Country and is one of the most magical places to get married at. As a wedding photographer, I have photographed at this special place numerous times. The weddings can be intimate, elopements or with a large group of family and friends. It caters to all. The bride's room lets in perfect light as well as the groom's room which is closer to the chapel. I have been photographing here for almost ten years and the place is always changing with beautiful upgrades including a paved path to the chapel which makes it handicap accessible. Chapel Dulcinea has chair rentals for guests. If you are doing a nighttime ceremony the lanterns can also be turned on for an additional cost. The chapel itself is an open-air Tuscany type structure that overlooks the Texas Hill Country. If you look below you can see a statue of a cougar and Don Quixote. There is even a pavilion on the path where you can do a toast, have a first dance or cut your cake. The whole venue itself is breathtaking. I love the bell towers and all of the stunning statues that adorn the place. This place is the best! I was a little skeptical going in about this whole "free" thing since I normally very much believe that you get what you pay for, but the venue was awesome. We had our wedding there in January, but had the reception elsewhere. There wasn't a ceremony before ours (10:30 am), so we were allowed to get there a little early which was nice. They do have a little changing room that you can use, but I would definitely suggest coming as ready as possible since the room really only has a toilet room, mirror and a screen to change behind. They really aren't kidding when they say the chapel is small - permanent seating for 12. We did add some chairs to accommodate up to 40, but I wouldn't recommend going beyond that since there are pillars that will obstruct your guests' view if you have to add more than 30 seats. Don't forget that it really is an outdoor chapel, so if you're thinking about a mid-day ceremony in the summer - it's probably going to be pretty hot. Again, we were married in January so it wasn't a problem for us. The weather was actually perfect - drizzled in the morning, but was in the mid-60s for our ceremony. If you're looking for something small and low-key, you should definitely consider this place! read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING WITH THE CHAPEL: A warning to brides and grooms. 13 days before our wedding, I went on the Chapel's public calendar to see how many couples were booked the same day of our wedding. To my surprise, I didn't see my or fiancé name in our scheduled time slot and began to panic when I saw another couple's name booked for July 31, 7-8:30 PM where our names were just a few months prior. I double-checked our confirmation email to make sure I hadn't booked the wrong date and also checked my credit card to make sure that our deposit had been paid - everything cleared out. We had booked in February, made travel arrangements, and all of our vendors and guests were confirmed. My fiancé and I were flying from CA to TX in just a few days and realized that the there was now a chance that we no longer had a wedding venue. But I thought, "it must be a mistake and I have a confirmation email from the Chapel anyway."   The next morning, I was able to get a hold of The Chapel and they claimed that we had canceled our reservation on 6/20. Huh? I explained that I had a confirmation email and proof of payment and they brushed my fiancé and I off and said "they didn't know what happened and couldn't do anything because another couple was already booked." They offered to give us a time slot at 1pm, 9pm (what a joke), or move our ceremony to another day. Do they not understand how weddings work? We had signed contracts with all of our vendors and WE WERE NOW SCRAMBLING TO FIND A NEW VENUE LESS THAN 2 WEEKS BEFORE OUR WEDDING.  The next day, we called again to see if they had notified the other couple and they refused (it's better to just screw over one couple instead of 2?) and also explained that they were able to figure out what happened - another couple had called their office on 6/20 to cancel their reservation and instead of canceling their reservation, they accidentally canceled our date instead. Again, we were given another cold "sorry" with a "too bad so sad" attitude. They said that they would have a "meeting with their staff to discuss the mistake" and asked for our email and phone number - but we never heard from them again.  It was excruciating having to find a new venue (in less than 2 weeks), amend agreements with all of our vendors (some which required last minute change fees), communicate and coordinate the changes to our guests, and pay the new venue the extra fees for last minute reservations and rentals. Can you imagine if I would have never checked the website and if my fiancé, guests, vendors, and I would have just shown up on the day of only to see a whole other wedding in session? Today, we are looking to pursue legal action to recover money lost for last minute reservation fees and late change fees we had to make to vendors and having to book a new venue just a few days before our wedding. Chapel Dulcinea turned our special day into a logistical nightmare. Please learn from our experience and do not put your trust in the staff at the Chapel. They will have you worrying until the very last minute if they have their act together. The Chapel does not care about your "special day" and function solely as a vendor to keep money flowing in through rentals and hoping that couples donate their deposits.  Find another venue and give your money to staff that will give you peace of mind. read more

Coming from Cedar Park it is a bit of a drive. HOWEVER, this place is a hidden treasure. When we eloped my main goal was to not do it in a religious area because though my hubby and I were raised in different religious households, and we do not practice. But the location was stunning and honestly you do not get that sense of religion tied to it. And the story and meaning of Chapel Dulcinea's name is so sweet!! So for us, we decided to just think of the place as a perfect middle for our worlds to officially be joined as one. :) The day was pretty sad cause it was pouring rain. Everything I imagined at least visually didn't come into fruition, BUT that's the great thing about reshoots. And so we still got married. The day overall was ok. The team at the location were kind and the best part, since none of our family or friends live in TX they were able to watch on the FREE LIVE STREAM!!! I was so grateful!! You rent the place for $200 but they will refund you the money as long as you fill out the paperwork afterwards. You can also ask for a partial refund and donate the rest for them to use for upkeep of the location. I'm glad our coordinator told me to give it a good look before I completely took it out of my options. Chapel Dulcinea will always have a place in my heart. read more

Chapel Dulcinea's mission is beautiful & altruistic, and the venue is breathtaking, but their staff RUINED our wedding. We had reserved the venue from 7-8:30 pm. Our wedding ceremony was over around 8:20, but none of our small wedding party (8 guests) were watching the clock. After greeting our Zoom guests, we were about to take a family photo when a female staff member arrived, who was WAY more RUDE than necessary, to tell us our time was up and we needed to leave. It was 8:38 pm. We abandoned our planned photos, and since we had already gathered our belongings and swept up our flower petals, we immediately began to leave, but that woman followed us down the pathway harassing us all the way to our cars! We cooperated completely with her request to leave as fast as we could. As I, the bride, explained as politely as I could, harassing us was defeating her purpose by slowing us down as we were trying to leave, and my 77 year old father could not go any faster down the trail with his walker no matter how many times she berated us for going over our time (by 8 whopping minutes). No staff had greeted us upon arriving (checking in was not required due to the pandemic according to emailed final detail instructions). So that was our only interaction with the Chapel's staff on our wedding day, and it was AWFUL. That woman lacked the temperament or even basic human manners, to have that job. Honestly, the woman seemed to be getting some kind of sick sadistic kick out of pissing all over our love & joy. I wouldn't wish anyone fired during these challenging times, but I do hope Chapel management sees this review and reassigns that employee to a position that does not involve any public relations (our wedding was 11/23/20 if that helps y'all figure out who it was, and according to other Yelp reviews, she has a pattern of being rude). We had raised money for the Chapel on our wedding website among our virtual guests prior to the wedding, singing their praises for their beautiful mission. So it felt like a slap in the face to have their staff member literally chase us away from the Chapel with her bitter ire. It hangs like a dark shadow over what should have been the happiest night of my life. Our little 8 year old flower girls asked me with tears in their eyes why we were in trouble because they thought we had permission to be there. That is how awful she was. It was uncalled for, and it is very hard to forgive or forget. So my advice - go ahead and get married here, but have a time keeper, and do NOT go over your time. For more context, we had reserved our date/time 10 months in advance, and we had chosen the last time slot that day so that we could have a big reception at the Tuscan Hall on the property. However, when the pandemic hit, we cancelled the reception hall along with our wedding planners who would have been the time keepers, and we cut our guest list dramatically in order to have a Covid safe wedding. (Thank heavens the Chapel Dulcinea is an open air venue, which made us feel somewhat safer about having our high risk parents attend, wearing masks of course.) Because we cancelled our original 1/2 day reservation at the Tuscan Hall, we only had 90 minutes at the venue, 7-8:30 pm, to set up, get dressed, get married, and leave. In hindsight, that was simply not enough time (and I bet we would have had time stressors with only 1/2 a day for our original 100 guest wedding/reception plans too). We did our best with our time slot, but in the end, we have no photos other than the ones my cousin most graciously took for us during the ceremony - but not one photo of us as newlyweds, or as a group with our dearest family members. Bear this in mind when making your wedding plans. 90 minutes is a VERY small window of time in which to get married, and their unbelievably unprofessional staff lacks common courtesy. read more

I experienced one of the most memorable wedding ceremonies here. Perched on a hill overlooking the Hill Country via a Bell Tower with a water flow creating a water fall it was perfect on a hot day. It inspired many of us to want to move to the country and live off the land. There is however an obstacle to get to the Bell Tower in wedding attire on a hot day as it is a long rocky hike from the parking lot. If you are wearing heels I would suggest you hitch a ride on the back of a man sporting stable shoes. Beautiful and worthy of a visit! read more

What a disgraceful organization. They're clearly run by wizard because they're wizards at making money with a "free chapel". My fiance and I booked a weekend wedding for April, 2013. On January 3rd, I was diagnosed with cancer. More than willing to present the info for proof. I'll be having surgery in February followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. I'm also currently unemployed and medical bills are skyrocketing. We asked for a full refund (3 months in advance) for a date that will definitely be re-booked as there are ZERO weekend openings, and were told by Andrew Harrison: "I am sorry, but our cancellation fee policy is a general policy made for all individuals in all circumstances. We do wish you the absolute best." So what do are they doing? They're keeping $200. Why? Because their demand is so high and they don't really give a crap about people and aren't worried about negative reviews. I hope one day that changes. What kind of organization would not have the decency to refund money in a situation like this with what is supposed to be a free chapel? Chapel Dulcinea - you are heartless and disgusting. I got married March 19th, 2015. I am going to lay out my personal experience, but i will tell you now, that i loved this place. PROS: -The Bride's and Groom's room was WONDERFUL and clean. -The whole scenery and feeling of the wedding was perfect! -I would recommend this chapel to ANYONE. Not just people on a budget. CONS: - I cant think of any! NOW, HERE IS MY SITUATION AS TO WHY I GAVE IT 4 STARS & NOT 5. On my day, I was all ready and started walking out of that Brides room to go up to the chapel to make my entrance... That's when i noticed a mexican woman with curlers in her hair get all snappy and walk into the brides bathroom... WHO ARE YOU?... She was there with a few other women. My Aunt stayed behind to put all of our belongings inside her trunk because you arent supposed to leave things in there after you leave the room. (To avoid theft) WELL!!! This dumb broad and her little minions locked the door as my aunt was making runs between the car and the room! It gets worse. My Maid of Honor, and one of my Bridesmaid's purse and keys were still in the room. By this time, i am leaving the chapel to go to my Reception. THEY DONT HAVE THEIR PURSES OR KEYS! We just took them to the reception with us, we were so ready to party, we were going to go back afterward to see if the Chapel management found it. My dad called the chapel during my reception to see about the purses. Apparently, the Bride that was a little drama HOG, threw the purse outside the door at the Chapel management worker. ....Really?.... Then proceeded to slam the door on him. How could a beautiful, FREE wedding chapel not get 5 stars? I just got married at Chapel Dulcinea in mid-June 2011 and could not have picked a better place to have my ceremony. I had just over 100 guests, and I was very worried about everyone fitting around the chapel, but all for naught! Everyone fit perfectly and had a great view of the service and the sun setting. I was also incredibly concerned about the heat, but again, pointlessly, because a great breeze kept everyone, including me, cool. The bride's changing room is beautiful and perfect for a nervous bride, not to mention, perfect for pictures of all sorts. The staff was very accommodating regarding the chairs for my guests and the walk to the chapel is simply breathtaking. Everyone gushed to me about how beautiful the ceremony was, and I can't WAIT to get the pictures back to see for myself. I've been to weddings here in all seasons, and unless it's raining, Chapel Dulcinea delivers on every front. read more

Perfection. Beautiful chapel - our 20 guests accommodated perfectly under the stretched mission style roof on an overcast day. Our wedding couldn't have been more perfect...our guests and photographer all found the chapel with ease...the bride's room was perfect for changing and readying myself for the big moment. I can't believe how stress free this experience was. I also can't believe they let people use this chapel for "official weddings'" for free. We donated our cancellation fee of $100 b/c it was worth SO MUCH MORE than that...and we want it to be around for others. This is a great place for photos...so even if your wedding is larger and you need a beautiful spot for bridal photos, engagement photos, building your own portfolio, etc. You should definitely check it out. read more

My wedding ceremony was held here last 11/14/15. We arrived quite early, as we had a drive ahead of us and was unsure on traffic. The Chapel was quite accommodating! The bride and groom rooms were ready when we arrived. When you do arrive, you want to go inside the main building at let them know and sign in. They immediately hand you a check of the deposit which you placed, which is great! After that, they allow you to do your thing and don't interfere. The bride's room is pretty and I was impressed! I can't speak on the groom's room though. They used to have a "alter" type thing at the Chapel and it appears they got rid of it. This I find is good news. It gives the officiant, bride and groom more room to stand then having this awkward thing in the way. The grounds are pretty and kept quite nicely. read more

This chapel is magic and beautiful. My husband and I got married on an April morning last year. We chose Chapel Dulcinea for it's beauty and close proximity to Trattoria Lisina which is also a great spot for a budget wedding believe it or not. It was as windy as Hell which was bad for my hair but amazing for the pictures! I am surprised at the comment about the chapel not being gay-friendly. I feel like I did a lot of research and I never saw anything like that. If this is true that is a problem for me but I don't really know the story there. Research that part and ask lots of questions before you decide against Chapel Dulcinea for that reason because I think there may be some misunderstanding. I hope I'm right. read more

This place is incredible! I found the location on a wedding venue website and drove out to take a look around. The grounds are amazing, very well landscaped. Every area of the property has cool little alcoves, statues, and gardens. Great views, many photo opportunities. What an amazing wedding ceremony and reception space for a small wedding (hint, hint bf =). And free?!?!?! If you're ever heading out to the Salt Lick or Driftwood, I would recommend stopping by for a nice stroll! read more

Chapel Dulcinea is a very beautiful and special place. My husband and I got married there this past March and had a really wonderful time. We reserved our time almost a year in advance. We elected to donate our deposit to the upkeep of the chapel and later reserved the lighting of the lamps for that day in honor of my husband's late mother. We also reserved extra seating that the Chapel sets up and takes down. The staff at the Chapel were very kind and quick to answer all of my questions. I am very happy with the very special experience that I had there for my wedding. It is a beautiful and spiritual place. read more

My review is based on two things: The establishment itself was amazing. The grounds are immaculately manicured and the pathways were easy for everyone to access. Going in I had the mentality of "you get what you pay for" and being a free venue made me skeptical but my only real complaint would be in regards to some of their policies which were annoying enough for me to want to only give 4 stars, however, Vivian. She was our event coordinator and basically made up for the bogus policies. She worked with us and made sure we were satisfied and the layout she came up with was genius. Chapel Dulcinea is a free wedding chapel on the grounds of Wizard Academy. I recently attended a wedding here and was amazed at the beautiful grounds. The views are beautiful, especially from behind the chapel. The chapel itself is perfect for a small intimate wedding. They also have a pavilion that could be used for a cake reception, if it's not too windy. The pathway leading to the chapel is gravelly so I recommend wearing flat shoes. There is a nice Bride's Room for preparation before the event. As for the actual booking of this venue, I am in the dark and can't say if that is an easy experience. read more

We came here for my lovely cousin's/bff's wedding. The chapel and the view are absolutely breathtaking. It's away form all the traffic and craziness that Austin is known for. This location is perfect for a small intimate wedding. There was a total of maybe 20 people that witnessed the union. The pastor (I'm not sure if she was affiliated with the chapel) that married them had the most beautiful wedding vows we have ever heard. This is your place for something intimate. read more
