A first-time visit to this local favorite. I was a bit apprehensive about it, and I had two other places in consideration, those being The Brick House and The Wooden Spoon. But I decided to give it a try. So, first impressions are that it has very dated decor, which gives it a quaint country feel and the other being a place that only locals will go because they went to school with the owner 50 years ago. I ordered the Meat Lovers Omelet with a side of grits and tomatoes and a coffee. The coffee was good and hot. And they came by several times to refill it. After a few minutes, my order came out nice and hot. The omelet reminded me a lot of the omelets we'd get in the Army. This omelet was packed with sausage, ham, and bacon. I believe they used cheddar cheese, too. I don't recall a lot of cheese, though. The grits were done right, smooth and creamy. I was impressed with the tomatoes. They actually tasted like they should! I left there satisfied and on the verge of being too full. The feeling lasted well past lunchtime. So the reason for the mediocre score. Well, it wasn't a spectacular meal or experience. I was only 1 of 4 guests eating there. I compare this with other places I've been and it isn't someplace I left thinking "I can't wait to try it again." I will, in fairness, try it again. But I'll probably go to The Brick House or The Wooden Spoon before I'll go back there.

Back in Plant City again, I decided to check another diner off my visit list. Snellgroves is located in downtown and is rather easy to find, plenty of free parking available. I lucked out with a space right in front. They were still serving breakfast when I arrived, and I cannot resist that. It doesn't look like much from the outside, honestly, but it's absolutely cowboy-kitsch on the inside. Like the 1980s trend of copying the 1950s. I loved it. Very homey and comforting. I was told to sit where I wanted, so I chose a booth. The whole place was very clean (including the Cowgirl's bath/Room). Both of the ladies who waited on me were very lovely and pleasant. The coffee was excellent. Yes, I love that fancy stuff, but my heart lies with that wonderful plain old cup of diner coffee. Snellgroves has it. I had two cups. Yum. They have a breakfast menu with all the basics. I chose a bacon & cheese omelette, with hash browns and a biscuit. Breakfast came out quick, hot and fresh. The omelette was perfect. Very little brown on the egg, cooked nicely. Good cheese mixture and nice bacon. Loved the hash browns. Nice crunch but not too over-cooked, just right. The biscuit, super light and fluffy; was split, buttered and grilled. Nice touch. I love diners like this. You expect a certain something and they deliver - and Snellgroves did just that. I hope I can get back here soon.

Not a fan and wouldn't come back. 1. Service- 1/5. The waitress had just walked into her shift and decided to tend to our table all frazzled (assuming she was late) and without knowing any of the specials. After running back and forth a couple times, she finally told us the specials but I'm sure she forgot an item or two. All entrees come with a soup or salad...she just assumed we were all getting salad so when I said I wanted to know the soups, she said "you didn't tell me that earlier" snarkly. Mind you, its not like she had to take back a made salad since it was self-serve so I don't know what her problem was. Poor customer service. 2. Food- 2/5. Their "salad bar" was super basic, didn't even have croutons or a variety of dressings to pick from. Lettuce looked a couple days old as well. Mac & cheese was basic. Fried tilapia had no flavor. Buffalo chicken tenders was probably the best thing on the menu. Sweet tea was refreshing. 3. Environment/Location- 5/5. We were seated by someone else promptly at a clean table by the window. Located in downtown historic Plant City with ample parking and not much of a rush. Definitely a "diner" type of setting but also very family friendly. This was the first "restaurant" we've ate at in Plant City and it was a clear disappointment. Will probably stick to the farmers market or even the fast food joints if I'm hungry in this area again.

Delicious menu with great deal of variety and food it's always fresh!

I saw a post on Facebook that said they actually have lunch so we wanted to check it out to support local! They are located in the same plaza as Beefs. There are small tables outside, bar seating and about 7 tables inside. You walk up to the counter to order. They have several options on their menu so I tried the sandwich tea trio. It came with 3 half sandwiches(-I thought they were each supposed to be different but I got 2 pimento cheese and 1 egg salad- I may have read the menu wrong on that though), a small cup of soup and a small strawberry salad. The bread on the sandwiches tasted old like it has been sitting in the fridge a while. Egg salad wasn't seasoned at all. I tried the Spanish bean soup and it was delicious. The strawberry salad was ok but tasted like the lettuce had not been washed. My daughter ordered a cup of the same soup I ordered. My husband and my son ordered a pizza. Here was where it went downhill: My plate was brought out before anything. And then we waited. I don't eat until everyone has their food because I have manners. We were asked what we were waiting on and then was told ok the pizza takes a little longer. Understood. Why was my plate brought out then? Once the pizza came out, my daughters soup- the same as the soup I ordered and had in front of me for 15 min- still had not come out. So I had to go stand at the counter and ask for it. To be told it would be ready in a couple of minutes. We wanted to like this place and want to support our local businesses but this was just not a win for us. If you don't mind eating in front of everyone who hasn't gotten their food you might be ok with it. I would suggest they use table numbers like Crispers does and bring everyone's food at the same time.

It was 2:00 p.m. and there was no wait to order and our food arrived fast! My wife ordered her favorite, the Southern Classic Salad, which is 2 citrus grilled chicken tenders on a bed of lettuce with a scoop of house-made guac, sliced egg, bacon, tomatoes, red onion, smoked gouda, cilantro corn, croutons and a citrus vinaigrette dressing. It was delicious as usual and a huge portion! She ended up taking half of it home for later. I went with the 2-piece Perfectly Fried Tenders, medium heat with sides of So Gouda Mac and Bourbon Baked Beans. The chicken pieces were quite large and were perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of heat. The pieces were served on a piece of white bread with a pickle on top! The fried chicken is so good that I could eat here every day! We were both stuffed, so we skipped the Peach Cobbler and Banana pudding this time. It was a beautiful day, so we ate our lunch outside on the patio, entertained by the great 80's music and occasional police siren (since Florida Ave is a busy street). All in all, we had a fantastic time and will be coming back again soon! We both highly recommend Love Bird!

Nancy K was our server and she is not only fabulous in personality, she knew her menu. All of her recs were great and she showed genuine care for us. A family of 3 adults and child, we had apps and each an entree and our meal still came up to $78 prior to tip. The food was also delicious. I had the gumbo on my most recent visit as well as the onion rings. The gumbo was just what I needed. The onion rings are hugeeee, a bit oily but light so I didn't completely feel like an impending heart attack. Would recommend the restaurant and Nancy K.

I visited the host stand concerned we were not checked in correctly and that I would be charged $30 per person as a no-show. This was disappointing considering the items my husband was looking forward to were not available.
