We were staying at a hotel nearby and decided to walk to this restaurant. They were closing in 10 minutes so we ordered to-go. I ordered the smokehouse burger (well done) which was really delicious. I usually have to add ketchup, mustard and Mayo on my burgers to enjoy, but not this burger! The CB7 sauce on the burger was great! My husband had the wings with bourbon chipotle flavor, he said they were okay and after biting my burger he wishes he would have gotten that instead. We would definitely return. read more

Very disappointed. I expressed concern re the closeness of the tables and was told they don't socially distance anymore. Despite my concern the next two parties were seated right next to us, even though their patio is huge! The food was just ok, the quesadilla dripped a lot of grease. Was wanting to try something a little different and Yelp led us to this up0scale sports bar in Mountain Brook. Arriving about 6:00 on a Friday afternoon they weren't too busy. With plentiful patio and indoor seating they were able to seat us immediately With TV's on the wall's it definitely comes across as a sports bar, but don't think Buffalo Wild Wings. This place has a classy air about it. Upscale tables and wall décor just give it a nicer vibe then your typical sports bar. To start the drink service came to the table quickly and found out what we wanted. We weren't ready to order just yet so he grabbed us water and came back a couple minutes later. Drink orders placed (still in happy hour - draft beer $1 off). Full service bar is available and they offer a handful of house specialties to accompany all the other traditional drinks you would expect. Saw some of the drink orders that were coming out to surrounding tables and at the price point they were sized nicely (not sure how they tasted). Now to the main menu. What I really liked about it was the fact that it wasn't overwhelming. Front and back divided into apps and salads on the front side and burgers (sandwiches) and entrees on the back side. Several things I would actually like to try on their menu. App: Tortilla Chips with Penny's Jalapeno Pimento Cheese. Large order of chips (unfortunately because I ate way too many) with a good portion of cheese dip. Chips came out slightly warmed and had a really fresh flavor. The Pimento Cheese dip was one of 5 side dips you could get with this order. They discount when you order two or three dips. The Pimento Cheese dip was flavored really good, and surprisingly had no kick (heat) to it. There were quite a few little pieces of Jalapeno throughout, but it seemed to be totally neutralized. It did add a little pepper flavor but that's it. Total price for the app with one dip $6.25. If you go with the two dips option price is $7.25 and the three dip option the price is $8.25. Main Entrée: Went with the Fish and Chips. Beer battered Cod filet served with chip fries, cranberry kale slaw and tarter sauce on the side. Note, the cranberry kale slaw didn't sound good to me so I asked if I could sub this out, which the waiter indicated I could. He came back a minute later to tell me they consider this to be a garnish and it couldn't be subbed. Food came out between 15 and 20 minutes after placing the order. Not exceptionally fast, but we had the app so not a problem. When the food came out we were asked if we need anything else and I requested cocktail sauce. Kind of picked at my food waiting for the sauce to come out. after 10 plus minutes my waiter came back and asked if we needed anything. I told him that the person that delivered the food had went to get cocktail sauce and never returned. To which he let me know she told him (my waiter) that I wanted it and that they didn't have it. She got busy and nobody came and told me. He was nice and offered to make some if I wanted. I told him that would be great and he went to the back. About 5 - 10 minutes later they came back (after the manager checked on us) and he had the sauce and the beer my friend ordered. Now to the food. It was really good. Some of the best fish and chips I have had in the area. I will admit when it first came out I was a little disappointed because I thought they brought out actual chips (not fries, which I wanted). But as I picked it up and felt the warmth I realized these were medallion sized French fries and so good!. Total entrée price is $13.99. Not a huge portion of fish, a pretty good sized portion of fries, for the price it's hard to beat. I should add that the Cranberry Kale Slaw really wasn't my thing. I did give it a tiny taste and kind of wish I hadn't have tried it. Service: Service was really good until they started to get a little busy. They seemed to have trouble juggling multiple tables efficiently. That being said, service slowed way down, but they were very friendly. They also seem to care about the customer service. This could still be working through some issues from opening (it has been a few months) or we could have simply had a newer waiter. This wouldn't prevent me from visiting again in the future and trying some of the other menu items (burger is next on my list). Overall this was a great experience and I would recommend it to others. I would caution that you should anticipate some wait times for your order and drinks to get to you if they are very busy, unless it was just our server. The wait is well worth it though. If your in the mood for a good app a cold beer and some good menu items give these guys a try. read more

Upscale and friendly. Tasty and timely. All great words to describe our experience at this new-ish spot in mountain brook. I ordered a Yuengling and lime from the server as a budget friendly starter. If you haven't tried that combo, please do. It's a great way to have a cheap beer and add some fresh flavor. I came in thinking I would order a burger but after seeing the fish and chips on the menu, I decided to give it a try. It wasn't the best i've had, but not terrible either. I'd order differently next time. Maybe a burger (which looked huge from other tables' plates). I can see this being a great game-day spot for some college football. No hostess present, so we went to the bar and sat down. 15 minutes passed with no acknowledgment from the bartender directly in front of us, or any other employee. I went back to the hostess stand to get menus. Still no hostess, so I helped myself. We continued sitting unacknowledged for ten more minutes before I said to my wife "This is ridiculous, let's go somewhere else". So I dined here on 2/26/22 for a girls night. This was my first time here, very nice establishment, and the hostesses were super sweet! The waiter Jesus started out great when it was just me by myself. The young lady I was with asked him for a drink suggestion and he was very dry.. he said people don't send it back. Another young lady asked about the ghost train vodka and mixer special that was advertised on the table... he responded you can get whatever mixer you want.. again very dry. But ok, we're going to make the most out of the night. It was four of us, 3 ordered the pink flamingo and 1 ordered the ghost train vodka with cranberry and pineapple. Let me say the pink flamingo was amazing...it got us where we needed to be and it was PINK! So we ordered our food. I had bourbon glazed wings and chicken nachos. The wings were tasty but the nachos were nothing but a pile of lettuce with very little chicken, more like chips and lettuce. The other ladies ordered the number 7 burger, they couldn't stop talking about how good it was. Then it was time for another round of drinks we all ordered the ghost train with a mixer... we tasted all of the mixer, not a touch of liquor. We decided to let it slide so we all ordered the pink flamingo again. At first glance we noticed a huge difference, the PINK flamingo was not PINK, it was RED. It's made with pink Whitney, cranberry juice and triple sec. No pink Whitney was added to the drink, took a sip, nothing but cranberry juice. So we told our server Jesus, he was noticeably upset that we didn't like our drinks this go round. He said I can get you a shot to go in it. He brought the shots to go into the drink but the ticket he brought back showed us he charged us for the shot. There was no trying to have the bartender make us another drink to rectify the situation. All Jesus said was yeah she uses a measure to measure the liquor out. We saw the manager and the bartender talking and he just waved his hand in the air basically disregarding our table. He did not come to the table until we asked Jesus to send him over. The manager John White sat down and went around the table to see what was wrong. Of course everyone is going to say the same thing, the drink had no liquor in it, it was visibly red and not pink. He STILL did not offer to make another drink to satisfy the customer. He offered $10 off the next meal. Why would we come back when we were disregarded? I ended up with a $60 bill because I was charged for wings, a pile of lettuce, 3 drinks and a shot (that cost as much as the drink). What a night! read more

I've been to CharBar once prior to the pandemic and had a mediocre, overpriced meal with lackluster service. I thought I'd give it another try today, tossing my previous experience up to the restaurant being fairly new. Upon arrival, we requested to sit outside, the safest option during the age of COVID (peak Omicron outbreak) but the patio was "closed" even though one guest was outside already. Both hosts were incredibly rude (not to mention unmasked), giving no reason for the patio not being open, and ended with "don't come to a restaurant during COVID then" when our party expressed desire to not dine indoors. Will not be returning to CharBar and suggest any COVID-conscious patrons to do the same. read more

CharBar is in a cute little area of Mountain Brook and it while it's a sports bar, I think its more upscale than your typical sports bar. I am in between 3 and 4 stars.. the service was slow slow slow, the food was pretty good and I liked the atmosphere. The restaurant is pretty big offering a patio, dining tables, bar seats and a large bar with seating. We went in on a Sunday night and it was pretty crowded - most of the seating was full, including the patio! The menu has a huge offering so this place can please just about anyone. My party of four sat a high top table in the bar area - plenty of TV viewing and you can really see the whole restaurant from these seats. We shared a pretzel to start that was accompanied by beer cheese. We didn't care for the beer cheese at all - was thick and just had a bizarre consistency. We asked for some spicy mustard instead... this took a solid 10 minutes to arrive to our table :-| For dinner I had a baked potato and a side of brussels sprouts. I enjoyed both - the potato was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and a creamy inside! I can't remember what anyone else ordered, but all seemed to enjoy their food. The super slow service is what is keeping me from rushing back, but we did enjoy the food and the atmosphere. read more

Let's start by saying, it took 20+ minutes to get a glass of wine and a draft beer. My husband actually went to the bar and got a drink quicker... out of our party of 10, four of our orders were incorrect. I ordered a burger, which was wrong. I sent it back to have it correctly made. They sent my burger back to me with the correct toppings on the same burger and bun that I had previously cut into. First/only/probably last one of these I will ever write, but this was a simply dreadful experience earlier today. If 25 steps were required from walking in the door to leaving to make this a good experience, they got probably 23 of them wrong. Sunday lunch--arrived at about 12:35 with a party of seven. Not crowded (you'll understand why). Drink and appetizer order was taken and literally took over 20 minutes to get a drop of water to the table. We assumed the appetizers were just lost. They finally arrived after 45 minutes. One plus: the fried pickles were good. But the staff never put out appetizer plates--little details that well-managed restaurants understand as important. When drinks were delivered we wouldn't let the waiter leave the table before taking our order for fear of never seeing him again. So we placed orders (mostly burgers with some specials like no onions) and waited...and waited...and waited. One son had to leave, so we asked for his fried chicken sandwich PLAIN in a to go box. Food arrived a full hour after we sat down. Again, this was lunch hour on a cold, rainy day and not at all crowded. Everything was marginal, of course not completely hot, and most of the special orders were botched (burgers came with onions). When we got home with the "to go" plate, of course the chicken sandwich was covered with the works and not edible for that kid. Waiter was pleasant and helpful, but the wait staff spent entirely too much time in the back and not tending to customers. No sign of someone "in charge" although one lady did appear to be working the room starting around 2 pm and "apologizing for the delays". Problem is nobody wants to hear that after the fact--needs to be addressed while the delays are going on. Besides the pickles, the only positive thing I can say was the waiter was quick in turning around the check and processing my credit card. A family with two small children in our section would write this same review. They flat out left after a similar wait and having to get their kids' food to go. I saw them looking around waiting for their first glass of water as well. For average/below average food and a miserable customer experience, I recommend this place. But you probably should hurry while they are still open because there is no way they will survive. Even the "buy local" crowd will run away from here and never go back. Competition is BWW, Hickory Grill, etc..., and I never walk out of places like that feeling like the staff and management (if this place even had such) really could give a rip if anyone there never comes back. read more

First time check in at char bar and really enjoyed my visit. I have driven by it a few times but finally decided to stop in and see what it was about. It has a sophisticated look, but it's menu and prices aren't going to overwhelm you. It's a great hang out place with a friendly staff. The beer and wine list are good and they have a really good selection of food to choose from. The atmosphere was lively for a Tuesday too. The food was great and the price was on point. All the burgers sounded great but I decided to go with the fish and chips. The batter was light and the fish was fried perfectly. I added a salad and mushroom risotto with it. We stopped here on our visit to the Botanical Gardens and we will not be stopping again. The atmosphere is just arrogance. From the time we walked in the door until we left, we were treated like we were the ugly step child and they did not want to be bothered with us. The timing was off on our food and they brought the entree and then the salad. Said "opps, the timing is a little off" and just sat it down on the table anyway. Then they would try to clear the plates before we were finished. I don't know how you can mess up a salad, but the one I got was almost too sour to eat. I tried a few bites and got heart burn just from the salad. No thank you, but we will not be returning and I am sure that is ok with them. We went on a Wednesday evening and got a table right away, but for some reason our tacos took nearly 45 minutes to make. The Mahi Mahi taco was OK, but pretty heavy on the lettuce, which overwhelmed the whole flavor. Props for the strong selection of local IPAs on tap. We finally got the opportunity to come in tonight for the first time, and it definitely won't be the last! The wine, beer, liquor, and appetizer lists were extensive, and I had the best burger I've ever eaten. Our server, Christin, was kind, timely, and helpful. We had enough food to take home, and she accommodated that and all of our questions with a smile. The food is just ok, but the service last night was abysmal. We were on the patio along with quite a few other tables, and I had never seen so many upset customers at a restaurant-the whole patio was pissed. My family and I loved this local restaurant and have been many times, but tonight's combination of poor service and spoiled ahi tuna was too much. Gross. Even after I made the kitchen aware of the spoiled tuna, it was still on my bill, no one bothered to explain or apologize and the server was confused as to why I asked to have it removed. Really? Have you ever tasted spoiled tuna? It's the worst! Why did the manager not tell her? This is the same person who tossed a menu in my lap (pretty sure they're taught to hand them to you) and also cut my husband off mid sentence during his order because he asked for a drink menu and she had to walk away to get it. Yes. She stammered off in disgust. Why? We're ordering drinks! Stopped in on a Sunday night and was very underwhelmed with the experience. My friend ordered a burger with tater tots and they were a bit soggy and lukewarm almost as if they'd been sitting out for a while before they put them on the plate. I tried the turkey wrap, which didn't taste like anything and the lettuce and tomato ended up making the whole thing so soggy I didn't finish it. The fries on the other hand were wonderfully crispy and salty. Service was fine, but our waitress looked like she DID NOT want to be there. It almost seemed like someone had yelled at her right before coming over to our table. All in all, an okay experience, but probably won't be returning. read more

Very disappointing. The bar is well appointed with a upscale sports bar feel however the service was terrible. The first waitress acted like she was doing us a favor and disappeared halfway through the meal. Our second waitress was very attentive which was a pleasant change. I ordered the white BBQ chicken pita, the chicken was dry and the pita was hard, I asked for additional sauce and it was grudgingly delivered by the first waitress.
