Mr. Food Mart is your typical neighborhood corner store but on steroids. I'm not sure how long they've been in business but I moved to the area in 2002 and they were already a neighborhood fixture. They offer basic grocery items like milk, bread, canned and dry goods, snacks, sodas, beer, etc... You can also find basic health and first aid items, very basic automotive items, tobacco products, etc... Of course they sell all the Virginia lottery tickets and a good variety of scratch-off lottery games as well. The aisles are narrow and crowded and the whole place could probably benefit from a deep cleaning and some updating. So far I've described your average neighborhood corner store but Mr. Food Mart is so much more. You can pay your utility or cell phone bill here, you can cash a check or buy a money order. You can pick up a bag of ice or exchange the propane tank for your gas grill then pump your tire full of air. They also have a deli counter where you can purchase deli meats and cheeses by weight and have them sliced to your preference. Then there's the food. They have a full line of delicious cold and hot subs as well some pretty decent pizza by the slice or get the whole pie. There are no tables or chairs inside or out so it's strictly takeout. To place your order just come on in or call ahead to have it ready when you get there. Hot dogs, hot sausage, bbq - you can get it here and it's pretty darn good. They have a nice commercial pizza oven and they know how to use it. Honestly, their subs are pretty amazing. Try the Club or Fat Boy or or Italian subs. Personally, my favorite is the Philly Cheesesteak. There's plenty of juicy and tender meat seasoned just right on a beautifully toasted roll. It really is outstanding. All their subs come ATW (all the way) with lettuce, tomato, mayo and oil & vinegar. They even put out a pretty tasty gyro. It's loaded with tender seasoned meat and really delicious. The parking lot is mostly adequate but can get pretty crowded, fortunately there are nearby businesses with additional parking so it's never really an issue. Be aware this is a neighborhood store so small groups of people do sometimes congregate outside in front of the store to hang out for a few minutes but it's never a problem. I'm glad to have Mr. Food Mart in the neighborhood, it's a solid choice to pick up some essentials or grab a quick meal. read more

Service by the two females at the counter was amazing. I ordered a ham sub for my daughter and a cheesesteak for myself. While the quality of steak was fine I think cross contamination happened somewhere because it tasted like tuna fish. While it was edible the tuna taste kept throwing me off. I think I will stick to the day shift I've never had issues with the food during day shift their pizza is delicious and subs are always on point. But this is the 3rd time that I came at night and neither time was ok food wise. But tbh it was the same cook that looked like he'd rather be anyway else. read more

Growing up up north I'm used to the local sandwich shop being a hub of the neighborhood. The Italian sub all the way was my choice sub...so big it was two meals. Tons of meat and cheese toasted. This is a hidden gem of corner store. Great sandwiches and hot dogs, they even serve whole pizzas and by the slice! I love the "godfather" sandwich with salami and pepperoni. Nice selection of deli meat and cheese on hand for sell by the pound or right onto your sandwich! Plus all of your corner store needs. read more

I heard about this place and passed by it a few dozen times but didn't bother to go since the area wasn't the best but definitely don't judge a book by its cover here. I ordered a philly cheese steak all the way with provolone and it was damn good! The price was very very reasonable and service was quick. It's what some might consider a "hood spot" but I found the experience pretty good, clean inside and friendly employees. For the price, I'd stop by here over most mainstream places for a philly cheese steak or other sub shops any day of the week. The bread was soft and tasty and the sandwich itself had good flavor all throughout. They also have a really cheap combo deal and plenty of drink, chips and snack choices to go with the subs. I did forget to mention that they also make fresh pizza and sell by the slice and pie too. I was looking at getting a slice but if the sub I bought was good, I planned to go back. I was doing work in the area with a friend of mine who told me we needed to stop here and get subs. He was right, and if you haven't tried this place you do too. The sandwiches are unbelievable. $10 even for an Arizona and a cold Italian, which was amazing. I wanted to save half the sub but it was so good I couldn't stop eating. I went to this place expecting great hole in the wall philly steak and cheese with the greasy cheese paper and sizzling onions. The reviews definitely led me to believe that this place was going to be exactly what I was looking for . I'm sad to say that it was the most unseasoned and unappetizing philly steak I've ever had.
