Awful experience trying to open an account at Tysons Schwab office!!!! Customer service is my top consideration when deciding where to transfer my funds. I've give Schwab multiple chances over the years, phone customer service is useless, so I decided to walk into the actual brick and mortar and out of 21 business cards of displayed cards of their in-house professionals not a single one was available to have a conversation with me to discuss my options and to help me!!! The receptionist offered for me to stand at the counter and open an account online, but a further discussion had to be by appointment only. No walk ins are accepted here at all. The two guys at reception had very low attention span and kept asking the same questions over and over without listening to my answers. How on earth does Schwab stay in business?? read more

Had a Schwab retirement account for many many years and only recently had to visit a branch in person. Worked with Sean Shaughnessy (VP, financial consultant) from this branch for the last 4 months and he has been so helpful to us setting up accounts, POA, transfers, and all sorts of random finance and tax questions. We mostly self direct but he answered a lot of my questions and is so responsive. We had terrible experience with investment consultants at another bank that we paid a lot of fees to, it was a complete nightmare, so glad we finally pulled the money out and can now self direct. read more

Charles Scwab is no longer run by professionals and stockbrokers. It's run my computer geeks like the ones at Best Buy - a self-service operation staffed by nerds who sit behind desks and play with computers and cell phones. Don't believe me - call ANY of the phone numbers listed and TRY to reach a human being; just try !!! I stopped trying to use their AI phone system long ago and started going into the branch offices instead. THIS branch attempted to transfer a very large retirement account into my Swab account. The first attempt FAILED when they forget to mail the signature pages on the transfer documents. The second attempt FAILED when they forgot to send the notary authorization form. I have a 9 year old nephew that can put 6 pieces of paper into an envelope and mail it, but it took these guys 3 times and several weeks of wasted time to get it right. I tried calling the branch manager and assistant manager several times and got voicemail, but never even the common courtesy of a callback. If you do business with Schwab, you better get used to baby-sitting or doing things yourself !!! They simply don't care if you do business there or not. read more

I came from TDAmeritrade and at the urging of a friend I made an appt with a Darnelll Stewart at Schwab Tysons. I found him totally unhelpful and disapproving of my portfolio without any serious suggestions how to improve it. I wasn't asking for individual stocks, just overall guidelines. He didn't even take time to ask me what my overall strategy was. I am considering if I want to change to another brokerage. read more

Called the 1-800-435-4000 and have been on hold for 53.15 minutes and still waiting for someone to pickup. Also system has been down at key trading times. They compensated me $250, which was not enough given my dissatisfaction with their phone, app, and website, not being usable to do trades. What is going on? read more

My family encountered a significant failing in Schwab's customer service while working on my mother's final tax return. After she passed away, our trust account was closed. Now Schwab refuses to provide an electronic file, and actualy said they could only mail us a 1099-B. We spoke with several Schwab people. They are far behind the times, and inconveniencing us significantly while we are remembering of our loss. We had no issue with exactly the same situation for a trust account with American Funds. read more

Love the bank, love the people. The customer service at the 1-800 number is very nice and helpful. And you never have to wait on hold to get a person. They have an amazing check account with interest, no fees what so ever. Only downfall is no BANK branch but they refund ATM fees world wide. No limit, no minimum. I used it in PERU, and worked like a charm. The Tysons branch as well as the Rockville, MD branch are very helpful to solve your brokerage issues. I had rolled over and IRA there and they help you set proper finical goals and suggest good strategies with you to their legal limit to invest. read more

This review is for the banking portion of Schwab generally and not for this branch, though this will be my "local" if I ever need to do anything in a brick and mortar CS outpost while I'm at home. I just opened my Schwab accounts so this review might be a bit premature, but after my customer service experiences with Schwab so far I felt compelled to write a review. Their customer service is awesome. I've used the live chat and the phone. I've had almost no wait with either service (1 to 2 minutes for chat, none for phone) and always spoke to a live person, not a machine. All the CS reps I've spoken to have been uncommonly friendly and warm. My needs and questions were taken care of immediately and I've been more than satisfied with the outcomes of these interactions. Besides the customer service, the reimbursement of ATM fees, the ability to use any ATM without being charged by my bank (especially overseas), and no foreign transaction fees are huge for me since I do a lot of traveling. It's also very cool that it's an interest-yielding checking account, meaning your balance is earning interest instead of just sitting there twiddling its thumbs. (The "High Yield" might be a misnomer, though.) And no minimum balance or monthly service fees are right up my alley. All in all I'm extremely satisfied with my Schwab experiences. I made my first visit to the Tysons Corner, Virginia Schwab yesterday and was pleasantly met by Sophia at the front desk. I needed to make an update to my account and Sophia happily took it upon herself to make some quick calls and then to guide me through the computerized avenues in the Lobby computer system to get the changes I needed to my account. I cannot over state how helpful Sophia was. Her knowledge, confidence and patience in assisting me was incredibly reassuring and calmed my qualms of making such important updates. Sophia was more than professional and kind and I really appreciate her overlooking my tech shortcomings and solving my problems. Very appreciative! read more

This is really a review of the online brokerage Charles Schwab, not this particular office. Schwab provides online trading for stocks, bonds, options, and some other instruments for both US and some international securities. They provide, via their, website financial information such as market capitalization , income statements, cash flow statements, reports by providers such as S&P as well as their own in-house research. They also provide customer service. I recently had occasion to deal with their customer service when asking questions about data on their website and data in their own research reports. Having called them a number of times over a period of years their response was typical of their declining service levels. You can usually get through quickly to the 800 number and if that is what's important to you as opposed to receiving correct answers then you may be happy with Schwab. about half the time when you call up you will be randomly asked questions such as mother's maiden name, etc. I say randomly because these questions should only be asked if you are asking questions about your account. If you call up to ask the address for Schwab, its puzzling why they need to know your mothers maiden name. So it's an annoyance but its also inconsistent customer service. I believe good customer service is consistent and that if Schwab trained the people who answer the phone consistently, they would then act consistently. Accounts at some point get assigned "consultants". I've found that the response time to questions I email in (I gave up trying to reach him by phone) is measured in weeks. When I asked how long it should take for a response to a questions, the reply was "a week or so". This doesn't seem like good customer service to me. I believe a customer should receive a response within one business day. I called up when I noticed a discrepancy in the price/earnings ratio of a stock I was investigating and the person on the phone agreed with me that it seemed odd. Indeed he commented that it was a good question. He assured me that he would call me back the next day with an answer to my question and the other one I asked. Never heard back from him. I believe good customer service is responding within the interval you promise. I recently wrote in asking about the basis for some numbers in Schwab's own research reports and received answers that while, in English, were not related to the question I was asking. After a series of emails and phone calls I got an answer that was in part "It would help if he looked at weekly ratings..." and "...it's impractical to update stocks one-at-a-time based on individual ..." My, admittedly subjective, perception was how dare I ask a question. I think being reluctant and defensive about answering what the basis for your own financial research is does not qualify as good customer service. My criteria for outstanding service includes getting back to customers in one business day, doing what you say (call people back when you say you will), and be willing to have an open dialogue about the financial data you post on your web site for people to base investment decisions on. Schwab provides none of this. I do not get the impression from dealing with a variety of folks at Schwab that customer service is something that's important to them. read more
