This hospital sucks so bad. ON 5/21 at 6pm, went to the ER because I passed out three times. The nurse wouldn't triage me into a room but left me to sit in the general waiting area. I left after 10 minutes because I saw I would be there probably 12 hrs. They wouldn't estimate my wait time. The nurse told me there's 8 different triage areas. But wouldn't tell me which one I was out in or how long I could be waiting for even though I asked. Just a rough estimate would have been fine. But nope. And there is ONE nurse triaging all the patients. That is insane. They all act like it's a big fkn party. There must have been 75 ppl in the waiting area and about 35 more in line. And they have ONE NURSE. AND SHE TOOK HER SWEET MERRY TIME. SLOW AS A TURTLE. The ER and hospital throughout is like a 3rd world country. Absolutely unacceptable. If it turns out that I have a heart attack or major heart issue, I am suing Miriam hospital. DO NOT GO HERE. GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE. They should be ashamed. I saw plenty of illegal immigrants in there for the sniffles. And those of us with major health concerns have to wait 12 hours. Get your shit together. read more

Tight visitor parking but free! I had no idea there were visiting hours! (Note: I would understand a nighttime cut off.) FYI: 10am-1pm, 4-7pm. Luckily when I entered to visit someone, it was 3:40. I did have to wait about 15 minutes in line to register with the lobby staff as a visitor. Standing in the line, we were next to the exit door that kept swinging open and getting hit with bursts of cold, January air! I have to say, this was a terrible system. Also, apparently kids under 13 can't visit. My 13 year old was with me and I would have been really upset if I found out after standing in line. This was not posted anywhere but apiece of paper handed to me at the check in station. There is a waiting area. Someone alerts you once it hits 4pm and you can then go and visit. I have to say, I disliked the process. It was clearly posted on the patients door that I needed PPE equipment to visit. The nurses station quickly set us up for success. KUDOS to Miriam. About a year ago at a nearby hospital this was the case with my father but nothing was posted and I found out AFTER I had already been visiting with him! The Nurse we had was well liked by our patient but I found her to be a know it all. Telling my daughter what her pathway to college should be. (Not nursing either.) She also didn't get the message we were visiting and just stood around and took up a lot of our patients time. Keep in mind, we offered to leave to let her do her duties but she rejected. It was mostly standing around and being a part of our time. Overall, our older family members really prefer Miriam. I did think the room was very clean and the floor we were on was quiet. read more

Recent 3 day stay. (I am an RN). Here are my suggestions for Ways to improve services/care: I was Never offered a facecloth, towel, fresh Johnny, toiletries (thankfully brought my own), bed linen was not changed (3 days), fresh water (had to ask for it and call each time repeatedly except when Eusebio was on). Rarely saw any cna after they checked in at start of each shift. Had to call repeatedly (3x) for Iv pump beeping multiple times (30-45minutes later after 3 calls they responded). Roommate in pain 4.5 hrs later and after her/my telling 4 staff members she finally got pain med. Asked to give stool and urine specimens but had to repeatedly ask for a hat/collection container. Hospital Dr tried his best but was limited by GI's direction. I was Insufficiently prepped for sigmoidoscopy. No one advocated for reprep and repeat (except me and it was declined). Enemas ordered at 8a received at 1130a, test was 130p-test later postponed to 430p (no reprep which I asked about). No definitive diagnosis. Wanted to sign out ama but insurance said I'd be stuck with the bill. Had to repeatedly request discharge for 2 days in a row (since nothing was being done). The plan of care/Treatment which was never truly discussed with me was just upping meds I was already on and adding on lactose (I thought the hospital dose given was 1x only was surprised to find it in my discharge meds with take daily for a month-Dr never mentioned that was the plan. This med and upping antidepressant med only made/is making my symptoms worse. Feeling worse now than I did when I came into the hospital. Repeatedly requested steroid-drs refused. I felt that I was absolutely not listened to and was not at all included in my plan of care. Once home I Followed up outpatient for steroids, the GI MD agreed to prescribe them, I'm picking script up today. The only reason I did not give not one star is solely due to the following staff members: Wyatt RN(holding unit) sweet and truly caring. Eusebio RN (seriously a gem and born caregiver and staff educator THE BESTnurse I've ever had) the only nurse to anticipate, follow though on my requests, respond quickly to calls (for any nausea meds), listen attentively and even referred reikki practitioner to me for pain management/nausea management. He deserves accolades and a raise. He was also educating a student nurse from RIC and his educational skills were exceptional. Kate (endoscopy) truly professional and attentive, a great patient educator. Michelle (phlebotomist) amazing comforting bedside manner and skilled at what she does. Ray (transport) also great attitude and very sweet and calming. Gabby (Reikki/RN) the best Reikki session I have ever had, truly skilled at Reikki. Fabulous calming and caring personality a true gem. Really loved the Eastern Medicine practices you are incorporating into patient care: pet therapy, Reikki, etc. The customer care cart-offered books, etc The CNA daily lets go for a walk-I didn't need it since I was independent in care but it's a great service. But adl/personal care and individual basic needs services are seriously lacking. Despite the above staff members, I would not return here. Only came because this is where my GI MD is associated with. read more

I do not recommend this hospital. I waited almost 10 hours in the ED waiting room amongst others, one of which was having an active stroke, yet no care was provided. The staff does not care about their patients. At check in at the ED they told me my medical history did not matter. I was "too loud" in the waiting room (due to being in pain) and they put me in a room all by myself and no one checked on me. They tended to homeless/drugged/overdosed patients begging for food before they tended to those in need of medical care. Once I was on the inpatient floor, the nurse took 5 hours. Yes 5 hours, to answer my call bell. I had to go out to the nurses desk to ask for something. When arriving there they were all laughing and on their phones. Run don't walk- AWAY FROM THIS HOSPITAL. Let me say when someone is brought in by ambulance and put in an overflow part of the ER they should receive great care and respect just as if they were in the ER. In this case none was given. Early Saturday morning I went to pick up my son to bring him to the hospital. He was in so much pain I got scared and stopped at a fire station where he was brought by ambulance. My husband is an aortic dissection survivor of 13 -1/2 years. I had awful memories flowing back seeing my son in this much pain. When he got to Miriam he was put in the overflow part. Screaming in pain and swearing because of the pain. When I got there he was basically stuffed in a corner(I have pictures and videos). He had told me he vomited on the floor so I went and told the nurses. They said okay. The whole time we were there no blanket was given to him, no VOMIT BAG was ever given to him. I was the one that got the vomit bags to give him. I covered him with his jackets. The vomit was never cleaned up. Then a nurse comes in about an hour later very rude asking him if he was around anyone who was sick. Basically she was trying to tell him it was probably the norovirus. Seriously!!!!! With the way he was screaming. He was given zofran and that was it. This was the absolute worse treatment I have ever seen anyone NOT GET!!! You throw someone in the back like that and don't acknowledge them not even with a blanket or vomit bag. We finally made it to the ER around 2:45 in the morning where he was seen and got great treatment by everyone. The surgeons, drs., nurses were great. The other thing however is they did not allow me to bring his twin 9 year old boys who have autism in to see him after he had surgery and when he was upstairs in his room. Why in the world would you say to someone who would truly benefit from seeing family their kids could not go see him. SO WRONG ON MANY LEVELS!!!! Family is the best medicine and for the poor kids. NOT RIGHT AT ALL!!! If you are a hospital that cares then show you care about your patients and make changes. read more

I'm a former radiology technologist that has worked in many Emergency Rooms during my 30+ years in the field. Unfortunately, I was on the other side as a patient last week. The quality of care that I received last week at Miriam Hospital Emergency Room was TOP NOTCH! The ER physicians and nurses that cared for me were competent, caring, compassionate, and highly professional! The ONLY gripe I have was the unsightly overbearing CLUTTER in the hallways that consisted of iv poles, crash carts(?), stretchers, hampers, monitors, trash bins, baskets, empty oxygen tanks holders, linen carts, other ancillary equipment and more! Couple that with all of the ER personnel, other hospital workers, patients, and visitors that were moving about and navigating to wherever. It was a madhouse, and not that busy of a day according to a few employees! The hard working hospital staff were exemplary and I was highly impressed! The chaotic and cluttered Emergency Room was certainly a huge disappointment. Strangely, I will give my experience during my 6 hour stay 5 stars because due to the care I received. The dedicated ER personnel deserve it and they should be PAID MORE accordingly! Time for an expansion and upgrade for a new Emergency Room. It's long overdue! read more

Miriam is one of the best hospitals In the area! My dearest friend has been treated for cardiac issues and he was given the utmost respect and care. They virtually saved his life by getting him into the cardiac catheter lab immediately once they stabilized him. If one goes to the ER via walk-in and has an immediate issue and makes them aware of this, they will immediately make sure one is "safe" and not put one at the end of the line. Still may have to wait, depending on issue, but, the wait is well worth it with these incredibly caring, knowledgeable staff. You get the best care here!!! read more

Beware of the dismissive staff... There are some very good people who work here but also MANY dismissive ones. I was left suffering for over a year cause of it... In August of 2023, I received a botched spine injection that caused a CSF leak. Shortly after, I lost my sense of taste, smell, developed pounding headaches, was incredibly fatigued and my vision was like static. I needed eyeglasses for the first time in my life. By the evenings, I struggled to sit upright. I never went to the ER before this unless it was an absolute emergency. In fact, I only went to the ER maybe twice in my life prior to this occurrence. Between September of '23 and September of '24, I visited Miriam ER multiple times with the same complaints. It got worse and worse and I was left suffering for over a year because nobody there believed me and said it was psychosomatic... I was told , despite the timeline of when it occurred, that it was impossible that the injection caused a CSF leak. Mind you, I WOKE UP during the procedure and felt a tremendous amount of pain. I knew something was wrong. But the doctors refused to believe me. They suggested I see a psychologist. In the middle of last year, I returned with thunderclap headaches. This visit went entirely wrong. First, the triage doctor refused to hear my story and tried brushing me off. Then the nurse injected Benadryl too fast IN THE DARK and sent my heart rate up to over 180BPM. It took my friend over 5 MINUTES to get someone to take the IV out of my arm. The nurse tried claiming it was a "panic attack." They blew out my vein and left me with a huge bubble in my arm. When they did my lumbar puncture to investigate, they missed which wound up worsening my initial CSF leak. When I returned to Miriam a week later unable to sit upright from the pain, the triage doctor said it was "too late" to treat my CSF leak and it's likely not possible that I have one. Mind you, I was in so much pain that I was laying on the floor cause they gave me a room with a recliner and I couldn't sit up. The triage doctor has no sympathy and I had to tell her I am refusing to leave until they help me because I am NOT getting brushed off again!!!! The doctor I was transferred to was so kind and the other staff were compassionate. Putting my foot down worked for once and I was finally able to get my blood patch after a year of suffering. And guess what?! It WORKED. Unfortunately it didn't last though. When I met with a new neurologist shortly after, he confirmed what almost every employee at Miriam DENIED. He confirmed that it was entirely possible that the spine injection caused a CSF leak and that since I got some relief from the blood patch, that I am a candidate for a multi level patch. He sent me to interventional radiology... something any of the countless dismissing staff at Miriam could've done for over A YEAR. After receiving my targeted blood patch, my taste came back entirely, I can smell flowers... I can eat and enjoy food. I can go out with friends... I can create art again cause I can see.. I even was able to go back to college! The level of dismissive staff at Miriam is astounding... There are a few amazing staff there but there's a lot of bad ones too... unfortunately, I was told that because they waited so long to treat me, the damage to my memory and certain cognitive issues may be irreversible! But wait! There's more... Last year I was having severe pain that I thought was my appendix. I met a nice doctor at Miriam who was so kind, understanding and helpful. He discovered that it was actually my gallbladder causing issues! They found gallstones and it was inflamed. Despite this, at what I can only assume to be shift change, a different nurse came in to do a pelvic exam. I found this very odd since they already determined the cause for my pain. This lady had the nerve to say that my pain must be from IBS or period cramps and sent me home with medication for cramping... Just a few painful weeks later, I was rushed into emergency surgery and the surgeon agreed that my gallbladder should've come out sooner as it was shrunken, inflamed and full of different types of stones... All I can say if you got to Miriam or any other hospital in Rhode Island, stand your ground. If you know something is wrong, don't let them dismiss you cause it's all too common and took so much from me because they wanted to blame everything on anxiety when there was a real, physical cause all along... had I gotten treated when I first asked for help, I probably wouldn't have lost so much that I can never get back. read more

I have used this hospital for more than 30 years. During my latest 6 day visit was a total horror show that I need my care at the hospital. I was taken to Miriam Hospital by rescue, my point was over 10+. That's what internal bleeding. I was informed that I had a 2 + hour wait. They did not examine me at my arrival what so ever. In the hospital records the nurse states she performed a exam and had no problems. Fortunately a family member arrived and reported to a doctor of my pain level. She is a retired nurse. Things began to happen. In my opinion one should consider going to this emergency room. My visit did not get any better, in fact I was informed I was dying from kidney failure. In the next few days I my condition improving. Well the problem was no one informed me of this fact. Once I was home I looked at every blood test and found this fact. I called the doctor in charge of my treatment informed me since I chose to live out my final days no further exams and tests would be done. Well I have a paper work and blood test were done, it appears to me either the staff ignore the daily blood test or they chose I was now a specimen for Brown University students could examine me. I know this is a long review but I left out other important events. I can only say I will think twice before going to this Hospital. read more

My husband had to go to the ER because he's on blood thinners and had internal bleeding. We arrived at 5 p.m. ER was mobbed with people waiting. There was an overflow waiting area opened up. There had to be 100 people waiting in the ER to be seen. So my husband, who's having internal bleeding, and I, waited for 9 1/2 hours, NINE AND A HALF HOURS, from 5 P.M., 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1 A.M., 2, 2:30 A.M. to be seen. It was sickening waiting there like cattle in a pen. The ER nurses and all staff were professional as they could be under the circumstances, however, WHAT HAS OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM COME TO???? So many sick people, people in pain waiting to be seen. This was a horrible, horrible experience. I'm so disappointed that our health care in this state has deteriorated to this degree. read more

Hospitalized for several medical issues. My uncle is receiving good care . They are feeding him one on one because he is unable to feed himself. The front desk security the short African guy is very rude. He is employed by Allied Security. I had a meeting with Doctors pertaining to my uncles health and this man needs training on his customer service skills when it comes to important matters. It wasn't just me that encountered an issue with me another man in front of me had a family member in ICU that he was also giving him an issue as well. The staff is so overworked they are to the point of breaking and patient care is being shelved to the point that staff is annoyed when ask for doing their jobs. At the Emergency Dept., waiting rooms are small and scattered. After entering the ER, patients have to "stand behind the tan line" on the floor until they're acknowledged by staff members who call them in. It was a really unpleasant experience. **The medical personnel that took tests and cared for me were all pleasant and very competent. They did a great job and put my mind at ease regarding my test results. I can't say a bad thing about any of them. ** Each of the tests took a few minutes. But the WAIT between being seen by one then another on the team was BRUTAL. 5 hours. So, bottom line, the care was very good but the amount of time it took and the layout of the waiting rooms and really unwelcoming entrance show the need of a serious overhaul. read more

The ER needs have a better flow for bringing in patients. The triage desk is good. But the ER is very dimly lit and quite depressing for injuries or sick people. Also I'm sure it's not the best for those working to admit patients at the triage desk or ER security. I sat with a colleague for almost 4hrs as a "fast track" patient that had an open wound. It wasn't until I asked someone who was looking for another patient,that had signed in but wasn't present, "How much longer would we have to wait as a fast tracked patient with injury?" After 10-15 mins we were brought to the back. Everyone was apologetic when we got to the back. The service and care that was given when we got to the back was top notch and everyone was accommodating and asking all the right questions several times. They also made sure to explain the next steps on what they were going to do. The biggest problem is getting in the back to see these great people. I like that they have "fast track" progress but it seems to only be a verbal "fast track" process? The ER process should be a 3 tiered process on how to bring in patients that come to the ER. read more

This was my first visit to Miriam Hospital and I can honestly say it was great. I recently went to Miriam for a Cardiac Catheterization , from the moment I walked in I was immediately put at ease. Liz who checked me in was incredible and put myself and my wife at ease. She told my wife once I was brought in if she needed anything to let her know. I was greeted by my nurses, cna's and NP like I was family. Once I entered the procedure room my Dr came introduced himself and explained the entire process. When I was done the Dr called my wife and explained everything. Shortly after I got back from the procedure my wife was escorted in by Liz and the nurses ands CNA's all welcomed her and introduced themselves. I'm returning in a couple weeks for another procedure and am already at ease thanks to my first encounter. read more

If you would like to experience what "medicare for all" would feel like, pay a visit to the miriam hospital's ED to find out. This place is repulsive and disgusting; the staff are rude, clearly untrained to be working at a public-facing organization, and are incompetent. Let's start with, who carpets hospitals? Especially the emergency department? The carpets are a hideous infectious disease monstrosity, and I have no idea how this hospital continues to pass inspection. They look disgusting, and I'm certain are equally disgusting because there's no way to appropriately clean them, especially after they've been puked and diarrhead on by very sick patients. EDs are one of the most trafficked areas in a hospital. There is nothing emergent about the care provided. I'm not sure if this is a Providence problem, or if Miriam hospital is just the bottom of the barrel but coming from a different state, when EDs are at capacity, they go on redirect. I.e. patients are sent to the other nearby EDs so that they are not sitting for hours, even if the other hospitals are not affiliated. We waited for 1.5 hours, not including the time we waited to "check in", which was about 30 minutes; the check in process was also a nightmarish joke on its own. After waiting 1.5 hours, I went to the window to ask the nurse if we've been called because we've been waiting for a while. Her response, and I kid you not, was "You've only been waiting for 1 hour and 20 minutes, the average wait time is 2 hours and 40 minutes". Who in the hell is training these people to interact with patients?! This is NOT HOW YOU SPEAK TO PATIENTS THAT HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR HOURS. As someone who works in medicine, this was unacceptable and unprofessional behaviour to the highest degree. Yes, the nurse may have no control over the wait time, but there is a way to speak to patients who have been waiting for hours. I cannot imagine that I or any of my colleagues have ever spoken to a patient like that. Again, I'm not sure if this is a Providence/Rhode Island issue, or if we picked the short end of the stick and ended up at the worst hospital in RI. I feel so sorry for people who have no other options but this hospital, because I left with my spouse (who by the way they thought he needed brain imaging to "rule out a stroke" but also felt that 1.5 hour wait time was not a problem because the average was 2 hours and 40 minutes). There was a lady who was groaning in pain to the point that she collapsed on the floor, crying and moaning. Guess what? Multiple nurses just walked past her, not a single word was said to her. Even the patients around were trying to help her but the bloody fools who are employed to give a rat's ass just sashayed their way back and forth like nothing was wrong with this picture. This place needs to be shut down. You cannot treat human beings like this. I've worked in medicine in 2 different states within the US, 3 European countries, and a third world country. I've never seen nursing staff act the way the people at Miriam hospital did. Even in the most resource-depleted setting, patients were treated with respect and dignity. If you have other options, go to a different hospital. After experiencing this hospital, I did not want anyone here touching my spouse with a 10 foot pool. This kind of behaviour can only be driven by pure incompetence, and incompetence in health organizations flows downward. The leadership here, including whoever the CEO and president are, have got to be incompetent, which leads to incompetent lower leadership, and incompetent staff. I cannot believe that this hospital exists in the United States. Even in the height of covid, I did not see anything like this. This hospital needs to be shut down, or the leadership needs to be overthrown because this is not acceptable under any circumstance. We live in the US, and this should NOT be happening! read more

Miriam was known as the best hospital in RI. I cannot agree. First of all the limited visiting hours are absurd. The front desk is rude! They talk to each other instead of waiting on visitors. They ask you to line up far away from their desk when checking in, like in elementary school. Why? Do they need a photo of visitors. Very little respect or courtesy shown to visitors. My husband had a knee replacement at 1pm. While staff there was pleasant & helpful, it seemed he spent far too long waiting to be moved to a room-4 hours in recovery & then waited until late morning for his first PT. Nurses on the floor were caring & attentive. I would not choose Miriam again & certainly don't feel it deserves any "best" accolades. read more

I've been visiting now 3 days and never once has anybody gone to my mother's room to say we had to leave it was 315pm when we where approached when question why the response was no one in the hospital from 1-4pm policy, OK so you have a policy not a good one at that ...first of all we where entered in at 1255 pm and should of been told by time we get to the floor it would be 100 pm and we would have to turn around and leave because of policy that would of been fine but that didn't happen it's not like people go to hospitals and know there policy as the want to change when it's convenient for the hospital because those 3 days that I've been visiting no one had enforced that policy and that same day being approached by security of policy 1-4pm the front desk was telling me another policy to wear a mask I was bewildered because 3 days in a row no one told me it was policy to wear a mask and I said that to the woman who was spitting her food at me while she was eating and trying to type on the computer...well I found that to be funny because no Dr that came into the room had a mask on or nurse .so where is that policy is that just for visiting? NO I DONT THINK SO .... SO MIRIAM HOSPITAL PLEASE respond to this review on how wrong I was to be treated in a rude way for your policy that your workers are not enforcing . I have to say what great care I've had at the cancer Institute at Miriam Hospital. Not only does Dr. Ollila has one of the best side bed manners I've ever seen, so are his staff. Physical therapy oncology 4th floor & few staff are incompetent negligence Criminals. Damaged her back, leaving her crippled, Dr. Martin covered it up by drogging her up, They left scissors underneath her body (poking & marking her legs). feces & urine were left in her room while she was eating her lunch on a daily basis. The main entrance check-in lady employee was obnoxious. (Supervisor Derrek apologized & corrected the issue professionally). The rude employee didn't apologize but corrected her manners. The rude employee accused & called security to fallow me around because I had a meeting with my attorney in the patient room. read more

Quality of care is unmatched! They get to the bottom of diagnosing posture and provide them with follow up steps and care. The best nurses ever. The waiting room in the ER can be crazy, which is unfortunately the case almost everywhere I've been, but once you are admitted it's smooth sailing. So grateful for their attention to detail for 2 extended stays over the last 5 years. read more

I came in due to extreme pain in my side. I know the first people in line are busy so I was very patient. Within about 15-20 minutes, they took my name but had me take a seat. Luckily my pain was subsiding. They got me into a room within an hour...which is amazing! I had the bloodwork done while waiting to be seen and the dr came in within a few minutes. I was taken for a ct scan, then brought back to the room. The wait wasn't too bad before the dr came in and told me the diagnosis. The nurse and staff were amazing! The dr was great! The only issue was I had to wait a good 1/2 hour to get an antibiotic pill before I could leave. I have been to Miriam years ago for meningitis. The care was just as excellent as it was back then. One thing I would suggest...this hospital E/R needs an upgrade or some paint to make it a little brighter. My son was in the hospital for a week and received great care but the parking situation was a nightmare. The valets have practically taken over the 2 public parking lots to the point that if you don't use the valet, you have to try to find parking on the street, which is very limited. My husband and I visit this hospital every week for his medical treatments and have noticed that the parking situation has got worse over the last few months. read more

I struggle with severe ptsd with hospitals and drs especially. I lost my leg from a Dr not listening when I was right after 13 yrs 66 surgeries to save the leg. 3 years misdiagnosed finally crohns. The Dr there really cared and listened and wanted to help. Honestly the reason it gets 3 stars. You wait 4 5 hrs go back see the Dr get told your going to get tests and medicine fluids. Then next thing you know they move you to a second waiting room. Get there and have other patients sa been there since 7 am this is 5 pm with no meds until in a room. Now I've been fighting to get a diagnosis instead of bandaid for 6 wks. What I have is causing crazy other issues. I've been diagnosed with 3 difthungs but never what's causing it. Then go home and withing hrs or a day it 2 crash lost 30lbs. Between dealing with all of this then thinking I'm finally going to get the answer to this womens been waiting here over 9 hrs and still waiting. At that point my anxiety was over the top there was no way I was making another 9 hr wait for fluids and nausea meds. I ended up leaving with no answers still. I'm at the point I'm going to treat myself online like I've done for past 2 years. read more

Mother was brought to Miriam by ambulance at 11:30 am with severe stomach pain possible bowel obstruction. Took blood and moved her to a room with a bed. 4 hours later still hasn't been seen by attending physician and was moved to a different room without a bed and told to sit and wait. She is 70 years old and has had a bowl obstruction in the past. No imaging done in this whole time. God forbid if this is serious and something could have been avoided due to there lack of care. My wife and I went there because my wife had an infection, and she went to see her doctor who told her she had to get to the emergency room, and be put on IV antibiotics right away. The doctor called the Emergency Room, and told them that we were on our way. We got there, and they had us sit in the waiting room for hours, even after we reminded the woman at the registration window, that my wife needed to be seen now! When she finally got brought into the she had 4 nurses and 3 doctors examining her because her cellulitis was so bad. She should never had sat in the waiting room for hours. She should have been put on IV antibiotics as soon as she got there, this is why her doctor called them and let them know she was on her way! The nurses and doctors were great once she was finally seen. Whoever is in charge of prioritizing patients needs to be fired. As far as visiting her the next day, that whole process is stupid! You have to wait in line, then they need your name and take a picture of you. I asked why they wanted to do that, and was told it started with Covid. I said really? We are still talking about Covid in 2024? I was an EMT for 10 years, I've brought many patients to Miriam, but they have definitely gone down hill. Like I said, once she was finally brought into the back, and also when she was put in a room ( she was admitted), they were all great. Learn how to prioritize patients, and realize that you work in a hospital, not a prison. You don't need my name and a picture for me to visit someone!!!!!! read more

My daughter checked in at 7:30 pm and was brought to triage and never seen again... We decided to leave at 2:15 am.. The hospital just now called her contact #s when they realized she wasn't where they left her... FUCKING joke... read more

So I've always had very good experiences while receiving care INSIDE the hospital. The ER waiting room however is a horrible place. It is dirty. The bathrooms are filthy. Yes I'm talking about feces splattered and stuck to the inside of the toilet due to someone who was evidently sick. This was left ignored and uncleared for hours. Also the restroom door does not lock. For real? After that I was sitting next to a very sick elderly woman who was vomiting on the floor. The poor thing had nothing to catch the vomit so I told the front desk and they brought over a huge trash can for her to expel into. Fortunately they took her in almost right away which was comforting. But that trash can stayed there right in the middle of the aisle with fresh vomit in it. As did the vomit that spilled onto the floor. Stayed there for hours. I'm not exaggerating. It was still there when I left the ER four hours later. When they took me in to get my vitals the very young, very snotty condescending girl with the very long hair and glasses treated me like I was some sort of low life. Just because I walk into the ER sweatpants and a sweatshirt on doesn't mean that I am an uneducated drug addict coming in off the street. Which is exactly how she treated me. After she took my vitals I asked her if I had a temperature. She looked me square in the face and cocked her head and said "everybody has a temperature" as if I was too stupid and ignorant to know that. So I looked at her and said I'm aware that we all have a temperature I was wondering if I have a FEVER. Clearly anyone on the planet would know what I meant but she took this opportunity to look down on me as if I was ignorant and uneducated, which I am not. Then she drew blood for the blood work and when she stuck me with the needle it pinched quite a bit for a brief moment and I yelped in pain. Now keep in mind I'm in the ER because I'm already in a tremendous amount of pain. (I later found out I had Covid). My "yelp" was just a knee-jerk reaction that I couldn't control because of the pain when she stuck me with the needle. So she says to me "please don't yell" I'm not yelling so you shouldn't yell". Basically talking to me like I'm a five year old. So I said "you're not the one who just got stuck with a needle". She persists and continues to be argumentative with me I told Her that she should really work on the bedside manner. Her response "I have a fantastic bedside manner". I don't mind saying that I wanted to grab her face and push her out of the room. (Obviously I didn't lol.). Then I'm sent back to the dirty run down waiting room. A while later I asked the front desk if I could have some Tylenol as my body was writhing in pain. Yet another snotty person behind the bullet proof glass said very snarkily, " you're in the waiting room we can't give you anything when you're in the waiting room". It wasn't what she said but the way she said it, dismissing me as if I was a petulant child. Thankfully when I did get into the ER they were very nice, very kind knowledgeable and accommodating. So while I do prefer the Miriam Hospital for care the ER waiting room is an absolutely hellish experience. I get it that these health care workers deal with a lot on a daily basis. And it's gotta be hard to deal with all types in the ER. But I don't appreciate being treated like I am trash. Thank you. And the disgusting uncleanliness? This is not the first time I've seen this in the Miriam ER waiting room. I was there last year when my son had a medication interaction and it was the same thing. Couldn't they at least have the bathrooms cleaned and the vomit cleaned off the floor? Just too disgusting for words. read more

My overall impression of Mariam is excellent staff, care, and resources. This is or was, a great hospital. I had such a poor experience in their emergency room. To make a long story short, I was seen in their emergency room this afternoon. I have an extensive heart history and have cancer (which has turned my world upside down). I had a doctor this evening who evaded me for two hours so could escape treating my pain. I'm saying hours in pain. Never came into my room to discuss it. Just ignored me. Marginalized me. This doctor hammered my mental health tonight. I felt like nothing when I left there. The rest of the staff was great read more

The nurses I had were awesome! Excellent care during my hospital stay. The emergency room and hospital were very busy but they were always pleasant and kind even though I know they must be short-staffed and tired. read more

My wife spent the last 3 days in the icc unit. The people were absolutely wonderful as was the medical attention she received.

If you ever need a gurney transport from your room to the heart cath lab at Miriam, Nicole and Andy are the ones to call. Many, many years ago I lived in Connecticut, my parents were visiting from Italy. To make it short, one afternoon I was in the ER for high glucose, I was admitted and during the night I was checked on by nurses who were nuns. In the morning my mother waited for me to wake up to tell how wonderful the nurses were during the night, she described them as floating angels. Miriram hospital now. I have been in the ER too many times and i can say,in all honesty, that the nurses are bitches from hell. No respect, no empathy, no help. I am highly suspicious about the five stars reviews I have read. I believe those reviews are written by nurses under suggestion by management read more

The leaders need to visit other hospitals and invest in their facility. The ER had 8 seats in a small waiting area and clearly not enough space for even the smallest surge in volume. They have no process in place to keep patients and families updated on wait times so you have no idea if you are going to wait 1,2,3 or more hours. It's disappointing that they don't know that patients deserve a far better patient experience. The nurses were nice though really need to visit hospitals that invest in 2022 healthcare. We can't keep saying it's because of COVID. read more
