My husband and I have pretty low expectations when it comes to lodging. If the room is mostly clean and there are no bedbugs, we are satisfied. But we simply have no patience for rude behavior. We arrived at the hotel a little after 1pm. The very annoyed manager told us that check-in was not until 2pm and that we'd have to wait. Then she asked us several times how many people were staying in the room, as if to imply that we'd be sneaking in a couple of kegs and a local football team as soon as her back was turned. (We are old boring grownups. What the hell?) We moved the car into a semi shady spot in an otherwise oven-like parking lot and sat there for a while, trying to get in touch with our friends to see if we could meet them earlier. It gradually dawned on us that there was no one else in the parking lot and that the cleaning lady was finished for the day and was packing up to go home. Why the hell can't we check in? About 1:30, the husband went back to the office to ask if we could please check in now and was told, by the now even more annoyed manager ,"Check in isn't until two and your room isn't ready yet. If you want you can have a different room but it's not as nice. And it's smaller. And it's only got a queen bed. And it's by the ice machine. For the same price. There's only two of you right?" What a load of bull. But we took the room. It was hot in the car. Plus two stars for not having bedbugs and for being the cheapest room in Napa. Minus three stars for the rude management. Next time we'll fork over the extra bucks and stay elsewhere. read more

In almost every single way, this place deserves two stars - the only key (and depending on who you ask critical to success) element that brings it up to three stars, is the fact that you can stay for one night on a weekend. Most lodging in Napa requires at least a two night stay. You need to really make a weekend of it. You know what, sometimes I just want to stay one night. Sometimes I want to taste wine until the idea of driving seems ludicrous, so much so that even my designated driver can't drive by osmosis. When those times hit, you will need the Chardonnay Lodge. Forget the swanky mud baths and classy Napa resorts - when you are looking for low ball pricing, some place to crash and a central location in the Napa Valley, CL is right up your alley. I think previous reviews of this place have been a tad harsh. Chardonnal Lodge is possibly the most inexpensive but reasonable accomodations in Napa. For a couple on a budget, shelling $250 per night to stay in a hotel or B&B is not possible, but Chardonnay Lodge was $120 per night, pretty much enabling us to make the trip and maintain our budget. Everyone knows "you get what you pay for" so I don't know why people were expecting 5-star service, but we found the staff to be pleasant, the room was clean, the hotel was centrally located, and the price was great! More money to spend on wine! read more

All other hotels were sold out and staying here was last resort. The motel is located in an area that seems rough for Napa compare to the downtown scene. At night we didn't feel safe walking 7 minutes down the same street to the motel and ordered an Uber. The room was very very small and cramp. The room layout was odd because the vanity and sink were outside of the bathroom. After you used the toilet you had to walk out of the bathroom past the bed to get to the sink to wash your hands. I also noticed the microwave and mini-fridge couldn't be plugged in at the same time due to the type of electric plug not fitting properly at the same time. The motel was stingy with their toiletries, thank goodness I brought my own. My phone call experience with the front desk prior to arriving was also disappointing. I had called with a question and the woman I spoke with seem high strung and short in response. Shortly after greeting, she asked me to hold, but I could hear her ruffle through papers and doing something then talking to what i assume to be a customer. I felt her phone manners needs improvement and could have been more professional ...at least mute the phone On the positive, the room did appeared tidy with hard word floors and decent shower water pressure. We were there for a short period and only needed a place to sleep for one night. Overall, for $200+ dollars, I wouldn't stay here again and don't recommend others to. In the future, if I can't get a hotel in Napa I'll just book a room in Vallejo and take that 30 min Uber into Napa to wine taste. read more

The rooms are very clean and really pretty. They have nice comfortable robes! Very comfortable bed. It is a roadside motel but it has very pretty gardens and you can tell they really take care of their place. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! We came for a concert at Oxbow commons and we're able to walk back and forth- probably a 25 minute walk through nice neighborhoods. read more

Never Staying Here Again! Carpets are filthy and the floor in the bathroom felt sticky. Pillows were very uncomfortable. The room smelled and the staff was rude. Disgusting place. When I contacted the front desk to ask for a different room she said they didn't have any. I told her that it was my birthday and that we were staying for the weekend with my friends (who were also staying there) hoping to get a cleaner room and she was not willing to accommodate us at all. She didn't bother to ask if there was anything they can do to make our stay better even if she did not have other rooms. My friends and I were willing to lose the money we paid to stay for the night for a better hotel. The only thing that kept us there was the fact that all the hotels were booked in town. If you don't mind sleeping in a dirty room with rude staff, this is the place for you. read more

I wish I had decided to go camping at the state park instead of here. Online, this place looks cool. In reality? Not so much. We chose the place because it was of a cheaper lot and apparently, you really get what you paid for. I reserved a room with a King online and then got a call later saying that they didn't have that after all but they gave us one with a queen for its standard price. We got to the place and it wasn't the most attractive but we figured that the inside would be better. It wasn't. We got the vineyard room and it was the smallest room I'd ever stayed at before. It had a refrigerator and microwave and that was fine but who's idea was it to make their sink so far away from the bathroom? If you get out of the bathroom, you have to walk halfway across the tiny room in order to wash your hands. The bed was also extremely squeaky so if you like to jump on beds or have fairly passionate sex (or maybe even really mediocre sex), you'll end up feeling like you're waking up the entire complex by the squeaking of your bed. As if that wasn't enough noise, they put the headboard of our bed at the same side of the headboard of the bed next door. As we went to sleep, my boyfriend could hear the people next door as they went about having sex. Or maybe they were just jumping on their bed. Who knows? The best part about this place was the free ice for our cooler. And there's this talk about poetry specifically for your room? Well, that poem sucked. Will not return. If you're trying to save money, go camp out. This place was not worth it. read more

My girlfriend had booked us a room at the Chardonnay Lodge for a wedding we attended 9/22/12. At first when she told me what she had paid ($140/night) I thought, okay, this is going to be a pretty swank place... Keep in mind we are function over fashion kind of people. Location: Gets 3 stars... Not ghetto, but not suburbia. Right across from the local high school, a local mexican shopping center, and a Safeway about 1 mile away. Room: Gets 3 stars... Not your Holiday Inn full of amenities, gym, pool etc. BUT each room has character, with its own themed room with nice decor. We only stayed one night so it was perfect for what we needed. 2 beds, flat screen (32"), mini fridge, room to walk around/ get dressed / and pre drink. We had about 6 people in the room getting ready and drinking/waiting for our cab. Beds were a little stiff and bedding was not silky-smooth comfortable, but luckily we came home hammered (in a cab of course) and it was hot, so we passed right out. Staff: Gets 5 stars all the way... Staff was not invasive and were very friendly. Family-owned and run (I assume). I happened to forget my Macbook Pro in the room and was sure it was swooped by the staff when I finally unpacked at home (9:00pm same night). I called right away and was told "call back at 11am tomorrow when housekeeping gets in". Although he did not seem too concerned, nor take any of my information down or calm my frantic ass down, he did hold up to his word. He checked with housekeeping... no luck. He then offered to check the room again where I told him I left it. He found it in a place (closet) I did not think I left it in. When I came back to pickup he told me they make it a point to save everything they find in rooms, contact the guest, and at times even ship it to their house. Go here for: Trustworthy staff, nice decor, short stays. If beds were more comfy it would be good for romantic getaways. read more

This is not a 5-star hotel. Do not stay here expecting a 5-star hotel and accompanying level of service. It is good for what it is- cheap, clean, comfortable, and easy access to the valley. Plus you can stay here for a single night rather than the 2-night minimum most hotels require during high season. After reading the reviews, we were frankly expecting a total dump and pleasantly surprised. Checked in easily with the young man at the desk. We were in "the Romantic Room". King bed, chair, flat screen, mini fridge, bathroom with separated vanity that was open to the room. Easy and quick drive to downtown Napa. I am used to staying much nicer places, but would definitely stay here again if I was trying to save some money, or looking for an easy single-night stay when I don't want to worry about driving home to SF. read more

I booked a room for my brother in law who was escaping the huge fires in Vacaville, got my confirmation number with the understanding they were going to collect the fee at the hotel. My brother in law did not have any money and as such I thought I would help him out in his time of need. The lady who answered named Alicia, told me she was new and they refused to let me pay for my brother's room for him. She said they don't do that and we would need to go and physically present our credit card to her. Her excuse ??? We don't do that. Oh really? Not even during a state of emergency? The rude and condescending lady told me her heart breaks for my brother in law. I'm all, what heart?!!!!!! Dont know whats going on with all the bad reviews. Im currently here and stay in a room with a queen bed. I walk around and check the bathroom, bed, wall, tv, and closet. Everything seem to be clean and neat except the bed making noise when we sit on it, pillow not that comfortable bed sheet clean. The room doesn have any smell and there is no Carpet! I made a reservation for this hotel two months in advance. When I got to the hotel early in the morning I quickly realized what a mistake I had made. The lodge is in a terrible location. Not only is it in a terrible location but the things surrounding the hotel look less than on the up and up. It was dilapidated and dirty. When I was able to look inside a couple of the rooms I quickly dismissed myself and made a reservation at a hotel that was recommended by friends. I even gave up the $200 it was to reserve the hotel just so I could stay in a place that was clean, safe, and secure. It's that bad. Do not stay here. It's a dump. read more

This is a little motel, priced for Napa Valley. Our room was clean but worn. The Zenith tv was a bit of a relic, but there was cable and we watched it happily. There we're a few missing handles on the drawers and faucet but they we're cosmetic and didn't compromise function. The bed was comfortable and the linens we're basic and fine. The lodge was misleading and we only stayed there for only 5 minutes before asking for a refund. The room we thought we were getting was more than double the price of the one we got. On top of that instead of giving us our refund they insisted on wasting our time by having us call the booking agency (Booking.com) and then have them call the hotel about our refund. Despite the rude Indian family trying to tell me that it's impolite and that I needed 72 hour cancellation notice to get a refund I was happy at the end of the day for one reason. The reason why I was happy is because when the booking agent explained to the Hotel Management that you can't advertise all the rooms and not show us what we were buying. In the end they threw a fit and tried telling off the booking agency and lecturing me on how I shouldn't .......... in the End we stayed at Hilton Garden for cheaper (240/night) and this is what we got (pics are to come) read more

We booked the Chardonnay Lodge thru Priceline - two queen beds. The total with tax came to $111. It was a Tuesday night. This is inexpensive for Napa high season. The gentleman checking us in was pleasant and gave us a city map. Visitors...this is what CA motels looked like in the 50s. But they've done a nice job adding Mediterranean arches, a grape arbor, roses, greenery and antique stucco finish to soften the park-in-front-of-your-room-and-sleep look. I liked the mixture of textures and textiles in our room. Our beds were comfortable, plenty of pillows and bolsters. Besides the usual toiletries and coffee service, there were 2 bottled waters and breakfast bars. It was clean and quiet in our room. (Napa High School is across the street). Our shower worked fine, no problems with any faucets. The Napa Valley Drifters picked us up at the Chardonnay Lodge for a sunrise hot air balloon ride. Afterwards we walked from our motel to the historic Butter Cream Bakery for breakfast. A local's favorite. For a pleasant mid-week stay, short duration, inexpensive, centrally located...this is your place. read more

I am not sure why this hotel still exist, I think this was my worst hotel experience .. I stayed at this hotel for a romantic occasion with my boyfriend and we drove from South Bay. Honestly I was kind if hoping if We came in the morning and return at the same night instead of having this awful experience. The bathroom was very dirty which looks like mold everywhere and had a weird smell. The bedroom was disgusting and the bed was not comfortable at all, I had to put towels on top of the bedsheets so we can sleep.. It was not cheap either to kind of expect this kind of standard.. This is a hit or miss to some people. For me, it was a hit and miss. Good - Bathroom was clean. I could smell the clorox bleach. It wasnt overwhelming, but I could smell it, therefore I knew it was clean. The room was pretty decent clean. Bad - when I said the room was decent clean, I mean by, a few things on the floor. The person that slept in the room before me, left their phone charger. That's telling me that the person who cleans the room, didnt clean this room throughly. I'd give this 0 stars if I could. We tried to book a one-night through booking.com for our next Napa day-trip and made an error on the reservation date. Admittedly, we errored in booking the very night we were making the reservation and not the next month like we intended. We never received a confirmation email. So, we waited until next day when the office opened to see what went wrong. Found out the hotel charged my credit card $170 for the night. Subsequent calls to booking.com were met with "call the hotel, cant help you". Multiple calls to the hotel went unanswered because the voice mail is full and no one answers the phone. Yes, our error. But, seriously there is no way to remedy or explain what happened. Reserve this place at your own risk. They have my $$, don't let them get yours! read more

What a beautiful place. Rooms are update to have a feel of a bed and breakfast. It's good location to access the area of Napa Valley. Privately owned and owner is easily accessible if anything arises. Lastly the landscaping, flowers and greenery are all beautiful within the complex. Highly recommend! read more

I want to respond to some of the negative reviews. I am a fanantic about cleanliness, comfort and quiet. Our room was very clean, with lots of features that looked brand new. Bedding was simple but pretty, and each bed had two adequate pillows. We found the bed to be quite comfortable, but obviously, that's personal preference. Yes, it is across from a high school, but unless you're coming to Napa to spend the day in your room, and are worried about noise, that's not an issue. The exterior looked just like the online picture. It is MUCH nicer than any Motel 6 or Super 8 that we stayed in in our younger, poorer days. as for the reviewer who complained about the lack of a rose garden, roses don't bloom all year round. We were there in June, and they were lovely.It is on a main street, but by about 10:00pm, there was very little traffic. I'm very safety conscious, and felt no qualms about leaving the windows open at night for a breeze. The price of this motel is amazing for Napa. If you are expecting luxury, spend a fortune and go elsewhere. For clean, quiet and a little more than basic, this motel suits nicely. Luckily, we had no contact with the rude woman others have complained about. Our HUGE complaint is the wifi. It is beyond spotty. We were "thrown off" more than 100 times in the two nights we stayed. It was extremely frustrating. The wifi issue would be the only thing that would keep us from staying there again. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Chardonnay Lodge. The revamped motel has a beautiful exterior and comfortable interiors. I wish the cleaning staff were a little quieter in the mornings but typically they didn't start until around 9 a.m. Great location, close to everything in Napa. Refreshed our water and granola bars every day. Loved the beds, I slept so well. Very nice customer service desk, as well. They let us check out a half hour late on July 4th without any problems. This place is so disgusting! Filthy!! The carpets needed to be replaced. Beyond cleaning! The walls were dirty. The bathroom window was moldy, the basket on the sink that holds your complimentary soaps was moldy. There sprayed or shook carpet fresh all over to mask musty smell which only started my allergies up. Stayed here for my friend's birthday and I would not have my worst enemy stay here. The management was very unprofessional and laughed when I asked about a double bed room since there were 2 of us! No apologies on their behalf at all. The bathrooms were sparkling, but that only made up for the disgusting floors and bedspreads that haven't seen a dry cleaner or shampooer EVER! Lastly, the rooms smelled like you dumped bottles of Febreze in them and that was to cover up the stagnant smells. It's a totally renovated MOTEL that should be charging by the hour. read more

Minuses: - not the best neighborhood. - bed sheets and covers did not feel clean (I actually had a dream about flesh-eating bacteria, so it obviously was impacting my subconscious). - most of all, the desk person argued with me when I complained that the satellite TV was not locking on to most of the stations that it could supposedly get. He insisted that HIS TV was working fine, and that I must be mistaken (I installed the satellite TV at my home, so I know what I'm talking about). When I asked if all the rooms were on the same dish, he said no - his wing and mine were on separate dishes, but still insisted I was wrong. He said he'd check it out, but no one checked that I could tell. So - all we had was a handful of basic satellite stations. It wouldn't have been a big deal since we had other things to do, but it was the insisting I was wrong that nicked me. Especially since I was telling him which transponders weren't working (I ran diagnostics before going to the office). What happened to 'the customer is always right'? Don't let the paint fool you! This was lipstick on a PIG! I can't believe anyone has EVER given this place a rating above 1 star! It is a 1960s, one story, cinder block, U-shaped no-tell motel on the wrong side of the tracks. You have to be buzzed into register, which gives you an idea of what THEY think of the neighborhood, and we were sent to our room (#4) while the "cleaning" person was still in there. We then went back to the office and asked where to get a late lunch within walking distance while the room was being "cleaned." We were sent a short distance up the road to a mexican restaurant. That is another story (we had to sit outside to get out of the flies!) Then we went back to discover the refrigerator didn't work in our room and water was all over the floor (did I mention that the "cleaning" person was just there?) I called the office and told them about the refrigerator. She said she would call back. Well, I had the opportunity to talk with the female manager. What a piece of work she is! She said the man who took care of things like the refrigerator wasn't there and it was Sunday so we could NOT have a refrigerator. When I informed her that I HAD to have refrigeration, because I am insulin-dependent and need to refrigerate the insulin, she suggested we go without the refrigerator and put my insulin in the office! I told her that was less than ideal. I then suggested that we be moved. She said that her "cleaning" person had left, so no. I informed her that we had JUST come into the room and it didn't need "cleaning" because we were in the room. Then she said all her king rooms (they have 3) were completely booked. I said I would take a downgrade rather than not have my insulin refrigerated. She said ALL the rooms were booked. I then said I would put the insulin in the office as long as they had ice for my immediate insulin need and our beverages. She then informed me that "because of the earthquake, our ice machine doesn't work but a new one has been ordered." At this point, I was done. I stated that I based my decision to stay at her hotel on the fact that there was refrigeration in the room. I said, "please resolve this." I went online and discovered that they still had a king room listed for that night as well as a number of queen beds. I also found out that the ice machine wasn't even working in July...and the earthquake was in August! This was in October! When she realized that I wasn't going to go without the refrigerator, she suddenly had a queen room available for us (#3)! With a refrigerator! We moved and I thought that would be the end of it. Instead, once we settled in, it became painfully apparent that this hotel was less than substandard. Oh, it has pretty paint! And they actually had a few light fixtures and a little table that were very "Parisian" to go with their wine theme. But they have never put a cent into upkeep or upgrades. Nor is cleanliness a concern of theirs. The sink is in the room and has not been really cleaned in a while. Plus it had no counter space at all. Just a sink stuck on the wall. The bathroom window (circa 1960s single pane slide window) had black mold buildup all up and down the inside and a 1x1 piece of wood jammed into the bottom slide, obviously for our protection! There were dirty shoe prints on the wall. The carpet was so dirty and sticky that the bottoms of my feet went black when I went barefoot for about 2 minutes! I have stayed at Motel 6 in the past and have recently stayed at a Super 8...this hotel doesn't even deserve to be in their company! And they were charging $140+ for this dump! Unbelievable! I would have felt ripped off if I had paid $50 for the night! The mattress was a very hard, low rent type. The bedding was not at all fresh or crisp feeling (I started wondering if I was staying on someone else's sheets...ick.) Did I see any bugs? May 2014 - Room 9 - This is an old 1950s motor court remodeled several times in the working class part of town on a main north-south street 2 miles from downtown. The traffic was noisy and with the occasional bass music booming. They have planted a few grape vines at the front corner to be able to advertise an "on-site vineyard" online to give the impression to the unwary that it is in a country setting. We checked in at 6pm. The office was closed and locked. Rang the bell and it took a couple of minutes for a woman holding a telephone conversation to come to a small grubby security window and then unlock the door and go through "twenty questions" like we were there to steal the towels. Maybe we interrupted her dinner in the back. The room was clean but very small and the bed was like a rock and the bedding poor and uncomfortable. The very small sink/counter was low enough for very small children- uncomfortable for adults. It had a large crack running across the wood support and an ugly row of "twister" CFL light bulbs above the mirror glared in your face. The shower was clean, fairly new and had a nice new shower curtain. The towels were nice and clean but only the very minimum number (1 small hand towel). The toilet while clean flushed very poorly and the paper was cheap and coarse. I had to go outside to borrow a plunger to clear the toilet once. I checked the tank and it turns out the filler valve installed is the wrong one for the tank size and the rubber secondary filler tube was not placed in the riser to circulate water flow properly. These are indications of poor maintenance skills. The AC unit long ago had the louver grill smashed out and while noisy it worked but the room became very humid because it was not properly vented to mix outside air. The weather was in the high 90s and above and the ice machine right outside our door was "out of order". The floor was slick laminate flooring and there was no carpet at all. The walls were old and badly patched and badly painted with poorly run cables up the corner painted also. The TV and cable service was basic only. WiFi was OK. We paid for 2 nights but cut our trip short and left after dinner the second evening because the room and bed were so uncomfortable. My rating is based this place being very overpriced at over $100 a night. I would rather go a Motel 6 for a better value. read more

This place has a staff which is APPALLING in there treatment to Guests. What kind of hospitality service is this !! I called to confirm my reservation bc I was to receive a email with confirmation but never did. The lady on the phone said " i am helping my guest right here call me back in a few hours....and no ,we do no such thing with emailing confirmations " I ask for her name and she hangs up on me. I have never had such terrible treatment I havent even stayed there yet and they are such a headache . read more
