I got my hair fried off and ruined by Kendall at Charlie and co Dallas. I've been getting my hair colored for years and never had any issue. I have contacted the salon numerous times and they did nothing. My hair is so DAMAGED. She bleached my hair and not only did she bleach my hair but she bleached my hair to where I it's dead broken, can't be fixed. I had to cut my hair 4 times since her service, I have not been able to get a color SINCE SEEING HER. I have given them time to fix this but after a year of my hair still being damaged it's unacceptable. They are a top salon in Dallas, I had no budget she could have charged me any amount but instead she left me with dead overly colored hair. My hair before was not like this at all!! I was set up with Megan for my appointment and felt like I totally hit the jackpot!! She was so sweet and attentive. My hair was exactly what I had envisioned when I left. It's also been easy to care for and recreate the same result at home, which is always the REAL test after you get your hair done! I really appreciated how collaborative the stylists seemed to be in making sure each client left with great hair. I had 2-3 stylists helping dry my hair and felt that they had a great team dynamic and were efficient and effective. My only constructive feedback would be that setting the appt was a little arduous. I called in and sent them pictures of my current and goal hair, as requested, and I had to call them back to follow up. My email got lost in the mix and they had not even realized that I sent in that info and did not proactively respond. Look, Charlie is one of the best colorists there is hands down. But the customer service here is just absolutely unacceptable. I have thought on this for months and wasn't going to write about my experience but now after looking for someone new to go to and being incredibly frustrated, I think it is warranted. I can only hope my constructive criticism helps them change their ways- or well Charlie. I have gone to Charlie off and on for years and consistently for the past few years. I originally stopped going because of the front desk guy and once I heard he had left, I went back to try it again. Like I said the color and cuts are perfect, great every time but the respect for your time is complete lacking. About 4 appointments in a row were moved on me and I was incredibly accommodating every single time. Always fine to switch days or time. But the last time was the nail in the coffin. After making an appointment, they called the day of or day before and said it no longer worked for Charlie and if I could switch to the following week- fine. The next week came around and day of they called me and asked if I could move from 6:30 to 5:00pm. I am a working mom, I have a baby and a life and lots going on- this isn't super easy for me day of but again I was flexible and agreed. They called again and asked for me to come in at 5:30pm, ok. They called me AGAIN and told me charlie had to cancel, they had some open days the following week. WHAT. Not only incredibly frustrating but I was taking clients out of town the following week, hence why I needed a fresh cut and color. Needless to say, I lost it on them. And I don't do it often but it was well deserved. A COMPLETE lack of respect for my time. I have spent a small fortune at this salon- I go to Charlie, my husband goes to another stylists and I have brought my daughter in here as well. Charlie has taken a lot of our hard-earned money and shows absolutely no respect or gratitude by AT LEAST keeping his appointments. I understand your popularity. I understand that you have LOTS of clients. I understand you have lots of clients with the means to go to you but I am still spending a small FORTUNE to see you, show some respect to your clientele that has gotten you to where you are at and provides the life that it does. All I can hope is that as a business owner, you can learn from your mistakes and treat your well-paying, loyal customers with more respect and show more respect for their time and not always put yourself first. read more

Ok so let me start by saying that Charlie is very talented, as is Jenny. I had zero issue with the actual stylists as this salon. That said, I will never recommend them, in fact I will actively recommend against going to them purely base on the fact that any owner of a business who hires a customer-facing assistant like Brian, who treats top dollar paying customers in the most condescending manner, deserves to be put out of business. The fact that this kid hasn't been fired blows my mind. Last year I waited a month to get in to see Charlie. I had to show up at the salon in person because I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone, call me back (left numerous voicemails) or even respond to email. Charlie did my "hair consultation" in person (so ridiculous and unnecessary, like get over yourself people, you do hair, not brain surgery) and then I was scheduled for my cut and color. I paid $700. I booked another appointment with Jenny several months later to do my cut and color because I wanted something slightly different for my cut and didn't need to pay top dollar again for Charlie to touch up color. Fast forward to last week. I spend another several days calling-no answer, leaving voicemails-no call back, and then finally I get Brian on the phone. This kid has the nerve to tell me that I need to send photos of my hair before booking another color appoint because it may have changed since they last saw me. He was telling me, that as an existing client, I needed to undergo further inconvenience to a freaking hair appointment scheduled. Absolutely absurd and pathetic. If you have a life, you probably don't have time to deal with these people. And if you have self respect, you definitely don't have the tolerance for these people. read more

Um, I love my hair! Rachelle and Chelsie did such a fabulous job and I couldn't be happier with the results. After months of wanting to make an appointment but hesitant to do so because of the cost, I finally did it and have zero regrets. I went in to get my hair colored for the first time at this salon and I can say that was definitely the last time I will be going there. I didn't know the lady that did my hair until my appt and she was super sweet but was treated poorly by Charlie the owner. At one point one of the assistants was helping her brush through my hair and he asked another assistant to tell her to stop helping and to hold the bowl of color for him. He had 3 assistants helping him and didn't want them lifting a finger for anyone else. You can just tell Charlie is one of those guys that thinks very highly of himself and he treats others around him with no respect. I felt very uncomfortable in that salon and would not recommend anyone go there. There are plenty of hair Salons in Dallas so please don't give this guy your business. read more

First the good - go to Taylor in Ft. Worth at Charlie & Co. - she's amazing and totally reasonable. I moved to Dallas & have seen Nick twice. First time he colored my hair way too dark. He said he followed Taylor's formula. Ok, maybe it just came out darker. I had to cancel 2 future appts. I made - I did them w/in cancellation allotment time. Went in for my color appt. & Nick approached me stating "You're Late!" I was 8 minutes late, so we spent 5 minutes discussing it. I requested partial highlights- he did full highlights which took longer and I never asked for full highlights. He complained about me the entire time he did my hair. He seemed to think that was amusing. 1st visit, I gave him 20% tip, 2nd time 24% tip- just bc he made me feel guilty. As far as I know, tip is optional and based on performance, I wish I gave him a 10% tip second time since he charged me $210 and I didn't receive what I asked for. He also told me he was done w/me & I had to leave w/wet hair. I had 1-1/2 glasses of wine during visit which was a big mistake bc I hadn't eaten all day. I am from LA - I have gone to Louis Licari and had great results at reasonable prices. My feeling is this is a salon that wants to be a "famous" salon. The reasons NYC and LA salons succeed, is they hire amazing people, train them to be successful; and, know without their clients, they have no business. No one ever leaves Luis Licari or any famous Beverly Hills or NYC salon unhappy - PERIOD! read more

I love Hair by Charlie! One of the scariest things to do (besides going bikini shopping after stuffing your face at Mi Cocina) is going to a new hairstylist. You have no idea if your "Just a little off the ends" is equal to their "Mullet? Sure we can do that" Eek! You are putting all of your trust in someone you have never met, when you won't even trust your man to watch your purse while you go to the bathroom at dinner. Thank G Hair by Charlie is in downtown to put you at ease. Charlie is super chill, and so is his salon. It's the perfect amount of space for his ninja cutting and coloring skills. Watch runway shows in Milan on the flat screen while Charlie works his magic. Then float over to the sink so he can massage the shampoo out of your hair. The downtown location makes for an amazing--and relaxing view--while you are treated to one of the best cuts in D-town. You might even pinch your own A on the way out. Getting your hair done is a special treat that not only makes you feel better, but Damn Girl (or Boy), makes you look hella fine! Charlie makes it easy to schedule appointment by allowing you to book online. So do it do it--it's totally worth your hard-earned mula. read more

I went in for highlights and color with Carlye. I mentioned on the phone that my hair is damaged and I want to do a consult and highlights. receptionist told me he'll book enough time for her to do a consult and highlights . Carlye came in very late, she had an attitude and was not friendly at all. I showed her multiple pictures of her own instagram page and asked if she could do it on my hair, she said she can't and it was those client's natural hair. She told me she doesn't have time to do anything except coloring my roots. If you wanna go to this salon just go with Charlie himself. Stay away from Carlye. I came to Charlie back in July because I wanted to get my Balayage re-done and my roots touched up.(I had my hair done by another salon in Uptown that did my hair but after fixing it three times it wasn't exactly as I had envisioned my hair to be.) I knew having HIM do my hair was going to be a good amount of $$$$ with that being said I was prepared. I did pay about $230+ at the other salon, that's not cheap either but having her re-do my hair three times to get the blonde distributed more evenly every time I just kinda gave up and settled. The final work wasn't bad but it could have been wayyy better for a salon voted #1 by D Magazine in 2014. I knew Charlie was the guy to go to and I knew he could get it right the "first time". I emailed Brian, his scheduler as I was instructed to do so on his website. I sent my pictures in of what my hair looked like and pics of what I wanted my hair to look like (new clients have to do this). Four months later I was finally in his chair! (I had to reschedule my appointment 2xs before finally settling on a date in mid July.) As a heads up do know that Charlie only takes new clients ever so often and it will take you awhile to get in with Charlie specifically. The day finally comes and I' super super excited to finally have my hair done by Charlie and have it look like the pictures he constantly post on his Instagram (hairbycharlie). I honestly think he needs to post all his before and afters on here and his new salon. I arrived and he asked me what I wanted and I told him I wanted my Balayage redone and my roots touched up as well to the color I had. (I did tell him about my previous exp. with the other salon.) I showed him the pictures on my phone that I emailed to his scheduler and explained what I wanted and what I didn't want. As the process begins he does all the coloring and has his assistant helping him when needed. When he is done I notice that I wasn't too sure if he had also colored my natural base to fit the color that I had on my roots that had out grown since having my hair done from the previous salon. A few min. later his assistant takes me back to shampoo and I asked her "did he not color my my roots as asked?" and she said "Why would you want your natural base colored?" I told her simply because "I don't like my natural color" "I wanted my hair to blend in well with the rest of my hair( the blonde/brown) since my natural base is a soft black." I don't like the look of having blonde hair with a dark black roots. She informed me while rinsing out my hair that the end results would be very nice and Charlie wouldn't let anyone leave his salon looking like a mess. I didn't doubt that but I was upset that I wasn't told I wasn't going to get my natural base colored as I did communicate that with Charlie. I wanted my roots colored to blend in well with the lighter hair I was going to have. I got sense from our conversation that apparently he doesn't do that and works around your natural base. As she is done washing off my hair another assistant starts to blow dry my hair. While it's now dry and straight I take a look in the mirror before she begins styling to make sure my hair looks as discussed. I notice the blonde is very well blended and it was more blonder which I was pleased about but I also noticed my dark roots. It did not look bad but at the same time I was still upset that I had dark roots. She now starts styling my hair in beachy waves and his first assistant comes by and asked how do like my hair? I told her I liked it but that I preferred not having the dark roots. Charlie comes by 2min later and takes a few pictures of my hair and gives me a big hug before I leave. The guy is genuinely a hair genius and he is very nice. Just make sure you ASK what you're getting and not getting colored before he starts. For that reason I give the salon a 4 stars. It's been about 4 months now since I had my hair done by Charlie and the blonde is holding pretty well. I'm hoping to go back to after Christmas to add more blonde to frame my face and maybe my get my roots done lol! read more

Well, I've always been a salon loyalist, so it was a huge change for me to leave my old salon for Hair by Charlie. I went to Lauren Chambers, and she rocked my hair! She really keeps me hip and up to date. I've stopped making the decisions about my hair, because she will do what is best for me. As a landscape designer, I have found the clients that give me the most control, end up with the best results. They know they want it to look pretty, but don't know how to get there. People that tell me what they want and where they want it, usually end up more displeased, because they actually aren't the expert. Knowing what you like and what will look best are two different things. I trust Lauren, that if I tell her what length I want my hair to be, that she will do what will look the most fabulous for my face. Cut, color, etc. She is well worth the money! read more

My sister referred me to Lauren so, I called the studio and setup an appointment. I arrived before my appointment and was seated immediately. Found this place because it's next to my complex. I scheduled an appointment with Emily, and she's positively wonderful. Really sweet, listens to what you want, and is pleasant to spend an entire hair appointment with. I wasn't entirely satisfied with how my haircut looked the first time around, and so I called to schedule to ask if Emily could do it again. She was more than happy to oblige, didn't give me any trouble at all, and she did an amazing job with it fixing it to my full satisfaction. I even tried to tip her again the second time around, and she refused. In short, I highly recommend Emily! :) The salon itself is cozy and small, which I really liked. Not at all like the typical salon set-up with loud, douchey music and overwhelming "spa" smells mixed in the air. My only complaint would be that there isn't always someone picking up the phone during normal business hours. I had to play phone tag with the salon multiple times for that appointment because I'd call and leave a message, they'd call and I wouldn't be available, so on and so forth. If they could fix the phone answering situation at reception, then they'd be fine. Also, adding an online appointment program to their website would really help--especially given that it's difficult to get an appointment squared away due to the phone situation. read more

There is nothing that Charlie does not do well. From the moment you schedule an appointment, everything is handled with professionalism in a friendly way. Charlie's skills are incredible, his work very quick but always 100%, and I can tell you his clients love him. His assistant, Chantel, always makes me laugh and gives everyone the same happy treatment. If you need a haircut, and don't really care what it looks like, go someplace else.
