This is what a dentist's office should be. Very thorough and a far step above the corporate dental care centers.

This man should be ashamed of himself. I went here thinking "A dentist is a dentist." Boy, was I wrong. The cleaning with the hygienist was fine, but once he came into the room, things went downhill quickly. First, he questioned my latex allergy ("How do you KNOW you have a latex allergy), more or less suggesting I was inventing it. I have never had a medical professional do this. Next, he starting suggesting procedures. He wanted to rip out all of my amalgam fillings, telling me that they were "dangerous" and that he could replace them all with new white feelings that would be less unsightly. He insisted on the work. I made an appointment for the next day to begin the long and arduous process of replacing all of my old fillings (and there are lots). When I got home, I started researching. Having worked for a health insurance company for 5 years, this rang sort of fishy to me. Why would my insurance pay for procedures that were not medically necessary? There was nothing wrong with my fillings. This would be all cosmetic. I called a friend who worked in a dental office for ten years to ask her about the claim that the amalgam fillings were unsafe. She told me that claim was totally unfounded, and that it was the process of REMOVING them that was dangerous. As they drill out the old fillings, you risk swallowing pieces. I immediately called his office to cancel my appointment, which I had made hours earlier, and was told that there was a 24 hour cancelation policy, and that I'd be liable for a fee. I told her I had only just made the appointment, so there was literally no way to cancel in that timeframe. I also told her not only would I not be paying the fee, but that I was going to call Delta Dental and report suspicious activity. Having worked for an insurance company, I knew they could flag all of his claims for further review, checking for upcoding, and requesting xrays to substantiate the need for the work performed. This would slow down his payment process, but ensure that he only got paid for the things that needed to be done. He called me within 10 minutes to try and intimidate me into not calling the insurance company. He insisted that my recollection was wrong, and that he never intended to perform the procedures he, himself, has told me I needed merely a few hours before. He actually raised his voice to me, at which point I told him I found his conduct deplorable and that I was disconnecting the call. I never did make the call to Delta Dental, but I wish I had. It seems this is a frequently occurring issue with him, as I just read a bunch of reviews on a ratemds site that recount the same tales. Charles Strumfeld is raking advantage of people in a blue collar town who just trust whatever the doctor says. read more

He is a scam artist. I went to have one tooth removed, he went and did all this other work without asking or discussing cost. He blew through 2000 with of insurance. When i got the bill that day , i could have sworn it said 70$ and change. I go back to pay it and all of a sudden he claims I owed him over 1000$. Then tried to say my recollection was off because the novocaine made me "loopy". Novocaine would not have that kind of effect on me. I know what I saw. I would remember if I agreed to pay all of that money. I refused to to pay it and it went over to a collection agency and effected my credit for years. I thought he took advantage of me because I was 19-20 years old. Then I learned others had a similar experience with him, including my father. I also think his secretary is in on his scams too. I will never forget her face that day, like maybe she had some guilt about what they were doin to me. Please, if you decide to go to this man, pay close attention. Charles has been a true life saver. After years of neglecting the dentist I found myself in a lot of pain from various cavities. It was so unbearable I got on the phone that friday. The first two dentists I called didn't give me a good feeling. I called Dr Strumfeld's office and he answered the phone. We discussed my problem over the phone and he invited me in to pick up papers to come in following monday for xrays. Even leaving me with encouraging words over the phone. I arrived for xrays and was taught alot about my teeth and some misconceptions I had about my teeth. After teaching me about this stuff for over and hour he arrived upon a plan to fix my teeth fully with several extractions and fillings, for a very reasonable price. He was also very kind and inspirational, telling me that I can turn things around for my teeth and my health. It's always been hard for me to find and keep a good dentist but I respect Charles very much and hope to work with him as long as I live nearby! ***Update*** I got work done by Dr Strumfeld about two weeks ago now. He did many fillings and an extraction. He has fixed most of my problems quite affordably, and I'm feeling great about the whole situation. I had a true emergency, and needed to find a local dentist that would see me quickly. The others in the office, the hygienist, assistants, x-ray tech were all great, professional and pleasant. Dr. Strumfeld took plenty of time with me, explaining my treatment options and taking finances into consideration. He is such a kind man, and a gentle dentist. I had more work done at Dr strumfeld's office. I was very pleased. Dr strumfeld is very skilled at his profession he has a lot of experience. I originally found him when I was in severe pain he helped me out. In fact I called three different dentists and the other two didn't even bother calling back and I received a call from him within the hour. I neglected my teeth for a long time and his staff or himself did not make me feel bad about it at all. He came up with a game plan and he executed it. Very happy and will be back. You couldn't tell when you enter this moderate looking office that the best dentist in the country works here.I had the worst toothache the other day and I called him up and his staff was almost as sweet and kind as the dentist was competent.He took me right away and worked out a payment plan because I did not have any dental insurance. That is what kept me from calling a dentist until the condition became an emergency. Dr. Charles Strumfeld , treated me like a mensch. He had me under dental surgery for 2 and 1/2 hours. would you believe it didnt hurt either.I was deathly afraid of dentists ever since childhood. He had a way of shooting me up with novocaine first and then sticking bigger needles in so it was painless. I recommend this dentist to everybody. He was honest and didnt charge me a cent more than planned and he was nice and not snobby. Actually he was really down to earth and could understand my fears and concerns .
