The person who answers the phone is lovely, responds fast , and works with you, but unfortunately the move was another story. I confirmed the time of arrival the day before between 12-2pm, On the day of moving, which was from storage unit to my apartment ( in a different city ) the movers called me 9:50am , saying they were nearby. I was at least an hour away. I grabbed an earlier and more expensive train to try meet them. When I went to call them back, they did not answer their calls or respond to text message, I had to call the general office, to finally get a response from movers. This would have been okay , but when I finally met them at the storage unit, one of the movers, started to apologize then the guy in charge said multiple times to the other mover, "what are you apologizing for and why did he say sorry more than once" . Arrogant Now I'm officially pissed off. I had a cover for one of the few pieces of furniture , and despite me requesting multiple times to cover it , they just had it laying on the furniture , not taped , not tied, moving the item into and out of the truck. I used Charm City a few years ago, and wanted to finally leave a review. Positive: Felix is great to work with, she is quick to respond and works to get accurate info The men were on time and hustled One of the guys was able to take off the top of a bookcase to make it fight around a tight corner, and he was super nice about it. Negative: They knicked a piece of mine - they really didn't wrap anything. One of the fellows was a complainer, and made it very obvious how much he didn't like negotiating some of the tougher corners. If you don't carefully plan, you will be moving your own stuff, because they charge by the piece, not the hour. The second time I moved, about a year later, I went with a company that charged by the hour. They disassembled and packed everything - even my dining room table (a small 4-top). My futon was disassembled, wrapped, bunk beds apart, etc. I didn't have to worry about how many pieces I had. It took them longer, and did cost more, but after having that experience, it is worth it in my opinion to hire someone by the hour IF you are moving an entire home. If you are moving a few pieces, I highly recommend Charm City. I just found as a single mom, Charm City didn't work for me moving a home's worth of things. I needed to be able to add boxes or chairs and such and know that my things will be disassembled and reassembled at no extra charge. read more

We purchased a queen sleeper sofa that would not fit up our townhouse stairs, and the furniture store refused to help us. I called Charm City Movers and the office got right back to me. I scheduled an appointment and two days later, Quniton, Delvie, Jimmy and Squirl hoisted a very heavy sofa up onto our second story deck and into our family room. They took the screens off of our french doors and put them back on and helped us move a coffee table up from the basement. They were all very polite, introduced themselves and shook hands with me and my husband. Very nice people, clearly experienced and capable movers. Couldn't say enough good things about this company. The quote was accurate, the staff was friendly and efficient, the move was the easiest by far! They called to double check quote the day before, even adding that if I moved some of my stuff the quote would go down. The moving team showed up on time and all were incredibly professional and courteous. They moved everything -including oversized couches and a heavy exercise machine - down three flights of stairs without complaint. (A lot cheerier than I'd be, for sure) I'd previously gotten other quotes claiming the time would be over seven hours- charm city movers got everything out, loaded and into our new place (less than 10 miles away) in just 1.5 hours!! Not a scratch anywhere and they even helped with taking apart a bed. A few things had previous scratches or damage which they made sure to point out before and after the move. Great experience. While I had moved all the small stuff myself, Quentin and his crew did a great job of moving the big stuff, i.e., the furniture. The only thing that sustained any damage was a cheap IKEA piece, so no biggie...I would have been shocked if it hadn't gotten a bit damaged. Once the move was over and done with, there were a couple of small items I couldn't locate the next day. I texted Felix and she had the moving truck searched and the items were found and returned to me. Yay! The only downside to my move was that due to a snowstorm a couple of days prior, and due to some unexpected issues that came up in the move before mine that morning, the movers were much later than scheduled. However, Felix and Tammy kept in touch with me, updating me throughout the day. Felix also lined up a couple of extra movers to assist with making my move go quicker, since it was pushed back so late. I would absolutely recommend Charm City Movers to anyone moving! The only reason I knocked off a star is because they were an hour and a half late. Other than that, they were wonderful. Please see my review below, as I NEVER write reviews for anything so this is a major exception! I have never used a moving company before (except when my mom moved and they ripped her off) but this was a wonderful first experience. Before the move, I mostly talked with Felix, and she was great. Very nice and professional. I had to call/email her at least 20 times because I kept changing things around - adding things, deducting things, changing my moving date, etc. and she never seemed bothered by it. She even gave me her cell phone number the day of the move in case I needed anything - which I did, because I didn't know where my movers were and they also forgot to add an item to the list. I had a GIANT mirror that was about 50-75 pounds. It is my baby! They moved it with ease and there wasnt a scratch on it (as far as I know, right now I can only see through what I wrapped it with haha). Because I live in a row home in fed hill, I had to move THROUGH A WINDOW on the second floor! This is not easy and makes moving very difficult. They had no problem moving my bedroom furniture out the window. It was a small move but because of the window I thought it would be time consuming, frustrating, and difficult - because that's how it was when I moved in and had friends help. It took them about 40 minutes to get everything out and packed up in the truck. Needless to say, I am impressed and will definitely use Charm City Movers again!! read more

I have chosen not to use this company, but wanted to let people know why so they can be prepared. I've never heard of a moving company who charges extra to take furniture apart. It's only the bed frame, I already have all the tools, but it costs extra? I've used professional moving services several times and have never been charged extra for this service. They were prompt in responding, which is why I'll give them two stars. I just want everyone who is considering them to know this before they contact them. Felix was extremely prompt in answering my request for a quote and the process of getting a quote was so easy that I could take the call while I was at work. It was easily parsed so that I could see where I could save money by doing a Honda-load myself. Moses and crew showed up about 10 minutes early and got right to work -- a few little snaffoos were corrected and adjusted right away with no time lost, and no extra money spent. After weeks of researching movers, obtaining estimates and talking with the people involved, I chose Charm City Movers as my packing and moving company because they seemed sincere and genuine. Key statement, "seemed sincere!" I spoke with Chris originally and than a woman that uses the name "Felix" but also goes by another name with her co-worker. Anyways, my situation is somewhat of an exception on both ends. My fiancé was mentally ill and took his own life a little over three months ago. He was a collector of many things and somewhat of a hoarder. I explained EVERYTHING to both Chris and Felix multiple times. They put me at ease and made me feel confident that they were up for the task of assisting me in the rubble with an empathetic attitude. I was told I would be charged $14 per box, I imagined they would be standard medium to large boxes from The Home Depot (they told me they would be using The Home Depot boxes.) When Felix and her assistant showed up, I noticed they were using very small boxes, so I asked if those were $14 per, as well? I was told they were, but it was necessary for the ease of moving. I called BS and was able to repack in a medium box, weighed the box that Felix told me "probably weighs 100 pounds!" I asked what the weight limit per box is, she told me "50 pounds." I grabbed my scale, lifted the box onto it (I'm 5'4" and weigh 110 lbs.) She insisted her men would not be able to carry that box. Well, if I can lift it, pretty much anyone can. The box weighed exactly 36lbs!! I than said that I felt she was using the small boxes so I would be charged more. She went into a small tirade about how she couldn't believe how I "called her character into question!" I explained it wasn't personal and assumed it was just company policy. However, with the loss of a second income, and the financial burdens I have been met with, not to mention my emotional pain and trauma, I couldn't afford hundreds of boxes. She continued on her rant about money and her character for at least 20 minutes, in a rather loud booming voice. I finally said, when I could get a word in, "Felix, have you ever heard the term, 'Thou doth protest too much?" She immediately stopped her rant. Now, for the worst part of the experience... My fiancé, as I mentioned previously, took his own life in late August. Obviously he was mentally ill. I warned Felix on the phone yesterday that one of the rooms was going to be AWFUL and that, in my grief and depression, the whole place is kind of a mess. Not dirty, a couple of dishes in the sink, spotless bathroom; however, it's become difficult for me in my grief with two bulging discs in my back and multiple sclerosis, to be on top of things like I used to be. With my fiancé's mental illness came manic episodes of book, vinyl records and art collecting - in abundance! The spare room, which was where he maintained most of his carnage, is in disarray to say the least! I warned her multiple times. I was in front of my home, with her assistant, Sonya - very nice young woman; when we heard her going off about that room and complaining about "moving junk around for free!" She was talking to herself, but loud enough for me to hear! Sooo unprofessional! Every exchange I had with her was unprofessional! She made me feel awful about my fiancé and his illness and his death! She is the least empathetic and the most unprofessional person I have encountered in years!! The one star was for Chris, the owner or manager, because he was decent enough to give me a 50% break for all the small boxes and the undo stress and emotional distress this woman caused!! Now I'm left, in a more vulnerable state, to look for another packing and moving company! DO NOT USE CHARM CITY MOVERS! They are a rip off!! They told me $14 per box and it would be 35-40 boxes+/-. Felix is the one that gets paid for each box, so she shows up and starts packing all "small" (extremely small) boxes and than says, we're probably going to need at least a hundred!! I'm behind in my reviews, but I used Charm City Movers Nov. 11th 2017. I spoke mostly with Chris in scheduling my move. He was very understanding since I had just brought my house and the sellers were currently renting back from us I had trouble remembering how many steps were in the new house and other details he needed. In the end I was able to reserve the move day and contact him that week to nail down details. Send pictures and walk through your place listing every piece of furniture so you don't miss anything to mention. To cut down on costs we did move some things on our own but we found Charm City to have reasonable prices. We used Charm City for a good amount of boxes and the heavy lifting of furniture. They were on time and professional. It was a relief to have the movers, the truck and the driving all taken care of in one price. The only reason I dinged them one star is because there were only a few minor cosmetic dings on my walls from the bigger items being carried through. They were professional and fast it took a lot of mental and physical stress off me. I would without a doubt hire them again or recomend them. read more

This is my first time using movers (have done more than a dozen myself), and Charm City Movers did a fine job. They were incredibly fast; my stuff probably spent more time in transit from DC to Baltimore than it did being loaded and unloaded. They even figured out how to get a box spring into my third floor apartment when it looked like it wasn't making it's way in! My only concern at all is that they weren't as careful with my furniture as I would have been, and a few things were scratched up or slightly damaged. since we don't have expensive furniture and everything else was well packed, this didn't matter much. Otherwise I would have had to badger them to be a little more careful! Still, first time using movers, I am happy to use Charm City movers in the future. Customer service was wonderful and the quote was efficient. Someone called the day before to confirm. The movers arrived over a half an hour late, which to me isn't that bad of a hiccup. There were four movers. All of them complained the entire three hours of the move. It was extremely hot and there was quite a bit to move, but that is why I outsourced the work. For the cost of movers, I personally don't want to hear complaining. Even though I paid for a disassembly/assembly for a larger piece of furniture, the screws were left at the old house. Not a big deal I can put it together. When I did put it together one of the screws were stripped. Unfortunately the hardware store doesn't carry this screw and I have to order it from the furniture store. My wooden media center is scratched and cracked in the center. And my wooden bed frame is scratched. Devin T." THIS IS THE BEST MOVING COMPANY TO USE BALTIMORE. I've moved several times over the years and today, by a HUGE margin, utilizing Charm City Movers, was the easiest, most stress-free move that I've ever had. I received several quotes to move my belongings, I'm so glad I chose this company. My mom passed away recently and my brother & sisters sold her home alot quicker than we had anticipated; I was faced with moving my belongings as quickly as possible. Charm City Movers were able to schedule me promptly. The movers arrived on time, they RAN in and out of the house to expedite. The guys were sooooo careful with my belongings. I have a fair amount of family heirlooms and sentimental pieces; the guys treated all my things like Faberge eggs...they were so respectful and professional. All the guys on the team had such great personalities, they made me laugh during a time that is typically stressful. This was an emotionally charged move for me, closing the door on my childhood home. My move was extremely strenuous for the guys. I had a gym that I had disassembled, but the weight stack weighed 250 pounds. It wasn't just the weight that it made it such a challenge, it was how bulky it was. Nevertheless, they put rugs down on the hard wood floor and protected the walls when they hauled that behemoth piece out. They moved my belongings into a storage facility, transporting from Silver Spring, Maryland to Cockeysille, Maryland. Our move was in the middle of the day, and as fate will have it and due to it being Construction Season in Baltimore, one lane of the beltway was shut down, causing quite the traffic jam. I had left my moms home before the moving truck...and amazingly, they arrived at the storage place before I did. They had the carts, blankets, and my gym off the truck as I was pulling into the parking lot. I can't say enough good things about this company. Even before the movers arrived- I received impeccable customer service from Tammy through phone and email while getting ready for the move. On moving day- Mark, Quintin, and Cooley came fully prepared for the move and ready to go. They reviewed in detail every item to be moved before they started and paid attention to detail to point out pieces of furniture that already had marks on them, etc. I have never seen guys move so fast- 20 minutes to load, 20 minutes to drive, and 20 minutes to unload. Even though they moved quickly, they were still professional, had great attitudes, and were careful with my belongings. We used Charm City Movers for our recent move from a fourth floor apartment to a townhouse. The crew, numbers 7, 27, 11, 24 arrived exactly at the scheduled time and carefully reviewed the items to move with us. There was no elevator in our apartment building so it was a big task to get all our furniture and boxes down to the truck but the crew jumped right in and was incredibly efficient and professional. All of our fragile items and furniture arrived at our new home in perfect condition. All four of the guys were very polite and easy to work with. All in all, the whole process took only two hours, which given the amount of stairs involved, was really amazing. I also was impressed with the folks who work in their office who made the contract process very simple. All of the boxes were packed the same way and the only people who moved the boxes were the movers. The boxes could have been placed down too hard without showing any visible damage to the boxes. One of the boxes in question had some damage to one of the top corners. Felix continues to blame me for the damages because of the way I packed them as stated in her response. If that were true, since all of the boxes were packed in the same way, you would assume all of the glasses, dishes, etc. would have been damaged. I hired Charm City Movers because I thought they were professional and responsible instead of hiring random people with trucks. The results were very upsetting and disappointing. I still have heard nothing from the company owner or anyone else there. Buyer beware. read more

We had a mixed experience with Charm City Movers. Felix and Tammy were wonderful in helping us set up and schedule the move. We also used the packing and unpacking services, which were fantastic (more details below). Our packers were thoughtful, careful, very efficient, and lovely people to deal with. I would highly recommend the packers. Three movers initially came to pick up all the stuff and load it into the truck. They were great -- fast, easy to communicate with. There was some miscommunication however between the packers and the movers: the number of boxes reported by the packers was (supposedly) not the same as what the movers counted (off by about 20 boxes). This wasn't a big deal and the movers were happy to accommodate, however it would be nice for them to communicate better since it was supposed to be a full service move. The movers were also supposed to bring 2 extra boxes and wrap the pictures and clothes. They didn't bring boxes and didn't wrap the clothes or pictures carefully - the clothes got dirty and had to be laundered, and several picture frames broke. More importantly, when we arrived at the destination, 3 additional movers appeared out of nowhere, unannounced, and did not introduce themselves. What had begun as a calm, efficient, pleasant experience turned into chaos. All of a sudden there were 8 people in the house instead of 3, and they were yelling at me from all different rooms to ask where to put things, instead of following the notes that the packers had so carefully written on the boxes. They were moving so quickly and carelessly without piling boxes on top of one another, that the rooms began filling up leaving no room for the furniture. Compared to the orderly packing and move-out, it was a mess. The packers tried their best to help direct, but with 8 people it was just impossible. Additionally, one of the three new men who showed up seemed to want to take charge - he tried at several points to convince me that I didn't actually want the packers to finish unpacking, because they would just be putting things on the floor. I tried to tell him that even if they didn't put things away, it would be helpful to have them unpack the boxes and take away the packing materials. I had discussed this with Felix and we agreed that it would be helpful. For some reason this man (who's name I still don't know and I was honestly too busy trying to respond to the 8 people shouting questions at me to ask him) persisted in trying to convince me they shouldn't do all the unpacking - I am guessing he was late for another job and trying to end early? He also made several off-color jokes, was yelling and singing loudly throughout the house, and mocked one of the packers because she had a foreign accent. After he told me for the 4th time that I should agree to not having them unpack the rest of the boxes, I gave in, mainly because he was so unpleasant that I was ready for him to leave. He did give us a discount for the boxes that were not unpacked, however he underestimated by about 15 boxes, so we ended up paying for a service that we did not receive. I was appalled by this man's behavior. It was my understanding that the packers would put items back in the places they originally found them in, or on top of tables and counters - and they did an excellent job with this the kitchen (which they finished), but because this man rushed them out, they did not have time to do the other boxes. I am starting a new job and was hoping Charm City Movers could ease the transition, but because of the way this man interfered, I am still looking for things in boxes. While I had a great experience with Tammy, Felix, and the packers, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this company for a full service packing and moving job, and I very much hope they train their employees (or, really just the one) to be more respectful. read more

The movers showed up on time and moved my furniture quickly and efficiently- no complaints about that. However, I am annoyed by the lack of professionalism of the movers. From the moment the movers arrived, the driver let us know his displeasure that he had to move furniture from my former apartment complex, which has narrow stairs. According to the movers, my count of the number of staircases was apparently not accurate (very hard to estimate in my former complex, since the layout is like a maze), so the movers told me they'd add an extra charge or "I could treat the boys well." I was astounded. This is NOT professional behavior and puts the customer in a very uncomfortable position. All in all, I ended up paying $75 extra for my move (seemingly an arbitrary charge decided on by the driver) because I couldn't stomach the idea of handing money under the table to people who asked me for a tip. CCM should have a policy in place to deal with situations like this in a fair manner instead of leaving customers at the mercy of the movers. I do not normally write reviews, but I wanted to offer my view since it differs from many of the more positive reviews on Yelp. CCM has failed to cultivate my repeat business, and I will be looking at other moving companies when I move again for medical residency in two years. read more

Charm City just moved us yesterday and it was the best moving experience we have ever had. The customer service was beyond excellent and the movers were extremely courteous and skilled. We also had them pack our kitchen the day prior and I highly recommend that! I have moved many times in my life, and this is the only time there has been no unexpected charges, no problems, no attitudes, no mix ups. These are very good, classy, genuine people! Seriously disappointed in Charm City Movers. I requested a quote to load my already packed 1 bedroom apartment into a Uhaul that I provide. Just load...nothing else...and they quoted me $952!!! This is an outrageous amount of money for this small of a job. My apartment even has an elevator so it's not like they would be going up and down stairs. Ridiculous. read more

The people in the office were great! They made me feel like everything was going to go smoothly. I was told that they would send their best movers. If that was their best, I would not want to use their worse. While the movers were on time, they did not take care at all in loading the truck. They stacked things haphazardly in the truck until I ask for them to stack evenly. I asked for a quote of additional items to be moved. Instead of calling the office they said I could pay them in cash. I was uncomfortable since they were handling all of my items. So I paid them the amount for each driver. It would have been cheaper per piece. They were shady to say the least. My things did get moved, I would not recommend them. If only the movers had the same customer service mindset as those in the office. After reading the other review, I see the owner states he doesn't know who this person is and that we could have come to him. Our move was on 7/31/15. We had zigs and zags in the process - changes in the move time, steps vs. elevator, elevator reservation times, more stuff than originally listed...and then more stuff again! Through it all you were pleasant and the process was seamless - even though I dealt with 3 different people in the office! And then the move itself...we were panicking...you were calm and reassuring. And the moving men were wonderful! Polite, cheerful...never a complaint even though the new apartment is a nightmare location for movers!! And talk about quick and efficient. We could not be more disappointed with the services provided by charm city movers. To start, one of the reasons we selected charm city movers was because their company is marketed as "licensed and insured." The day of moving, we thought everything had gone well until we soon discovered multiple issues. The movers had damaging our walls, floors and furniture. We had tipped them generously for their help and they never once mentioned that there were any damages. They hit a wall hard enough to knock off the drywall so that the metal lining of the wall was exposed. Instead of acknowledging the damages and offering to rectify the issue, they cleaned up debris and left without mentioning their mistake. On top of that, there were two rips in one of our chairs. When we called the company to have the furniture and walls fixed, they advised that they are only insured for 60 cents/pound. So our $1200-30lb chair is only insured for $18. They came back to fix the chair but instead of reupholstering it, they glued the fabric back together. Please learn from our mistake and use a company that is fully insured. read more

The whole process with Charm City Movers has been a delight. From the scheduling process, to my many calls to make adjustments, and finally the moving day - everything went smoothly. Everyone was friendly, efficient and professional. On the morning of the move I received a call 15 minutes before my appointment time to inform me the truck was in route and would arrive at 8am. The movers came in introduced themselves and went over my inventory. They started right away and loaded our two bedroom apartment in less than 45 minutes. They even helped load items into our cars. Thankfully our moving destination was literally around the corner so they were parked and unloading before I even locked up the apartment to meet them. They were extremely attentive in placing items in the correct rooms, being careful of freshly painted walls, and new flooring. They even moved boxes to the storage area of our basement upon my request. They moved so quickly all I could do was stand there awestruck lol. Finally they checked over everything and had me do the same. They even brought to my attention a piece missing from a bed post which was missing prior to the move. Attention to detail, professionalism, and efficiency definitely deserved tips and we did so accordingly. No add ons to the price but budget in a tip. We won't be moving anytime soon but I will recommend this company to my family, friends, and colleagues. read more
