I tried their TV with Internet and started having Outages. Went back to Internet Only ..... Which is one Speed and right now they are the only provider in most of Asheville providing over 3-6 Mbps and they price it as such. read more

So far, I have run into no problems with Charter. I currently receive my cable and internet package from them and they made the dreadful setup process a breeze. In addition, when I received a faulty cable receiver, I just ran to their office and they conveniently gave me another. The Charter office seems like it would be a dreary place to visit, but it's really not all that bad! I understand that Charter has some nasty reviews, however, I have received really great customer service through them! When I go into the office, they promptly fix my problem and are really friendly! The prices really aren't all the bad and compared to the internet package I used to have, the connection is A LOT faster. Count your blessings people. read more

It won't let me give less than 1 star. I pay $60 per month for only Internet and it works about 20% of the time when I'm actually home which is only about 3 hours a night. It bounces off constantly or just plain didn't work at all. But man will they be blowing up your phone if you are close to your payment date. Never had a problem with Comcast. On installation the guy told me to expect it to bounce around because of the other wifi but I lived in a condo before and no issue. I need to work from home and I'm planning a wedding and basically cannot rely on it. Comcast please come here, your cs sucks but at least your service works! read more

Absolutely, positively, NEVER do business with this company. They are the most unreliable company I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. For the FOURTH, yes, fourth time, they have begged me for my business account and then after agreeing to it, decided I wasn't serviceable. Every single time they reach out to me, I remind them that in the past they sign me up then come back and tell me we are not in a serviceable area (despite being in the middle of town in a 30 business shopping center). We receive mail from Charter at least weekly. Phone calls at least monthly. This last time, the lady I talked to assured me that they were expanding into our area. I told her LAST time they told me THE SAME THING. Once again, she assured me they can service me. Well, guess what, I got an email today telling me I'm not in a serviceable area. On a previous supposed install, four years ago, they literally never showed up. I called, they apologized and rescheduled, and they didn't show up again!!!! The only reason I was going to take a chance with them again, is our internet through ATT is so stinking slow. I will absolutely not give them a chance again. On a personal account level, I used to have Charter. I moved, took the service with me, and six months later got collections calls from a collection agency saying I had an unpaid bill. I called Charter, asking them how I have a past due bill when I have CURRENT service through them. They told me I didn't pay my last bill from my previous address and they didn't have my new address to send a bill to (despite I had CURRENT service through them at the new address) That took months to clear up. Months. I switched to UVERSE. A few years later, after my intro period with ATT was up, I contacted Charter to see if they had a better deal. They did. That was, until they came to my house and refused to get into crawl spaces or attics to do the install. I was told their technicians were not required to do so and if I wanted Charter, they would have to run the wires up the face of my two story house to each of the five rooms that had tv's. UM, no. I cancelled then and there. A couple years go by. A door to door guy comes by. Swears Charter has changed, they have improved their service and if I would give them yet another chance, he would even give me his personal cell phone line for contact. I told him the previous issue with the installers. He promised they were no longer difficult to work with. Two weeks later, after not hearing from him, I called HIM. He told me they still won't ask their employees to go in attics and crawl spaces and I would still be required to run five lines down the front of my house to get their service. Don't be me. Be smarter then me. Do not waste your time with this kind of company. They are dishonest, disorganized, and unreliable. Hands down THE WORST company I have ever dealt with. read more

After countless calls to get a new cable run (see previous review) and numerous conversations with probably everyone that works for the whole company that I request a call as to when they will come and bury a new line as I have irrigation. Well as I came home guess who was there digging...yup Charter "Spectrum" I stopped and said no one called and the guy says they never call anyone I said well I am so sorry but I requested it many many times as I have irrigation and low and behold they had already cut the lines!!!! I called charter and the lovely (NOT) lady that answered was not helpful at all and when I asked to peak with a manager she said "What do you think you will gain by speaking with a manager?" I said excuse me? She replied "what do you think you will gain from speaking with a manager that I can not help you with?" I said look - It would be in your best interest to get a manager on the phone with me NOW! - she did - Spoke with a manager "Joel" who was very helpful and apologetic and also looked back on account and saw the numerous people that I have spoken with requesting service and that never placed a work order and assured me that he would handle them and this situation I also asked him to add the lovely lady to that list that transferred me to him and told him what she said. He said WOW! After completion today - they repaired irrigation line and everything finally does work (mind you original line had never been buried as they have said since 2006 (yes 12 YEARS) that they would send someone out. Since the ORIGINAL call on 2/1/18 the people in billing told me to call them after the work has been completed for a refund, so I did today... they said they have no notes to say I had no cable from 2/1/18 to justify giving me a refund and only can give me a refund for 4 hours for today. I said absolutely NOT that is BS and why am I the one to pay for your companies lack of intelligence and work ethic I cant see nor make them do their job. this is absolutely BS and I told them the only reason Charter is still surviving is because there is no other cable company to choose from! (if there was they would be EXTINCT!) I did hand up on her and called back to a different department and this man (Simon) said he would put in a request to cash management and call me back within 3 days. WE SHALL SEE. Charter Spectrum is the worst cable company and treats customers like crap - Some of the people that answer the phones sound drunk or high and when asked to spell their name because they speak slurred they say I can not tell you how to spell my name...really? Decent Internet Service, it has been reliable which is why I am giving 3 stars. The speed advertised is pretty accurate most of the time and my connection has been very stable. I only had one issue with modem going out of spec/rebooting but it was a problem with the main line not my house and they had it fixed the next day. Their techs/linemen are great people. Problem is there are not enough speed tiers and the lowest tier is just too expensive. Seems like Charter would keep customers longer if they had better non-promo pricing. They offered to give me another promo if I "bundle" but I am not interested in paying for things I don't need and will likely never use. I don't think I am the only person that is tired of overpaying for Internet. Promo ends next month and I'll probably switch to another ISP due to cost reasons. read more

Shifty business practices. I started by paying $39.99/mo just for Internet. I was solicited by Charter to try out their phone service which is VoIP and built into their cable modem. They promised me a private number that wouldn't show up on caller ID. I thought it would be a good idea to have a home number just for family so we don't wouldn't need to lug cell phones from room to room in the house. My monthly bill would go up to $59.99. My major concern was whether I could cancel anytime and go back to what I was paying before. I expressed this concern and was assured by the Charter solicitor that I could cancel anytime and go back to paying $39.99/mo. I tried the phone service for a few months and not only was the voice quality poor but I defininitely showed up on others' caller ID. I called Charter multiple times to have them fix it but they always seemed to have a problem with the system being "down" and just ended up wasting my time. Eventually, I gave up and asked to cancel. They told me if I canceled the phone, that I would then pay $59.99 just for Internet. As in, I'd be paying the same exact price whether I cancel the phone service or not. Apparently the $39.99/mo Internet was a promotion and their "computer" is unable to put me back onto that promotion, because "that's just how the computer system works" I was told by a supervisor. TL;DR, Charter succeeded in duping me into their junky phone service, assuring me I could cancel and go back to what I paid before, then balked on their promise and forced my Internet cost up 50% because that's "how their system works." If Charter's "system" is devised to rip off customers because they are the only cable Internet provider in town, then they have succeeded. read more

When we moved here and started setting up house, I saw the 2009 Cons. Rpts. listing cable companies. Charter was at the bottom of the list. We were warned by various people not to get them and we did. I'd say we loathe them. The techs. and many supervisors are rarely knowledgeable and the supervisors and phone reps often refuse to transfer us to a supervisor. CLANG - hang up and call again. The problems are almost constant and we have the package with HBO, etc. In 2010, we began the journey by contacting the NC Attorney General. They just sent my letters to Charter's lawyers who literally defended each letter. That was worthless. Each year I dread keeping the service. Each year, I want to toss their horrible system into the street and have them run over by a cement packing machine. But I'm one of two people here. We've had ongoing problems since last Sept. They still exist and aren't as bad but we're not getting the service we wanted - something that works. Our landline has gone out, internet periodically crashes (and it's random times, so not due to a flood of people using it), DVR - the new one is garbage and will need to be replaced. The older one at least recorded programs consistently. We are exploring other options. Jim C. - bait and switch would be enough for me to give them a 0 rating because it's really slimy. Why NC has allowed it to go on is obviously for the money they make. That puts the consumers six feet under. It's horrible. Now, pls. go read the other posts here by the other consumers or ex-consumers because at one time or another, we've had the same thing happen (except a 12 hour outage but sometimes we just give up counting). I never did a review in my life, but this is a special occasion indeed. I have never had a worse cable service in my life. I don't even want to watch my tv anymore. Instead it's just easier to watch it Netflix on my IPAD. I went from 70 inches to 8 inches. The service is great. Nice and polite but this ¥#£%€% remote control is the worst POS I have ever seen. 4 different calls and got 4 different responses on how to fix it. read more

We tried to ask about getting services to our new home. I called and visited the front store location on Hendersonville Rd and couldn't get a straight answer. Weeks of this...Eventually I was told a project manager would contact me in a day or two. It took a month! They wanted $9000 to hook up a house a block off Main Street. We ended up using a Verizon jet pack and are satisfied and we don't have to deal with Charter so it worked out. read more

I pay over 100 dollars a month for the top speed internet. I am supposed to get 100mbps down and 5mbps up. This is a typical test result for me. Download Speed: 1.82 Mbps (0.23 MB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 0.96 Mbps (0.12 MB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 19 ms Jitter: 2 ms I have never seen it any faster than 50, and more than 75 percent of the time the speeds I get are under 5mbps. Charters tech support is useless. "Did you power cycle it?" are you kidding me? Even when I explained to them that I am a computer professional and I have already done everything they could possible ask me to do, I still had to jump through their hoops while their "Tech" who was clearly reading to me out of manual how to reset my internet, and has no real knowledge of networks had me "Power Cycle" and release and renew my DNS , things I had already done. And still, my internet crawls. Even using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for DNS does not fix this problem. This has been going on for over a year now, and they simply will not resolve the issue, and have no explanation for it. Switching to AT and T this week, what a great alternative :( The worst part about all this is, I work from home and I rely on FTP programs a good part of the day. read more

So, I just called Charter because my Internet goes down every night at the same time. The guy told me my Internet would be out every night between 12-5 am for a month. I told him that this is when I work and that I pay for Internet because I actually like to...ya know... have Internet. To which he said, I'd need to call in every night (even though they have already scheduled the outage and KNOW without me telling them that I won't have access for a month) in order to get my refund. Correct me if I'm wrong bit isn't charging people for a service you're not actually providing the definition of "stealing"? Better business bureau here I come. I have lived all over the country and have had numerous cable and satellite TV services. Charter is by far the worse. I feel I have been thrown back 20 years in Cable TV! Charter offers a great bundle but the programming is limited. ON DEMAND is a joke. I had Direct TV for years and I admit that it is some what expensive. Especially like me that had a Genie and a larger program package. Five TVs and 3 premium networks About $150 per month and worth every penny. Outstanding programing, navigation and prompt and friendly customer service. On the other extreme is Charter. I arrived in Asheville 4 months ago and took a sub lease on an apartment for three months. I immediately called Direct TV and they promptly installed my dish and were extremely efficient and friendly. I then called Charder for Internet servive. After being pressured for 20 minutes to take their bundle, I kept saying that I did not want cable TV that I had Direct and loved. No I did not want a land line, we had cell phones. After telling him over and over again that I was not interested and practically in tears begged them to please come and hook up my Internet. They arrived a couple of days later to the wrong Appartement. After finding us in the correct apartment it took them over an hour to cancel that account and open a new one. 10 weeks later we moved into a larger apartment In the same complex and was told that they had all apartments installed with Charter Cable and no longer allowed dishes or any other providers. This was now being added to my rent. I was then told I would have to pay for a box for each TV at $0 per month. I called them 8 times to set up each box and remote. And I am not technically challenged and do we development. After getting everything hooked up and at least working, they cut off the TV cable. Internet still working.. We had received a bill from the last apartment for $29 so I just thought it was incidentals left over from the other apartment so I would call them and pay it I've the pne. WELL, They said that there was no such account even though it was printed on the bill. They then said that they would not reconnect it unless I had something to prove residency. I could not fax or email it to them but had to mail it to them.. Then unbelievablely got a bill from them for $410.60 for an account that they say doesnnot exist and only 3 moths of service. The nihhtmear continues. I bought 3 firetv sticks from Amazon for each TV and subscribed to Amazon Prime. Netflix and Hulu. Ahhh! Refief. MUCH BETTER NOW. read more

There's "bad" and then there's Charter. IF you are a new customer, you get all of these great deals....after a year, your pricing doubles. If you call their customer service, they will read from a script and no matter what you say or do, your pricing will remain double. (New customer? We love you. Loyal customer? Who cares!) Outages are also an issue...get used to it because it will happen frequently. Speed? Don't bother paying for higher speeds because you're not going to get them - their capacity hasn't been seriously upgraded in years and, since they are a monopoly, they don't have to do a darned thing. This is a company with NO concept of customer service and no appreciation for customers. Fortunately for all of us, the big cable companies are going to go the way of the dinosaurs...hopefully, Charter will be the first to fall. Save your money and avoid them at all costs. Changed my bundle without letting me know, sent me to a collection agency without any warning or previous bills, etc. and I didn't even find out about it til I applied for a mortgage. Now they want over $700 (I am on disability) for THEIR mistake and won't remove it from my credit. I advise everyone to steer clear of this place. I am in the customer service industry myself and would be fired on the spot if I ever treated a customer the way they have treated me. Horrible! read more

I pay a ridiculous rate of $62/mo for JUST internet. I started paying $30/mo and they raised the price. I got a promotional flyer in the mail for a cheaper price for internet and when I called to see what they could do for me they corrected me and told me I was paying $61.99/month and proceeded to EXCITEDLY tell me that he could give me a deal of $59.99/month. They run a monopoly of the internet service here and they know it and take complete advantage of their customers. read more

Charter Communications has the worst customer service of any internet/cable/phone company out there. It has been a year and a half of stressful and frustrating phone calls on a monthly basis due to overcharges. Although they have reconciled my account, it has taken months to do so each time despite assurances it had been done. After a complaint to their home state's Attorney General's Office, a settlement was made, but Charter informed the AG's office it was made for much more than they gave me. Despite this, the monthly calls still needed to be made. After finally cancelling my cable service, I had a technician come out to fix my internet, and they didnt even show. I waited all night by the door and the phone and no one ever came or called. Yet Charter was informed the house call was made. Needless to say, I cancelled my internet service as well! read more

To provide this company with 1 star is beyond generous. I pay for their internet service and have a package which describes receiving 60 mb/s download (obviously there is some room for error such as +/- 5mb/s based on location, line quality, and even time of day). However, over the past several weeks I have been receiving a download rate of between 1 - 7 mb/s. For those of you who may not completely understand how drastic that is, that would be like paying to fill up a H2 and only receiving enough gas for a moped. After calling for 2 weeks, 3 technician visits, and at least 4 hours of agonizing "quick fix tips" from the "lovely" phone response members at charter, no fix has been found. I swear to you, last time a tech was out to my property their best bet for finding a solution was to "go ring your neighbors door, he has charter, and ask him to run a speed test to determine whether or not he is having these issues too." To further screw me, this company would not even yield a refund for the well documented issue until I had called several times. The final refund they offered was 1/4 of what I paid for the "service" over the past month. This internet "provider" is terrible not only from an internet standpoint, but also from a business model standpoint. If it can be avoided, do not even associate with this company. Do not call them, do not look at their website, do not even read the decal on their "service repair" vehicles. This company should be shut down. Or if anyone is interested in starting up an ISP which actually makes good on what its users pay for, please let me know. I'm looking to invest in something that is not complete shit. read more

Called Charter to start telephone and internet service. I wanted to have my existing number ported over to the new Charter account. The installer came as scheduled but knew nothing about having my number ported over. We made a new appointment but when the installer came back, once again there was no record of my request to port my number. The third appointment wound up with the same result. I called Charter and cancelled the service request, having decided to stay with AT&T. After a couple of months, I received a letter from a collection agency demanding payment of $102 to Charter. I had no contact with Charter after the last aborted installation and advised the collection by Certified Mail accordingly. Several months later, with no further contact from Charter or the collection agency, I was advised that the negative report had been posted to Experian, one of the credit reporting agencies. I get basic cable service and the channels keep dwindling down and the cost keeps going up. Yesterday I went to Charter'soffice to pay the bill and was told I will have to rent a box for $5.99 / mo. to continue receiving a signal. So tack that on the bill now. My internet service isn't the greatest. It's sunny out and I just had a 3 hour outage this morning. Called Charter and "Carlos" could not tell me why it was out. Oh, and now Charter charges $1.99 if you talk to a service rep to pay your bill. My daughter pays just $12.00/mo for basic cable and $25.00 for internet/ mo. over in High Point,NC. Whereas, I pay $47.00 for internet and $25.00 for basic cable monthly. I am currently checking out alternatives to Charter. I will just cancel my basic cable when I absolutely have to have the box for an additional $5.99/ mo. It just isn't worth it. I do not use the music channels--that is what a radio is for and it is free. Also , I do not use the "On Demand" service either. I can see old movies on the internet if I choose, which I do not, anyways. Charter sucks. read more
