Went there on Oct 30th, 2015 and opened a tab and got one $3-4 drink. They had me sign when I opened tab and gave my card back. I forgot to sign when I left, my mistake. They charged my card $27. Do not frequent this establishment. If you do, please keep a very close eye on your vehicle in the parking lot. I meet some friends for drinks there, we ended up going to another bar for about an hour, and upon our return, our car was towed. We tried to explain our situation and they did nothing. The tow company charged us almost $300.00 to get the car back. A complete scam. The tow truck driver / receptionist at the impound lot even admitted it! They said these private tow companies actually put in bids for this type o service, and whomever can bring the most revenue to the bar gets exclusive towing rights. They were both really nice, but their "boss" whom we tried to plead with was completely non-responsive and just answered to the bar. I took my friend in off great past experience however we arrived around 7 pm and no one was there, so we had a drink, and all of the employees or "workers" were setting up out back on the patio for a event so we decided to leave for the time being (BECAUSE IT WAS SUPER LOUD, they were dragging things around the patio and me and my friend could not have a good conversation) and were planning to return later.. and when we did OUR CAR WAS TOWED!!!!! So we went to the front where there was a big line to get in, and all they said was I'm sorry if you left our premises.. there is nothing we can do for you. WE ONLY LEFT BECAUSE THEY WERE SETTING UP FOR AN EVENT.. and we wanted to come back and join in.. ONLY TO FIND OUT OUR CAR WAS TOWED. so be careful and don't park in their lot for they are a trap. And the "manager" told me that they pay those people to make sure their premises is for their customers only... and we were their customers and they refused to look up the cameras!! This will be under investigation and I'm just telling you I'm advanced... DO NOT PARK IN THEIR LOT FOR THEY PAY PEOPLE AND HAVE A DEAL WITH TOW COMPANIES TO FUCK YOU OVER FOR DRINKING AND DRIVING AND I HEARD IT FIRST HAND FROM THIER "manager"... obviously will never support this place again.. and you've been warned! read more

What a comfortable and relaxed bar. I stopped by as an out-of-town visitor on a recent afternoon to squeeze in a drink before a family event. (alcohol needed). I was warmly welcomed on the patio at the bar and had comfortable conversation with the bar staff and fellow patrons. Small afternoon crowd but just what I needed. Charlie's is a great place. I like the adult side better. (AKA, the country side.) Unfortunately, the outdoor patio area is so unbearably smoky, that it is a big turn off. It's too bad that the young kids from the clubby side can't have their own area outdoors where they can all smoke. They are predominantly the ones that are smoking. I would think that anyone over 23 would know that smoking is not so "cool" any more. But the bar overall is a nice place and the people are great. read more

I love this place. Started taking the (free) dance lessons here when I moved to Denver and I've made so many friends, and still come to enjoy country dancing every week 2 years later. There's nothing else I do that's such a fun night out for so little money. I find the place very friendly, both patrons and staff. I don't mind the bathrooms not having doors or the building needing an update. I do find the noise level and the smoke coming indoors from the patio a bit much sometimes. I'm a queer woman and I'd say it's 20-50% women here on any given night, which is nice (for us, anyway). I am very grateful to this place for giving me a fun, safe, welcoming place to meet chicks and dance, week after week. Love it. read more

After going to a concert that was unfortunately cancelled, my friend and I went back to Charlie's to pick up our car that we left parked there. The concert wouldn't be more than 2 hours, so we hoped it would be fine. After coming back to find our car had been towed, we were obviously upset. However, we received further shock when we found out that the owner of Charlie's towed about fifteen (15) cars that night! 15! That's an insane number that is clearly out of pocket and rude. This messes up so many people's nights, who now have to pay the fee, get their cars back, and THEN go home. If it had just been a few cars who violated the rules I'd understand the tow. But 15!? There's no reason for that. Don't be mad your bar isn't busy on a Wednesday night. It's not our fault. Do better. read more

Very fun, gender diverse, and drinks were CHEAP! Saw my first gay line dancing here and was super into it. The male bartenders were extremely attentive, which doesn't always happen for women customers at gay establishments. Lots of gay women were there, minimal annoying straight women with "their gays." When friends come to visit Denver, this is a regular stop on the tour. A seriously diverse group of folks line dancing and two-steppin. Disco ball cowboy boot above the dance floor. Shitty beer selection (seriously, Charlie's, get it together -- it's Colorado). Second dance floor either has drag (boo) or top 40 (much better). It's been several years since I have gone to Charlie's, but after my experience there last week I will definitely be coming back here more often. Not only do they serve you your beer in a pitcher when you order one, but they have also really stepped it up when it comes to the entertainment. Charlie's, or as I like to call it, Chucks, is a good time. One side country and one side pop/dance and it works. A little bit of love for all the gays and a pretty dope smoking patio if that is your gig. The downfall is definitely the bathrooms. Not nearly as bad as the Wrangler, which tops them all, but it smells and unless you are a hovering master like myself, you better be good at holding that business in. read more

Stopped by last night. After we had paid to get in I was told I had to check my purse... excuse me, I'm not leaving my purse and belongings with someone I don't know. Are you kidding me? I've been going to Charlie's a long time. Since I was 21 and I'm 34 now. I haven't been by in a long while and this was a huge disappointment. We turned around and left after that. I had nothing to hide in my purse but to expect someone to check their purse is absurd. Perhaps telling people that BEFORE they pay a cover would be nice if this is policy you intend to keep. Also, paying a cover for CHARLIES is laughable. Keep it cute, girls. read more

FUN! I took my mom here. Just bring your smile, dancing shoes and a penchant to hug strangers. The country dancing was great to watch. A couple more beers and I would have been making a happy ass of myself trying to two step. The techno dance floor was small but filled with lighthearted bumping and grinding. I even got my mom out there. Love the mirrored wall- cuz shit, you know you want to check out your hot ass. The lounge area outside, kept slightly warm even in 20 degree weather, is a nice reprieve. Beer was 75 cents. Awesomeness! Bathroom was an adventure. Whatever your intended activity in the bathroom is, just bring a friend. It's low key, cheap, carefree good times. If you can't have fun at Charlie's then it's you, it's not Charlie's. read more

Charlie's used to my bar of choice in Denver but now I leave disappointed every time. What changed? The staff is terribly rude. No warnings they just scream at you at the drop of a hat. I'll give an example. I asked someone if I could buy a cigarette and immediately a staffer said to me "We don't tolerate that $#^& here. If I ever catch you doing that in here again you are perma-ban". That is completely unnecessary in my book. They no longer give out tap water. It's $2 bottled water or GTFO. There are a couple nice bartenders but that is not enough to keep me coming back. read more

This used to be my favorite bar that I would visit weekly. Unfortunately everything had recently changed for the worst due to new management. Be prepared to wait forever to get a drink (especially if a cute guy walks up, apparently they are the priority no matter how long you have been waiting), and no more good country music, even though this is a country bar in all other parts of the country. Last night, I was told I could not carry my purse with me into Charlie's Denver. It's apparently too big per a new bar policy. Since I'm not able to attach a picture to the review, I will say that the purse I had with is actually pretty small especially compared the the massive bags a lot of girls carry with them. I was told I could either leave it in my car or place it in an open wall cubby hole. I promptly left. First, I don't own a car, and if I did, I wouldn't drive to the bar because I live close and I'm responsible. Second, I'm not going to leave my belongings in an area where they are easily accessible to anyone in the bar. Third, I've been a patron of Charlie's for 7 years because it has been the place where I could be with people I loved and enjoyed. I've sung in benefit shows, celebrated birthdays, and spent many great nights with friends there. However, it seems that I will be avoiding Charlie's for the same reason I avoid the Wrangler. Also, does anyone know if they've put any doors on the girls' bathroom stalls? All those big improvements, and I've still had to pee in the open. P.S. Bite me, Charlie's. read more

I have never experienced the amount of racism as I have at Charlie's. I have been coming to this bar for 3 years and today because I asked about having a coat check available I was denied and kicked out. It came down to the manager telling me that he felt "disrespected". I didn't raise my voice l but simply asked what laws I broke and who would be responsible for my stuff that could be vandalized if it was kept in a cubical. I'm all for businesses succeeded and having the right to deny services but when an educated black woman asks a simple question of services it shouldn't command a polices attention. I have never had a police come to me because I asked "if there would be someone to make sure my stuff wasn't stolen or damaged. An establishment that fosters equality and love should know how to handle a situation of this magnitude better than to just "kick" the individuals out. On top of that the manager held his camera to my face and laughed all because a situation that he could have prevented or controlled wasn't handled. I'm not saying to not attend this establishment but to be aware that these discriminations are taking place all because a bosses feelings were hurt but for not real reason. I don't put this on her to spread lies but this happened to a person who is sober, educated and knows how to conduct themselves in public. read more

I downloaded Yelp to leave my first and last review for this piss poor excuse for a bar. Coming from AZ I was very excited to visit the sister location of Charlie's in Denver and was treated with by far the most disrespect I have ever received from an establishment. I heard music coming from the side door which was ajar and not being familiar with the location, I entered and was greeted by a drag performer singing a beautiful rendition of California Dremain'. After approximately 10 seconds a woman approached me and told me I had entered through the wrong door. I apologized and promptly exited. I went to the main entrance and was told that a manager had denied me entry. I asked what I had done wrong and the person tending to the front door brushed past me and would not so much as look at me let alone answer me. He only briefly mentioned that there was signage to indicate that it was not an entry point. After exiting I took a second look and the door was now properly shut so it could not be opened and there are NO signs on the door or the surrounding walls. I will NEVER go back to Charlie's. It was a Wednesday evening and there was absolutely no justifiable reason for any of this to have occurred. read more

Since the bar has had a new general Manager, since 9-2014, the bar has got "filthy" The bathrooms are not clean, I'm sick of no paper towels or toilet paper in the bathrooms at 4pm in the afternoon. My favorite place to go out to. Even on a weekday I can go in and there will be people to dance with and talk to. The drinks are reasonably priced and they do different specials every day. Plus they have karaoke on Wednesday's which is always fun. I bring EVERYONE here when they come to visit me because it's always a good time, plus the boys that work there are super cute and always super sweet to me. Dont even get me started on drag night! This review is strictly based on my experience at Charlie's on Saturday evening during Pride. I have been going to Charlie's for years and this is the first time I have been completely and utterly disappointed. The remodeling in the building looks nice, but it feels like it has taken away half of the dance floors. Part of the thing I love about Charlie's is the country music and the sense of community based around that country music. The female bathrooms were a horrible mess. They have two stalls, however, at some point one stall was clogged. At the same time the other bathroom had something smeared all over the walls and stunk to all holy hell. Management did absolutely nothing about it for hours. I have never been so disgusted by a bathroom. On the outside of the bar there were go-go dancers (if you could even call them that). They were obviously drunk and were not good dancers. The "dancers" also had control over the music played to the outside bar. One "dancer" continually played Kesha - Your Love is My Drug. This song was played over and over and over again. I counted the song being played 6 times in a row before my group got sick of it and went inside. The patrons were booing the "dancers" and the "dancers" did not seem to care. An establishment should not let the "go go dancers" be the dj for part of the bar. read more

This bar was a hoot. We walked in and were like 'cowboy hats? really?' but my honey was so pleased by their covered smoking area that she was willing to brave the tumbleweed that we felt could blow through the place at any moment. We'd gone for the Monday night karaoke which was slow to get started but then picked up quickly. It was fun to sit on the extremely slanty couches in the 'lounge' and watch the gay, gay, gays get going. There was more gay going on in that room than in all of Indiana (where we're from). I was amused by (but not unprepared for) the guy who stripped down to his very tight tighty whitey's because it was 'underwear' night. There wasn't a huge lesbian contigent out that night but we weren't entirely invisible. The room we were in that had the karaoke was filling up by the time we got tuckered out just around midnight and of course the smoking area was about near capacity but the dance floor still had that tumbleweed threatening to blow through it. I could imagine this being an awesome place to rock out on the weekend. We had a lot of fun there. read more
