Chapparal is my favorite breakfast place and well worth the drive from Reedsburg. Bill, the owner, is always a friendly face when we walk through the doors. We've come to be regulars at this hidden gem, knowing that whatever we order will be fantastic. We primarily come for the breakfast, which is adorned by many of Bill's homemade breads, biscuits, and more. Our all time favorites include biscuits and gravy, omelettes, and french toast - YUM! Dinner is above and beyond at Chapparal. The Three Pigs Burger is loaded with all of your favorite pig classics - ham, pulled pork, and bacon. Don't even get me started on the fries - a gift from the fried gods. If you're a fan of bloody marys, our favorite breakfast food, Chapparal will not disappoint! I have been coming to this restaurant my entire life. My family has held countless events here, my grandparents live right down the road, and I have the unique perspective of having worked for both the previous owners, the Plattenbergs, and the current owner, Bill. To be clear, my time as an employee was over 15 years ago; I am writing this as a lifelong patron and neighbor who has watched this establishment decline firsthand over multiple decades. The Chapparal has changed drastically over the last thirty years. Under the Plattenbergs, the restaurant was meticulously maintained. Today, the lack of hygiene is staggering. You walk in and it smells like a urinal. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting--horrendous smells and filth that make porta-potties look clean by comparison. This extends to the kitchen. When I worked there, I saw dead rats pulled out of pots on rarely used shelves and a dead mouse in the bottom of a cooking pot. I have even been served sodas with bugs in the glass that I had to pick out myself. The food handling is just as concerning. On buffet nights, the food often sits out for 4 to 5 hours without being replaced. It is well known that Bill reuses buffet food for multiple days; if it isn't used, it gets covered, refrigerated, and put back out the next night. I have personally seen the same tray of food on the buffet Friday, Saturday, and Sunday because Bill refused to throw it away. Countless people, myself included, have complained of getting sick every time they eat here. Beyond the physical state of the restaurant, the management is unprofessional. Bill has a history of screaming at and belittling female employees in front of guests. Most recently, he did this to my mother, who is an independent contractor, screaming at her in front of the clients she brought into his establishment. He seems to enjoy screaming at women, though I doubt he has the balls to do the same to a man. Furthermore, if you book an event here, be wary of the pricing. Bill charges by the physical plate used rather than the person. If a child goes up and puts a single scoop of pudding on a plate, you are charged the full meal price (e.g., $13.99). If they do that four times, you are paying for four full adult meals for one child. This isn't a "one-time bad experience"--it is a documented, long-term decline of a place I once cared about. For your health and your wallet, please take your business elsewhere. People need to know what is actually happening behind the scenes at the Chapparal. read more

My buddy and I went in for breakfast, and I had biscuits and gravy of which I rarely ever get anywhere. I was amazed that the biscuits were homemade and had a tiny touch of maple flavoring to them with sausage in between the two biscuits. The gravy was very tasty, nice and thick and done to perfection. I've never had biscuits and gravy that I liked in the past, but this I loved! I would have it again over and over. Thanks Bill! Fantastic job. We were on a "DATE NIGHT" my honey and me. We decided to try the fish fry here since we were here for MOM'S day 2023. We enjoyed the brunch as did the friends we were with. But it is 2024 and we got there early for the 4:30pm fish fry. Sitting at the bar having a beverage and taking in the rooms. To say it lacked pissaz is an understatement. Rather dark and dreary would better describe it. The outside could use a pickup also. Wife really thought the plastic flowers were not appealing. I used the men's room while there. To say that the experience set the stage for us NOT to stay for dinner. NOTE TO OWNER(s). Take a gallon tank sprayer, fill it with 1/2 gallon of water and at least a healthy dose of BLEACH. A bit of Dawn or other strong detergent. Spray the entire mens room, and perhaps the ladies roo also, from four feet up from the floor and spray everything from there down especially the floor. This doesn't deserve a star at all. My husband stopped there for breakfast and told me it was the worst breakfast ever! The place was disgusting, the bathroom was filthy and the toilet was plugged up. The breakfast buffet was horrible. The eggs were bad, sausage undercooked, he needed a knife to cut the pancakes . The ham was disgusting looking so he didn't even try it. He honestly thought he was going to be sick later on. Because they were starving and the town options were very limited they had to stay. Please do NOT stop here, move on to the next town if at all possible. Trip advisor also has a few reviews similar from 2019 so nothing has changed. The place is very old and dingy and dark inside, probably just needs to be shut down. Hopefully this helps anyone else who is looking for a breakfast joint in this town. read more

We look all over our area for the best places to eat the service is friendly and fast the food has been top notch all the way on Friday the cod is delicious and always fresh it's best to get there early because of the large crowds we enjoy the nostalgia of the place no it's not new but it is clean they have fresh baked cookies and bars for sale in the bar area definitely delicious and the prices for the buffet are reasonable especially if compared to other restaurants of the same caliber the drinks are not weak in any way when I do drink a mixed drink I expect to taste the alcohol I will recommend this restaurant to anyone I see some other commenters and don't understand how they come to their conclusions but I guess you can't please Kevin's and Karen's read more

Now this is definitely a supper club that is hanging on. Thank you for being here for us I really wish you would take the time to clean the place up inside and out get rid of all the knickknacks because nobody likes to eat at grandmas house when they're vacationing. Have been here many times! Breakfast, lunch and dinner! Have never been disappointed! Every meal is made from scratch, even the bread for breakfast. You may have to wait a few minutes longer but worth every minute. Their Friday night buffet is delicious, with a variety of food that will suit anyone's appetite. Soups are homemade. Staff are friendly, and anytime you go in there the patrons are also friendly, like any small town in Wisconsin. read more

I love this restaurant and always have. It's one of my favorite places for a Friday night. Their buffet usually has four or five types of seafood. And if you're like myself and are not a fan of seafood then you'll be happy with their other buffet selections. Tonight I had a broasted chicken and a parmesean chicken that were both excellent. The vegetable selection tonight was something I have never had before. It was a combination of corn, green peppers, onions, and bacon. It had a smoked flavor from the bacon and my mouth is beginning to salivate. The waitstaff is always helpful and friendly no matter how busy they are.
