I usually love all pizza & maybe it was just an off night for this place but it was not what the reviews stated. 1st - placed order at 6:01 and finally got the delivery at 7:13 - I know it was dinner rush but over an hour for a delivery of 1 pizza & cheese bread only 2 blocks away is ridiculous. 2nd - I did like the cheesy garlic bread was flavorful and made with real chopped garlic cloves but the marinara was watery & might have come from a can. Just didn't pair well Finally the pizza itself - I know some of you are gonna say it's because I ordered pineapple on my pizza but the online menu said "best seller" so I tried it. The sauce is extremely bland & just had no taste or flavor. There are corp pizza places with better tasting sauce. On top of all this, the cost was $36 for one 16" pizza, cheese bread & a can drink - well over priced for the value of food I always like to give 2nd chances so I may try them again if I'm in the area but I'm also sure there's other local spots that might have better consistent good food for the price. read more

Not fancy, just a simple NY style pizza spot in Chesapeake. I got the pizza special which is 2 slices of pizza and a fountain drink for $10.65. Hits the spot and not very pricy. It seems popular for lunch as three other people came in while I was waiting for the pizza to come out. After a complete failed attempt at pizza that looks good but was horrible, Yiannis in Great Bridge, I didn't want to take the chance. Tonight, a Friday during the Lenten Holy season, I observe not eating meat. I had grilled salmon for lunch, so the plain slices are for me. So yesss this pizza is the absolute BEST NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA, I have had living here in VA. The very first bite took me back home to Long Island Ginos pizzeria. It starts with the "fold" of the slice! Then the slight cheese pull removing it from the box! Greasy just a bit, but WHOA. this is real "muzzarel"! . Then the first bite. The taste of the oven baking on the bottom of the crust. How the sauce is flavored and not over used under the real mozzarella cheese! The thin crust bought a tear to my eye. The chew so authentic. I placed an order 10/31/2025, my order was over $80 plus I gave a tip. I got the 24in plus a large pizza, garlic nots, and 20 bone in wings. The food was horrible. The garlic bread bounced the pizza was really thick and nasty the chicken tasted like wood. I'm so freaking angry. The government has shut down and I was trying to treat my family and it was a bust. It's been a while since my last review of Sal's New York Pizza just off of Battlefield Boulevard in the heart of Chesapeake. I stopped by recently for lunch and I was so impressed with the pizza and friendly staff that I feel the need to Yelp about my experience. This place smells like a classic pizza joint, in the very best sense of the word. If you're not hungry when you walk in, that will soon change once you get a whiff of the pizza cooking in the oven. It's a truly magical experience. I only got a slice of pepperoni and a drink but WOW, what a slice it was! Their slices are of a generous size but not only that they are cooked to perfection. The outside is crispy, crunchy and delicious. The crust is light and airy, just like it's supposed to be for any NY style pizza. The only decent pizza for miles, and I've tried them all. This is real NYC pizza, which is truly the best there is unless you are in Sicily. Friday working lunch during Covid19 required reinforcements: pizza! Ordered easily and paid online with promise to receive in 90min, say whaaat? Took over 110 minutes to arrive but we were thankful for their delivery option in the pandemic's wake. Pizzas were all prepared correctly. Heat hot, flavorful, and in a very good NY style texture (not too soggy, not over done) with splendid crust to sauce to cheese balance. Toppings were a tad sparse compared to other parlors in the area. 4 pies easily fed 10 people with bonus slices to share with my fam. To the Vash go the spoils! Overall, it's a solid 4/5 though I will say it impacted my GI system in the evening on both days I ate it. read more

How have I not been here before? Several coworkers of mine decided to try this place out and I'm glad we did! I called on a Thursday afternoon and ordered one large cheese pizza, 2 steak and cheese subs, an order of French fries & 3 Pepsi's. The lady who took my order on the phone was super nice. The pizza was delicious! It certainly was New York style; thin and large! The steak subs were amazing! The bread was fresh made and huge. It had so much onion and mushroom with the perfect amount of cheese. My coworker didn't care for the fried much. She said that it was very soggy. I have had their pizza in the past and found it wonderful. Last night we ordered from the dinner menu as we did last week. Their dinners are awesome with a good amount for the price. Last week I ordered the Eggplant Parmigiana and my wife had the Chicken Alfredo, both very good. I had a taste of my wife's Chicken Alfredo and I liked it a bit more than my dish, not that mine was bad, it was the sauce that got me. Because we loved it so much that yesterday we both ordered it again. Yum, yum, yum! By the way the dinners come with a hardy side salad and garlic bread. Have tried this place a few times for carryout. The orders have been ready at the time quoted. We have tried the Margherita pizza, mushroom pizza, pepperoni pizza bbq pizza and calazones. Only thing i didn't like was pizza by the slice. Their fresh pizza is so outstanding the pre-made slices aren't as good. This has become out go to carry out place. read more

Sal's on North Battlefield has moved into what used to be the Pizza Vera location in Woodford Square Shopping Center across from the Chesapeake Hospital. After years of going to the old place I have to say it's great to have a pizza place in this location again. If memory serves me right they just opened the doors about 4 maybe 5 weeks ago. They gutted the old place and built in a completely new modern kitchen and the dining room is still small and located in the front. It does seem a bit roomer now than previously. The pizza is delicious with large NY Style slices and they'll put anything you want on them. The lunch special is the best. 2 slices with 1 topping and a bottomless fountain soda for $5. That includes the tax. There is also some variations on the lunch special as well, for example you can get one slice and a salad for the same price. We've been there about once a week since they opened and are definitely fans. Check them out! read more

Best pizza around. Top 3 for sure! I go a few times a month just to get a slice of cheese pizza or pepperoni. If I'm feeling healthy I'll get the grilled chicken salad which is good but then I'll regret not getting pizza. The slices are huge so one slice may work for most. Just a crappy experience all around. Ordered delivery at 7:30 on a Tuesday evening. Waited an hour and some change before calling to see what was taking so long. Guy on the phone had no idea what was going on. He said he'd get in touch with the delivery driver and give us a call back. Never got a call back so we waited a while later and decided to call back. He said he couldn't do anything about our order and said he couldn't remake the food either because his boss would "chew him out". Basically saying if it doesn't show up then oh well. We finally got the food at 9pm. But half of the order was missing. Obviously these people do not care about customer service. Very frustrating to say the least. read more

Pizza is one of the best in the area if you like NY style pizza. Dough is thin and ingredients are fresh.

Gave them a try today with pepperoni pizza and cheesesteak, overall it was mediocre and quite salty. Crust was ok but cheese was not high quality. Service was nice. Cheesesteak was salty and didn't have enough beefy flavor, felt like low quality meat. Wished I could give more stars but compared to Atlas pizza nearby, this place fell short. read more

Since the pandemic, our experience with dinner by delivery from various Chesapeake restaurants have been hit or miss. We searched online and came across their menu. Why did we wait so long to order from this restaurant? All we can say is...WOW!! We ordered a deluxe calzone, a Caesar salad, hot wings, and an 18" pepperoni pizza. The calzone was baked perfectly and stuffed to the gills with all the fixings. My Caesar salad was crisp and cold. The wings were fried perfectly with just the right amount of sauce. The pizza had that "true New York style" crust with obvious homemade sauce. We are so lucky to have Sals Pizza NY Style around the corner from our house. This is a restaurant that truly cares about the quality of their food and the portion size....you won't be disappointed! Thanks so much! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. We ordered a pizza at 7:35pm. At 8:33pm we get a call that they are backed up. Which we figured because it was raining. Not to mention the girl that was answering calls stated "they got me fckd up I don't even work here." Then 9:30 comes, we call back and the girl that answered the phone was rude. She said the delivery girl was out delivering the pizzas. At this point we are sure the pizza is cold. It is now 10:05. Sadly I cannot recommend Sals after our experience tonight. We ordered delivery after seeing decent reviews and the order took well over an our to arrive with only a 1 mile delivery distance. We're staying at a hotel and after the driver dropped the food we realized there wasn't any silverware or napkins. Essentially we were left without being able to eat our food if it weren't for the kind front desk staff helping out. We called the driver immediately and he said he doesn't have silverware, he just drops the food where they tell him to. The salads were all barely edible. Cold chicken, low quality dressings, wilted onions. Yuck. The hot wings were OK but had a strange look to the inside, hoping I don't get sick! I had never tried Sals until tonight and I have to say that I will never order pizza from anyplace other than Sals. I'm ordered a 12" cheese pizza. What sets Sals apart is the thin crust and pizza sauce. If you love garlic you will love this sauce. read more

This review is strictly based on customer service. I called this order in tonight for my family. The lady on the phone told me 30-35 minutes. We called at 5:10pm. We thought it was perfect. I had to call again at 6pm wondering where my pizza was. The same lady answered and said that they don't tell anyone less than an hour. We called at 6:30pm to cancel the order. Tired of waiting, we called dominos. Sals pizza is fantastic, but it's not worth the guessing game when everyone is starving. We really would have appreciated the honesty. There are many sals in Hampton Roads many have different options and different style of food but this sals is absolutely amazing I have tried 3/4 of everything on there menu and so far I haven't found anything I wasn't 100% satisfied with. Tonight I orderd the hot pizza sub parmigiana (pepperoni,pizza sauce and cheese toasted in a 12in hoagie) I added onions and extra cheese and all that comes to mind is WOW!!! it was amazing and for only 6.99 plus tax I walked away happy and full. If you like spicy go with there hot buffalo wings also have BBQ and mild. This location has an open kitchen with plenty of dining space. This sals is the cleanest with the most friendly staff. Can't beat the pizza by the slice and if you buy 2 you get a free fountain drink,what a deal.
