We have had retirement accounts with Charles Schwab for several years, and we find their staff to be knowledgeable, dedicated, and truthful. There are four 800 numbers that send you to a specific "trading desk" expert who will answer your questions, but does not sell you the investment. Do not trust this location with your money. My mother who is retired lives on Social Security and some small inheritance lost about $6000 due to taxes because of Michelle. She recently went to see Michelle at the Reno office to help her navigate moving some money around to hopefully buy a house. My mother went and got her taxes done and found out she owes the IRS 6k and is in the tax bracket of 22%. For those who live of social security that was half her income last year flushed down the toilet. When speaking with another Schwab rep at another location we learned she could have got the money she needed for the house penalty and tax free. When confronting Michelle about this she said she doesn't know where she put her money and why she didn't take it from the correct account. Mentioned she would look into it but we have yet to hear back from her or any manager. Michelle is completely incompetent with her job or completely doesn't care. I wish Yelp had something more streamlined for reviewing national banks or things like it, but here I am. I agree with the earlier reviewer- the interest paid on all deposits (no minimum balance), and refunds for ALL ATMs are great. Extra bonus for not charging a fee at international ATMs (which also means you can exchange money without paying a fee!). I lived in London for a year, traveled a lot, and Schwab made that very easy. Most banks have documented histories of paying settlements over discrimination, profit-gouging, and other abuses (see pretty much every big bank) or spend tons on lobbying for loopholes and anti-consumer regulations. I've scoured the web and I never see Schwab implicated in those terrible practices. Schwab bank is unique in how consumer-friendly it is. Normally I'd be attracted to credit unions or start ups like Simple- but with Schwab I really have everything I'm looking for! read more

Recently lost a family member who had an investment account with this dreadfully dishonest company. For over 3 months we have been unable to close the account and distribute the funds to family. They are Intentionally Delaying the disbursement of our funds. The representatives are Uninterested in assisting us and only want to Delay, Mislead or otherwise discourage us. We just want to settle our deceased's debts, and move on. We cannot even pay for the funeral and burial due to Schwab's foot-dragging, excuse-making and flat out lying. Are these extravagant charges? Not at all. This is a dishonest, crooked, corporate train wreck with arrogant, hostile reps who repeatedly hang up, or put you on Endless Hold. Unfortunately, I have concerns with Schwab. I went to a branch with paperwork regarding an inherited CD (it was clearly so marked). They opened a Roth account. That was inappropriate; it wouldn't receive an inherited fund. I had to go back to have the inherited IRA opened. Later, I sent a retirement fund (which had nothing to do with inheritance) into my non-inherited IRA account. Schwab mistakenly placed it into my inherited funds account. I had to make numerous calls to correct this. Finally, I received my statement, on which my home address was incorrect. Charles Incompetence, err I mean Schwab does not inspire confidence. read more

There a many reasons to "Talk to Chuck," and even more reasons to house your money at Chuck's place. One of the best reasons to use this broker and his bank is Chuck's conveniently located local branch, found just beyond the old SW on McCarran. Chuck pays higher interest on your money than do traditional banks and there are no fees whatsoever, including ATM fees because Chuck refunds all ATM charges assessed by other banks. Unlike most brokers and banks, from the moment you deposit a check into your Schwab trading account, it's credited to your account and you can buy stocks or funds. You can even get on one of the several cubby-holed computers at their office to make a trade if you need to make the trade Right Now!!! Customer phone service is consistently excellent. It's been 3 years since I opened my bank account at Charles Schwab. Their customer service continues to floor me. It's actually quite fun to talk to them on the phone, and I love that they crack jokes. There are still no international/atm/checking fees. I don't know why you wouldn't bank with them. I walked into the Charles Schwab branch on Kietzke to take care of a minor issue with a joint TD Ameritrade account with my now deceased father. Although impressed by the esthetics of the rather large and new branch, it seems excessive due to the apparent lack of business volume. After a wait at the front desk all the while being helped by a visibly disinterested female employee who was fumbling around between computers - alluding to not having access to TDAmeritrade accounts, she excused herself and went to an office. A short time later, she emerged with a male employee, who seemed annoyed. He asked me how he could help me in a less than friendly tone and asked me to accompany him to his office. I had to explain the simple request once again which was completed after an over winded and unnecessary conversation. The overall experience seemed contentious for such a simple request. I opened accounts at Schwab in 2008 and Umpqua in 2011. Both accounts have high portfolio balances. I have found Schwab to be obstructionist, non-responsive and they invent reasons for nonsensical paperwork. Umpqua, on the other hand, has been very easy to work with. In the past 12 months I've met my Umpqua account manager many times, usually at his suggestion. I've NOT ONCE met my Schwab account manager - and I've been a client for almost 5 years! September 12, 2018 at 1325. To the female teller closest to the window working with me at the time, unfortunately, I didn't catch her name. She was extremely rude and short with me. Very unwelcoming towards my wife and I. We were simply attempting to deposit some cash. We were unaware that they no longer accept cash and can only do check or money orders. The teller was very rude when explaining this to us and, frankly, made us feel beneath her. My wife and I waited very patiently in line and we were the only ones there besides a customer in front of us working with a male teller. I have had only one dealing with Charles Schwab and am totally un-impressed. I took my son (25 year old military vet) into the Reno office to open an account. I have dealt with Schwab's competitors for years and have had outstanding service. However I have heard good things about Schwab over the years and they have a conveniently located office here in Reno. So we thought we would give them a try. Totally unimpressed. No explanation whatsoever on the services offered by Schwab. No explanation on what types of accounts were available. Not even a brief sales pitch. The front desk lady handed us a form and told us to sit in the corner to fill it out. Fortunately I was with my son as I was able to lead him through the form. Otherwise he would have been at a total loss. No help from the representatives at all. We handed the lady the completed form and received a very curt any questions? that was it. She told us that we would be hearing from them after everything was processed. I figured we would at least receive a "thanks for choosing Schwab" or something like that. No such luck. They acted as if they were doing us a favor for letting us open an account there. Don't know if this is typical of Charles Schwab or just the Reno office. However I will stick with their competitors. read more

Was very enthusiastic about this bank based on other reviews. Beware they hold your paper checks hostage for over two weeks. Employer and employer's bank indicated monies cleared on their end, still Charles Schwab bank could not find the money, apparently lost somewhere, in the meantime they keep your deposits on hold and send you a letter every week. Charles Schwab Bank lives up to its promise to give higher interest on balances. That's the good news. Potential customers should also be aware of some things that the Bank does not advertise. (1) Deposits must be mailed to Reno, NV and can take up to 5 business days to show up in your account. (2) Contrary to another review on Yelp, the bank DOES NOT refund all ATM fees. The rebate of ATM fees is capped at $9.00 per month. More than that you have to pay yourself. (3) If you need services like a Cashier's Check you are limited to dealing with the Reno office via courier. (4) You will still have to deal with a local bank for a safe deposit box. (5) You can't use your Schwab Bank checks at merchants that only accept checks from a local bank. (6) The interest rate moves with the economy. When Charles Schwab Bank opened, the interest rate was 4.25%. Today (2008-06-19) the interest rate is only 1.99%. read more
