Today was my six month check up and cleaning. I have been going to Dr Pray for a long time and he's the best. I am usually apprehensive about getting the cleaning, but today was different. Brook, the dental technician was wonderful. She was friendly, conversational (which made the time pass by quickyl) and painless. Brook is a nice new addition to the staff. On May 14th 2025 I went to Dr. Prays office to have a repair on a front tooth crown that (was installed by another dentist years ago) had come off. Dr Pray repaired to crown and charged me over $700 to do this. On July 13th, 2 months later the crown cracked from top to bottom. I went back to Dr. Prays office on July 15th for a 12 o'clock emergency appointment. After waiting 2 hours watching other patients going in to have work done and leaving i finally was seen by joy another dentist. After showing both joy and Dr. Pray the cracked crown they at first told me that they did work on that crown, that I came in for work on another tooth. The cracked crown was not repairable and I needed a new crown at the cost of $1650. I will have my crown fixed but diffently not by Thomas J Pray. Will never go back there. If I could leave negative stars I would. I was referred to Dr. Pray by a family member as I was looking for a new dentist. Dr. Pray indicated to me that I needed work on two of my molars as there was decay. I trusted that he would do quality work but I was very wrong. Instead if repairing the teeth, Dr. Pray opened up the teeth exposing the pulp and then just filling them over the nerves. The pain that I was in was excruciating and Dr. Pray offered only excuses, no solutions. He constantly spoke about money and paying his staff and how my (good) insurance would really help me but not him. Dr. Pray eventually said that I would need root canals. In an effort to relieve my pain, I agreed to let him start one root canal. I wish that I never allowed him to start as he was unable to finish the procedure, leaving me in more pain. Dr. Pray offered no pain relief except ibuprofen. He told me to contact a different doctor for pain relief. I finally reached out to an endodontist for help. Upon examination, it was found that Dr. Pray had in his hurry to make money missed several canals and failed to remove all of the nerves. As a result, I was required to have two root canals by the endodontist and crowns by my new, professional dentist. Between insurance and out of pocket expenses, it has cost over $10,000.00 to save my teeth and fix Dr. Pray's mistakes! Dr. Pray has never reached out to me to follow up on why I left his practice. He has too much going on in his office to take quality time to provide appropriate care. Dr. Pray is a terrible dentist. Was looking for a new dentist and they were taking on new patients and my mother in law recommended him. Couldn't have been happier. Staff was professional and polite and Dr Pray was friendly and had a good sense of humor. Had a tooth that had a root canal done to it years ago crack and needed to be removed. He explained everything throughly and painless. Procedure was done on a Wednesday, Dr pray called me personally on that Sunday to see how I was doing. Guy is a class act, found my new dentist. I found Dr prays office due to an emergency situation and they were the only ones that were open and agreed to see my son the Friday before Easter. We go and see Dr prays assistant Dr Zimmerman and got a plan together moving forward. Dr Zimmerman told us that we could have my son's teeth bonded instead of doing crowns to save money on cost. All sounded good until we returned the following week for the procedure. We see Dr pray this time and are informed that the bonding process is just temporary before the crown process. When I told him that isn't what Dr Zimmerman told us, he says well Dr Zimmerman doesn't always explain things the correct way. Red flag #1, so my son has his teeth bonded and than is told he needs a root canal so we schedule that and come back for that procedure. All the while my son's insurance isn't accepted here so we are paying a lot of money out of pocket. Dr pray likes to toot his own horn and compliment himself. After the root canal visit my son returns for a round of X-rays to see the shape of the rest of his teeth. On that visit he is told he needs 2 more root canals, teeth extracted and a partial plate !!! So we decided to make the appointment for the root canals because we believe what the dentist is telling us. The appointment that was made my son could not keep because he had to work. We called and rescheduled the appointment for a couple weeks out. Later that day I get a call from Dr pray himself telling me that if my son doesn't keep the original appointment that he is no longer going to see him as a patient. To say I was in shock is an understatement. He was very rude and basically threatened us into coming in. I will not be spoken to this way by anyone including a Dr. We found another dentist and will not ever return to Ballston spa dentist. They only want your money, no concern for the patient. I wish I had read the reviews about this Dr before I went there. Patients beware!! read more

I have had multiple crowns done here, one completely fell out and was charged $350 to have it glued back on. Had the other one chip eating a burger, they filled it in February and here in July filling fell out of the crown, so Tom pray tells me need another crown and will be charged for it. Crown is only couple years in. When he assured me these were supposed to be bullet proof. I pay cash for all my dental here and have known this man for decades, he does not stand by his work and is very rude and inconsiderate. I would not recommend him at all. read more

Operates like a storefront instead of a dentist. Staff has no clue how to do pre authorization and will tell you they except all insurance. They then do not submit them and stick you with the bill. Dental work is loose and they rush through it and take no responsibility for there actions. read more

Several years ago, Dr. Pray was highly recommended to me by my former dentist, with whom I had been very comfortable and trusted. I have not been disappointed. From day one Dr. Pray and his team--from receptionists to dental hygienists--have been friendly and professional. One of the things that I've found most helpful is not only their willingness to listen to any concerns and work with me, the patient, but to also provide thorough information about proactive dental hygiene and recommended procedures. In my opinion this dentist does unnecessary procedures in order to get himself more money. He changed the regular old fillings out that were in my four molars then filled them with porcelain ones, this lead to my losing these four teeth to root canals. He said that my dental insurance approved the work, so they thought I should get the old mercury (I believe this is what the old fillings are) fillings out, he added that mercury is dangerous for us. Do I think this dentist has skill? Yes, but in my opinion he puts money before his patients and does what is best for him only. read more

Mean dentist, not kid friendly by any means. My child had his 6-month cleaning and he said there was some Decay so he set us up for a second appointment and when we came in he said it was infected and that he wasn't going to touch it. Said he wouldn't pull it there and set up an appointment for an oral surgeon. For a 7 year olds baby tooth. I got a second opinion and another dentist and they took care of everything right then and there no problem. He's a mean dentist and likes to lecture people. read more

Dr. Pray was recommended to me by a friend two years ago. I have been very happy with his office. His staff are all of the highest quality. I never have to wait, as a matter of fact, the receptionist has upon occasion called to suggest that things are ahead of schedule and that I could come in a bit early. The hygienist is the most gentle and thorough one that I've come across. Dr Pray has all the latest technology available. He even spotted a bit of skin cancer on my lip with his new cancer screening tool. read more

In 2014 I was visiting family on a trip from Los Angeles and staying in the Saratoga area. One of my crowns on an implant became loose. I came to Dr. Pray's office to have the crown tightened. While on the telephone with my dentist from LA, instructing Dr. Pray on the type of implant I had and the torque at which it needed to be tightened, the screw broke inside the implant, leaving it irrepairable. He tried several times while on the phone with my dentist and oral surgeon, in an effort to utilize the best approach to remove the broken screw. After more than an hour of attempting to remove the screw, he referred me to an oral surgeon in Saratoga to see if she could possibly have any luck in it's retrieval. To no avail, she wasn't able to remove it either. Dr. Pray mentioned to me during this visit, "I should have ordered another screw". In all of our estimation, he knew it wasn't the best option but moved ahead and hoped for the best. I have since learned after consulting with my oral surgeon for the implant removal, once a screw fails, they aren't designed to be reset. They need to be replaced- "Dentistry 101" he called it. When I returned to Los Angeles, I visited my oral surgeon and my primary dentist and neither of them had success in removing it either. I have had extensive dental work over the course of my adult life and after having five implants and five implant crowns and some very complicated procedures, we decided to leave this implant alone as I didn't want to face yet another surgery. By the time 2014 came around I had finally, after 4 years of dental work and more than $40K of out of pocket expenses, had gotten my teeth to be 100% where I was happy and healthy. Losing this implant after all of that invested time, recovery and money was disheartening. Because this implant has not had a crown on it since 2014, I have significant bone loss and gum recession on the tooth in front of and behind the missing crown, in addition the gum area is abscessing. I can't leave it alone any longer and the failed implant needs to be removed. After consulting with two oral surgeons in the LA area, I have decided to have the failed implant removed and have received a cost estimate of $1500. I sent Dr. Pray and his office an email on 3/20/18 explaining the situation to him, in hopes he would be willing to discuss this with me and offer some sort of renumeration. I asked him as a gesture of good will, after speaking with my dentist what she would do and was told she absolutely would be willing to cover 1/2 the expense to have the implant removed, especially after admitting "I should have ordered a new screw". Almost 30 days have passed, I've followed up with 2 additional emails and 3 phone calls to his office and have received nothing more than an email from an office staff, Lia, while speaking with her on the phone that they had received my email and would be "speaking with Dr. Pray and getting back to me tomorrow". That was April 10, 2018 and still not even the courtesy of an acknowledgment phone call or email back. I have decided to stop calling and emailng Dr. Pray's office regarding this matter and instead will hopefully let my experience and review, in addition to a letter to the BBB and NYSED Professional Discipline Complaint, serve as a resource for anyone considering visiting Dr. Pray's office. I am a fair person and expect to be treated fairly as well. The lack of compassion or care and not accepting any level of accountability is absurd. read more

If i were able to leave negative stars i would. This place is awful. I went in for a procedure that i scheduled and paid my out of pocket expense, waited in the room for the dentist to come in which was about 20 minutes later. He then told me that he wanted to do something other than what i was scheduled for but had no time to do any of it and asked me to come back. I must have told him at leave 4 times i was not able to but they made the appointment anyways so i called the office as soon as i left that i am not able to do it and rescheduled for the following week. The dentist then called me and told me if i didn't come back that they were keeping my deposit that i gave them for the procedure I NEVER RECEIVED. I told the girl not to deposit my check 3 different times and she told me that they would not but did now they are refusing to give me my money back. What about canceling my appointment i had scheduled and you telling me you have no time to do it??? Also he told me that whoever did my cleaning didn't do a good job. When i told him it was his office he didn't say another word! So thanks now i have to go somewhere else to get my work done and to get another cleaning since it wasn't done correctly! Save your money and time and go somewhere else! I will be writing a letter to BBB and NYSED Professional Discipline Complaint. He can not continue to run his practice like this! This is my third dentist this year. I finally found someone who knows what they are doing! Dr. Pray is professional yet personable. He runs his business like a well oiled machine. He either drinks a lot of caffeine or just has a lot of energy! Lol. He virtually runs from one patient to the next. I would like to thank Dr. Pray publicly for continuing to accept CDPHP Healthplex Medicaid insurance. Completely absurd. They started out all nice - minus the fact that Dr. Pray referred to my fiance as "you people" because we have medicaid. Then because I refused fluoride for my 3 year old he refused to see him. I am sorry for making decisions for my own child that I am not comfortable with. We follow a holistic lifestyle as much as possible and do not believe in fluoride. This was after they convinced us to do x-rays on his teeth because we knew he had cavities (from lack of vitamin D) and Dr. Pray insisted he has been eating juice and candy meanwhile we have NEVER given those things to him. He needs to do a little reading on the holistic dental association. Also his hygienist was terrible with my son and they tried to give the fluoride multiple times when we already told them no and that we even brought our own toothpaste - which then resulted in Dr. Pray coming in and refusing service to us! read more

I came to Dr.Prays office in Feb 2014, looking for a new dentist because my other dentist no longer excepted my insurance, sadly. I needed a check up , so I thought, and was introduced to Dr.Prays office. With state of the art dental tools and machines I was impressed . I came in for one tooth concern, and was later told my tooth had no decay it was just stained. Not having any mouth pain, after being seen by my previous dentist for a number of yrs everything was fine. Then came the Novocaine. Dr. Pray aka Dr. drill & fill, gave me several shots, not knowing what was going on, just having a few teeth filled by my previous dentist and not having any mouth pain, I was like ok, maybe he found a cavity . He tilted my chair back and began to drill, and drill, and drill. Then I was asked to rinse, with my tongue I felt numerous holes huge ones in my teeth. Top bottom and both sides. Mind you I came in with no mouth pain or no issues. I was then informed that my insurance would only cover Amalgam, silver fillings, and he was doing me a favor by giving my Composite white resign fillings. Thinking to myself, I have no silver fillings, to begin with. Dr. Pray had removed all previous fillings that were white, that my last dentist just did over the past few yrs. The holes were deep, leaving just very little tooth, it was like Swiss cheese.Using a band to wrap around the tooth to fill, he had another staff member fill my teeth. It felt like my teeth were nothing but fillings, over filled and not properly reshaped and my bite was way off. Very uncomfortable. After leaving the office, I had severe mouth pain and began taking Naproxen 4 of them 3x's a day for mouth pain. I started with a small bottle then I carried a bottle of 500 with me every where, kept them on my desk, in my car everywhere just to avoid the severe mouth pain. I thought maybe in a few weeks the pain will go away, no we were now in the month of May, I was still in pain. I refused to go back to Dr.Prays office to endure even more pain. I waited until I had better ins, in Oct 2014, and went to a well known dentist. After a consultation and finding out I have huge fillings from the unnecessary work done at Dr. Prays office, I had a cracked filling , my guess from my bite being off. I didn't want to but, I did. even after friends,family and co workers said not to, I made an appointment at Dr.Prays office. Tooth # 12 has a cracked filling, one the Dr.Pray drilled and filled the heck out of. I sat in the chair, he had an assistant take a bite wing of the left upper quad my tooth pain was in, (both side were killing me) but the left was the worst. Dr.Pray looked at the x ray, and said, tooth # 13 was a dead tooth. I thought to myself, 13? He said we have two options. Pull it, or add it to my partial for 1,900 dollars cash (and not to tell anyone because that was a deal and everyone would want it done at that cost) because my ins wouldn't cover it. Really, the real cause of my tooth pain, tooth #12 with the cracked filling, he already was paid for so lets move on to a new tooth. Of course, I thought, This is the plan, re drill and fill teeth going deeper to the nerve, causing tooth pain, come back get a root canal and caps ( which he makes conveniently in his office). How ironic the state of the art machines. He makes his patients so uncomfortable in pain, they have no choice but to spend thousands on dental repair. The man is a complete brainiac . Well, Dr.Pray, here is your review you wanted to stay on the first pg of Google Dentist searches. I do hope this review helps others before they sit in Dr. Prays chair. read more
