Charter internet goes out for multiple hours at a time, multiple times per week, sometimes even multiple times per day.

Completely incompetent. Regret switching from AT&T. Lack follow up. TV far inferior to Direct TV.

Zero stars. Don't make the mistake of signing up with Charter! Look at Charter's terrible reviews everywhere. Consumerist magazine (not-for-profit subsidiary of Consumer Reports) calls Charter the "worst company in America." It's no wonder Charter went bankrupt a few years ago. This sleazy firm's business practices include: - cutting your satellite cable, then insisting that customer fight with Charter's 3rd party unlicensed contractor instead of honestly owning up to their mistake and correcting it. - moving your first bill due date ahead after first bill, without prior notification (told this is a "standard" Charter procedure on 2nd bill) - insisting that customers wait 45 days (unbelievable but true) for Charter's Autopay system to take effect, then warning that double payments may occur when customer attempts to make a one-time payment prior to the interim due date (as a safety measure) - moving from CSR agents in South Carolina to the Phillipines, where they lie to customers by claiming healthy account status with zero problems and confirming Autopay sign up weeks ago, then cutting off all services including (Emergency 911) shortly thereafter, without prior notice - migrating from helpful humans to speak with or chat online (about no-service issues) to worthless automated systems - poor no-service reliability I really wanted to love Charter. Our credit history is well above 700 and we always pay bills on time. But after several serious attempts to cooperate with Charter, acting as a good customer to straighten out their billing errors, all of our attempts have been futile. I recommend that prospective customers view the 800+ complaints about Charter on another website, plus other sites, before wasting your time. Charter is one of the worst. If they spent 10% of the money and effort on service and keeping customers they already had to what they spent in trying to get new ones - they'd be a five star. I canceled my cable tv because they no-showed me three times for service and could have cared less about my time. There aren't a lot of internet options yet - so I stuck it out with them. I've had a bad cable install since day one and intermittent signal. Last service call - guy was here three hours, left without saying a word and nothing! This is fourth time to fix the cable. Had to call back to get another appointment. The saga continues. read more

I left Charter years ago because of their poor customer service. I came back because of Internet speeds and have just switched my tv to them as well. I can say that their customer service rivals anyone now. Their reps are friendly and helpful and they attempt to understand the issue. read more

When I responded to a promotion sent to me in the mail, the salespeople lied to me about what I would be getting. When I call them for help or sales related issues, they usually give me wrong information to make the service I am getting sound better than it is. When asking for technical help, they treat you like an idiot and do not fix the problem. They would for example tell me they fixed the problem and quickly eave or hang up even though they did not fix anything. And again, they say things that are not true about their services. read more

A supervisor at Charter says Charter has washed their hands of a problem I have had for 6 months where distortions are happening simultaneously on 3 TVs I own, using the excuse that neighbors nearby don't have the problem, which, in the 24 years I have subscribed to their cable service, have seen happen much of the time where a person can have an issue that is limited to the person with the issue & not necessarily to those nearby.They now are saying that I should hire a master electrician to solve the issue by fixing what they say is a voltage back-feed through their coaxial cable (we had our interior electricity checked by the power company about 2 months ago regarding a billing issue & told Charter about this). Hiring & paying an electrician would be at my expense! Furthermore they will not check junction boxes nearby since they maintain that 'no one else has the problem', a lame excuse! I have been dealing with technicians & supervisors over the past 6 months regarding these intermittent distortions in pictures on my 3 TVs.The last tech supervisor who came out, who is the technical operations supervisor, eliminated various devices in my home to see if one of those caused the problem, which it didn't.He said he would call me back the following Friday after his last visit to my home but did not call, nor did he return a call I left on his voice mail including the following Monday when I left him a message.I called the management level of Charter & a manager told me the tech supervisor told him it was a coaxial voltage problem & not a Charter problem. The coaxial cable belongs to Charter & any problem causing anything but a clear picture is their responsibility even if they have to get an electrician themselves to deal with it, thereby giving me what I am paying for, that is, IF that is even the problem!! Any problem whatsoever with anything that affects TV reception is their responsibility. So they have left me with a problem I have not encountered since 1990 when I first had Charter installed.They admit that they have given up without taking the necessary steps to fix it. So I am left to pay Charter each month for a picture I cannot, at times, enjoy & which the technical dept.is unable or unwilling to fix along with hiring & paying for a master electrician for something that might not even exist!! Knowing the way they have handled this so far, even if the electrician says nothing is wrong they will probably dispute his findings in order to DO NOTHING ABOUT IT! For me it is a 'no win' situation unless I have to resort to legal assistance!! read more
