It was an extremely unpleasant way to begin my visit and I nearly left based on her snarky behavior. One star. Fortunately things improved. Tech Shawn was so thorough and kind. He put me at ease and warmed my heart with his gentle nature. He let me know why he was doing all the checks and what to expect next. 5 stars Upon seeing her, about 50 minutes after my initial entry and preliminary exams, Dr. Kurzon was insightful and recommended a medication for eyelid that is new and could make a huge difference for my eye health. She departed the room a bit abruptly and another tech came in to lay out the tools for Dr. Kurzon to perform an in office procedure on my eye. 5 stars. I then waited for the doctor to come back, about 15 minutes. She did the procedure, then let me know verbally what I'd need to do the rest of the day and for about a week, plus pickup prescription at the drugstore. I wish it had been given to me in writing, as I was pretty anxious at the time. 4 stars. Checkout was clipped and professional. 4 stars. TL/dr: Dr (and tech) quite competent, receptionist has terrible customer care behavior.

I had a horrible episode last week with my eye swelling and losing partial vision. After seeing a new eye doctor last week that was wonderful my PCP wanted me to see a specialist asap. Upon entering, no one was friendly and they made me feel like I was an inconvenience. The only friendly person working there was a gentleman that did my intake questions and testing prior to seeing the doctor. It didn't even seem like the staff was nice to each other. Upon seeing the doctor she was very dismissive and condescending. She was pretty much gaslighting me and then told me if my symptoms came back she wanted to see them as if she didn't believe me. After such a scary and painful experience last week this office and doctor was such a disappointment and giant waste of time. I had a one o'clock appointment and was not seen until after 2. I will definitely not ever go back and urge anyone else To not go here.

Excellent care from making the initial appointment to follow-up visit. I opted for the laser cataract removal and multifocal correction and I was able to do both eyes at the same time, which was fantastic! I could see clearly immediately!!! Everyone says, "why did I wait so long to have the surgery?" JUST DO IT!!! After my initial visit, I ran into a friend of mine, who was in the waiting area for a follow up appointment. She had her cataracts and lenses done and THAT eased my anxiety, I KNEW I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE!!! Thank you Dr. Shumski and Dr Calloway and ALL the staff, you're all GREAT! This was the greatest possible experience I could ever have. Both eyes came out 20-20, across all distances from 16" to infinity, with zero astigmatism. They started out about -3.5D nearsighted and up to 1.5D astigmatism. Absolutely awesome experience. I am a PITA about surgery. I research and question everything. Its sometimes hard for doctors to put up with me and my questions. Dr. Shumski not only did great work, but was gracious about my questions and called me 3 times to answer questions. I also got several email answers. I received full documentation about the surgery and all questions/concerns were answered. His staff and associates were also wonderful. From the receptionist to techs to ophthalmologist who reviewed my post-surgery progress. I cannot be more happy about the entire experience.

Scheduling is a joke. They must be scheduling a patient every 5 minutes. No way are they going to make that schedule. One appointment was a 5 hour wait another 3 the shortest was around 1. Phone calls are just as bad. On hold 67 minutes and they say you can get a callback in order, 2 days later and if you can't take the call you have to start all over.

Watch your money, people! What makes this so frustrating is that the eye surgeon is excellent, but the business side of this organization appears completely disorganized. The bookkeeping is confusing, the communication is poor, and the overall experience has been very unsettling. After surgery on my first eye, I believed everything had been settled. Then the bills started coming. I paid my balance in October. Later, I was told there were two additional bills, which I paid on January 21. Then in March 2026, I received another $60 bill (even though I have not had any services since my October 2025 appointment). That immediately raised a red flag since they could not tell me what that bill was for. No bill was on record in their billing department. According to Magruder, "All bills should be settled before the surgery." I called three different billing numbers for Magruder Eye and Lakeside Surgery, and none of them could initially locate the charge. After another call and a long wait, someone in the business office told me the $60 charge had just been added in March for a service dated September 18 of last year. She also admitted they are having bookkeeping problems. What? And that's my problem? That is very concerning. Imagine how many elderly patients they serve who may not realize they need to keep such a close eye on their bills. Before any procedures, I specifically asked about co-pays and expected charges. Something doesn't feel right about a company adding charges six months later. It's unfortunate because poor billing practices can drive patients away from what could otherwise be a very good medical practice. If anyone knows whether there is a class action lawsuit involving Magruder Eye Institute, please share the information. In the meantime, watch your bills carefully, keep records of your payments, and ask plenty of questions. Go in with your eyes open.

Her old office was on Princeton (yes, I have submitted the change of address to Yelp) and is now on Mills. There is ample parking behind her building and it looks like she shares the building with another doctor's office. I've never had an unpleasant experience here. Dr. Pal is really easy to chat with, almost like a great friend you are catching up with after not seeing for awhile (in my case, almost 3 years!). She has a very down to earth, friendly personality so it makes the appointment less like a doc appointment. We were even chatting about how she chose opthamology as her specialty! You're not going to get that kind of openness from just any doctor. If you don't like afternoon appointments, she also has early morning ones available. I highly recommend her for yourself and your family for all eye needs. We don't ever plan on switching unless she moves faaar away or decides to retire (she's young so that is less likely to happen).

First of all the lady knows her profession inside and out, but she treats you with kindness and respect. Everything I want in a friend. We have gone to Dr Poulos off an on as my husband's cataracts got worse and he recently had surgery to replace his eye lens. Dr Poulos consulted with us. She took the time to present the facts, help us decide and explain what would happen. Her staff is also efficient and caring. They work together like a team and the educate and prepare you for your procedure. They present you with a little kit and a folder with the exact instructions easily mapped out. Overall the kindness and caring I see in Dr Poulos is also reflected in her staff. They use the latest equipment to measure and gather the information for the procedure. They give you instructions written and verbal and call you before the appointment to make sure you understand exactly what to do. Our contact for surgery scheduling made it convenient and she was very nice as she worked to get both eyes completed before the holidays. The drops that you must buy for cataract surgery can be costly. Dr Poulos works with a pharmacy that delivers but more importantly they offer a really good discount. A co-worker went to a different doctor and paid $100 for each of 3 small bottles and my average for similar 3 bottles was $65 each. A significant savings and one I would not have known about except Dr Poulous negotiates to provide their patients an easy way to get the medication at a significant savings. The staff is really good about keeping the appointments on schedule with little to no waiting so they get you in and out. We saw another doctor before selecting Dr Poulos. They had us waiting for so long (in the waiting room and in the exam room) and when we did see the doctor we got a hard sell to upgrade out of pocket. I am so glad I checked with my friend on who she had used for her cataract procedure and was happy to get the referral to Dr. Margaret Poulos.
