Was not upfront about all fees/charges. If you are considering using this business, I urge you to read the owner's responses to negative customer reviews; you'll find an insecure person who gives little thought to her customers (probably because she's too busy writing nasty, snarky, mean responses to customer complaints). Welcome to the longest review I've ever written; however, as the owner said to my mother - I'm not going to let false claims go unchecked. My BFF only booked this place because it was the only one with availability for our group of 5 - and we quickly found out why they had openings after our appointment. It was very underwhelming and one of the most expensive mani/pedi I have ever gotten. This would be fine, but you pay premium dollar without the kind of customer experience I would expect when I'm paying this kind of money. What we received was really an overpriced express service. On top of the roughly $800 for 5 mani/pedi (this includes tip), plus $75 clean-up fee, she also charged us an extra $50 a person ($250) which was not communicated at all ahead of time, nor is it advertised on her website. It was a special day, so my BFF just paid it and didn't say anything. My mom was especially disappointed, and made it known in 3 sentences on Yelp. The owner responded very unkindly to my elderly, disabled mother, and ended her nasty reply with that she wished her "a better attention span." My mom is in her 70s and is disabled, you'll tell her something multiple times in a 20-minute period and she just doesn't remember (having brain lesions tends to do that to someone). She literally can't "have a better attention span." That's what disabled is. Keep this in mind this as this is how the owner treats senior people with disabilities. She also claimed to my mom, "Your daughter had a great time, and we went out of our way to make her feel cared for." That was me, and I didn't feel you went out of the way at all. I sat on the side and was barely acknowledged for quite awhile, and was not even offered something to drink while I waited for my turn. I actually felt the opposite of cared for. Offering even some water at the start of an appointment really sets the tone; this is a pretty low bar to set, and this salon couldn't even meet that. She also told my mom we were 30 min late...the first person showed up 9:55am, and the last person (me) showed up at 10:14am. I know because my phone records my location and date/time. I will own up to the lateness, but it was NOT 30 min late. She sent a nasty email to my BFF, who had nothing to do with the review my mom wrote. I find this to be HIGHLY unprofessional behavior. It would have probably been better to ask, "I see someone in your party was unhappy, what could we have done differently/better?" Had she reached out kindly, we probably could have resolved everything; however, using her own words - if she spent half as much energy listening to her customers as she does writing snarky replies to negative reviews, we wouldn't be here. You'll find going through her responses to others, she doesn't take customer inputs/criticism at all and insecurely spends an inordinate amount of time responding in a very defensive manner. She will tell you "We have been in business for 10 years so we must be doing something right!" I would pay double for a pedicure, if it was accompanied by amazing customer service, which is why I shop at Nordstrom and Patagonia. They are amazing. Having said this, clearly this company is MORE INTERESTED IN THEIR REVENUE and NOT THEIR CLIENTS. I am happy to spend a small portion of my big pay checks at other businesses that treat their customers with respect. Charme stays in business by taking advantage of their clients. Personally, I think the whole no water thing is a gimmick...not having to pay money for water & electricity to run salon chairs saves Martina LOTS OF MONEY, but their prices are among the highest in Tacoma. Life is unpredictable and full of surprises and if a business owner can't empathize with that, then I don't want DO SPEND MONEY on a business THAT DOESN'T put people first. After 10min into my manicure, I changed my mind to only get a manicure and they said there's a 24hr cancellation policy so I was locked into also getting a pedicure (but I just walked in?). I'm mainly upset that my nails look stubby, short, and dry. Both the manicure and pedicure did not involve water (dry pedicure) and there's no added benefit ie lotion, massage, water/tea, etc. They did have a wine/cocktail/beverage bar, but I wasn't offered anything. The employee in charge of booking could use some staff development in customer service. I booked an appointment on Nov 17 for service on Dec 5th. On Nov 28th I received a text that their system glitched and I would need to reschedule. I was pretty bummed and asked if the other customer had been asked about rescheduling. She let me know that it was a group booking who booked in October. Understandable. I let her know I wasn't trying to be difficult and could reschedule to the week before but also asked if this was typical. I felt like her response of "as we stated it was a glitch" was a snarky "as per my last email". I let them know that I understood the glitch but that didn't acknowledge whether or not it is common and thanked her for reaching out. She responded with "Specifying it was a glitch should suffice. But you seem super concerned so I went ahead and cancelled your appointment". All for small business and the owner's model seems great but a simple "sorry for the inconvenience this doesn't typically happen" would have "sufficed." Darn. Was looking forward to trying this place but I'll just stick with La Bella (also in Proctor). Edit: Updated with the full text exchange. Decided to try a "dry pedicure" for the first time. Website states how much better of a pedicure you get when your feet don't soak up water. Direct quote from their website "A better pedicure in which the nail tech can address problem areas (such as calluses and rough skin) as they will be visible when feet aren't saturated" As you can see from the picture the amount of scrubbing they do on your feet is a joke. She did not remove any of the dead skin or calluses. I get pedicures religiously and my last pedicure was 13 days ago, so there was not a large build up dead skin. I paid for the top pedicure. I've been going to Charme for years with my husband and our daughters. Martina and her staff are absolutely amazing! I initially looked into Charme because of the waterless services and appreciated how hygienic everything is. No matter which staff member I see, I always end up happy with my results. I also know that if for any reason I wasn't happy, all I would have to do is talk to Martina about it and she would take care of it. But, several years in and that hasn't happened yet! The staff really seems like a family and as a small business owner myself, I appreciate how protective Martina is of her staff. Over the years I've seen people complain about having to pay for their missed session, but we have to enter our credit card when we book the appointment and check off that we agree to that stipulation. There shouldn't be any surprises there unless you failed to read what you agreed to. but it's the no-shows to appointments that would understandably cause issues when they are by appointment only. EDITED TO ADD: The owner's response says all you need to know about this place. RUN! This is a cute studio, but it's not for everybody. I've been here several times for manicures, as I was looking for natural nail care for my damaged post dip powder nails. The services that are offered here are pretty good, especially if you're looking to strengthen your nails. I was happy with the outcome of my first few manis. The last manicure I had included a more sheer polish, and it came out pretty uneven and lumpy. Since structural gel nail polish was used on my nails first, it limited the number of coats of color I could use. I wasn't told this. They only used one coat of the color I wanted. When I contacted the owner/manager, she immediately defended the lumpy and uneven polish application (saying that's what happens with sheer polish ) and then offered to put on another coat of the sheer polish. I asked if I could just do a similar opaque coat instead. Silence...she just books me for a nail repair for the next day. I come in the next day and I don't get that cheerful "Hi Brittany!" That I got every other time. LOL. My tech asked her if she could do an opaque color over my sheer nails and instead of answering directly or explaining, she just went and got the same sheer color and painted my nail. It was weird and passive aggressive. The nail tech was super sweet! I am very sensitive to changes in energy and the manager/owner's energy was cold after a simple request for a color fix. I don't know why service providers can't accept that something went wrong. She could've easily kept me as a customer if she approached the problem even slightly different. I am a newer customer of Charme - have been in twice for a mani and/or pedi and twice for training sessions. Every time I have left more than satisfied with the services I've had done. I was skeptical of the whole waterless pedi - would it be as good or relaxing as a "typical" pedi at another salon? I'm here to tell you - yes, yes it is. Had one yesterday and was so relaxed that I almost fell asleep in the chair - win, since relaxing is definitely what I needed! I can't stop looking at my mani either - I had a newer technician but she took her time to make sure everything was perfect. The vibe in the salon is super chill, the music is always good and Martina (owner) is always very attentive to anything going on and is ready to help her staff if they need it. Every time I've had a service, she personally came over to take a look so I am 1000% certain that if there was an issue, she would have made it right then and there if asked. I'm new to the area and saw this place and thought I would check it out given the 4.5 star rating. Unfortunately, it was probably one of the worst manicures I have received. I treated myself to the Charme mani and pedi and it was less than charming. While the treatments were fine, the actual polish and shaping was done incredibly poorly. After 1 day, I had layers of gel polish peeling up, the edges were not shaped well and every nail has uneven polish and bumps. Even my husband said something, and I'm lucky if he notices when I get my hair done lol. I reached out to the salon directly about a refund and never heard back so I figured the least I can do is warn others. I spent $186 and have the worst mani pedi to show for it. read more

People come here to give honest feedback on business's, food, services, etc. Not a single thing on my review was aimed at accusing you or your techs of anything, it is honest feedback, proven with photos. In fact, I even stated in my first review that I was not even sure if I can blame your salon/products for the reaction, I just simply stated that maybe those with sensitive skin should steer clear given that I had what felt like a burn all over my legs. I have been getting regular manicures and pedicures for over 20 years, I have rarely had polish applied this poorly, and have never ever ever had a skin reaction like this...For $138 I should not have to point out crappy polish application, you should take notice of the work you are doing and fix it. This is not hard to see. I also should not have to return to a salon again to have it fixed. I tipped 20% because I am not a jerk and this very kind woman spent time on my service. But it is silly to think ANYONE would leave a positive review on the polish application or skin reaction. I am really sorry this review upset you as badly as it seems to have, that was not my intention. I am glad that you can see that your service was not up to par, I appreciate the acknowledgment of that. Take good care, neighbor. My cuticles are dry and rough to the touch and while this is not their fault per se, I think I should warn people with sensitive skin, I have a rash up to my knees from my pedicure today. I have been getting pedis for many many many years and haven't ever had this happen- again- I don't think I can really fault the salon for this, but one would hope that they were using hypoallergenic stuff? Idk maybe they are but my skin did not agree and is very painful to the touch, just took two Benedryl and placed a cold towel on my legs to calm the stinging, redness and swelling. I really wanted to love this place. I love the idea of a waterless pedi and mani - and they are a very nice group of women. But my god, I've NEVER paid this much for a mani/pedi and had the result look this bad. I am incredibly disappointed that the owner is inferring in her response that I changed my story when I spoke to them to reschedule and when they contacted me to say I'd be charged in full 4 hours after the fact. My parents - who is my son's grandparents - is my child care - had COVID. I provided the same explanation for my reschedule but it appears the staff were not actively listening or simply can't remember after a week, which I will not fault them for that as I am sure they are quite busy. However, instead of taking responsibility for your staff not being educated on your policies you are choosing to lay blame on the customer. It is no fault but the owners to train their staff and ensure they communicate effectively to your customers, especially if you do not have a formal receptionist. This confusion and clarity could have been provided when I first called, not 4-5 hours after the fact. Your inflexibility for your staff's miscommunication should not make the client suffer. I went today with a friend I asked to go with me - and she picked Charme. We went to hang, and I needed a little self care- I've been stressed with a sideways home remodel. Charme was was great- clean, smelled nice, and calm. Shannon was the nail professional (I'm not sure the specific term for her role) who took care of me. Dang she was great! I came for a lil hand/arm massage, and help repairing my nails and cuticles I've been torturing. She was cool- easy to talk with, she reminded me to stop picking at my nails when stressed and was down to earth. Just what I needed. Seems like people often go for nails, gels, design- but I didn't want that today- and she didn't care- she wanted to provide me the service and care I needed today. So far, I've had a gel manicure & pedicure, eyebrows, and lashes done here. I swear, I'm gonna end up working so I have the cash to keep going back. I absolutley hate the atmosphere in standard nail salons. Charme is the total opposite. I think they have a total of 3 or 4 spots for mani/pedis. That in itself says a ton to me. I'm not a fan of pedicures -- having someone at my feet is really weird for me. I went to Martina a few times back when she used to work for La Bella and always liked her work there, but once she left I stopped going all together because the quality really went downhill. I was so excited even I realized this was her salon. She didn't personally do my nails this time but I was still happy because the salon was beautiful and clean and the work was detail oriented just like her. No matter how great the work, it doesn't matter if I see dust everywhere and there is nothing more disgusting than seeing a tech finish a pedicure on someone and then try to use the same tools on you. I have seen that happen time and time again everywhere else. Everything here is autoclaved and opened right in front of you and they even give you the file and buffer they used to take home giving me peace of mind that I'm not going to walk away with an infection. All in all my manicure took nearly two hours but that was ok for me because the tech was so detail oriented and careful unlike a lot of other salons that rush through. I have been cut so many times before elsewhere because the techs were so rushed! The color selection here was something else with over 400 colors to choose from! I came here last Saturday for Bijou Gel Manicure and an eyebrow wax. First, I HIGHLY recommend Brigitte for your waxing needs. She took time to map my eyebrows out with me, talk me through her process, and checked in with me every step of the way to make sure I was still happy with them. Plus, she has an amazing personality and was super fun to chat with. I give her a full 5 stars! Unfortunately the manicure is where I have to leave 3 stars instead. When I came in, they had just opened the shop (I actually was a few minutes early, but they let me come in anyway, I really appreciate their hospitality). I was a bit worried when I saw the reviews stating they had bad experiences with the employees, but I found everyone to be very kind and friendly! I had never had a dry manicure, and the employee who worked on my nails was very educational and I learned a lot. I'm impressed with their cleanliness and knowledge. My issues come from the price I paid vs the manicure I got. When I booked, the website said the Bijou Gel Manicure is 45 minutes, and it includes nail shaping, light cuticle care, and gel polish application. While I got what I booked, the process only took about 20 minutes. I was surprised at how fast everything went as I thought it would be the full 45 minutes. Multiple people came in after me, and I wonder if my appointment was rushed in order to cater to everyone. While my manicure looks nice, I don't believe it was worth the $50 price. It's now Tuesday (4 days later) and some color is already beginning to chip and lift. There's also a lot of dead cuticle tissue around my nails still. I guess I was just expecting a better quality with a $50 price tag. Overall, I did enjoy my time at Charme as everyone who worked there was so kind to me. I am a long time customer of Charme. I was just reading through some of their reviews, and ran across the review and several update reviews by Sally M. I agree that her fingernail top coat had something wrong with it, but it sounds like it was noticeable before she left the salon. Why not mention it to the owner or the nail technician that did your pedicure before leaving the salon. Martina would have ensured that was corrected. She is a successful business owner, and believes in good customer service. As for the allergic reaction on your legs, anyone can have a allergic reaction from anything while visiting any type of business. If you are having an allergic reaction it might be best to see a Allergist to help identify your allergies. If you had a reaction to the sugar scrub, it would be best to let find out what the ingredients are and tell your doctor. It is also not a good idea to shave your legs right before a pedicure, especially one that includes sugar scrub. And if the reaction was so serious why not go to your doctor and find out what it is from before inferring that it was the product used on you that caused it. I honestly don't comment on reviews, but I enjoy my visits to Charme and all the employees. I know how people can turn words around. I would hate for Charme to lose clients for this type of review. Martina is a strong person, and knows all there is to know about safely running a nail salon. And, I know for sure that even if you didn't have the time yo remedy your issues before you left the salon, Martina would have offered you a time to come back asap and have repairs done so that she had another happy customer. read more
