I had lunch today at Charley's Lounge. I had Tuscan Charcoiled Chicken Penne (pan-fired chicken and white wine in a garlic-cream sauce and garlic toast). It was a HUGE meal and, though it was delicious, I couldn't eat it all. Because it was handy, I went back for supper. The south and west walls are all windows which look onto the water. I figured it would be a nice place to see the sun set. I was still kind of full from lunch so ordered some appetizers. The Charley's Duo Wings (spicy BBQ and buffalo style) were okay, not great. The Triple Cheese Toast was cheesy but a bit salty (I ate one slice because I was full). The service was great ... there were three servers and they were constantly asking me if everyone was okay and if I needed anything. When I left, the pub was about half full ... it looks like a popular place. read more

Charley's is the bar at the Crest Hotel.and the bar uses the same menu and kitchen as the Waterfront Restaurant so in a way this is a review for both. I was there for lunch before heading to the ferry to go to the airport. I like eating at bars when I'm alone. You don't sit alone at an empty table, you don't have to wait for the waiter and the bartender is usually willing to talk if he's not too busy. The bartender recommended the butter chicken makhani. Me: "Is there an Indian in kitchen?" Bartender: "No, but a guy came out from Toronto and showed the chef how to make it." His recommendation on the beer was a good, so I went for it. And you know what? This was undoubtedly the best chicken makhani in all of Prince Rupert. Probably in a 100 mile radius of Prince Rupert. Maybe more. The chicken makhani -- and all the other dishes I saw -- were presented nicely. A large portion in a bowl. A bowl of rice on the side. It arrived piping hot. The sauce was nice and spicy. I'd order it again. The bar and restaurant and are newly remodeled, very nice looking, with a great view of the water. If you're in Prince Rupert, give it a try. read more

This is a pub located in The Crest hotel and it shares a kitchen with the in-house restaurant, the Waterfront Lounge. As I was travelling solo I sat at the bar and found the service courteous and friendly. They had draughts of the common beers and only 2-3 local beers (Wheelhouse, Sherwood Mountain) and were nice enough to offer samples. I ordered Bouillabaisse and it was delicious and presented well; the server was great despite the fact I ordered 10 minutes before the kitchen closed. I also took advantage of their happy hour while waiting for a ferry and enjoyed their delicious sriracha wings and $5 pints of Stanley Park Pilsner while chilling out in front of their lovely view. My wife and I came to Prince Rupert to stay at the Crest Hotel for our 5th anniversary weekend. On our second night, we had dinner here, since it was well spoken of and at our hotel. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this has the best food Rupert has to offer. My wife had the northern king crab (1 lb of crab!) and I had the cowboy ribeye (24 oz. bone-in ribeye steak). Perfection. We ate maybe a third each and I was nearly drooling. The seasonal veg was fantastic. I ordered a very specific martini before the meal (tanqueray, extra dry, slightly dirty) and it might be the first time anyone other than myself has made it just right. The service was lovely as was the ambiance. Zero complaints. read more

In the Crest Hotel. In that English kind of way. Kinda reminds me of Fletcher's in the Cook. Nice selection of micros on tap. Tasty bar menu. Friendly and attentive staff. Ocean views, but we retreated away from the view due to the cold Windows to watch football. read more

I saved the Crest for our last dinner of our 3 night stay in PR. Good call. Charley's and the Crest are the class act in town. Hubby found the quality of his sirloin better than at Cargo. I tried their local catch curry and found it quite tasty. The lentils were too liquid and the naan crispy from being reheated, but all in all it was the best meal of the six different places we ate at during our stay in town. I'm happy staying at a less expensive place and splurging on good food. I appreciate the challenge of getting high quality ingredients in a remote town, and appreciate the effort that everyone in Prince Rupert puts into hospitality to make time spent in PR something to remember. read more

Great food. Not going to lie, it's probably the best food in Rupert. It's also the most expensive. This is my reason to only give it 4 stars. The Dijon crusted salmon is excellent, as are the halibut cheeks. Breakfast that could be cooked at home will likely cost you $20-30 after tax and tip ($15 for an omelette, $3.75 for a 6oz glass of orange juice). A great place to eat if you're staying in the Crest Hotel! Just don't forget your wallet. read more

I left another review for the crest, and this place shares the same kitchen. Slightly different vibe, same very good food. Now that I've eaten here about 50 times, i have to call it what it is though...amazing. A lot of restaurants have a hit ad miss menu...Charley's lounge is killer. It's all so damn good! BTW, they carry Burrowing Owl merlot, which I have been unable to find at the liquor store. It is expensive, but pretty comparable to buying a bottle directly at the vineyard in osoyoos, BC. We were staying in the hotel and leaving the next AM on the Alaska Marine Line Ferry. Yelp reviews were good, so we decided to give Charleys Lounge a try. Monday night 7PM the place was busy but not full, most seated on the outdoor deck, but it was warm and we opted for the air conditioned inside. Our order was taken promptly and drinks served, then we waited. At one time I noticed all of the servers were on the outdoor deck, even though by that time there were many more seated inside. Our server did come by a few times, offering more drinks, but we wanted food to go along with the drinks. When dinner finally arrived I have to admit it was very good. Unfortunately we were aggravated by that time and couldn't fully enjoy. I would defiantly be afraid to return if they were really busy. Even though the setting is good, and if you are staying in the hotel it is defiantly convenient, for us it would not warrant a repeat visit. read more
