Let's start here. Noone was at the front counter to greet you!!! A young man came out of the restroom and headed behind the counter. He did not acknowledge us whatsoever!!! Finally a few minutes later a young lady with a headset came to take our order. We were making decisions and she was not very helpful. She described the large Cheesesteak that we would be getting. There was no lettuce, no tomato, no mushroom and no mayonnaise. The sandwich was sparsely covered in meat, cheese, onion and green pepper. It was very dry! Boneless wings were hard as a rock, but they threw in extra. I was not impressed. Fries with bacon were good. The dining area was a wreck! We had two original Philly steaks. They were dry, overly salty and lacked flavor. We got regular onion on one and extra on the other and couldn't see a difference. New location opened in Clearwater on gulf to bay between us19 and belcher. I was excited to have a Philly cheesesteak place to break up the monotony of hamburgers and chicken. I finally stopped today when I was alone and nobody else could have an opinion where to go Lol I have to say that I'm a little bit underwhelmed and disappointed. I got the SMALL traditional Philly cheesesteak which still set me back $8 just for the sandwich which based on what I got I felt is a little overpriced. The flavor was ok but I expected better from a place that specializes in these sandwiches. Needed more mayo and fresh bread. Honestly, it wasn't any better than what I've had at Subway and that's pretty bad. I also have to question anybody who owns a cheesesteak place and tries to put lettuce, pickles and tomato on a traditional Philly cheesesteak. Just No! Those things don't belong! I struggled with this rating , the food was great, hot fresh and delicious, the wings were cooked perfectly. The young lady who took our order was nice and patient as it was our first time at this restaurant. The young man came back and checked on us after serving us our food. The establishment was clean. My complaint are two very minor ones that either the owner or manager would need to correct... which is why I changed my rating from a 1 star to 4.... 1. The place is freezing, the thermostat is set to 58 which shouldn't be allowed, the employees were in sweaters and you could tell they were cold. Although they didn't complain my feet were so cold they were almost numb..It was 56 degrees outside and warmer to sit outside with the sun then inside. This in its own, would detour people, the lobby should be comfortable and welcoming. 2. No paper towels in the bathrooms? Super odd. It's the small things that add up to the big picture. It has real fruit in it, and contains the perfect amount of sweet to tart! Now let's talk about how unique this Charley's location is to me- I had NEVER seen a stand-alone Charley's (with a drive thru) before in my entire life. We used the Drive thru to order our food. It took a few minutes to get through the drive thru, but the wait was worth it. Everything on the easy to read menu is freshly prepared. I ordered the Philly steak sandwich with out the mushrooms, and chili cheese fries with bacon. It was delicious. Don't wait to take them home, eat it before you leave the parking lot. Bottom Line on Top: A really good effort, with great fries. Okay, first to the haters: 1) Boneless wings are not a thing. They're **chicken nuggets**, and they are going to be dry and boring regardless of which sauce you toss them in. Order real food. 2) These are not "authentic" and that's a good thing; cheesesteaks in Philly are just plain bad. 3) It costs more because you get a LOT more food than for the same price elsewhere. Charley's is "not bad". It's also not great. You get good value and the fries (like at most factory cheesesteak places) are wonderful. The food is usually cooked well, and usually correct. I can't give four or five stars for "usually" though. The steaks do tend to be dryer than a lot of factory cheesesteak places, which is odd considering how they're cooked. Overall, it's a okay meal that you'll enjoy and forget about a few minutes later. The people are nice and as fast as can be expected, which is rare right now. A few pointers: When serving something messy like cheesesteaks in a drive-thru, napkins **are not optional**. My family is a frequent customer at this establishment, especially due to its close location. However, from the many times we have visited, the order accuracy is very low. Many times we have gotten our meal and were often missing fries or had the sandwich done incorrectly. Of course, when mentioned, the management was more than happy to fix our orders and re-do the food, but it is just something to be aware of - always check to make sure you got everything correctly before leaving :) Otherwise, overall, a very clean and efficient place. Usually they are pretty quick with drive through orders. The food is more pricey than normal Charley's (such as at the Westfield Mall) but that could have to be with location as well. However, it is worth it. I usually get the teriyaki chicken, and the food is usually very tasty and well done (ask for the fries fresh)! I'm from Philly, and I've eaten literally hundreds of Philly cheesesteaks at both the best and not-so-good steak shops. I also worked in a pizza and cheesesteak place for over a year. I can assure you - Charley's sandwiches are far from authentic! Contrary to what one reviewer pointed out, the meat does appears to be thin sliced rib eye. But the portions are much smaller than one would get at any decent Philly steak shop. I estimate two oz of meat on the small, four oz of meat on a medium, and six oz on the large. By comparison, my favorite steak shop just outside Philly puts about 12 oz of meat on their large (12") sandwich. That's twice as much! Add one or two ounces of cheese to the Charley's (my shop puts about 4), and you'll understand why they put all those veggies on their sandwiches (I'm not gonna dignify them by calling their sandwiches "cheesesteaks"). And no steak shop in Philly (that I am aware of) puts mushrooms and green peppers on their cheesesteaks - unless the customer orders it that way! Same goes for lettuce, tomato, and pickles - that's a cheesesteak hoagie, folks! When you see how little meat there is on a Charley's, you'll know why all those veggies are on the sandwich! And NO self-respecting Philly steak shop puts mayo on a cheesesteak! The rolls are not the authentic Amoroso's rolls. Finally, Charlie's uses American cheese - not standard practice in Philly. Exactly which cheese is a question of taste (and some debate) but most real cheesesteak aficionados will opt for provolone. Some like cheese whiz, but I find it too salty. Of course, some will choose American cheese - usually kids. Bottom line is - if you want an authentic Philly cheesesteak, Charley's is not the place to go. There are much better shops around, even in Plant City. One just opened across the street and around the corner from the Publix. I won't promote them here, but I've had their cheeseteaks - and they are more like Jersey than Charley's is like Philly! ;-) Also there's a shop in Brooksville that I hear is the real deal. No consistency in your order. Ordered the same thing the past three times and my order is always different. From the size of the sandwich to the lack of cheese on the fries that I paid for.
