Chad was recommended to me by a family member. After three years of chronic pain and almost 9 months of "Pain rehab" with no results I have decided to take charge of my own treatment. I started seeing Chad on 1-5-26 with a pain level 10 because of muscle spasms in my back. As of 1-26-26 I would describe the pain as more of a soreness and no muscle spasms. I would give a zero star rating if possible. I walked into the door for the first time and a man-child, appropriately named Chad, stared at me as if I had three heads saying nothing. I gave my name and said I had an appointment. I asked how he was doing. He replied "fine, how are you?" I said fine and he retorted in an asinine tone of voice "Are you sure?". I had my two children with me because, well, I I HAVE CHILDREN. When I booked online it said it was a 15-20 minute appointment. Chad kept staring at me oddly. He asked if my children would be staying for my appointment. I responded that that was the plan and asked if it would be a problem. Keep in mind the place was completely deserted. He said "As long as they can be completely chill for 45 minutes." I laughed and jokingly asked if he had an acupuncture point to facilitate that. He again stared at my dryly without saying anything. It was quite the uncomfortable experience. I got the distinction impression we were not welcome there, so I let "Chad" know I would schedule acupuncture elsewhere when I had childcare. I have been going here for years. I went yesterday feeling awful with a 3 weeks long sickness of headache, coughing, congestion, fevers, and brain fog. I was miserable. Jessa patiently listened to my numerous issues, then placed the needles and got me a blanket. I almost went to sleep it is so peaceful there. After I left and came home within hours I would say I was 80% better. Today I am 100% better. The vibe of both Jessa and Chad are very calming and soothing every time I have been there. I would not go anywhere else. Their pricing is affordable for anyone to go. It is on a sliding scale. You give what you can afford between $20 and $60. I really enjoyed my experience at CCA. Making an appointment was really easy to do online and they have great appointment reminders/confirmation so you don't forget. The staff at the front-desk is super friendly and welcoming, as was the acupuncturist I saw, Nilsa. She was really thorough and knowledgeable. As some other reviewers have commented, it is indeed a community space, so you are not in a private room getting treatment. However, you also just roll up your pants and shirt sleeves (note: make sure you wear clothes that allow you to do this. my skinny jeans were a fail on that front) and lay back. The room I was in was really quiet and peaceful. I felt super relaxed. You can bring your own pillow/blankets if you really want to settle in and cozy up. The best part is that it is INCREDIBLY affordable. AND acupuncture is an eligible FSA expense, bonus! I am looking forward to my next appointment. read more

My husband and I had reached a point in our life where healthcare had failed us. After years of unnecessary treatments, painful procedures, and unmanageable bills even with health insurance we had had enough. We decided to take a hiatus from our health. I hit the books and decided we needed a new approach to healthcare. After many months of research I decided a holistic approach was best. By chance I happened to pass by Charleston Community Acupuncture and decided to step out of my comfort zone. Walking into the office I was a complete skeptic. I had it in my mind that the acupuncture was going to be a let down just like everything else. I filled out a very detailed health history form and had my first consultation with Chad. After a very thorough evaluation I headed back to the treatment area. It was a peaceful and comfortable setting. I must admit I relaxed, but my treatment was horrible The needles did not hurt going in. I as just unable to relax. In that moment I realized how I had not been taking care of myself, and just how bad our western healthcare system had gotten. I was so used to running around, multitasking, and juggling the world that I had lost the ability to sit and let go. I was so used to turning to pills to manage my life that I had neglected the spiritual aspects of my health. The discouragement I felt was enough to make me swear I would never go back. However when I get home I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders, and I had for the first time in years a full nights rest. I awoke the next day feeling refreshed. I knew the acupuncture was the reason. I decided to go back. After four treatments I was able to regain the ability to let go and meditate. Today Charleston Community Acupuncture is my safe place, is is my heaven. It is the one place where I can go and recharge. Chad and Nilsa do a wonderful job. I take full advantage of their acupuncture, cupping, massage, and herbal treatments. Since I have incorporated CCA into my life my health has drastically changed. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I went from barely being able to walk, due to a groin injury, to playing full out, intense, high level tennis after 4 visits. I played with about 50% relief after the first treatment and 75% relief after the second treatment. I was on the court for 2.5 hours today without an ounce of pain! Remarkable. I've been here a couple of times now for acupuncture and I intend to keep coming. The great thing about this place and that sets them apart from other acupuncture places is that is so reasonably priced. They work on a sliding scale with each treatment costing $20-$30 and you pay what you can (this is after your initial treatment which is more due to the cost of consultation). Anywhere else and you're easily paying triple or more per treatment. They're able to keep their prices low due to it being a community atmostphere, which means that you'll be getting your treatments in the same room as 1-3 other people. If you're not used to this, it can be a little distracting as people come and go. Also, both times I was in a room with people snoring...loudly. And it's unfortunate because you're there to relax and it's hard to do that when there's snoring. To combat this, they do offer ear plugs at the front desk. I highly suggest them. And then just close your eyes and try to concentrate on your breathing, and most likely you'll end up falling asleep (I did my first visit but not my second). Hopefully, you'll awake feeling refreshed and renewed. read more

I've enjoyed getting treatments here in the short time that I've visited Charleston. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the space is calming and relaxing. Location-wise, it's also fairly convenient, although a bit challenging to spot their sign on the first drive-by. I'm guessing they will be moving at some point in the future as they seem to be getting popular. This place has literally changed my life. I've been going to Charleston Community Acupuncture for about a year now and the impact this place has had on my life is unparalleled. I gave it a try on the suggestion of my best friend who had been getting acupuncture for years from various practitioners. He recommended that I give this place a chance. I am a medical professional as well as an eternal skeptic but I stepped out of my comfort zone and headed over to see Chad Houfek, L. Ac. I filled out the very comprehensive health questionnaire and was interviewed by Chad. During this interview, Chad left no stone unturned from my physical and psychosocial well being, to eating habits, to daily activities. During this comprehensive history and physical (I've known MD's that are nowhere close to being this thorough), he determined the best course of treatment and we proceeded to walk back to the serene treatment area. There are three rooms: the water or blue room, the wood room, and the massage room. They are all very relaxing places. After my first treatment, I immediately noticed a difference in the way that I interpreted certain life situations. My stress/anxiety level was reduced and my sleep quality was increased dramatically. I continued weekly treatments for a month or so. Eventually I was able to go two weeks between treatments and now go in about once a month with the same results. I am in grad school with a very demanding/stressful schedule. Several of my classmates now go to Charleston Community Acupuncture with similar results. The sliding scale payments make it easy for anybody to receive treatment regardless of their financial situation ($20-40 per treatment). If you have always wondered about acupuncture or haven't given it a try, I highly recommend you go see Chad or Zachari Cahn. You won't be disappointed. read more
