I had a great experience with the dental team for my daughter's first pediatric dental visit! I was very disappointed though for a couple of things: 1. The front desk team never told me on the phone when I called that the dentist was out of network for my insurance. So that left me in fact with a payment I was not expecting as I was told over the phone it was completely covered. 2. The paperwork for this place is a little over the top. I'm bummed as I don't know if I'll be returning due to the out of network costs. Next time when someone asks on the phone about coverage please tell them the doctor is out of network so they can plan accordingly. read more

I just noticed that the last review I wrote was 11 years ago. Let's just say I feel the same way I did 11 years ago and maybe now even more passionately. There aren't enough wonderful things to say about Dr. Chris. He is truly one of THE kindest, most caring people you've ever met. You can tell how much he genuinely loves and cares for each of his patients and takes the time to get to know each child and their family. He has such a calm & gentle touch that makes going to the dentist actually something to look forward to. He takes his time, never makes you feel rushed. My daughters were Dr. Chris's patients until they were close to 20, and my son is still a patient. Today he had his cleaning appointment and didn't want to leave. Every person in that office is so welcoming and loving; it's just a joy to be in that space. I honestly wish Dr. Chris had been my dentist growing up. I took my 8.5 month daughter to see Dr. Jonathan Lee this morning for her first (EVER!) dentist appointment. I could tell right off the bat that Dr. Jonathan was very well-versed with babies, since he was extremely careful and gentle when dealing with her. She stayed with me on my lap throughout the entire visit. The first visit took about an hour, and I barely had to wait to see the doctor. The appointment was 90% parent education (about healthy teeth/gum habits) and 10% checking baby's teeth, recording them, and putting a fluoride coating on the teeth - this coating literally took 5 seconds. Check in and check out were quick and breezy. They even made a commemorative letter board sign for my daughter's visit - was I ever impressed by this! Obviously this was just my experience based on the first visit, but I was thoroughly impressed by the attention to detail and the gentle approach used by Dr. Jonathan. At this point, I'm quite happy to have made the decision to have them as my daughter's dentist! read more

When your child has to get a shot and a filling who's more scared the kid or the parent?!? Thankfully neither of us had anything to worry about! Our first kid was a modern dental marvel. She brushed ok, snacked way too much and never had anything approaching a cavity. So naturally we were lackadaisical with our son thinking we produced children with invincible steel Superman teeth. We were wrong. We thought he had something stuck in his teeth one day only to learn what was stuck was a cavity! We'd taken our son to the normal family dentist and he proceeded to freak out before they could even get close to his mouth. That's when we were referred to the pediatric specialists at Happy Healthy Teeth and their wonderful team. We went in for a consultation with Dr. Yee expecting to feel judgement and shame but instead he was extremely kind, matter of fact and explained what was going on in a really simple and clear way. We landed on a plan which included our son taking an oral medication at the next visit along with some laughing gas. Before we left we went over the costs. Our insurance wasn't in network with them but they were able to still bill our insurance for us which made things super easy and the costs ended up surprisingly affordable despite being out of network. The day of the appointment went like a breeze. I was honestly shocked. The medications worked so well and Dr. Yee was so kind with the kiddo. Once the meds set in he went to work and was thorough and efficient. Not a single tear! We repeated this process again a week later for the other side of the mouth and had the same wonderful experience. We feel so lucky to have such a wonderful pediatric dentist in the neighborhood and couldn't recommend Dr Yee and his team enough! read more

It was time for my 2 year old to have her first appointment. Having been a dental assistant before, I knew it was imperative that I find a good pediatrician for my daughter. My best friend recommended Dr. Chris to my husband and I, as her daughter had a wonderful experience! After reading many reviews, I went on their website and was able to book an appointment on a date that I wanted. At the time of the visit, Dr. Chris was very thorough in explaining everything to my husband and I, and was able to provide us with some tips and insights. It was nice to have a doctor who is personable and he was very gentle with our daughter, especially since this was her first appointment. I highly recommend Dr. Chris, I am so so happy that he is my daughter's pediatrician! read more

Can't believe it's taken me so long to review! My kids have been seeing Dr. Chris since they were 6 months old and they're 5 and 3 now. We couldn't ask for a better dentist. Dr. Chris is so good with the kids-- he explains what he will do in a way that even children understand. And he is super gentle and doesn't get frustrated when they wiggle and protest. Though, my older one actually looks forward to going to the dentist because he knows he gets to watch TV while they clean his teeth. There are TVs in the ceiling tiles over each exam chair! When my son got his tooth knocked out, Dr. Chris squeezed us into his schedule to see us immediately. I was so freaked out, but I left the office relieved when he did a thorough exam and xrays to make sure shards of teeth weren't left in the gums. I've messaged Dr. Chris so many times when I thought we had teeth emergencies and he is always quick to respond. I sent pictures of what I thought was a hole in my kid's tooth. Turns out it was normal...haha. Oops, probably didn't need to send an emergency message about it. But there are no eye-rolls and no frustrated responses, just kind replies to an overly paranoid mom. I really don't understand where the negative reviews are coming from, maybe they had one-off days. But in the YEARS i've been coming to this office, I honestly can say I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

I did not take my girls to the dentist for quite a while because they had been so scared and nervous from their last visits with a different pediatric dentist. Some friends recommended me to Happy Healthy Teeth and boy am I glad they did! My daughters absolutely loved Dr. Chris as well as the hygienist. Dr. Chris made them laugh and feel comfortable throughout the entire process, including checking the teeth, cleaning them, x-rays, etc. He also thoroughly explained to me what he was looking for and what to expect going forward. At the end of the visit the girls asked if they could come back again the next day! I'm so incredibly happy that I've found a great pediatric dentist for our family, and would highly recommend this practice to anyone. read more

I would have to say this pediatric dentistry by far is the best. Father and son team, with intellectual and as well experiences will best suit the needs of every child in their cares. They both have energy, patience and the abilities to understand the needs of every child. They have a very good sense of humor by the way. Their office is created to bring a child in a toyland sort of speak. All that a child can want and need and some..... Every station that a child sits on during examination has a flat screen tv screen. This is absolutely a great idea to distract and ease a child during dental workups. It works for my kids. Nowadays, you don't Even feel like you are in a dental office anymore. Helps kids as well as grown ups distracted from the fear of going to the dentist. Man, these days kids have it good! Remember back in dinosaur years, when you went to the dentist and all you did was fear the dentist and the procedures. I would go in a heartbeat. Maybe not. but you know what I mean. Great dentist!! Dr. Lee was my dentist for about 15 years and then my daughters dentist for another 15 years. Back in my day, he even did my braces. He kept our families teeth clean and healthy so we can smile! I always loved his office with its tv and video games. I know some parents are against all that, but when children might find the dentist a little scary, I think it is good to have these to make them feel a little more comfortable and it helps them want to come back because it is fun to play in the office. read more

We've taken our 2-3yr old here and he for the most part doesn't mind (this is coming from a child who can often fuss about a lot of things). The facility is clean and really high-tech, with an inviting waiting room for children with video games (can't beat that as a great first impression for kiddos)! What we appreciate most is Dr. Lee's fantastic store of knowledge regarding the science behind dental health (what causes & how to prevent cavities in kids). I feel like I have been fooled by the good ratings listed here. I have 2.5 year old twins and we visited twice here. Both experience are traumatic. They both cried and screamed for the whole process and were horrified by Dr Christian Yee. He has no kids, so he has no idea how to calm down kids and have no idea how kids will react with all the teeth cleaning and brushing. He doesn't have any suggestions on how to encourage kids to use teeth brush as well. My kids are now horrified by the dental experience and now they will cry even we talk about dentist. I have no idea why he chooses to be a pediatric dentist if he has no kids handling experience. I thought the service is not that good and they charged me $24 for one prescribed teeth paste. We will definitely won't come back again and I definitely won't recommend to any parents. read more

Funny as it is, I'm probably Dr. Lee's oldest patient... -_- """" I've been going to him for a decade + 1/2 now from elementary school all the way though college... following him from when he had his own little office to when he moved to a bigger, newer place to expand for both him + his son Jonathon to share. Their office has everything that a children's dentist office should have + more! Let's start with the waiting room... plenty of comfy seating; multiple kid-appropriate, women's, + entertainment magazines; 2 video game machines, some toddler toys + a large TV screen playing a Disney movie. Having multiple options of different family-friendly media aside from your typical variety of magazines is quite ideal. From there, when they're ready for you, you'll be directed by a dental assistant to brush your teeth in a separate waiting room equipped with sinks, disposable toothbrushes (the nice kind + you get to keep them, too!), little cups, dental floss + a large mirror. In this room is where you will see the walls lined with all of Dr. Lee + his son's degrees + awards from over the years. A very impressive collection btwn the 2 of them that reassures you that you're in good hands. Sometimes the dental assistant will give you the red tablets that contain red dye that sticks to plaque so you can see for yourself how well you're really brushing on a daily basis. Then you're moved on to the actual chairs which are in a kid-friendly decorated room with lights + colors all around. Not only is each dental chair new but it's also hooked up w/ headphones so that you can watch their TV IN THE CEILING!!! Let's repeat that again... they have a TV IN THE CEILING above each chair! Is that cool or what? Sure you still have to pay attention to when they're telling you to open your mouth, close your mouth + turn your head in different directions, but getting to tune out to mindless entertainment while doing so takes away all the jitters you might have about going to the dentist. Each chair station has a small seat for parents to accompany their kids + watch the cleaning process, x-rays + then overall evaluation / recommendations of dental health. Usually dental assistants do the basic cleaning then Dr. Lee or his son will come over to do the final touches + give the evaluation on how clean / unclean your teeth are, their movement since your last visit + any recommendations such as if you need to consider getting retainers, braces, a tooth removed, etc. Last thing is the timed fluoride rinse, which comes in a couple different flavor options just like their toothpaste. Dr. Lee's office really takes advantage of technology to make the place kid-friendly, accommodating to parents + impressive overall. Aside from the TV's, the x-ray equipment is digital now so you can see the clear images of your teeth on the screen next the station within seconds of the image being taken. Times are changing + his office is a great example of taking advantage of cool stuff to make dentist visits something that kids can look forward to. The staff is friendly, the space is very clean + contemporary-looking, + as I said, the place basically has everything you could ever need in a dentist office. My son has been going here for his last 3 visits and did fine. Nervous at first, but able to calm down. He's now 3yo and at his most recent visit, he cried the whole time, and even gagged on the bubblegum toothpaste. Dentist said that he would need to be intubated at his next visit for a routine cleaning and xrays in order for him to "cooperate". I asked why not nitrous oxide, and he said because it wouldn't be sedating enough. I was deeply bothered by this and so asked my physician and dental colleagues if this was the norm, and in short they all said: No way, find another dentist, report him to the dental board, unnecessary risk for just a cleaning, a pediatric dentist should not be recommending general anesthesia for an uncooperative kid, and really shouldn't be a pediatric dentist if recommending this. So, in short, I will find another pediatric dentist. Also, they confirmed the wrong time for his appointment, and when I mentioned this to the receptionist, she didn't care and just looked at the computer and repeated the wrong confirmed appointment time. read more

I have fond memories of Dr. Brian Lee. He was my dentist when I was a youngin. He had the coolest office. You'd walk in and there would be toys and the magazine highlights to read. Then they'd brind you back to the back and there would be perfect kid sized sinks that you could brush you teeth in. They would have you chew this red pill looking thing to see how well you brushed your teeth. One of Dr. Lee's assistants would clean your teeth and then Dr. Lee would come over. He was always joking around and always remembered your name. After he done you'd get really yummy flouride. You could choose the flavor. Then you got to choose your toy from the big green turtle box and you were on your way. I would suggest Dr. Lee to anyone with children! I hope he's around when i have my kids. read more

First let me say I used to have Dr. Brian Lee as my dentist.. He had to kick me out but I definitely was kicking and screaming.. He still makes office visits so nice. Now my two boys have been going to Dr. J Lee and sometimes they see Dr. B Lee. Jonathon has really brought the office into the high tech world. He keeps the kids distracted by watching a movie that they can see in the ceiling. They make it fun and not scary. The other people that work there are also so friendly and nice. First dental visit for our 16 month old at Happy Healthy Teeth was a success. Dr. Yee was absolutely fantastic. We arrived 15 minutes late, yet Dr. Yee took his time to explain what to expect and explained everything about a toddler's teeth development. Patient, caring, and great with kids. The staff was friendly and the office was clean and fun for kids. My only gripe, I wish Dr. Yee could look at my teeth! I went Dr. Lee as a child, so I was excited to find that he was still practicing with this son. I have been bringing my son (almost 5) here for about a year and a half now, and he really loves it. Like weird loves it since - though I totally loved Dr. Lee - I absolutely hated the dentist. My son sees Dr. Chris who is just amazing with my son. At one point, my son even said he missed Dr. Chris in between his 6 month check ups. We have seen all the practitioners here (Dr. Brian, Dr. Jonathon, and Dr. Chris) at some point, and they all have been great, including the hygienists. Loving the Dr. Lee legacy! read more

It's a nice children's dentist to start at though I might also recommend Dr. Charles Spitz in San Mateo (50 S. California Drive). This place is great! From the time you walk in the door all the way through our visits have always been pleasant. Dr's Lee are true professionals and work very well with your child. Nice comfortable wait area, great selection of children's books, flat screen tv and video game station. The children are able to watch tv during the cleaning process on flat screens built into the celing. They just pop the headphones on and there you go! Cleaning/exam process is smooth, quick. Great info given to the child as they grow on how to keep their teeth healthy and cavity free. The children are talked to, not over just to the parent. I can't imagine us going anywhere else! I cannot express how highly I recommend Happy Healthy Teeth and Dr. Chris Yee. Our daughter was experiencing pain in one of her teeth & her original pediatric dentist was not being responsive. I scrambled to find a pediatric dentist to give our daughter some relief and we were referred to Happy Healthy Teeth. We were able to be seen right away and as soon as we stepped into the office I knew we would be in good hands. The office is very friendly, clean and extreme kid friendly. Our daughter's original pediatric dentist was not the best. The office was not warm and welcoming, it did not give off a vibe that made kids feel comfortable or excited to be there. And when she was being seen, I couldn't feel the care the dentist had for my daughter. At one point, my daughter needed a filling and it was the most horrific experience and our daughter, and even myself, was traumatized. With all the bad experiences she had with her original dentist, I was nervous bringing her into another office but, Happy Healthy Teeth COMPLETELY gave our daughter a new, positive, happy, comfortable experience and we couldn't be more thankful. The dental assistants and Dr. Chris Yee were aware of our daughter's past experiences and did EVERYTHING they could to make her feel comfortable and happy. I felt the genuine care they had for our daughter and could feel that they wanted to support her the best way they could. Our daughter had A LOT of work to be done, and it was stressful for her and even for my husband and I to have to see our daughter need to much dental work done. After hearing about the procedure, I was overwhelmed and nervous. But Dr. Chris Yee took the time to explain the procedure and all the options available to our daughter. It was very reassuring and I felt comfortable because I can see that he cared for the dental health of our daughter. Even after the consultation, he set up another meeting that evening to explain the whole procedure and options to my husband because my husband wasn't able to come to the appointment. Dr. Chris Yee made it a point to give all the details, answer any questions we have to ensure our daughter would be well taken care of and that she would be comfortable. Days leading up to the appointment, the office checked it and prepped us on what to expect. And the day of the procedure, we could feel the support from the whole office. Dr. Chris Yee gave us updates throughout the 3.5 hour procedure and his staff was kind enough to reassure us that our daughter was doing great. After the procedure was done, Dr. Chris took the time to explain the work that was done and what we should expect post-procedure. He even called the same day, to check in on our daughter to see how she was doing. It really made us thankful to have found a dentist that genuinely cared for the well being of our daughter. The procedure was awesome. Our daughter's teeth was restored and it felt like a fresh start to her dental health. She bounced back the same day. She didn't complain of pain or discomfort; it was almost as if she hadn't gone through a major dental procedure. And we knew that she was able to bounce back to so quickly due to the care of Dr. Chris Yee and the amazing work he did on her teeth. Present day, she is doing so well. Us, as parents have learned so much from this experience. Dr. Chris even went out of his way to mail our daughter a gift. It was truly so thoughtful. Although it was a hard experience seeing our daughter go through a major dental procedure, we feel very blessed to have met Dr. Chris Yee and the whole staff at Happy Healthy Teeth because not only is our daughter's teeth back on track, her ENTIRE dental experience took a huge positive turn and now when people ask her about the dentist or I tell her we need to go back to the dentist, she smiles and is excited! I never thought she would get to that point of being excited and happy about going to the dentist, but she is, and it's all thanks to Dr. Chris Yee and the Happy Healthy Teeth team. I have been coming here since I was a kid and now I have a family and I have been taking my kids here until payment time. They sent me a notice in the mail and I told my wife to drop by to pay 34 dollar copay but they told her they had no record of it. They send another letter month later and I told my wife to go there with the letter and they still didn't have a record of it. On her 6 month check up my wife and I tried to pay our account and they told us that there wasn't a record again. Then long time later they are call us about a past due account of $34 and they sent our past due to collections even though on the bottom of the letter says a intrest will be charged on accounts over a year. I feel we consistently tried to pay our bill only to be turned away multiple times. So after going there for 37 years they lost 2 patients over a 34 dollars copay... read more

After asking around for a dentist for my 3-year-old's first ever dental checkup, I took my son to see Dr. Jonathon Lee. The staff asked me to arrived 20 minutes prior to scheduled time although I've filled up the new patient's forms in advance. Did what they ask to arrive 20 minutes early. Me and my 3-year-old were waiting for another 50 minutes to be seen by the doctor. If you had a toddler, you know how difficult to keep him/her waiting for more than an hour! During the waiting, I asked the front desk several times on approx. waiting time. Got the answer of a few minutes. If the staff had gave me a good estimate, I would reschedule in stead of keep waiting. Dr. Lee spent about 1 or 2 minutes look into my son's mouth. Then, he display pages from internet and power-points to talk to me about dental hygiene. In my opinion, letting a 3-year-old wait for more than an hour is unacceptable. I would not recommend my friends to bring their kids here. read more

Took my son here half a year ago for a check up and cleaning. They were very anal about the first appointment. In their practice, they book cleaning and check up separately. Talk about convenience! But we went there anyways, because of all the great reviews. The practice seemed okay, the Dr. was actually very nice. So, I decided to book another appointment for cleaning (it's time). I called the office, and they told me that they can only take my son in the mornings. I told them that he has school in the morning. They said that they can write him a note. I told them that I don't like him missing school, especially for something that is not an emergency. It's just teeth cleaning, people! They again told me that they can only take him in the mornings. Or Saturdays. But the first available Saturday is next year. I told them that we will go somewhere else. They said okay. Great way to run a business, what else is there to be said? read more

If you are a nursing mom, this may not be the dentist for you. I took my daughter for her first visit with a dentist to Dr. Jonathan Lee last week. As soon as I told him she still nurses, he seemed determined on informing me how tooth decay has been linked nursing (the study he sited by the way was done in 1999). He looked at my daughter's teeth, did not clean them, and said she had some tooth decay, then proceeded to show me the worst. He strongly recommended that I stop nursing and told me that I could give her my milk in a cup, but when I responded that there was an emotional component to nursing, he said "there are other ways you can bond with your child." He knows nothing about my child and I, and for him to say something like that is completely inappropriate. He told me to get a second opinion, and recommended another dentist in the area. I was a mess when I left his office, I felt like a failure. However, after letting it sink in I decided I was going to get a second opinion, only not from who he recommended, but someone who was more knowledgeable about nursing. I'm so glad I did, because her teeth aren't nearly what Dr. Jonathan Lee made it sound like. Dr. Lee may be great for other people, but if you are a nursing mom, I'd look for another dentist. read more

My son and daughter have been seeing Dr Christian Yee for the past few years. He is the most patient, engaging and knowledgeable dentist I've ever worked with. My son and daughter's first dentist visits were not easy, to say the least. Although we've done plenty of prepping at home before their first visits, they were both scared and cried the whole time. Dr Yee and the whole office staff were very patient and kind in dealing with my screaming children. They know exactly how to deal with them appropriately and involved my husband and my help when necessary. When kids are this young, a lot of the teaching are for the parents. Dr Yee does thorough education which answers many of our questions as new parents. It also helps the office has fun toys in the waiting room and a treasure box for them to pick "prizes" from, which totally bought my son's undivided attention during his recent dental procedure. Now I don't feel nervous bringing my kids to the dentist because I know I'm in good hands with Dr Yee and his staff! read more

My 2 year old had his annual teeth cleaning today with Dr. Christian Yee. I love this dentistry! The lobby is great. Lots of books and toys for my son to play with as we wait. The facility is very clean and organized. The front desk is always friendly. Maria, the dental assistant, is very good with children. She has some sort of calming affect on my son. She was able to get him to brush his teeth without a fuss. She's wonderful and very kind. Dr. Chris is the best. We are very lucky to have him. He is very patient, understanding, and takes the time to explain and listen. He was able to clean my son's teeth without a problem. He's very personable and welcoming.
