Volunteer Experience I was a new volunteer, and unfortunately, I did not have a positive experience. While I was processing donations in the back, the woman in charge grabbed my hand and thrust it aside. It was because I reached for a pile she was working on. I found the physical contact upsetting and inappropriate. I did not know her and was new to the organization. She apologized afterward, which I acknowledge, but the incident still has affected me negatively. I was new and made some mistakes, and I understand that this may have been frustrating. However, I found that multiple times she spoke to me to be quite stern. She eventually softened her tone, but I still felt very uncomfortable about the interactions. I contacted the volunteers responsible for training and scheduling to let them know what happened. They apologized and told me that volunteering at Charity's Closet was probably not a good fit for me. I appreciated appreciated their response, but I was disappointed, because I was not told whether the incident would be addressed with the volunteer involved. I am sharing this, because I hope volunteers are treated with patience and respect, particularly those who are new. I hope an experience like mine does not happen to anyone else. read more

Came by Charitys Closet as I happened to be in the area when they were open. A wonderful place with such lovely kind older ladies working. They were helpful and thorough. 1pm lots of people finding goodies! Everything is priced reasonably. I got a beautiful lamp and some picture frames along with a couple clothing items. Small, sweet, well organized and priced thrift store. I've bought children's and women's clothing, and housewares for myself and as gifts. Merchandise moves so there's always something cute. This is a nice shop with some good finds. The ladies that volunteer here are precious. That being said, whoever manages or owns this store needs to know how hard it is to shop here. They barely have open hours. The last time I tried to shop here, me and two other ladies were told to wait outside while a worker locked us out. They said it was too crowded. It was at least 90 degrees outside that day. From the window the store did not look crowded at all. The problem is usually the overwhelming line to check out. The cashiers are so slow it takes forever to get checked out. They are already slow, but they like to gab. They could easily have two registers and some younger volunteers to handle this. I couldn't take the heat and had to leave without going in. Also, what's with the other space 3 doors down that also says Charity's closet that is not open. Not baby/stroller friendly. I've never experienced this before and my momma heart kinda hurt not gonna lie. My baby was napping and I had her in a compact stroller. The lady at the register told the lady at the door that strollers weren't allowed. The lady at the door said "I think there's a baby in there." But the lady at the register insisted that my stroller gets checked before and after (totally understandable). They asked me how old my baby was and even peaked in the mesh part to confirm. I took a peek around a little bit but honestly the store isn't stroller friendly at all and I genuinely didn't feel welcome after that experience. Bummer, I'm all about supporting small local businesses like this but don't think I'll come back. Maybe a sign at the front would be helpful for other mommas to avoid the hassle of loading/unloading their babies out of a car seat into a stroller only to be told they're not welcome. read more

Cute shop with very pleasant customer service! Not wanting to take my stuff to Goodwill any more, I think I found this place via the net and then confirmed it on Yelp. If you want to donate your clean, great condition items, go to the back of the building and ring the doorbell to hand off your items. You have to physically give them the items; do not just pitch it onto the front door. Someone seems to always be in the back, though, so I've never needed to wait long, at all. They also offer a receipt if you want it to be tax-deductible when you do your taxes the following year. Never had any issue with my donations, and I haven't actually gone into the shop to truly browse, but, in taking a peek into the back of the store, seems like they get good stuff, and all of the staff members are so nice! read more

I was looking for a decent donation/thrift store when this place popped up on Yelp. This place is awesome! They work on a volunteer basis and also assist the houseless population of OC. They were polite when I inquired over the phone and eager to help when I brought my donations. I'll definitely be back for my future donations. read more

Though this is a thrift store, I have noticed that the prices have gone up, last year I bought some Christmas lighthouses at 9.99 which were a lil pricey but still worth it, now they are $14.99. I saw ribbon I use to get for $1.00 now its $3.00 I might as well buy it new. These are donated items, I now every one is trying to make a buck. Reason I go to thrift stores is things are expensive and I am on a tight budget. read more

Charity's Closet Thrift Store is located near the corner of Bradford Ave and Chapman Ave. This little store is a gem chock full of treasures from clothes, accessories and shoe TO small furniture, books and home goods. This store is 100% volunteer run and all of the net proceeds (other than rent) go directly to HIS House (Homeless Intervention Shelter) in the same city of Placentia. Everyday new items pop up on the shelves. The volunteers are pleasant and professional. Enjoy shopping while helping provide funding for a local homeless transition shelter. Had a bunch of stuff to get rid of and didn't feel like just dropping at the local gigantic GW/SA. Lovely older lady came out to pull in each of my things and I felt as if it was a much more intimate, personal touch (leaving old things behind, some with history and meaning). She listened to my brief personal stories and took each one inside. I have no idea why I told any story, but there ya go. Because they are all volunteers, they have limited hours for donations, so check before you go, but it is a non-profit dedicated to homeless relief and they are a little local outfit. I don't bother with receipts and they didn't ask, but it made me feel good that someone else might get some use at low cost and fund a good cause. I have no idea what shopping there is like, but there was a line of a half dozen or more outside waiting to go into the small place in an unassuming strip mall in Anaheim. They were limiting patrons, with a friendly masked volunteer outside who graciously instructed me to drive around the back for donations. I've been going to this place for years with my Mom (we come like every other week)! We ALWAYS find something when we visit. One time I found a pair of Sam Edelman leather boots, perfect condition for $17! What a steal! They have great quality clothes. Their staff is very friendly and will help you with anything you need. I donate to this place all the time. All money gos to the traditional shelter called "his house" which I was in. The program helps families get on their feet. Although people are kicked out to the streets for very stupid reasons. And the program needs to better their staff asap. They are hypocrites that are strict on not talking bad on residents, yet they talk bad about the residents. Overall I've seen them help more families than treat bad. The first time I was their I graduated, the second I was kicked out. read more

Love the staff here -- they are volunteers from Placentia Presbyterian (I think). They are all very friendly and cheerful. Great place to donate too, very easy to just drive to the back to drop off. I took out one star for the prices. I have been shopping here for a few years now and I definitely noticed when they started jacking the prices up. It used to be so much more reasonable! I feel like they're trying to align their prices to Goodwill. They must remember they don't really have the selection that Goodwill does. read more

Great local thrift store with good prices! I rather shop here than goodwill anyday. I was able to find quality jeans for only $2! They have some hidden gems in their store. Also all their money goes to a homeless shelter and all the workers are volunteers. The only "downside" is that it's a small store, but I heard they are expanding. :) read more

This is one of the thrift stores I frequent. I've been coming here for about 6 months, after finding them accidentally while driving in the same shopping center. The volunteers are all very nice & helpful. It is a small store but there are definitely treasures to be found! Their regular priced items are higher than what I'd normally pay at a thrift store but their sale items are cheap. I've found NWT items that are cheaply priced too. I stop by here every other week or so, as their selection changes quickly. read more

For the benefit of Morris T of Yorba Linda, and others: My wife and a friend are the founders of Charity's Closet and I am one of the senior volunteers since the day we opened over eleven years ago. We do NOT refer to ourselves as "elderly" and we surely don't criticize the many customers who come almost daily to look, buy, talk, and chat. We surely don't refer to our mutual banter as "blah, blah, blah," and are very sorry that some must on occasion endure it. Our sole mission is to provide as much financial support as possible to our local H.I.S House Homeless Shelter just up the street. We raised about $220,000 for them last year. We are a 100% volunteer organization with 110 of us working a variety of schedules. Most of us have made some permanent friends among our fellow volunteers and regular customers, and look forward to our work shifts. We also provide a workplace for Valencia High School students and others who wish to perform their school district volunteer work requirement in our shop where hopefully they will learn the value of doing for others. This is a great place to get a good deal on everything from clothes to knick knacks. When you walk into Charity's Closet, the first thing noticed is that it smells fresh and clean, not musty and dusty like so many small thrift stores. The volunteers who generously donate their time to "work" there are kind, friendly and helpful. This thrift shop has everything arranged in an organized manner. The clothes are all clean and hung according to sizes. Likewise, other items on the opposite side of the store arranged neatly as well. Give this place a try. All the money is donated to homeless families which is wonderful for those people in the community who are in need. read more
