It seems that the reviews for this branch are either all in or all out, so I will do my best to justify my all in rating. I opened a $2,000 IRA with Schwab 25 years ago as a passive way to invest in the stock market. Initially, I mainly used the phone service to help me learn about the market and terms/procedures on investing. Over time and with some luck (thank you Costco), my funds increased. As I approach retirement, I wanted to get more in depth assistance with my investing. I've been blessed to have a couple of 401k plans with past employers and both of my parents left me a modest amount of inheritance, so I need help with a strategy and also Roth conversions. I had multiple meetings with three companies (and called a couple others), and Schwab proved to be the best choice for me. The level of service all depends on what you want. With simple, no minimum, no fee service you have access to people in this office and their 24 hour line. Once you hit a reasonable threshold, you add a Financial Consultant at no charge. And finally, if you wish to have them to manage your portfolio, for a percentage fee you can add a Wealth Advisor. I am not charged any commission fees. They are key in helping me with all financial matters including tax strategies, partnered referrals for supplemental insurance and trust creation. Compared to other financial management companies, Schwab offers various options that charge a fee either equal to or less than all others I vetted. They do not charge a fee for cash/cash equivalent investments and have options such as bonds management that are lower than all those I interviewed or made calls to get fee information. The personal service I receive has been far and away above all others. They listen to me at our meetings and I have as much input on my investments as I want. It truly feels like a team effort. One month ago, I was misinformed by their banking division for fraud incident and was recommended to freeze the account. I was later informed that it wasn't a fraud but merely a misplacement of deposits to my other bank. 1. The fraud was misinformed to me by Victoria at their banking division. Due to her misleading statements of that someone cashed my check at 53rd bank at New York, under fear, I was induced to make the decision to freeze the account. 2. No one at their banking division called me to report to me what's going on. My fear index was at all time high when I was out of town and have limited resources to find out what's going on. 3. I've made a lot of phone calls and later found out that it was just a misplaced deposit into my other bank. I've informed them and Charles Schwab had known that it was just a check misplacement but failed to lift the restriction and wrote off the investigation. In summary, this bank mislead, misrepresented data and induced client to make wrong decision. The customer service at brokerage firm was unable to coordinate with their fraud investigation for correct data. Finally, they used this misleading tactic to freeze my bank account since last year. I've made so many phone calls and some of my payments to credit card company got returned unpaid because they placed the restriction on my banking account by knowing that there's no fraud. I have called customer service so many times requesting to lift the restriction and to transfer my money back to the brokerage account. As of today, there's no transfer and the restriction is still placed there. This is my question to your management team at Charles Schwab - How long are you planning on having this kind of financial abuse to senior citizen? read more

This branch in Newport Beach only caters to wealth management and high end clientele due to the commission the employees receive. The 24 hr service office has asked this office twice now over a 4 week period to contact me and I'm still waiting. I originally had a small account here but with the TD Ameritrade merge I ended having more of my assets now here. The front desk employee is very unhelpful. Her blanket response is everything is now done online and this office is wealth management. Fortunately Fidelity is one block from this branch so taking my business there where I also have an account at. They have great customer service and no excuse why they are unable to help! read more

I can't belief I have to write this in 2024 but here we are. Went in to simpley cash a check and no one at the front desk would even look or talk with me for over 20 minutes. I was upset once I was finally greeted by a young girl so I asked to speak with her manager. Her supervisor JD was the most unpleasant person to work with. He gave me the run around and said he couldn't cash my check because it was from overseas. I asked difference options and he just smirked and laughed at me but the worsts part was that he muffled some RACIST things about me under his breathe. I will NOT be going back here to say the least. I've never worked with someone so full of themselves and he's not even the guy in charge...hes somones Assisstant. He never reached back out like he said he would. If there was a NO STAR option this is what this location should be rated. The front desk staff will kindly tell you this office is a wealth management office. She couldn't even look up after my TDAmeritrade Accounts were transferred to Schwab if the trust date which was recently changed with a restatement was included in the transfer. I've spoke with at least 3 phone representative and each said according to their online records for the Newport Beach branch, it also services walking clients with account services. I did catch one rep say that with my balance i can be assigned a local branch rep to my account rather than a remote representative so obviously this wasn't true regarding what schwab brick and mortar offices cater to, ONLY the WEALTHY. And apparently my account isn't big enough since no Newport Beach rep has contacted me. read more

I'm not sure what happened to this office but every new person that's helped me here recentlyis undereducated and does not care about the customers. Charles Schwab is a great company, albeit one that's struggling to make it thru this interest rates crisis. Received paperwork from Charles Schwab to fill regarding retirement account, they had a number to call, I called the number as I had a question, I get transferred 8 times, each time they verify me and ask me what the issue is and then they say let me transfer you to the correct department...8 times..can anyone believe that....8 times and guess what... number 8 was still not the correct department....I was on the phone for over 1 hour....I had a severe headache and probably my blood pressure was up What a shitty shitty shitty service, do they really have a retirement department ?? or they just keep transferring you till you give up..go crazy or fall dead? Great service at the Newport Beach Branch!

I had an excellent experience with this office in Newport Beach. The woman at the front desk was extremely nice and helpful. I did not catch her name, but she made a great first impression! I attended their "Make the Most Out of Schwab.com" workshop, hosted by Michael Chipperfield. It was basic enough for people at all levels of investment knowledge to follow. He walked us through things like reviewing your portfolio performance and how to make changes if it's out of balance, how to do your research via the website tools to screen and filter ratings, how to set up different types of trades for buying/selling and much more. He answered all questions and was extremely knowledgeable. Next, I was accommodated by a last minute appointment with Jeff Jen immediately following the workshop. I had lots of questions about my current portfolio and needed guidance on what adjustments I should make. He spent over 2 hours with me, walking me through everything thoroughly and answered all of my questions. I left their office feeling confident and knowledgeable enough to make my decisions. Jeff had also asked Jared Landis to help me with setting up some automation for my account transfers because the tool had some limitations to what I wanted to accomplish. Jared has since followed up with me after he found the solution to suit my needs. The team at this office has been nothing but impressive to me with how helpful they have been. Really awesome customer service. I am a young adult trying to sell stock for the first time in my life and went in with my grandmother. The professional that helped us was named Tricia N., and she was so helpful, kind and thorough that I would recommend everyone to ask for her. I went in and was immediately greeted warmly by her. After explaining my situation and what I needed to do she got to work. Tricia explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and the best part was her honesty. She sat on line with a representative on my behalf, printed out all the documents I needed and explained exactly what I needed to do in order to sell my stocks in the most efficient and profitable way for me. Schwab BANK is THE BEST. Ok, first off, this review is NOT for this location. I've never been to a single location because Schwab Bank is SO AWESOME on the phone / web. But I gotta put the review somewhere. First off, if you're with B of A, Wells Fargo, Chase or even a Credit Union..... Change banks immediately! Major banks are a rip off and my credit union is good, but very limited for online access, while traveling, etc. Although, credit unions may be better for auto loans / mortgages. OK, why is Schwab the best? 1) CUSTOMER SERVICE. First time I called because I was having trouble opening a checking account (I'd heard they were the best bank for people who lived / traveled abroad). The guy was AWESOME. He spent about 30 minutes discussing things with me, and was unable to open the account, but explained why and even how I could work around the problem (although maybe he wasn't supposed to tell me that). Finally, he concluded the call with this, "Well, sorry we could open an account for you today, but I certainly hope you'll consider us in the future. And feel free to call us if you have any questions about banking, money while traveling, or anything at all. Even though you're not a customer, we'd love to help you in any way we can." Seriously? You want me to call you with any money questions even though I'm not a customer? Yup, that's exactly what he was offering: I should consider them my go-to for financial questions. Awesome, already wanted the account, now I won't consider anyone else. 2) FLEXIBLE. I wanted to buy a car while in Thailand for 6 months. No problem, to save me money / time / hassle on wire transfers, they'll just up my daily ATM withdrawal limit to $5,000 for a week. And since all ATM fees are refunded, I just paid the exchange rate. Needed $11k in cash for another car purchase in the US - no problem, up the ATM limit again. Or overnight a cashiers check (not available at locations). Or give me a one day high limit for my debit card. Or do a wire transfer since EFT takes a few days to clear. Basically, I call, I get a real person, and they give me OPTIONS, usually without fees. 3) NO FEES. Okay, they actually do have standard $20 charge for incoming wire transfers and $10 for the cashier's check.... But who doesn't?! The fees are minimal and often waived / worked around. ATM fees refunded. Never been charged for ANYTHING unexpectedly. 4) ABOVE AND BEYOND. I had one automatic payment that was about to set me negative by $17 because an incoming wire transfer hadn't cleared. THEY contacted me about it, saw my account had a good record, and credit my account with $17. And they never took it back. Meaning, instead of charging me for a possible over-limit withdrawal, they actually GAVE me the money to cover it. Of course, if they ever decide to take their $17 back, I have no complaints. Seriously - they gave me (or temporarily lent) the money to cover my mistake. Any other bank would have charged $25 to lend me $17... or simply rejected the automatic withdrawal and caused another set of headaches and fees. Conclusion I also use a few other services (investments, etc), but am mainly reviewing the BANKING services here. The are number one, bar none. I've tried several major institutions (who charge too many fees and act like they're doing you a favor) and minor ones (who don't have the 24hr service & excellent web / mobile platforms)... Charles Schwab Bank is so far ahead of the competition that they truly are in a class of their own. I'm never leaving - Schwab for life. read more

IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. I went in to deposit a check and the girl working at the front, CARISSA, was so snotty. As I turned to walk out, I look behind me and Carissa and the other girl working were pointing at me and laughing. WTF? So my husband calls the office and Carissa answers. He asks her why she was so rude, and disrespectful to me. Her response? "Umm *snickering* I don't know what you are talking about. Have a good night" then hangs up the phone. Seriously? So first she laughs at a customer, then laughs at us on the phone, then hangs up on us. I will be closing ALL my accounts at Charles Schwab. I do NOT need this type of customer service. My advice - steer clear of this office unless you want to receive the same horrible customer service from Carissa. read more

This review is really for the whole company. 1st off, they run a really shady business because I was charged hidden fees that could have been easily avoided if I was made aware. 2nd, IT TOOK THEM 32 DAYS, 3 OF THE SAME SIGNED FORM, 5 PHONECALLS, 4 EMAILS, & 5 LIVE CHATS FOR THEM TO FINALLY SEND ME AN ATM CARD. Basically what happens is you submit forms and get no response for weeks. You contact them, and they have no clue. They ask you to send another signed form. Rinse, repeat. They have no clue. Send another form. "Oh, we did get the first form, but we needed more info." You ask why no one contacted you about this. They have no clue. They'll send it to you overnight. But, they forget to send it overnight, and you end up getting it two weeks later. I'M THROUGH! I WASTED $75 AND 6 HOURS OF MY LIFE FILLING OUT FORMS AND TALKING TO THEIR CRAP CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL FOR NOTHING! IT SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD TO DO YOUR FREAKING JOB AND PROCESS THE FORMS I SEND YOU, AND FOLLOW-UP! read more
