After some truly upsetting experiences with previous pediatric dentists -- including one who wanted to put my daughter under general anesthesia for five supposed cavities (which turned out not to be true) -- we were desperate to find someone honest, kind, and competent. Enter Dr. Vakili, who was all that and more. She was able to see us on short notice, and from the moment we arrived, it was clear we were in the right hands. Her entire team -- from the front desk staff to the hygienists -- was warm, professional, and incredibly well-organized. The atmosphere is welcoming and child-friendly without being over-the-top, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Dr. Vakili took her time to explain everything clearly, gave my daughter a thorough exam, and quickly realized that the previous treatment plan was not only unnecessary but completely overblown. She addressed all of my daughter's real dental needs in a single visit, with incredible care and attention to detail. When my toddler first came here shortly after 1.5, naturally she was scared. Cue the cries and unwillingness to open her mouth, yet the dentist and the assistants have always been so kind and understanding. Even at that young of an age, they were able to still complete a cleaning that was age-appropriate. Having heard stories of others who take their toddlers to an adult dentist, it is a wooorld of a difference, I.e., they look at the kids teeth and that's basically it. The goodie bag with a little stuffie always is an always nice touch as well. Despite always being traumatized during the actual cleaning, she always was excited to go to the dentist. And then after a certain age, the dentist asked her to sit all by herself (she was previously in our lap). I was SO unsure about it, but she magically stopped crying. Shes now a such a pro at sitting for them, and continues to love coming here. Our little one is now 1.5 and is having the same struggles as big sister. He has an extremely sensitive gag reflex and unfortunately threw up at the office just yesterday, but again, they were so nice about it. Their office is extremely clean, has ample parking, and ALL of the workers are so nice. Thank you Burlingame Pediatric Dentistry for your magic touch! We love coming here!
