My experience started out so positively and I felt truly cared for and then it devolved into he said/she said between doctors and nurses that left me lacking any clarity and feeling stressed and overwhelmed and alone with a serious ongoing medical issue. I have gone to Charlton with many different concerns and always thought I was making an intelligent decision in doing so. I no longer believe that to be true. Their nursing staff was attentive but lacking the ability to be an advocate for patients; the general handling of the whole person was lacking. They created a huge stir around an issue i was not even being seen for, and then when my stress was at its highest they discharged me without vital prescriptions they had promised. I'm so disappointed and alarmed in their utter disregard for my well-being. read more

Our family has been bedside here at the hospital sharing Pepere's last moments with us. We have visited, stayed for the last 4 days and the staff here have been incredible. The first couple of days he was treated on the second floor and has since been moved to the fifth. Horrific experience. Dr brian tsang in er was aggressive, abrasive, dismissive and rolled his eyes when i told him my gi suggested i go to er. He was so upset that that was suggested. I was humiliated in front of the nurse and 2 parents, As he agessively told me theres no rason i should be there. Im not sure if it was a homophobic response. I know that everyone's experience is different but I can't say enough good things about this hospital and the care my husband received beginning with the emergency room. They took him immediately due to the nature of his problem. Sure the receptionist could have been a little more pleasant but we weren't there to make new friends and I can only image what she has to put up with. Dr. Michele Grossman was the emergency room doctor and she was excellent. So good as a matter of fact that I looked her up to see if she was a primary doctor as well. Once he was admitted to the hospital he was under the care of Dr. Idris Almuhannad, who was also excellent. The nurses were great and the hospital was clean. The food needs a little work, but we were not there for a good meal. I give them a 5 out of 5! read more

Absolutely no doubt in my mind. *However* I had the misfortune of interacting with some parking lot attendant asking curtly if I had an appointment. Is it your job to goof off on your phone and then ask rude questions to patients? What if you were quite sick or worried about a sick relative and someone barked that at you? If I could give ZERO Stars I would!!! My wife had surgery this morning. Surgery was done at 1030AM . It's now 3PM and she has been laying on a hallway waiting for a room since surgery ended!!!! Why schedule a major surgery without assigning the patient a room. After a major surgery laying in a hallway IS NOT how a patient should be treated. I have asked several times what is going on and all I get for an answer is " we are waiting for a room sorry" that's it. Meanwhile I wait in the front entrance and have to check each hr to see if she has a room. I left after several hours only after I was told by one nurse that she may not get a room and will spend the night in the hall. RRALLY!!! After a major abdominal surgery you will leave a patient on a transport stretcher in the hall all night long!!!!! Clearly "treat em and street em" is what they follow at Charlton!. Granted there were lots of people waiting to be seen but no one seemed to have a sense of urgency- frankly everyone looked miserable and it wasn't because they had a long day because we got there at 6:30am. I have the unfortunate history of having been a patient in hospitals practically coast to coast. This is the worst hospital I've ever been in. The reason for this is the nurses, not the doctors. With a few exceptions, namely nurse Walter, these folks are very, no distinctly, contrary to what one would wish. I understand it's a trying profession and we are in difficult times, but I think that this should be assumed as a thing they must overcome. Specifically, I would like to complain about the attitude of nurse Maria. She was unpleasant and curt. On the other hand, the therapists were without exception nice people. Medically, I personally needed to catch mistakes that may have led to my demise. My blood pressure was very high and I was scheduled for breathing treatments that contain a chemical that raises the pressure significantly. If I didn't catch it myself then, perhaps, an emergency would have occurred. Someone had no idea what they were doing! This is a place to avoid if at all possible. read more

You only get in quickly if you know the local emergency response staff or the nurses. Other than that you can expect to wait 6+ hours with no updates on how much longer until you're seen. Don't expect to sit and wait either , standing room only after I got out of triage. I have never in my life had such a negative experience at a health care facility and will certainly never go back. read more

There is a male nurse in the ER that throws things at patients, could be heard saying "I can't take this shit anymore" and told my husband if he felt that way about being in the ER he probably should just leave????? A man in extreme pain who is having things thrown at him voices displeasure and gets no help for hours on end (because there was no room?) My opinion is if a nurse "can't take this shit no more" probably is in the wrong job and needs to be fired for mistreating people in pain in an ER. This is the worse hospital to schedule a procedure. My dad had surgery and was in OR for 8 with not eating all day before they took him in. We were told no beds. I came in for a colonoscopy and waited 3 hours, no call to confirm my appt and they told me to stop eating 48 hours prior to my actually procedure. I had the same procedure done in Boston and it was like click work no waiting. This is a poorly runner hospital. The staff and dr's are very professional and skilled. I was told no rooms. read more

i have never been treated badly here! i have had to go to charlton's emergency room,sooooo many times in the last 4 years! i have a blood disorder (ttp) that screws up my platelet. my potassium is always dangerously low when i go in. my body eats up my potassium like a toddler with m&m's. when i have gone into the er with this issue...... yes, i wait for awhile. never over a hour tho!!! i sit in the waiting room with ya'll!!!! i, truely, want to bitch you all out when you think that your sprained ankle or sore throat etc, takes precedense over the person coming in by ambulance!!!! you are in the emergency room! emergency!!!!! make an appointment with your primary!! read more

Wish I could give this place 0 stars my daughter went her to be seen and we are around other patients that have covid symptoms yet some of them didn't have masks on but no one checked then when I complained the lady at the front desk said it's there choice to wear a mask or not I said yeah well I don't want to get sick or catch covid because people don't have a mask.... If you want to have a baby, don't thank that your experience at this hospital is going to be great because it's the worst thing I have ever witnessed. In 12 hours we had 10 different nurses, couldn't find the baby on two different occasions, and there is a pure lack of coordination of care. I just moved to the area and a friend suggest Charlton Memorial when I told her I was having severe abdominal pain. I arrived and they took me in immediately and ordered a CT Scan. The staff was friendly and attentive the entire time I was there. The staff changed hands and everyone that took care of me was amazing!! I've had several bad experiences here over the years, but I'll tell you about the latest one. I went for a panoramic x-ray on my jaw. There were not enough seats in the waiting room, so they showed me a men's changing area with some seats. They said they would let the x-ray technicians know I was in there. I asked how long it would be because I need to get back to work. They said 15 minutes. I waited for 1.5 hours before they found me and said "oh he's here". After the first x-ray the technician came back and said "it didn't come out right it cut off half of what I needed". So they did it again. The second time same result. They wanted to x-ray me for a third time and I said no. Come to find out the technician had it on the wrong setting and did not check it before proceeding with the first or second x-ray. I asked to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor assured me everything was OK and I could go for a third. I said "since you're supervisor could you do it?". The supervisor replied with "well I'm not qualified." If you would like to get mistreated, misdiagnosed and radiated this is the place. read more

On monday my husband went in because of a seizure he had downstairs from oncology I asked then not to bring him to ER because this is normal for him but they didn't listen. Well got to ER they gave him alot of Ativan so he was unable to speak from himself . During exam I kept saying he has seizures and is being treated for them this is normal nothing they would do would change it . Er dr Insisted on calling on call neurologist and he pretty much said Charlton couldn't help him and we know this because this is his every day life . Well then the ER dr insisted on calling Rhode Island hospital even though I said no there's nothing they can do Well I was thankful they couldn't take him he needed to be home he had a neurologist appt on Tuesday morning still didn't listen proceeded to call Boston where my husband has been before and they do nothing because once again this is his life. Dr malik out of life span wants to do brain surgery, and our insurance said they wouldn't pay for it I told the ER dr and he didn't listen to me at all so before Boston Hospital called back in asked for a AMA and signed it I am my husband's proxy. Just before all this dr Kirk came in pissed off at me because I kept saying no and he used the F word when he was scolding me like I was a child oh I am 58 years old I shouldn't have been treated like that . No one listened at all to me . I even had a nurse yell at me because I asked for help when she stepped forward to me I thought she was going to hit me and she yelled at me I was really treated awful I have never before had an experience like that . I did nothing wrong except to speak up for my husband and I was treated like crap . read more

The nurses are Fantastic, but the Dr that attended me was awful. Dr Brian Tsang has zero compassion and is very cold and dismissive. Dr Tsang used the excuse that he is not a "specialist" in a specific field of medicine, which should not be a valid explanation. Worst hospital experience of my life. Mom went in for a procedure at 8AM - was done by 11 AM. Procedure requires an overnight stay so they will have to transfer her to a room. At 1230 they told me she would be tranfered to a room soon and I could see her in 30 min to 120 minutes - 4 hours later still not tranfered to a room and they still won't let me see her. They say it is because there are no rooms available AND they refuse to let me see her - what are they hiding? This was scheduled months in advance - how can they not have a room for her? To top it all off - dirtiest bathrooms I've ever seen in a hospital (dirtier than most fast food restaurants). They just don't care at all here. read more

I wish I could give this hospital a ZERO. You could be dead on the floor in that waiting room and they would've stepped right over you. I went into the Er by ambulance. I was taken out of my bed with no socks and no bra. When I got to the hospital it was very chilly. I asked the closest nurse if someone could please get me socks. She said one minute. She continued to type on her computer for several more minutes. I had to ask again for socks. The entire time they talk to you it is condescending. The waiting room was a complete disaster. No staff checks up on anyone. There was a man who came in with a busted head bleeding everywhere. They don't even offer him a cloth to stop the bleeding. This girl threw up everywhere in the bathroom and they never got anyone to clean it. They just let people continued to use it. I was shivering and my mom went to the front to ask for a blanket and the nurse responded very cocky "she has a fever that's why". I didn't have a fever. My temp was 98.9. My mom helped people in the waiting room. A lady in a wheel chair helped me in my wheel chair. Also they just downplayed how I was feeling. There is zero empathy. The staff was behind the desk just laughing, drinking coffee and talking about their lives. They never checked up on anyone in that waiting room. Someone could've been dead and they wouldn't know. I was completely disgusted. They have been so rude to me every time I have gone for the last ten years. I wasn't capable of making decisions when the ambulance took me. They brought me to the closest hospital which was this. I knew better than to go here. All I can say is try to stay away from this hospital. They will just let you die right there and they do not care about you. read more

I just got MYCHART on my email and it said I refused treatment. I can not believe how unprofessional the nursed are there tonight. I am so disgusted with this place. The YOUNG NURSES are so disrespectful I heard one nurse tell someone.. If you think I care... omg.. then the person drawing my blood was so rude to me I can not even believe they work in a hospital. I went in with sever chest pains and got put in the waiting room for almost 2 hours to only be brought into the back to be put on a bed in the hall way..... no monotors or anything. In pain... I asked if she (the nurse0 was kidding to put me on a bed with the severe chest pains I was having only for her to say... WELL YOU CAN GO BACK OUT INTO THE WAITING ROOM IF YOU WANT. like many other reviews, I wish 0 was a selection.My mom was there twice in 3 weeks and both were abhorrent. O Friday she suffered a traumatic fall, was taken tgere by ambulance. she could not walk or bear any weight. They refused to X-ray her hip/ pelvic area and sent her home. 3 days later she went to St. Luke's ER where they did a full work up and she has a rib fracture, a pelvic fracture and fractures in her hand. She's 88 and suffered needlessly because of their incompetence and indifference. read more

I went in there yesterday because my son wasn't feeling good. waited in the room for the doctor for almost 3 hours. she RUSHED checking my 8 month old son, claimed that he had a ear infection and prescribed me medicine for him. my son kept throwing up the medicine, I followed up with his pediatrician the next day come to find out he DIDNT have a ear infection and I basically gave my son medicine that he kept throwing up for NO REASON! read more

ER staff is decent, but the CT team is wicked slow and takes way too long. They also have no problem venting their frustration at other floors, staff and administration in open air. It is extremely rude and annoying to deal with when your here because something is medically wrong. Last thing anyone wants is to hear someone complaining about their job, especially when your at a place who's main goal is comforting the ill. read more

Everyone that we encountered was pleasant, considerate, kind, patient and professional despite the fact that it appeared to be a busy day. I had a serious surgery here at Charlton. A hysterectomy. Everything stayed on scheduled and played out as best as it could. Due to back pain, I was wheeled in to the room to get comfortable prior to a TKO to my IV. I woke in recovery that was my only bad experience. I watched the nurse sit at her station ask my pain level and disappear again. I finally got louder and requested heated blankets for my stomach as she never got pain meds. My next two nurses for Thursday were the best and joking around kept them busy and our stories kindness from them was the best though. The food well call me I will bring you some. Had a cryoablation at Charlton. Fantastic experience. Very space age operating room and control room. Very impressive. Very comforting. Had to spend the night. The nursing staff and support staff could not have been better. They were absolutely wonderful. I did feel it the next day. But that's because I went through a long complicated invasive procedure. After all they were inside my heart. Dr Sood is very reassuring. Explained everything really really completely. Outstanding. read more

This Hospital is horrible. I had covid and they gave me a chest xray and said I had "covid pneumonia" then sent me home. They did not do anything for it. My primary care doctor was so mad that they didn't do ANYTHING to help me. I ended up needing corticosteroids for my lungs. She didn't understand why they just sent me home with no help or treatment. read more

Luck of the draw. Dropped off my wife 5 hours ago with flank pain. Test were done 3 hours ago. Still waiting. Kid across the hall has an athletic injury. Had an X ray or two. Dr has visited at least 5 times in the 3 hours he has been here, now walking out the door. No idea what my wife's doctor look like. Billing will be done before we leave, can be sure of that. read more
