My son had his first dental appointment with Sequoia Pediatric Dentistry and it was great! We had originally found them on Yelp and saw that there were over one hundred 5-star reviews, so we decided to check them out and I am very happy with our decision. We were able to submit all of the pre-visit paperwork ahead of time through their online portal. Their staff was very friendly and efficient with scheduling our appointment. I even had to change the time and they were very flexible. I appreciate that with a toddler who's schedule changes constantly. We were sent reminder texts and emails, which I appreciate. Upon arrival, they asked for us to call or text them when we were in the parking lot. We did that and they were ready for us on time. The office is small but very clean and bright. The staff greeted us with a friendly "Good Morning". They checked our temperatures and everyone was masked up. We were promptly escorted to the exam room where the assistant explained everything that would take place in great detail. When Dr. Jack came into the room, he had a very pleasant demeanor. Very friendly towards my son and made him feel at ease. He took the time to show my son all of the tools and get him warmed up and calm. During the examination, Dr. Jack was very gentle with my son. He worked quickly to examine, brush, floss, and apply fluoride treatment to my son's teeth. We discussed the status of my son's teeth and I left there confident that we were in great dental care for all of my son's visits. We had a great experience. We even got a chance to take a photo for my son's first visit to save as a great memory. Overall, I would definitely recommend Sequoia Pediatric Dentistry and look forward to our future visits with Dr. Jack. read more

We recently had to find a new pediatric dentist and I am so happy we found Sequoia Pediatric Dentistry! Scheduling an appointment was very easy and my daughter's first appointment went so smoothly. The office was clean, felt very COVID-safe, and the dental hygienist, Jasmine, was so friendly! She took the time to introduce the dental tools to my daughter and I could tell that she and Dr. Jack are so good with kids. They gave my daughter a goodie bag and even took polaroid photos of us to take home as a souvenir from her first appointment :) My daughter asked me when she can go back to the dentist and was disappointed that it wouldn't be for another six months - a sure sign that Dr. Jack and his staff know how to provide the best experience for kids! read more

Figured I should update my review as it's been over 4 years since my last review. My 7 year old and 4 year old love coming to the office to get their teeth cleaned by Dr. Jack and his staff! The practice has grown quite a bit over the last few years, and I'm happy to report that the professionalism and welcoming enthusiasm hasn't dwindled one bit despite the challenges of being in a pandemic. We feel very safe with the added safety measures of limiting persons in the back, use of proper personal protective equipment, and thorough explanations of procedures. Making an appointment is easy, and I get reminders sent to my phone automatically from the office. My 4 year old had to get fillings done recently for several cavities, which is never a pleasant experience for anyone, and Dr. Jack and his assistant were so quick and made my son feel like he got added sparkle to his newly repaired teeth! They asked for my permission to use nitrous oxide to keep him calm throughout, and I signed a waiver detailing what the gas was. Dr. Jack explained everything he was doing in layman's terms as he worked on the fillings, & allowed pauses in between if my son needed a break from the drilling. Overall, my expectations were exceeded because I personally hate getting fillings and my son wasn't phased by what I consider a potentially traumatic procedure. Updated review: they reached out and helped resolve this issue overall. I appreciate their effort to address the challenges for me as a client to deal with my insurance. If they find a good solution on how to deal with this, I would keep bringing my daughter. We did our first appointment for my daughter (2yo). They were upfront that they don't cover Delta Dental insurance for new clients (though still do for old ones) and I would have to pay out of pocket. The facilities are great and they were on time. Service was good overall. What I didn't expect. They charged me over $300 for barely 10 mins, and not much being done (which is ok, I assume). And what was not shared with me is how making a claim to an insurance is such a pain, with extra forms filling and paper work, nothing online (everything has to be mailed) and even signatures required to get a portion of the costs reimbursed. In contrast, I go to a different dentist myself (Cardinal, in Palo Alto). They also don't accept insurance. I pay them directly (so they can charge more) but they file the claims for me. Through their computer it is super-easy and just mins for them. I explained this to Sequoia pediatric dentist, and how painful it is to process claims with the insurance directly for a client, suggesting they could help clients file claims. Unfortunately, they said clearly that they would not help and they are ok losing me as a client. Which is what is happening. Generally, I am ok with dentists wanting to make more money than some insurances are willing to pay. However, I would expect more focus on supporting their clients. It is not a lower rating because they were upfront about this and service was reasonable, but it is not higher either because my overall experience (cost for service and lack of customer focus) has not been good. Hope this review brings them some visibility into the trouble they are getting their new clients in if they keep this process. read more

We had a great 1st visit experience with Dr. Jack. SPD is an outstanding place for kids that we'd like to recommend for all families in our community. After a year of COVID staying home, we recently decided to bring our kids back to the dentistry. We were very impressed with how clean the clinic was. Where do I start, it was my minis first time visiting. When we got there the entire staff was Covid safe and we felt warm and welcome and in a safe place. When we arrived there was a sign with my daughters name welcoming her, it was a very thoughtful touch. When the doctor came in he was amazing with my daughter and explained to her what he would be using and let her touch them and feel them. My daughter was nervous so i started singing to her..... and so did the doctor and as a mom that made me so happy because she started to calm down and enjoy us signing to her. He was signing with her and thoroughly explaining how she is progressing. 20/10.... I do not usually get attached to Doctors but we are now loyal clients and look forward to going back in 6 months! read more

I second the comment on finding it difficult to have a conversation with the dentist. He was very fascinated by his own flawless track record to only treat something once which came off as arrogant and seemed to indicate the easiest solution was the only one he would consider. I was misinformed about the next steps if something doesn't work out, which in fact can be treated again. Just not a personality I want to trust or work with to handle the dental health and well being of my child. I'm a concerned parent, me vocalizing concerns shouldn't be shut down to only allow for "positive energy". This is not a yoga class, I deserve to be able to share my concerns and have them addressed by a professional. Strange experience. read more

I could have sworn I left Dr.Jack a review last year but I guess I never did. I love Dr. Jack and his whole team. Everyone is super friendly, the office is clean and I always have felt heard and respected by everyone. My daughter who was 2 at the time had several cavities and Dr Jack's treatment plan required her to go under. I was petrified of course due to some tragic stories I have heard on the news about children going under. I was very concerned and Dr. jack was very patient with me and answered all my questions and emails. He was supportive of me getting any second opinions. Never once was he pushy or belittled me for feeling anxious. We ended up doing the procedure and it went very well. I couldn't have been more relieved. I'm giving 5 stars because this practice was very clean and professional and the staff was amazing... but, I want to note that my daughter had a large cavity and dr jack treatment planned a pulpotomy with cap and wanted to give gas. I asked if we could be more conservative and start with a filling and he told me it would fail and he wasn't willing to try it. I ended up getting a second opinion form a holistic dentist in Danville and they said the cavity didn't reach the pulp yet and they were able to fill it with composite, they numbed my daughter and she didn't feel a thing. Im glad I was able to save her tooth and my money and also avoided giving her the gas. My sister and friend had great experiences here and it is a lovely place but just wanted to write this review incase someone else is in my position and wants to try more conservative options- get a second opinion read more

My 19 month old daughter hates having her teeth brushed and finds most medical appointments not cool at all, so I was dreading taking her for her first dentist appointment. Miss Jasmine and Dr Jack were so patient and kind and explained to my daughter exactly what would happen during the exam. The exam itself was done as quickly as possible with a squirmy toddler. We recently took our toddler to her first dentist appointment with Dr. Jack and we couldn't be happier! It was easy to schedule an appointment and they take Delta Dental (which apparently a lot of pediatric dentists stopped doing). Our daughter is a COVID baby so she was really nervous about going to the doctor, but Dr. Jack and the whole staff were seriously PROS at making her feel at ease, breaking the ice and making it as painless and fun of a process as a dentist appointment could be. They also had great tips for us, answered all my questions as a patient, and had very COVID safe practices (e.g., one way entrance and exit, call upon arrival to ensure that previous patients have left). They also sent us polaroids of C's first dentist visit! Highly recommend. read more

First and most importantly, I wasn't yelling or saying anything improper. 1. The owner's claim of "I tried many times to deescalate the situation with no success. As a last ditch effort, I informed you that we would have to call the police if you were not willing to leave." is dishonest and misleading. The moment the owner came out to front desk, he told me "I heard you yelling at my staff, please leave my office otherwise I will call police!". I told the owner 1) I wasn't yelling, 2) if he should learn what was going on before threatening to call the police. The owner said: "no, I don't need to know what was going on. I just want you to leave as you are yelling at my staff!" 2. The conflicts is not about insurance, but about a self-pay item. I asked front desk lady if the $240 charge of nitrous oxide is a necessary item for the filling, as I am not an expert and English is not my primary language (I don't even know what this word means). The front desk lady has a very different attitude after checking with doctor, and told me this is REQUIRED by Dr. Jack, if I don't want to have nitrous oxide, she can transfer me to a different clinic. Plus, we can't do the filing today as it's already 3:04 pm. I'm confused and offended as the front desk lady told me she can transfer us to a different clinic if we don't want to pay for it. I never say or even thought about not paying for this item. I was just asking what it is as I heard it's not covered by the insurance, so what it is? I told the front desk lady that it's not that I don't want to pay for it or don't trust Dr. Jack's decision, but just want to learn more about it. Even there is no time to do the filing, he should have time to explain this item as it's still within my appointment window. I got rejected and was asked to reschedule and leave, as Dr. Jack is very busy. [Later I learnt from google, this is laugh gas too keep people calm, but I didn't know this word before this visit.] 3. I totally understand the reschedule since updating the new insurance take too much time (and still failed), however I wasn't asking Dr. Jack to do the filing to the kid, but asking him to spend 2 mins explaining this self-pay item, and why this is necessary. As patient's mom, I have the right to learn, especially this is within my appointment time. However, Dr. Jack threaten to call police the moment he came out of office and his staff keep reminding me the time like: now it's 3:05, now it's 3:07.... During his call to police, the police asked him what was going on, he said that he wasn't sure. 4. Doctor Jack told me that he has plenty of time sitting at the front desk and waiting for the police to come. We waited for more than 5 mins, and the police didn't show, I left as my kid is in panic. 5. Lastly, I want to emphasize that I did not yell, or say anything improper. When Dr. Jack said "Our staff was so dismayed and shocked by your behavior", this should apply to my kid but not his staff. If there is a monitor recording the whole thing from start to end, I wish Dr. Jack can give it to police! My husband called me asking about how the filing was going on with our kid at the time I as questioning the self-pay item, so he has been listening all the time, he was totally shocked and feel angry by the way Dr. Jack treat us and twisting the truth. I'm very disappointed that Dr. Jack still not reflect his improper behavior. If it's not because my kid is totally in panic, I will stay there and told the police the truth with all the detail. Dr. Jack own us an apology and what he did is unethical. read more

Please stay away from this place and Dr Jack. For regular check ups, this place may not be different from others. Dr Jack extracted 5 molar teeth of my daughter beginning of the pandemic and told us if they would be infected if we did not do so. We panicked as lockdown was about to start and we felt his judgement was right. He has absolutely no sympathy to his patients and families. He was laughing while telling us the molar teeth he proudly pulled will not grow until age 11 to 13. He refused to put spacer in between to save the gap and said return in one year for them. The gap got so small that we need severe procedure to fix my daughter's jaw. He clearly malpracticed. I am writing this to save other parents from his poor decisions. read more

We've heard great things about this practice and I was about to take my kids here. However, they were unable to assure that they'd assign a dental hygienists that is fully vaccinated to my children during their cleaning. She only confirm that Dr. Jack received the COVID-19 vaccine. Since most of the time and close contact is with non-dentist staff/hygienist, we'll delay the cleaning or find another practice that accommodates our risk tolerance. I'm disappointed that they do not go above and beyond to protect their clients. read more

Overdue review. We've been going to Sequoia Pediatric Dentistry ever since my son was around 1(pre pandemic). Now our son is almost 3 and I can tell you that each encounter with Dr. Jack and his staff has been superb! The office is very clean, staff are all very welcoming, post pandemic - they now allow both parents in. Dr. Jack is gentle, patient, explains everything and allows children to be hands on with instruments. My toddler is really curious, so the fact that Dr. Jack takes the time to demonstrate with each tool prior to using it has made going to the dentist effortless! read more

We just finished our appointmet with Dr. Jack and I have to say, it was an awesome experience. The office itself is beautifully decorated with a modern vibe, yet comfy and warm feeling for kids. The staff are really great- professional, helpful, knowledgable and friendly. Dr. Jack is amazing. We have a 2 year old who is not really comfortable with the dentist. Dr. Jack set him at ease and the toys, train table, and tv screens don't hurt either. Dr. Jack was efficient but at the same time thoroughly answered all of our questions. Dr. Jack is personable, informative and fantastic with kids. My three year old, Sebastian, loves going to the dentist and tells his friends every time we have an appointment how great the dentist is. We had a baby during the pandemic and they have added safety protocols that make me feel confident that my kids aren't being exposed to anything. I could not recommend this place more. We had an amazing first experience at Sequoia today. My four year old was hesitant going in but the dental hygienist (Eva I believe) quickly made her feel comfortable. She took the time to explain each tool, demonstrating them on my daughter's hand so she got comfortable with them first, even excited by some of them (Mr. Thirsty LOL). They have Netflix and Disney+ for the kids to watch while having their teeth cleaned which came in handy! Dr. Jack was also great talking with my daughter, and very informative explaining what to expect in the coming years. They are doing a good job keeping everyone safe during covid times, I didn't see any other patients and we were able to check out in the room instead of having to go back to the lobby. Dr. Jack is a superstar! After our usual pediatric dentist office not responding to my outreaches for an urgent visit, we were accepted by Sequoia Pediatric Dentistry, and I am so glad to have found them! That visit was about a month ago for an exam of my 6 year old's incoming adult teeth that were growing behind the baby teeth rather than pushing them out, but Iuckily we were also able to do a routine check up and cleaning. The staff is very kind, and very well prepared for visits in these COVID times, we texted upon arrival and completed the health screen questions and received temperature checks prior to entering. During the visit Dr. Jack was very thorough in showing me the X-rays and explaining my sons overall tooth health, and discussing the pressing issue of the overlapping teeth. We gave it a month to see if the baby teeth would loosen and come out, but that didn't happen! So we came back a couple days ago to have the two baby teeth removed. I was happy to see the thorough insurance coverage overview prior to the procedure, so there were no surprises! When Dr. Jack was performing the extraction I was just so impressed with his "Jedi Mind Tricks" as he called them afterwards (we earlier had a Star Wars conversation occur haha) and he kept my son distracted enough, and was so incredibly fast! I think he had the two baby teeth out in less than 30 seconds! The longest part was getting the nitrous oxide going, to relax the young one, followed by the numbing gel for the Novocain shot to be administered.... but at each step he had great ways at keeping my son calm. I was just so thrilled that what easily could have been a traumatic experience for my some became a smooth and easy visit! I don't recommend this place at all. Dr. Jack is very rude and impatient, can't accept any comment with parents. It's a one way conversation with him and takes every. He recommended 8 crowns for my son and total anesthesia and another clinic did it with local anesthesia and 2 crowns only. Even the cleaning they did, I wasn't happy about it. read more

Dr. Jack is the dentist I'd want for myself if I were a kid. I am so happy we found his dental practice in our new neighborhood. Our family is very COVID conscious and have not been good about keeping up with our routine dentist appointments since the pandemic hits. Of course, toddlers fight, accident happen and we needed an emergency appointment. We were able to get a same day appointment right away, even as new clients. They have a very safe COVID procedure to maximize social distancing and minimize exposure risk. Despite meeting the high level of sterility expected of clinics, the staff's amazing and warm bedside manner made the clinic a loving and happy place to be. My kids felt at ease as soon as they walked in, and we felt welcome as if we are a part of their family. My 3 years old was screaming, I love Dr. Jack, as soon as he walks out. I am very lucky we found such a great dentist for our family. Thank you Dr. Jack and his team! The exam rooms are clean, bright and has a TV. Parents can choose the TV show for the kids to watch, but the most important aspect is that I get to relax when the TV is on. My kids walk out today with big brught smiles on their faces. They love the toothbrush in their goody bags so much that they asked to brush their teeth as soon as they get home. This place is just magical! read more
