Very thorough dentist. I had a crown put in today. Dr K and her staff are very competent and friendly.

After trying a vitamin gummy, I lost a crown. I was warned by Dr K, not to be too aggessive with flossing and I think I was careful. But the crown popped off, it was more than 5 years old since the original implant. The original crown was with another practitioner, but Dr K was able to clean and prepare the crown for reimplantation. Less than two day wait to be seen, less than 5 minute wait for the actual appointment in office. After approximately 10 minutes, my problem was solved-- the crown was re-cemented in place. I threw out the gummies. I use GEHA high option for insurance, and have never been disappointed with my share of the cost for services. GEHA allows three cleanings per year, and I have zero co-pay. No fees for parking on New Scotland Ave is another added attraction. I have never had a bad transaction with Dr Kanakasabapathi or her polite staff. Dr K and her receptionist failed to verify with my dental insurance for coverage. She tried to have me to pay for a service my insurance didn't cover during my 2nd appt to fill a cavity. They were very unprofessional with talking to the insurance rep and myself. She failed to honor the filing appt because of their error in billing. I had to wait until the next billing cycle in order to see another dentist which caused my cavity to worsen over time and now, I need a root canal in which my insurance doesn't cover. For future patients, please make sure they do not perform any services that are not covered by your insurance unless you agree to the service/payment up front. read more

This was the best and least painful experience getting a crown ever. Thought you may never hear these words about dental care, right? I don't know where my previous review went, but I'll write it again. New to the area and found Dr. K through Yelp. Have had a lot of dental issues in the past and I'm skeptical about dentists. I was able to see her for an emergency filling early in the morning, and then come back for my annual. Turned out that I needed to get to TWO caps at once. Dr. K uses porcelain crowns and a technique that requires less shaving of the tooth, and a liquid foam for the base where the gum meets. No more packing of those painful springs, to mold, into my gums ever! Dr. K is very easy to talk to, calm, and very knowledgeable. She noticed some things about my bite and placement of teeth that was causing my issues. Her staff is very nice too. I'd be happy to go back, but I hope not too often - for my teeth's sake. PS. I can't say much since I haven't needed to have any fillings or procedures since I became Dr. K's patient a couple years ago (knock on wood). Everyone here is friendly, from the receptionists to the dental hygienist, to Dr. K. They called me to remind me to make an appointment when it slipped my mind, which I really appreciated. The office moved to its current location shortly after I became a patient, and it's welcoming and cheerful. Great for AMC/Sage/law students since it's walking distance. read more

I was a longtime patient of Dr. K's office predecessor, Dr. Banner, and thought highly of the office staff. As such, decided to try her out after he retired (many of the staff stayed). The staff are professional and wonderful. Unfortunately, I had a two-part problem regarding a toothache and resulting filling One is that after the office moved locations in April, they became an out-of-network provider, at least temporarily, which resulted in a $200 charge for the service. On the heels of this review, the office did promptly removed these charges and presumably resolved their network issues with my insurer (and several others). However, I have remaining concerns about this provider in light of the same toothache. Although I was in pain, they left me without medicine or a temporary solution for over a week before I got the filling I needed. While Dr. K's bedside manner is very nice, the filling wasn't done at all. Once that filling was done, she failed to smooth out the job and the area is still causing issues in my mouth. Because of my insurance issues, I haven't (previously) been able to resolve this. I plan to return soon to do so and the practice has been proactive in following up. read more

Thank you so much to Dr. K for rescuing me with a bad tooth (root canal) on a major holiday. She is very meticulous and I felt a real sincere concern for providing the best care. Also in this practice she uses a pain killer that is very effective but also does not numb your entire face for the rest of the day. I recommend this practice. read more

Best dentist I have ever been too. She is very thorough which you want when someone is working on you teeth. Small office, nice staff, really cares and wants you to understand what's going on. NOTE: Both appointments thus far have been late to start but worth it for good service on something as important as teeth. read more

Dr. Banner has been my source for all things dental for since 1992: *Routine (checkups and cleanings) *Elective (veneers, mouth guards, and NTI device) *Emergency (loose filing and a root canal) In every area he and his staff are competent, professional and friendly. One of the elements of his practice that I respect (and have benefited from) is the integration of new tech into his practice. He has moved way beyond the terrifying "Marathon Man"-style drills to the "Star Trek"-like Water Laser! It's newer, faster, and can painlessly do dental things that previously needed a few hits of novocaine to tolerate. I almost wish I needed some work down just to see him use it again. Almost. If you want to see his work, ask me to smile (but not after drinking red wine... cause that sort of defeats the purpose.) PS: Despite his street address, he is NOT evil. read more

I did not feel like I was in good hands! I chipped a back tooth and the solution they came up with was to mix some powder and oil on a post-it note and jam it up into the missing portion of my tooth. I'll never be going back. Also, customer service was horrid! read more

The worst experience ever!!! I was new to this office, it was an emergency. I went in because I had an impacted wisdom tooth and admittedly not have been to my regular dentist in a while. It was close to my work and could take me right in the same day I called. The place was filthy, they did not even put a plastic wrap around the piece I had to bite down on when I took my xray. They charged my insurance company for a check up they never even gave me. The dentist never even looked in my mouth or did any cleaning or checkup. She looked at xray and sent me to the oral surgeon. She actually put down that I needed all my wisdom teeth pulled, when I already had my right side done and the 2 top wisdom teeth are not even ready to come out. I would not recommend this dentist office in the least. read more

Similar experience as Alice...I first brought my daughter here for a free cleaning and just brought her back in for some routine work. I stayed in the waiting room the whole time and after additional (albeit unauthorized work), I walk up to the counter and get slapped with a huge bill. Either they really can't read an x-ray or they purposely under-quote in order to suck you in and slap you with a big fee. Needless to say my family won't be returning. read more

Dr. K and the staff were very nice and knowledgeable. However, my bill for a new patient appointment and cleaning was $135. This office DOES accept my insurance but completed a type of X-ray NOT covered by my plan, so I was shocked to receive such a high bill. When I called to inquire, the receptionist told me it was my responsibility to know what is covered by my plan. She's not wrong; however, upon talking with a friend, she had the same experience at this office. In my opinion, a first office visit with x-rays and cleaning is as standard of a dental service as you can get. If an office chooses to include a non-standard type of x-ray in their new patient services (i.e., one not covered by all accepted insurance plans), they should clearly share this information so patients can opt out. read more

Dr. Banner not only has been my dentist since I moved to Albany in 1995, he and his staff were able to calm my husband enough to have his teeth cleaned for the first time in 15 years. My husband has been going regularly ever since. Now, Dr. K has taken over the practice. She is an outstanding professional with great "chairside" manner. I will be seeing her to have a guard fitted to control my snoring. The staff were wonderful and efficient at gaining insurance approval. read more

Dr K is not my regular dentist, but she saw me on emergency basis when my dentist was out of town and I couldn't find another open dentist office that could take me in last minute. I had a broken filling that needed repair and I was anxious as I was about to go on a trip for two weddings! She was so accommodating and kept me calm while she gave me a temporary filling that lasted well past my trip. I was able to relax and enjoy all the food at the weddings. If I didn't already have a dentist I love, I would definitely be seeing Dr K! I would recommend her a thousand times over. read more

If I could write this review without giving one star I would. I called as a new client and was given a Saturday morning appointment. Did any of the employees show up for my appointment? Absolutely not. I called and left a voicemail wondering why they gave me an appointment on a day they weren't open.. have they called back to explain? Absolutely not. Serves me right for going to a dentist that advertises by leaving clipper coupons on doorsteps. I am a full-time medical student and dental insurance is not provided, so I came to Dr. K for a new patient promotional offer - $69 for a cleaning and bitewing x-rays. I came in two weeks later for a "minor" cavity filling, for which I was provided a quote beforehand. By the time I get to the desk after my filling, I am charged TRIPLE the quote. Absolutely unacceptable, unprofessional and deceitful. If you have a cash-paying patient, TELL THEM what you are doing and how that will affect their billing. A healthcare professional should NOT just go ahead with extra work, blow the quote out of the water, say "tough luck" and stick their hand out to a patient who did not approve of and cannot afford the service. The service at this office is definitely worth $69 but once it gets north of $500 you're better off going elsewhere to get your money's worth at a decent, trustworthy practice...it's the same reason why you don't go to WalMart for a Louis Vuitton. It's no wonder they're desperate for patients, leaving coupons all over the city, and have wide-open schedules. If I wanted to get lectured by a rude, self-important receptionist (who seems to think she went to dental school) in a crumbling moldy office I would have gone to a free clinic. I would have gotten the same level of service for what it's actually worth: nothing. I don't know if I'm more upset that I was swindled by this deplorable office or that I can't give a zero star rating. read more
