I was going to give 4 star because of how close it is to convention center and the place over all isn't too bad. Then button in elevator wouldn't take us down, so we had to trick it to go up levels so we can catch another elevator and that one has rattling doors where if you had a kid in there just keep them away from those doors... we let the staff know in the front and his answer was "Try the second panel in the elevator, and we have tried to fix the elevators before" (still scratching my head about that answer... because it ether works or it doesn't...) Room is alright. TV super outdated, no Netflix ect... things are a bit outdated. Beds are a bit stiff. Service is eh... some people are really nice others just tell you to deal with it. Hotel check in and everything was great except for the parking garage. The parking garage was not gated and was open for anyone to come in and park. Wednesday night at around 9pm, wanted to get something from my car so went down to the garage and saw an SUV parked with windows rolled down with 3-4 people inside the vehicle smoking something. The smell was awful and I felt not safe and was worried if my parked car would get vandalized over the night. Thankfully, my car was safe. I would recommend the hotel management to make sure none hotel guests do not have access to the parking garage. Taking off two stars because of how unsafe I felt inside the parking garage. read more

For a Marriott property in a downtown area - this needs a major overhaul. It's very rundown and outdated. The lobby smells musty and the furniture is worn. Not a great first impression. Our room was eh. The air never worked correctly. I never got below 72 and we had it cranked as low as it would go. Woke up to a cluster of bites on the inside of my leg. Nothing is super close as far as restaurants go. There is an outback and Chile's about 1/4 mile. We walked about a mile around downtown to find somewhere to eat aside from that two places. We have been on the road for 32 days, so reading the reviews did not give us high hopes. We decided we were going to try as we were exhausted and Berkley would've been another hour plus driving. Check-in went smooth and friendly. Offered upgrade immediately. Lobby was clean and temp was appropriate. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. We got into our room and the room had a slight off smell. Beds were okay. Room was clean however they do need to be updated to Marriott standards. Morning in Concierge Room was really enjoyable atmosphere. As with MANY Marriotts, there is little to eat for someone with food allergies. Gluten and dairy....I asked for Bread so I could at least have toast with fruit, they had to search for it. Finally found some. We left a couple items in the room and realized an hour after we left, we called the hotel and they found the items. Called us back and are shipping at no cost. I had a great experience at this hotel. They were able to accommodate an early check in and assigned me a clean room on the 15th floor facing the Coliseum and away from the elevators. The night was quiet as can be, the bed was comfy, and it was a good value for the price. I do wish they didn't charge extra for parking as it's in a dead part of town and that seemed unnecessary. I try to stay in Marriott's when I travel when possible so I was originally glad to have found this as we were planning a trip to the Charleston WV area. However, it was not your typical Marriott. Pros- Near interstate and the ice machine worked. Cons- Very dated interior. Beds were past the end of their normal use life. There was a big dip in the bed we were in. The wi-fi was very unstable and you had to manually connect to it each time you turned the phone or device on. There was no smart TV in the room. The walls were very thin... it was very easy to hear everything in the next room and hallway. Lastly, the AC unit was VERY loud. We did find a nice spot on the 3rd floor to sit outside for a while in the evening. read more

Josh at the check-in counter was wonderful and explained all the details of the hotel for my stay. He made me feel like a valued platinum member. We were only here for one night, so we did not experience many of the amenities. The concierge lounge is closed on the weekends, so that was unfortunate. Before I get into why the 2 stars, I will say the Service was great, friendly front desk staff, did have a problem with the T.V. In the room which was quickly fixed by a very friendly tech guy. Now For a Marriott and at $200+ this facility certainly was a huge disappointment. To start, there was no Valet Parking, the parking deck was unsecured, and we were told to remove everything from our vehicle, so had to totally unload the car, without the help of a Bellman, had to schlep luggage and items to the 11th floor ourselves, and then we were charged $15 to park our car in their unsecured, lot. The elevators were old and slow, the Hotel is in dire need of a refresh, it was very dated, old, and rundown. The carpets throughout the facility were stained, torn, and threadbare. The decor was old and out of date, and a chemical or attempted air freshener smell that was very overpowering. The Television in the room was very small and would not operate when we checked in, tried to call the front desk but that wasn't easy either, no real number for the front desk, and the button for service I did push, no one ever answered, so I went down to the desk to inform them. The TV was fixed quickly fixed but was still very small for a Marriott, and that price point. All in all Not at all what one would expect from a Marriott Hotel, very disappointed! read more

The concierge lounge is still closed due to COVID, but they accommodated us with a buffet breakfast, and allowed us to do takeout so we could eat in our rooms. The hotel itself, however, is extremely dated and in desperate need of a remodel. Other than the bed, which seemed newer, everything felt pretty dingy. I can't comment via other hotels in Charleston as this is the only one I've stayed in, but the whole area felt a little blighted so this may not be a worse option than the rest. We always stay at Marriot because they used to mean quality. This location is DISAPPOINTING! I LOOK FOR CLEANLINESS. The air-conditioning vent in our room appeared to have NEVER been cleaned, as was the light switch in the bathroom, it was black with grime. The windows were so filthy you literally could not see out of them. I always go around and wipe remotes and phones down before we settle in, but that didn't seem like enough at this place. I had lunch at the hotel and John was the bartender, he was super friendly and I saw him the next two days at breakfast as well. The cons: the room is dated, the bathroom is small I read on TripAdvisor that someone was complaining of the lobby and bar being cold... I thought it was just a one off, but it wasn't. By far, one of our favorite hotels ever! The lady at the front desk, Taya, was so nice and helpful! We checked in so quickly and the hotel was so beautiful and welcoming. Our room was on the 12th floor and the hallways and elevators were so clean! There is no connection from the parking garage to the hotel, so we left the car out front while we unloaded and it was so convenient. The room was so clean and beautifully decorated. The bar was so nice and we ordered room service which was so easy and we had it delivered to the room. The staff were so friendly and you can tell they love their job. The pool and gym were up to date and we enjoyed both of them. Overall, if we are in Charleston, WV again, $104 a night for all these amenities cannot be beat! Definitely recommend! read more

Did not live up to how much it cost. Bathroom was gross and beds were so tiny. The TV was not clear and only had true crime shows which are not very kind freindly. The lobby is better then the room I would rather just have slept outside then in this crummy place. It is safe I will never come here again and you should reconsider if you are going here CUZ YOU SHOULD NOT! If there was a no star option I would put that but I can't so you get one star!! Our stay at the Charleston Marriott Town Center was sub-par. When staying at a Marriott you expect a certain level of cleanliness and amenities but we did not experience this. The lobby was nice and the staff was friendly but that's about it. The rooms were extremely outdated and dirty. The bathroom was not clean and there were blood stains on the sheets - this is not something I experience when staying at other Marriotts. The TV in the room looked like it was 15 years old. There was also a problem with their heating and cooling; our room was 78 degrees when we arrived. We turned the air all the way down and nothing happened. We asked the front desk what to do and they told us the building was old and to turn off the air and open the balcony door. The balcony door only opened 4 inches because of a lock that was placed on it. The parking deck did not feel safe at all. We were really worried someone was going to break into our car. There was graffiti in the garage elevator and plenty of signs about the Marriott not being responsible for possessions stolen from cars. This Marriott is in desperate need of a renovation. If we are ever in this area again we will definitely not stay here. read more

I grew up in WV and had always heard that the Marriot Town Center was a high class hotel. However, my opinion has greatly digressed after staying there last weekend. Pros: clean premises very clean laundry - my husband was very impressed with how clean smelling with no chlorine scent the towels had! very cordial, considerate and friendly staff! The pool was very inviting! Cons: the premises were very worn. There was holes in the plaster in the pool room and banisters that were worn to bare wood. The TV was very small compared to similar establishments the breakfast buffet was laughable. Not any better than a 2 star Sleep Inn; in fact the buffet breakfast I had at the Sleep Inn in Summersville was WAY better! No biscuits or gravy, overly dry bread, dried out bacon. Decent fruit bar but that was about it. While the pool itself was very inviting, the room temperature and the water temperature were too cold. I had to leave the room very quickly because my muscles were tensing up because of the cold. But the biggest con of all? This place charges for everything that all their competitors give you for free! Want wifi? you pay for it. Want parking? You pay for it. Want breakfast? You pay $14 a person for a breakfast no better than what you get at all the competitors. Over all, while I appreciate the very kind staff, I will not be staying here again. So, the hotel is nice, the staff is efficient and were friendly upon check-in. However, they set their AC at superwarm and there's NOTHING that you can do even if you ask for help. The fan doesn't run - high is the same as off... and you can move the temperature lower to (in theory) cool the room but IT DOES NOTHING. I booked a room October 6, 2019 while traveling through the mountains. I couldn't drive my uhaul anymore at night. I called this hotel to cancel my room and stay in Princeton WV instead. I spoke to the front desk and they said I can cancel my room. I was shocked when I found out they charge my credit card. The front staff were friendly, but no information about amenities etc were given - just the key. The bathroom ceiling is claustrophobic low, plastic shower curtain, no recycling bin, and basically 1 tiny garbage can for the room. Old TV and very small, some channels don't have sound. The internet is really spotty, which was an issue for me on a business trip. The city itself is clearly suffering and rundown, which is sad. First time staying at the Marriott Town Center: The Good: Exceptionally nice hotel. My room was very nice & clean. Extremely comfortable bed, cool air (not cold), & hot shower. The Not-So-Good: No fridge, microwave, or safe. The Ugly: Get ready to be nickel & dimed for everything. Parking is $15, wifi is $10, breakfast buffet is $12/$18 (wk/wkend). Overall I would strongly suggest not staying here. The quality does not match the expense. The place clearly tries to cut corners and it shows. The beds are oddly uncomfortable despite appearing luxurious on the surface. The AC is incredibly loud in the room yet it's stifling if you opt to turn it off. It was a restless night all the nights I stayed for a conference. Good luck finding a garbage can anywhere but the rooms. There appears to be one public bathroom in the hotel - near the elevators on the second floor. The drop off area is small and seems to have the Marriott vehicles taking up all the space. It's the 21st century yet they charge for Internet. They also charge a fortune for parking. Since my grandmother told me you should always say something nice, I'll say this: the toilet paper was fantastic - soft yet strong. Hard pass if you come to Charleston WV. read more
