My stay at the Charleston has been sub-par at best. 3 major incidents occurred within the 3 year span that has made me regret choosing The Charleston.
When I initially moved in, 3 years ago (2018) I was told that apartment had just been sprayed for insects. 2 days later, upon coming home from work later that evening, my apartment was INFESTED with several hundred ants. (See video for reference). They were all over the kitchen floor, and it wasn't until I was getting bitten while sitting on the carpet that I realized the ants were all in the carpet as well. When I emailed The Charleston all they said was sorry and they'd spray again... I ended up having to purchase my own spray and taking care of it.
The faucets were installed incorrectly, for the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, and shower. The toilet created a light condensation on the lid when it was closed, so I kept it open not thinking too much about it. I'm not sure why the previous tenets did not bring this to light, or maybe they did and never got properly fixed. Hot water came out of the cold side and vise versa, when I contacted The Charleston they fixed the skinks but not the shower. I let it go and moved on. Recently (December 4, 2020) the flapper within the toilet's tank broke, making the toilet run non-stop. It ran all day and all night, making the water in the toilet hot-not warm-but hot. The hot water for any other use was out, so I contacted The Charleston to make a maintenance request. I got a notification stating that the request had been closed, but the toilet was still broken, running, and hot. Nothing indicated that anyone actually came. I put in another order, to which they replaced the flapper. It breaks, again. I mention to maintenance, as the consistently running toilet is making me flush hot water (money) down the toilet. I had to contact a plumber, who told me the toilet was probably installed incorrectly (turns out it was). When I relayed the information to The Charleston, it was only then that they could properly address and fix the issue. I had to find out and tell maintenance what the issue was. By this time it's December 10 and my hot water bill is going to be hiiighhh. They call a plumber, fix the toilet, and I mentioned the shower once again to which they fixed as well. My MLGW bill is 60% higher than what it was this time last year, and even higher than the last month's bill. When I contacted Lacey, the regional manager, she failed to address the issue and offered $60 and excuses as a reparation for my troubles. Her response time is unacceptable as well, after a week of no response I went to the office to see if I had the correct email - the email was correct and I was told to resend the email. She was in the office earlier in the week, working a half day, and would be in later in the week. December 25 my toilet chain breaks again, while my mother was visiting for the holidays. I had to reach my hand into the toilet's water tank every time the toilet needed to be flushed. How embarrassing. I sent Lacey another email stating how $60 and excuses isn't acceptable, and yet another week goes by without a response. Unprofessional for a "luxury apartment"...
The Charleston promotes having a sherif and state trooper living in the complex. To make you feel more secure, but in reality I hear loud hollering, screaming, cussing, and in one specific instance, racist profanities from balconies over-looking the children's play areas (reported the instance since children were present, the woman began cussing and yelling on the phone me for looking at her...). The gated community is open half the time since people ram into the gates, causing them to break and remain open; or The Charleston allows the gates to be wide open for several days in a row. read more
