I found Stewart Family Eye Care via Google and read previous yelp reviews and decided to try this office for my GIL. The scheduling was great, as I found an early appointment the following day. Then filling out the paperwork was also easy. The front office staff were so kind. I was kinda nervous as my GIL is hard of hearing. Yet they were patient and happy to help. I wasn't in the exam room but when my GIL came out, she sat with the opticians to talk about glasses. GIL had some old frames she wanted to use and they were happy to use her old frames instead of selling her new ones. Overall, it sounds like the experience my GIL had was positive.

After getting recommendations for Stewart Family Eye Care I decided to make an appointment. It was a decision well worth it. They were SO SWEET to my very nervous boy and did everything in their power to make the experience of getting glasses an easy and fun event. Yes, they even had to bribe him with a little chocolate but in the end my son wears his glasses with pride at school. Thank you so much for your patience. You guys are the best!

So, it's been over a year since my first review so it's time to do some updating. First of all,…read moreI've converted my brother and mother into Trinity fans. I took my brother in (who suffers from severe social anxiety) to get his eyes checked and some new glasses. He really liked the place and didn't feel any major anxiety at all thanks to the place being smaller and the fact that they don't seem to double book appointments like some places where you can't even find a seat for the 2 hour long wait to see the doc. He also liked the frame selection and even a year later is happy with the great quality of the lenses which haven't flaked as our others have. I went for my yearly appointment in Jan or Feb and again enjoyed the friendly atmosphere created by the staff and doctors. Dr. Ellison gave epically rocking explanations on some of the worries he had about my optic nerves and even brought in his wife just to get a second opinion because he wanted to give me the best possible help. I've never before been to a doctor that explained things so well as usually they just tend to tell you a diagnoses and expect you to google it to find out exactly what it means. I'm loving my glasses once again. :) The newest convert, my mother, luckily got an appointment on the day before Mother's Day and they were having one of there many events to celebrate Mother's Day by giving out roses and providing snacks and drinks. When she was finished with the doctor and we drove of, she could not stop gushing at how great the doctor was and how she never wants to go to her usual eye clinic again. She said he made her laugh and she appreciates his knowledge and the way he did the explanations. On a side note to my epic review, I recommend ignoring that 2 star review I noticed considering that it's not the doctors office fault that insurance companies in general make life difficult for everyone. I've never had a problem with any of the front desk girls who have always been polite and accommodating. As a past medical biller myself at a large medical office, I always recommend calling the insurance company yourself if you are concerned about coverage or price as they sometimes do not give accurate and up to date information to the doctor offices. Definitely TL;DR? Place is still awesome. Doctors actually explain what they are doing and any problems they see. They often have fun events where they offer discounts on lenses. Frame selection is good and lens quality is fantastic. Go there and you'll be a customer for life.

That said, as mentioned in other reviews it is an expensive place when it comes to products and while they do provide you a bare bones Rx they won't give you additional info to allow you to safely obtain (glasses, etc) from other affordable options. This signals that the focus is indeed profits over care, with care focused only if you're paying beyond the base yearly visit. Prepare to spend a few hundred out of pocket for a single pair of glasses, even with any insurance discounts. Also they will not provide you with PD - even if you ask. It's important PD is accurate otherwise ordering elsewhere can result in bad glasses. When I asked for PD, even after purchasing glasses from them, I was informed that PD is an internal measurement they do not share and that if I want it or need it then I'm able to just do it myself using online instruction or methods. For these reasons, I'll likely be trying somewhere new next year as I'd like to not have my personal health info locked behind privacy. After all, why can't I see my own health data?

I was hopeful this would be a good experience, but unfortunately it was not…read more My prescription includes prism, and the doctor mentioned that he does not work with prism very often. To be fair, I do not know whether the problem was the prescription, measurements, or the lab. What I do know is that my glasses were made three times, including two remakes and a prescription recheck, and I still never received a pair that worked properly for me. The overall experience was very disappointing. During my initial visit, there was nobody available to assist with ordering glasses, so I had to return later for a separate appointment. The sales process felt very high pressure, and I was repeatedly told that my current glasses looked bad and that she would never let me leave wearing glasses that looked like that. Those comments made me feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Communication was also poor. For the third pickup, I was specifically told to come at a certain time so the office manager could be there, but she was not present when I arrived. I requested a call and never received one. I ultimately had to dispute the charge with my credit card company, and the dispute was resolved in my favor.

The technician who did the preliminary check-in (Tara?) was very friendly and made me feel at ease as we went through the routine tests. When Dr. Straughn came in she was very thorough in explaining my options and even gave me some things to think about in the future for sunglasses. When I sat after my exam with Frank to pick out my glasses he was very helpful in helping me make a selection that was not only comfortable but also afforable and looked good on my face. Emily was also great! I booked my appointment completely online and the entire process from start to finish was positive and couldn't have been any easier. There was ample parking behind the building, and the waiting room is separate from the show room which made the process of selecting frames stress free.

Because of this it's a 4/5. Frame boutique: I actually chose this practice specifically because they sell Silhouette frames, but they are extremely expensive, and somehow even a worse deal if you just need replacement lenses? I was told "our coatings are SO much better than you can get elsewhere". Ok I said, but less than 2 years after my lenses were replaced in August 2024, all the anti reflective coating was wearing off all around the rims of both lenses?! There is a 2 year warranty, but from the original date of purchase (not date of replacement, apparently). I think I'll be buying my glasses from Costco from now on for 1/4 the cost. My coatings have never worn off from anything I bought there (or that I bought 10 years ago in Miami for that matter). I do not have faith in the the lab WPEA uses.
