Always love Wheelhouse. Great location, wonderful people, good vibes, excellent food, and really delicious beer (and cider/wine for me)! We hit the brewery on a rainy day, but still needed our pizza fix. Enjoying the views from the upstairs is a must on days like this. If you get off the cruise ship walk right about 15 minutes and you'll get to the brewery. We walked around town and then googled the brewery so we took the round about way to finding it. Google maps worked great and got us right there. It's a bit of a walk from the pier and cowbay so it's not as crowded. There was plenty of seating when we arrived. And there is both an upstairs and downstairs seating. Outside is a nice statue of a whale if you're looking to take pictures. They have a fairly large lot for parking if you happen to drive. We walked so that wasn't an issue. If you drive. Drive down the lane then turn right over the railroad tracks and it's at a dead end. When we arrived we were welcomed. There was a group at the first register so the gal at the second register called us over. We weren't ready yet so we just waited. We weren't quite sure what brew we wanted and asked a few questions. To our surprise weren't offered a taste of it before ordering like the person in front of us was, that was a little odd. I guess we should have just asked for a taste. They mainly serve pizza. I was in the mood for fish and chips, but that's not on there menu. I was surprised as they were a pub, but that's what the other pup in town is known for so opps we went to the wrong pub. Instead we ordered the artichoke and salmon dip with extra dippers. It was delicious. After ordering we choose to sit upstairs with the view. We were given a number and climbed the stairs to upstairs. It appeared they had a ada lift up the stairs, you'd have to ask to use it. We were able bodied so we just hiked it up the stairs. The seats next to the window was taken so we sat at one of the interior tables, but it still had a view. It was a wonderful view of the water. Food came pretty quick, it wasn't a long wait. Enough time to get settled and chat for a bit. They have bathrooms both upstairs and downstairs. Service was good. After we were done. They picked up our dirty dishes, but didn't refill our water. It was a very pleasant experience. I highly recommend this place to others that are looking for a good brew and pizza. read more

Walked to the brewery off the port, great location and small but quaint. Upstairs and down, very roomy. Nice selection of pizza, appetizers, and beer. We settled on the Diavoli pizza, my guy had the smokehouse porter which he said smooth porter with just a hint of smoke taste to it. I got the flight.. Killer wit which was a light, crisp refreshing beer. I also got the scurvy dog has spruce tips added not overly, Rupert lager was smooth and tasty and chef's kiss had a crispy taste, fresh. The pizza took a while to make and not too much salami, but over all great taste would recommend. We saw the appy platter pass by and it seemed to have alot of everything. We didn't know it existed so we only settled on the pizza, more than enough for two. The bartenders were nice, atmosphere was chill, the food... way better than in the ship! Of the three or so breweries we stopped in during our cruise, Wheelhouse had the best beer. It's right on the water next to a park. The space inside is a little tight and it gets crowded on cruise days--it was about a 45 minute wait for pizza but the beer is worth your time! read more

Wow, what a find. We had no plans for our cruise stop at Prince Rupert Island other than walking around and seeing the sights. On my way back to the ship I saw the Wheelhouse and decided to check it out. There was a covered patio and inside room where you could enjoy your beer. They had quite a few beers on tap, all very reasonably priced. I chose a plank, four 5 ounce glasses. I asked for them to choose four "malty" beers for me and they were scrumptious. The pub has a cool vibe and the crew are really nice people. They sell shirts, canned beer, and other swag, and it is only steps from the cruise pier. What more could you ask for?! read more

I'm sorry to be the party pooper, but these seven 5-star reviews need to get put in check with my 3-star. (I will give you credit: I finally found a Canadian restaurant with more reviews than I can count on one hand.) Ambiance? Great. Indoor and outdoor seating with a view of water. I saw a seal. Beer? Good. I think. SERVICE? Uh-oh!!!! I walk in and there's a line. Every once in awhile, the lady directs someone down the bar to "the other lady at the other" cash register or whatever. That's fine. UNTIL some schmoe who has been quaffing beers outside wanders in and straight up to lady #2 and orders more beer when WE ARE ALL STANDING IN LINE! See? SEE how unfair that is?!?! Also, while waiting in line, I saw someone bring out a pizza from the kitchen and just stand around at the bar talking for awhile. Then some guy grabs it from him and touched the crust with his fingers prior to delivering it. Eww. Not only is someone getting a cold pizza, but now it has more germs than necessary. You see? Came here to pick up some beer to bring to Kelowna. I got the Blacksmith Ale. I had a glass there as well. It was very light and the taste was not bad. I believe Wheelhouse Brewing Company is the only craft beer place in Prince Rupert. The owner also runs a craft brewery company in Terrace. Wheelhouse is located in the Cowbay area. They do have a parking lot. If it gets too crowded there are also the side streets and as well the Cowbay free parking lot within few steps away. Prices are not bad either and very reasonable. 650ml bottles are about $6.50 - $6.75 each. You can also sample before buying. Unfortunately they do not sell growler sizes. Who knows maybe in the future they will. read more

We found this fun place when our cruise ship docked in this town for the day. The beer selection was good and the pretzel (although kind of small and pricy) was good as well. The cider that I ordered was not that sweet, but my partner enjoyed his beer flight. This is a fun place to escape the cruise ship vibe for a bit. read more

The tender was fast and quick witted. It looked like he had been running a marathon since they opened for the floating hotel that docked in the AM. The beer is fantastic. I choose a flight and he rolled his eyes, partly because it's called a plank here and the other was probably like, "come on buddy, just pick a beer." But I had to get an idea what I wanted. I have a large palette when it comes to brew. The Wheelhouse does not disappoint at all. Flagship pale, superb and smooth. Scurvy Dog spruce tip, a little woody but very easy to drink and probably my favorite. Kazu Maru was a delicious tropical ale with a slight haze, and an excellent dedication to the vessel and fisherman, Kazukio Sakamoto. Surf and Turf was excellent, a hybrid between WBC and SBC, tender was busy and I didn't get the explanation or who SBC was properly. I liked this place so much, I would be back in a heartbeat and it would be my local haunt if I lived there. Thanks for your patience and serving an entire floating town of alcoholics :) The only negative I took away is the cost and quality of merchandise. Several of us purchased the pint glass. We love your slogan and logo! The only thing that needs some attention is your shirts were poorly printed on the new style stretch cotton and a bit high priced. No real man wears that crap, jk. Honestly, when our port of call was changed for Canada, to Prince Rupert I was annoyed. I immediately honed in on your brewery and made that my ultimate goal! I'm glad I got to see a new port from Victoria. While your town is small, it's mighty in charm. Even the drunk locals in the park were amusing as they cat called the passengers aboard and did obscene gestures, probably not your clientele. Great job on your business endeavors! read more

Sit or stand as you await a order of a pint/gallon of dark ale to stay or to go. Inside and outside are your choices to mingle with travellers and locals. read more
