You know it will be a magical experience when you are greeted in the yard by colorful butterflies, dancing in a beautiful garden, before you even ringing the doorbell. This gorgeous home is located in the historic district of downtown Charleston, a short stroll away from the capital. It is nicely tucked into the neighborhood, making it almost indistinguishable from the other residential homes. I immediately liked the feeling of experiencing Charleston as if I were a resident, rather than a tourist. I'm fairly good at researching new communities and establishing an interesting list of areas to explore; however, I met my match in Lisa, the Inn keeper, who is hands down the most phenomenal hostess and guide I've met at the many B&B's in which we've stayed during our cross country travels. Our stay would have rated 5-stars just for the experience of meeting Lisa, who took the time to tell us stories about West Virginia, the local community, her experience growing up in the area, and insider tips on places to see on foot. The home was magnificent in its historical details and charming decor. We could have spent our 2-night, 3-day stay simply exploring this home and surrounding neighborhood. Our room, the Rose room, was visually charming and well appointed. We chose the room to experience the claw foot bathtub, which doubled as a draw-curtain shower. The bathroom was privately located in the room. While interesting and charming, the room was not necessarily comfortable or easy to negotiate for seniors. My husband had difficulty getting in and out of bed as it was flush with the wall on his side. The bathroom sink and toilet were cleverly connected to the room with steps and a narrow passage, which was tricky to navigate when well let, let alone at night with dim lighting. Could definitely be a falling hazard for some. The bath was attractive and Lisa provided handmade bath salts, but the tub was not long enough for a taller person, and showering was tricky. Breakfasts were a memorable dining experience. Lisa brought home local and seasonal ingredients from the Farmers Market, and prepared delicious and healthy entrees that were served with attention to visual artistry. The other guests who dined with us were longtime friends who meet in Charleston yearly at Lisa's home to nurture their friendship. It was a joy to share time with such happy, gracious people, one of the top reasons why we enjoy B&B's so much. Lisa also made delicious baked items every afternoon and had an assortment of hot and cold drinks available throughout the day. So in addition to being a most gracious and attentive hostess, Lisa is also a remarkable cook and baker. Just Wow! We explored Charleston on foot, from the capital to the Farmers Market, through the historic district to the Downtown businesses and along the waterfront. We will definitely return to enjoy this B&B, Lisa's company, and local hiking trails. read more

The Brass Pineapple is truly a gem of Charleston WV. My wife and I stayed here for two nights. The experience was beyond great. Every inch of the place is clean and tidy. The owner takes all the necessary Covid precautions. The rooms are beautiful and spotless. This beautiful house has been completely restored and modernized. This bed and breakfast is one of those homes you see while walking down a sidewalk and say to yourself "Wow I bet that place is beautiful inside". The home is full of beautiful woodwork, plaster, antiques, and leaded stained glass windows. There are plenty of electrical outlets and lighting in every room. The water pressure in the bathroom is great. There is plenty of hot water, you will not run out. The water is also ran through a whole house filtration system. I was able to drink the cold water from the tap. It tasted great, and I normally drink RO water. The Brass Pineapple is one block from the capital building. There is a trolley that runs a loop from the capital area to downtown Charleston that runs multiple times throughout the day. My wife and I decided to walk to downtown each day. It is a safe half hour walk day or night. Lisa, the owner and manager, is a wonderful soul. She bends over backwards to make sure your comfortable and happy. Each morning she makes a very tasty and wholesome breakfast with fine ingredients and locally sourced items. Lisa is very knowledgeable about the area and can give you a few pointers on what to do in town. We sat and talked to Lisa during our stay and got to know her a little bit. My wife and I got the chance to discover quite an astonishing person with a respectful story. You will never get this type of experience at a chain. We highly recommend staying at the Brass Pineapple. read more

Mae West famously said "Too much of a good thing can be WONDERFUL!" My stay here was so good that almost describes it! Innkeeper and chef Lisa couldn't be more accommodating and cordial, and my room (the designated pet-friendly one on the first floor) was most comfortable and convenient. I needed a little more workspace so she happily removed some of the extra pillows, blankets and such, and there was floor room for two small dog beds and dishes. Call them directly if you need pet accommodations just to be sure their situation will work for you at the time of your visit. All the other guest rooms are upstairs one or two flights, and the historic property doesn't have a lift, just FYI. But they are beautiful and so comfortable, with private baths, lux towels and even ironed sheets. The common areas are decorated with vintage furniture and objects, and there's usually a specially baked snack and coffee on offer just about any time. And that amazing Breakfast ... I'm not usually a breakfast person, but this is so good I didn't skip a one! Most is locally sourced or organic, and is prepared especially for you to accommodate your preferences, not on a buffet or steam table. I was there for almost a week, and was actually sorry to have to go back to NYC. Lots of other guests came through while I was there and everyone seemed delighted with their visit. All varieties of couples and families are welcome. Lisa and Greg have installed a new high volume filtered air system as part of their Covid protocol, and ask that guests observe whatever mask requirement the State of WV might have in place at the time. The house has private parking and is on a charming historic street, but just a couple of blocks from the main Charleston Interstate exit. There are plenty of dinner options nearby and you will get a list and recommendations from your hosts. read more

A most excellent stay. We arrived around 6:00 pm and Lisa, the innkeeper, greeted us warmly, introduced us to her friend, showed us to our very nice room, and recommended a great restaurant in walking distance for dinner. The room was very comfortable, close quarters because the house is over 100 years old but very cozy. Reasonably roomy shower with awesome water pressure. Wifi is great, my only suggestion here is to upgrade the TV to a modern HD flat panel. Coffee and tea as well as snacks were available after dinner. Lisa also supplied a bucket of ice so I could enjoy a glass or two of bourbon. We were headed home after touring Kentucky distilleries. Had a great night's sleep and then a most excellent breakfast: homemade granola parfait, bacon, biscuits, omelette, and more. Very good coffee. All of it prepared by Lisa with local ingredients. And, off street parking. I'd score Brass Pineapple 5 stars with an HD TV in my room. But I would return without a TV upgrade. Well done, Lisa! read more

This was our first stay at the Brass Pineapple and we were very happy with the experience. We showed up a few hours early but Lisa graciously welcomed us, gave us a tour, and showed us up to our rooms. Afternoon tea was yummy with homemade pimento cheese and egg salad sandwiches, fresh veggies with homemade dip, and sweets. Her tea selection was incredible! Coffee is provided as well with a host of fun organic sweeteners and creamers. The jasmine tea was our favorite. I would probably pass on the wine. We enjoyed getting to know Lisa and Greg, both of whom have interesting lives and stories. It was neat learning about the house's history and also about the surrounding area. They gave us solid recommendations about where to have dinner and we had a fabulous meal at Pies and Pints - will definitely go back for their incredible pizza! The house is full of antiques and well kept. The surrounding neighborhood is cute and right down the street is the State Capitol Building which was beautifully lit at night. It is also a short walk from the river. All in all, a nice area and easy to navigate. I stayed in the Capitol Queen Room and would be happy to stay there again. Plenty of space, comfy bed, clean sheets. The shared bathroom was very clean and well stocked with amenities. Breakfast was great with lots of options for juices, coffee, tea, milk, etc. We had quiche, local sausage patties, breakfast potatoes, and a savory bread pudding. It would have been nice to have something sweet with the meal, maybe in place of the bread pudding, but not a big deal. Everything was delicious and I enjoyed Lisa's use of avocado. We have stayed in Charleston many times before, but never had an experience that came close to this one. I felt like I was seeing a completely different side of Charleston. What a wonderful find! It is a true bed and breakfast in every sense of the word. Early 1900s house impeccably decorated on a quiet street near the capital building in Charleston, WV. Hospitality +++ from Lisa, the owner (even when we weren't able to arrive until nearly 7:30pm). She showed us where to find cake, iced tea and other hospitality items in the kitchen and dining area. We walked to a cute restaurant she recommended (I believe it was called the Blue Grass Cafe) and had a wonderful dinner with a bottle of wine, an a huge piece of yummy tiramisu for dessert. Came back and sat on the front porch before retiring for the evening to the "Grandmother's" room, located on the 3rd floor. They have wi-fi available throughout the building, though with our short stay, we didn't bother turning on our laptop. Wonderfully comfortable king size bed. Chocolates on the nightstand. Breakfast can be any time up until 8:30am (which is early for us, but we know that there have to be parameters set, or an innkeeper would never get things ready for the next guests). It was definitely worth rising early, as Lisa is a gourmet cook and sets a beautiful table. Come to find out she purchases all of her groceries from local vendors. She took plenty of time to chat with us. We are already thinking of who of our family members would enjoy a stay at the Brass Pineapple. read more

This was our find of the century. We have stayed at the Brass Pineapple on two occassions and our currently planning our third. Lisa,Marcia, and Kim are the most generous women I have ever met. Marcia's breakfasts are the best and my husband (a non breakfast eater) would eat every morning. During our last stay I became ill and Lisa went out of her way to make sure i was okay and even watched the children so my husband could get me up to our room. They have become like family friends to all of us and my daughter asks all the time when we are going back. The home is absolutely beautiful and taken care of. We have stayed in a few different rooms and all are just as nice and comfortable. I recommend this to anyone who is in the Charleston, WV area to stay or who is looking for a nice little getaway. read more
