Review: Charbonnet Funeral Home It saddened me to have to write this about what is supposed to a "Black Historic establishment". The Funeral service and the planning of the funeral service for my grandmother by the funeral staffed made us feel rushed and un-supported, and was told by the funeral director that time is money the day before the funeral, when we had questions on why we was being charged extra for things that was supposed to be included in the basic funeral service. When it clearly states in their brochure that we would not be charged extra if those services if selected. The day before the funeral they took off our limousines and hall for the re-pass and said we owe 2000$. as they was doing us a favor as if we did not have 7,500$ already paid. The day of the funeral the pastor was rude to our family by say we don't have all day don't come up here and sing if you are speaking if you are speaking don't come up here singing on the microphone at the start of service. The man you see in the video his back is turned told me the day before my grandma funeral that he was no pastor that he was the devil. I replied I don't make deals with devils I am the Daughter of the Most High Yah. They profited off of our Grief. Shame shame shame on them and their establishment. For the past 12 years, my morning commute has taken me past the Charbonnet-Labat Funeral Home. Located in Treme at 1615 St. Philip Street. This family business has been in business since the late 19th century when the foundations and cornerstone of this business were laid in the French Quarter by Alcide Labat and Joseph Ray, pioneering undertakers of the 19th century. Until fairly recently, I had never attended a funeral service here. However, just recently, I had the sad occasion of attending a service here. I was immediately taken back at how beautiful the entrance was. The hardwood floors were pristine and it was deceptively much bigger on the inside that it appeared from the outside. However, what impressed me most was just how engaged the funeral director (Mr. Charbonnet) was. He never stopped moving and was constantly walking the floor to make sure everything was in order. Mr. Charbonnet is the consummate professional and its no wonder so many people recommend him and his company. read more

My family has been doing buisness with Charbonnet Funeral home since I was a baby. The service is second to none. First class funeral home with affordable and highest quality. My mom bought a policy from Charbonnet over 25 years ago and it was worth about 4,000 dollars and the cost of funerals these days or about 13,000 . Mr.Charbonnet honor the policy for the price we paid over 25 years ago. And the embalm and make artist they have there are second to none. read more

Unfortunately, I'm forced to highlight a star; if I didn't have to, I wouldn't. The level of care and concern that Charbonnet Family Services promises to deliver is non-existent and atrocious. I honestly believe that the demographic that uses the services this business purports to provide grieving families do not read these reviews. If they did, they would NOT give Charbonnet Family Services their business. In addition to this Yelp review, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau; the bureau needs to be aware of the goings-on of this business. In addition, I will file a complaint with National Funeral Directors Association. My Mother purchased her policy in the mid-1980s; had I known before she made the purchase, I would have discouraged her from doing so. Charbonnet Family Services had an unscrupulous reputation during that time that extends to this day. When she transitioned earlier this year, against my better judgement and, to honor her memory, I engaged Charbonnet Family Services to manage her services and the cremation of her remains. My Mother transitioned February 2021; as of August 2021, I had NOT received her death certificate. I could not complete tasks associated with her death until I had a death certificate. This level of customer service from Charbonnet Family Services is reprehensible. I was forced to call the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office in New Orleans to help me obtain the certificate. From the beginning of my family's interaction with the funeral home from February 2021 to August 2021, it was very stressful dealing with Louis Charbonnet (owner), funeral directors Zondra Wright and Mr. Jenkins, as well as Phylicia and Debbie (roles unknown). When I would sporadically speak with either of these individuals, I would follow-up with an email (charbonnetfamilyservices@gmail.com), confirming what was discussed. True to form, no one replied to my emails. I would also leave numerous voice messages on each of their mobile phones to no avail. Each person "passed the buck" to each other or Louisiana Vital Records. Each time I spoke with someone, I took concise and detailed notes of the conversation. I am only giving one star because I have to! Before my sister passed we shopped around for the least expensive funeral home to do a straight cremation. Charbonnet gave us the best price or so we thought. after NUMEROUS conversation with them (Debbie) the price was quoted at $2700. we even called before they left the home with the body to make sure everything was arranged and once again quoted the price of $2700. The next day when my family went to the funeral home to sign papers and make the payment the price had gone up to almost $4000! After much argument they said they would give us a DISCOUNT and the price would be $3240! My family had no choice but to pay since they already had possession of the body. This was $540 above the quoted price that was given to us on several phone conversations. We were not even given an itemized receipt just a receipt with all the options X out and a total at the bottom. I have left many messages for the owner (Mr. Charbonnet) to call me but have never gotten a response. Beware! they will give you one price and charge you another! read more
