Country Benedict and a side of grits.
    Edward M.

It was my first visit to this local eatery. And despite being warned not to go, I decided to try it for myself. For starters it wasn't as bad as he described to me. The staff was very friendly and I was seated immediately by the greeter. It did take a few minutes to come by for my drink order. It was long enough to be able to study the menu. When she came I asked for a water and coffee. For my breakfast I ordered a Country Benedict with a side of grits. Coffee was good and for a little while I was thinking refills weren't free. Eventually she did come by refill my cup and even topped it off before I was done eating. The Country Benedict...the eggs were poached really well. They sat atop 2 sausage patties and on top of 2 biscuits covered in sausage gravy. I have questions about the sausage gravy. The bits of sausage was square chunks which caused me to think that the sausage gravy came from a can and not made in the kitchen. It lacked a bit of flavor and could have used a bit more seasoning. The place looked to be really clean. And from the looks of it the place has its regular crowd that comes in to hang out, get the local gossip, and eat. The place is decorated modestly and there were several big pictures of food. Kind of reminded me of a lot of small Chinese Take Out places. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as it was described to me. But I will add that I'm willing to try it again, maybe for lunch.

We came by on Valentines and it was busy. We were seated pretty quickly and our waitress Julie was friendly and engaging. We had a Garden omlett and Country fried steak. We enjoyed our coffee and Julie kept it filled. Our breakfast was good and cooked to order. The feel is very casual and local vibe which we enjoyed.

Wooden Spoon offers up traditional diner food that is affordable and tasty. My wife and I ordered lunch here on a weekday via UberEats. My wife and I ordered lunch through UberEats. Two buffalo chicken wraps and a triple decker Reuben. The first thing we noticed is they have a huge menu. There are no shortage of options to choose from for either lunch or dinner. The food came pretty quick. About 40 minutes. We opened up our styrofoam trays and everything looked and smelled good. Everything was still hot thanks to our UberEats driver storing the food in an insulated bag for the 4 mile trip. My triple decker Reuben was filling and tasty. The corned beef was a little tough but had that briny, salty flavor I was looking for. The sauerkraut was good as well. There was no sauce on but instead was served on the side. This turned out to be a good thing. The sandwich was already greasy and messy. The rye bread it was on was fresh and soft and had pockets of grease soaked mushiness that is to be expected. I dipped it in thousand island and finished the entire thing. The fries on the side were excellent and didn't even need ketchup I thought. They were crunchy and had a good flavor to them. For delivery fries, these were probably the best we have had. My wife and sister both got buffalo chicken wraps. They enjoyed them as well. Filling and tasty with the same fries I had. One sad thing was that all our meals should have been served with a pickle spear on the side. None of them had it. We love pickles and definitely were looking forward to those. We also ordered a soda but that was not delivered either. Luckily, UberEats took care of that one and refunded it immediately. All in all, a decent meal for lunch. A little on the heavy side but it was good. I looked forward to dining in here one day and trying out their breakfast or any of their other lunch items.

I was excited to try the wooden spoon Several people recommended them. Well unfortunately it fell short. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict. The food was slow coming out. Sadly the eggs were hard the sauce almost broken.

The service was quick to be seated and even though they are busy for lunch they were quick to take our order and was very nice. I couldnt decide between 2 items and the waitress helped me and boy was she right. The Rueben is one of the best in the area. I don't usually like coleslaw but here it is really good. The kids chicken tenders were huge, my 7 year old said "They are bussin'". (Kids lingo means they are amazing!). My 8year old said the cheeseburger was amazing but to big!! He could only eat 1/2. The restaurant is small but very busy almost all seats full but service is quick and friendly. The music playing was not to loud or overbearing. And was restaurant appropriate for kids and adults. Over all it wqs a very good experience. We will be back as the whole family enjoyed their food and atmosphere

All you can eat fish, potato salad, and coleslaw, takeout.

If you are in the Lakeland area and you are hungry then this should be your first choice. We had "Sean" as our server and he was beyond outstanding. He was very attentive and very friendly and he took time to inform us about the specials, most popular items and was able to make suggestions based on our wants. We started with a dozen grilled oysters, half cajun butter and half garlic butter. They were very delicious. They were tasty, fresh and a nice size. My wife went with the grilled wild caught salmon which was described as the wagyu of the sea. And she said it was the best salmon she has ever had. I went with the pick two combo which included catfish, shrimp and cod. And I know that's three but instead of two pieces of catfish, I got one and two piece pieces of cod. My sides were hush puppies and red beans and rice. Let me tell you first of all it was a lot of food, everything was absolutely delicious. But the red beans and rice were amazing, plenty of flavor. And the sweet tea was excellent. We were to full from dessert but we will try some next time. We also met a manager and the owner and they were both very personable and friendly. They both acted like regular people and they both made us feel welcomed. Lastly we sat outside because we had our service animals with us and they also took very good care of them. They provided cold bowls of water and we order a chicken breast for them. Which they cut up in small pieces and provided them with to go bowls for them to eat out of. We live in Tampa which is about 1 hour away but our experience here was worth the drive. It is in a nice area with shops and stores. Definitely try this business if your in the area

Service was friendly and good. Southern charm feeling. We ordered 3 meals. Sea Bass, Redfish and Pick 2 with fish and shrimp. I had the redfish blackened and it was super flavorful with a kick. The crawfish sauce was excellent with 2 big shrimp on top. Everything was cooked well. The green beans on the side were nice and fresh. Rice was great to get that extra sauce. Wife had the Seabass and it was delicious as well. Great portion with a very tasty chimichurri sauce. I will try that next time as it was a hit. Green beans and potatoes on the side. Kid had the pick 2 and it was also very good. I actually liked the coleslaw. It was not mayo based and had a great taste. I ate it all! To start we had the fried pickles. Huge portion. Pickles were a nice thin slice with a seasoned coating. One of the better fried pickles we have had. Fighting for that last piece. Convenient location in an outdoor mall. Plenty of parking and can take a stroll after eating. Highly recommend this place!

Alright, folks, gather 'round as I, a lifelong Valrico local, spin a heartfelt yarn about Willie's…read moreSeafood at 1912 Main Street, the place that's been the heartbeat of my life since I was a kid. Born and raised right here in Valrico, Florida, I was brought to Willie's by my granddad, who called it his favorite spot in town. It's been a constant through every chapter of my life--birthdays, heartbreaks, and everything in between. This five-star review is a love letter to Willie's, a seafood haven that's served up memories as rich as their fried catfish and kept me comin' back for decades. From the time I could barely see over the table, Granddad would lead me through Willie's doors, his calloused hand in mine, promisin' the best meal in town. The place felt like a second home--still does. The cozy, weathered interior, with its wooden walls covered in fishing nets, old photos of Valrico's early days, and mounted fish, wraps you in a warm hug of nostalgia. The jukebox in the corner hums old country tunes, and the checkered tablecloths remind me of Granddad's stories about fishin' in the Gulf. He'd sit me down, order a basket of fried shrimp and hush puppies, and tell me, "this here's real Florida eatin'." That first bite of crispy, golden shrimp, dipped in tangy cocktail sauce, was like tastin' the ocean itself--fresh, simple, and perfect. Willie's menu is a love song to seafood, and I've loved every note since I was a kid. Their fried catfish, a Granddad favorite, is still the gold standard--flaky, moist, with a cornmeal crust so crisp it crunches like autumn leaves. The all-you-can-eat nights--catfish, shrimp, haddock, and clam strips on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays--are a tradition I've kept alive, especially now with my own kids. The gator bites, spicy and tender, are a thrill I discovered as a teenager, sneakin' bites off Granddad's plate. Their blackened mahi-mahi, served with creamy grits, is a nod to Florida's coastal soul, with a spice kick that wakes you right up. Even the sides--coleslaw cool as a summer breeze, hush puppies golden and sweet--feel like they were made with love. And don't get me started on the key lime pie; it's tart, creamy perfection that Granddad always saved room for, claimin' it was "better'n any dessert in Tampa." After he passed, I'd sit at our usual table, order his favorite catfish dinner, and feel him right there with me. Now, I bring my family, watchin' my daughter giggle over her popcorn shrimp, just like I did. The staff, some of whom have been here since I was young, treat you like kin. They'd slip me extra hush puppies as a kid, and now they know my order by heart--fried shrimp, fries, and a sweet tea, just like Granddad's. The place ain't fancy, but that's the charm. It's a family-owned gem, run by folks who've been at it since the '70s, and it shows in every bite. The prices are fair--$15.99 for a catfish filet with sides feels like a steal for the quality. The service is quick, even when the place is packed with locals like me, all drawn by the same comfort and flavor. Sure, some might say it's a bit old-school, but that's what makes it special. It's not tryin' to be a chain or a tourist trap--it's just Willie's, servin' up seafood that tastes like home. I've lived in Valrico my whole life, and Willie's has been there for every milestone--first dates, graduations, even quiet nights when I just needed a taste of the past. It's where I learned to love seafood, where Granddad's stories came alive, and where I still feel him every time I walk in. The food, the warmth, the memories--they're all part of me. Willie's Seafood is a five-star treasure, a place that's fed my body and soul for decades. I'll keep comin' back, bringin' my kids and someday their kids, to keep Granddad's favorite spot alive in our hearts.
