I was at the Greenbrier mall today and saw the sign advertising a Chicken Philly steak and fries for 6.99 and it looked delicious. I ordered one and upon sitting down and looking at my sandwich, all I saw on it was lettuce, tomato and mayo, and the chicken didn't even cover the bun. I went up to the counter and said I didn't get mushroom, onion or green pepper, and was told that it in mixed up in the meat. I sat back down and examined the chicken and saw no evidence of the ,above, nor did I taste any.The picture showed a layer of mushrooms, as well as visbile green pepper and onion, so this is false advestment and completely misleading. They should be shut down or serve sandwiches like the one advertised. Would not recommend. read more

Its Friday evening, A challenging week including a working 10 hr days, the Tropical storm, power loss and a minor surgery. I was craving a Philly Cheesesteak. I called Philly Cheesesteak and subs on Tidewater Dr. They closed at 5, This was 5 30. Welp, Gourmet Burgers and subs in Portsmouth, High street was really kinda far since it was in the middle of yet ANOTHER rain storm. 2 more choices.. Mr Jim's in Chesapeake whish is just as close as Charley's at Greenbriar mall. Either way I'm sad now and still hungry. I called Mr Jims to order after checking their online menu, to find that their grill is either down but Im informed that they are not grilling. I just get even more sadder and want a nice drink now with at least 70 proof. So lastly Charley's online order was very simplistic. Took all of 7 minutes to order and after paying apparently ready in 7 minutes. As we rush off to the mall takes 9 minutes, no parking, wayyyyy to many teenagers hanging outside and in the way. 6 feet distance as i remind them in my most authoritative mom voice. I just get looks ...like I'm wrong, but i really really really don't care. Inside the mall some shoppers bustle from store to store as its the beginning of the Tax Free weekend. Waiting just a few minutes for the order as hubby got the servers attention. Were home inhaling our food, bread is super soft, toasted first. No mayo on any sub. I had a feeling the mayo was not kept cold and desire not to get sick from some food bourne bacteria on this evening. We were all happy with our meals, lots of meat, cheese, grilled onions and grilled peppers. Mushrooms were absent from mine. I did not see any extra cheese. Fries are nice and natural cut. This was my first time ordering from Charley's and I am so glad I did... I had the turkey cheddar sub minus the cheddar, and bacon and cheddar fries, anyhoo it was the best sub ever.... it was made to perfection, the mayo was just the way I like it, the lettuce, tomatoes just right, seasoned turkey just right. Pretty good grub, albeit on the pricey side for what you get. Made to order cooks prepare your sub on a griddle right in front of you. Remember Steak-uhms from back in the day? You know, the thinly sliced, flash-frozen meat discs separated with same-shaped pieces of parchment paper? Yeah, those. Well, that's basically what Charley's is cookin' up for you. And honestly, it's alright. Add some mayo, lettuce and tomato and you'll be none the wiser. Oh yeah, they cook that stuff up pretty fast too. Today I received a call from the Manager of the Greenbrier restaurant. She asked me for my version of what happened and when she narrated everything that happened, she only offered me a sandwich. Aren't you ashamed? let me guide you Here are two serious events. You trick me with an ad for a chicken-packed sandwich, you kid me by giving me a chicken-less sandwich. False advertising. I approach the employee respectfully and the only thing I receive is a mockery? The employee disrespected me by laughing for more than ten minutes in my face. I asked her to stop laughing and she continued laughing with another employee without giving me options and disrespecting me in front of other clients and my children and you want me to accept a miserable sandwich???? At least, I asked for a full refund of my order and you solve it with another fake sandwich???. I will never eat again where they disrespect me and try to make fun of me. Would you come back ???? This Charley's location(Greenbrier) is a A LOT better than the Lynnhaven location. There were several employees all working to push out the product while one was at cash register. There was a lot more meat in the subs and flavorful. Not bland. I love how one can add as many toppings as you want. The bread was soft and warm. The fries were hot & to-go came in a nice sturdy box. I recommended periodic cleaning of the condiment area. Sticky stuff and ketchup all over the place. Other than that, sandwich and service were a thumbs up. read more

Not understanding why this place has a 5-star rating. The Philly steaks here are just... okay. I was pretty disappointed with the sad layer of lettuce and tomato that was placed in my sandwich. Where were the onions? The mushrooms?! The cheese fries were also pretty inedible. Somebody was a little too heavy handed with the salt shaker. This place in the Food court of Greenbrier mall is under new management and they are WONDERFUL! The food is delicious, the staff very pleasant and the ingredients are really fresh. We have lived in this area since 2003 and we tried this a few times and stopped because it was previously overpriced for what you got. I never really thought I would review a place in he mall to eat. I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat and nothing really looked good so I decided to accept the bite that Charley's offered me. It was amazing so I went ahead and ordered a small chicken philly. It comes with onions, green peppers, mushrooms, American white cheese, and all-white meat chicken. The small sandwich alone was $4.89 or you can get a deal with the sandwich and fries for $4.99 which is what I did. It was awesome and I will definitely go back. read more

Super yummy. I got it, it is in the food court at the mall. However, the staff was quick and friendly and the sandwich was really delicious. The chicken philly sandwich is what I had, and it normally comes with onions, peppers, mushrooms, and cheese. I didn't have the mushrooms because they are created by the devil. Stopped by this place today, it is in the food court of Greenbrier mall. I had no intentions of going there but they were passing out samples of their chicken Philly and I decided to get one. I had the California chicken Philly. The bun was toasted, it had ranch on it, the vegetables were really fresh, and it came with fries. The fries are really good and tastes like fresh potatoes They also have this season that you could sprinkle on the fries at the counter that made them even better. I had a lemonade peach tea which was delicious, and even had small pieces of peach floating in and it. The customer service was great and it was reasonably priced. read more

While the sandwiches here are decent I would not compare it at all to an authentic Philly. This is one of those places you go to get a cheese-steak that is better than subway, but nowhere near "the real thing". The grilled subs at Charley's are great. It's in the mall do it is walk up/counter service. I got the teriyaki chicken sub with fries and a drink. If you get the fries, you definitely have to try the season salt they have. The reason for the 4 stars is that the customer service was bland. The employees seemed like they wanted to be anywhere but here. Hardly said one word to me. A shame. read more
