The smell of smoked meats draws you in. We only had cocktails as we stopped in mid afternoon (which were yummy and very reasonably priced). The menu looked like lots of great options and we'll come back for dinner soon.

These are smoked wings plain you can enjoy: hot, BBQ, garlic parm. and more . Menu price $12 and Sunday special.......... $8 !!!

Decided to go to dinner with friends here at Charcoal House Tavern. The food seemed pretty decent. The appetizers did not take long at all to come out but a little bit of time for the entree's but not bad. I loved how much steak there was for the price (and sides included). Was not very impressed with our waitress (Tia) at all. She seemed annoyed with us and only came really just to deliver food and not to check up on us. Seem to pay more attention to her other tables around us and very distracted. At one point literally threw the house salad down at my friend that he ordered. We could not even get refills and assumed that the pitcher of tea she left right next to us was for us to refill ourselves. Our friends daughter had ordered grilled cheese with a side of Mac & cheese and was given fries instead. This was resolved pretty quickly though. At the end she mixed up our tickets with her other table but did not take long to swap the tickets. Overall it was alright but not going out of my way to go here specifically.

New spot in the small town of Jerseyville. Indoor and outdoor seating. Nice little bar and grill. Staff was very helpful. I have had the charcoal burger on both visits. The BBQ smells good. I will have to try on my next visit.

The food and service were both good! Had a few minor issues but nothing worth posting on here. I will eat there again.

The service was great. The dinner salad was good. The smoked pork steak and grilled salmon was terrible.

I believe we are the only one's here in the whole building. We checked in around 4:30 thinking time to ride the complimentary gondolas before dinner. Wrong! The gondolas were closed because the temperature inside was too dangerous. Apparently, there is no air conditioning or fan ventilation. We passed on the open seating as the metal seats suddenly seemed hot and unappealing. Winery was closed. Gift shop was closed. It appeared the other rides may have been closed???? Idk. Restaurant was open and seemed very nice. Only flat bread and sandwiches on the menu. The views from our deck were breathtaking. Several patio tables and chairs to sit on. Our bed was very comfortable. Complimentary coffee, water and muffins. The room was outdated but clean. This place just wasn't as glamorous as I visioned.

It wasn't crowded at the bar because most of the crowd was outside for the views. Which is understandable because the view is amazing. We were in the mood for something sweet so I ordered Moscato and my daughter ordered the blackberry wine. Both were crisp and delicious. The flavor was exactly what we were expecting. We decided not to eat because the menu didn't look appetizing and none of the food in passing looked good either. However, definitely glad we came for wine. We would definitely return to sit outside while we enjoy wine. Oh they do not offer wine tasting which is a bummer.

At first I thought it was a bad call by the landlord. Now that they are located in Elsah, I realize he did them a favor. Beau and Terri rallied and took on the challenge of relocating their restaurant. They searched hight and low and found the perfect location in Elsah, just 8 miles north of the old location. Elsah welcomed them with open arms and issued them the first liquor license in the history of the township. Since the relocation I have been multiple times for lunch. You cannot go wrong with their famous Mushroom Asparagus Soup or one of the popular Paninis. I've also been to a wine dinner that impressed me and my cousin who is a wine connoisseur. The wine and food were paired beautifully. Experiencing a regular dinner in the boutique dinning room is also a delight. Their menu changes regularly, but I must say when you see Terri's Lasagna being offered, that is a sign to order it. You will not be disappointed. All the servers and staff are spectacular. It blows my mind how many of them can remember the names of all their regulars. It makes for a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Next time you're traveling the River Road, take a detour into Elsah and visit State Street on LaSalle.

We arrived around 1pm, apparently their peak but we were quickly seated. Though busy, noise levels were moderate and ambiance was typical of a family restaurant. We both had the country fried steak and biscuits, Karla with scrambled eggs and American fries, basically seasoned fries cut into cubes. She didn't care for the seasoning but she's admitted picky with a very low tolerance for spicy food. I had mine with traditional hash browns and eggs over easy. I've had better country fried steak but it was decent and the meal was otherwise great. Everything was served on one plate, just the way I like it, allowing me to mix things up with my hash browns and biscuits. The biscuits are served on the side of the plate, not topped with gravy in case you'd rather have butter and/or jelly on your biscuits, and they were hot and fluffy with good flavor. It was a very filling meal. The wait staff were great, friendly and responsive. We'll be sure to return to try other items from their impressive menu.
