10 stars. Chase is a Big Bank so it struggles to maintain that personal banking feeling that customers desire. One branch that is succeeding is the Alvarado St. branch in Monterey. You'd barely know it was there, as it is dwarfed by the Portola Hotel, and almost blends in with the adjacent parking garage. But don't overlook this strategically placed branch nor the helpful folks who work there. Pricilla and her boss the branch manager helped me out of a sticky situation. There is a genuine quality about these folks I think you will appreciate. I sure did. I went to Chase bank on Alvardo St Monterey ca today. I business was to cash a check written from a Chase account. The process requires two forms of ID. I presented a US passport and a resident card issued from Mexico. The official resident card from Mexico included a photo, DOB and signature. Britttany, the teller, was unable to locate the card in her " system ". Her supervisor indicated the same. How does CA bank not reconize a card issue by the Mexican goverment. Anthony was so helpful and kind while opening my son's first checking account. My son got his first job and needed an account for a direct deposit. My husband and I have Chase accounts. I've been to 3 branches now; this branch on Alvarado St Monterey, the branch on South Main in Salinas and our home branch in Pacific Grove. Each time I have needed assistance for opening accounts or getting notary service, the staff has treated me and every other customer as if we were VIPs. Came in to withdraw and exchanged few hundreds to crisp new bills. Teller Sheryl gave annoyed sigh and told me that old $100 bills worth the same. I know they do, but the money is not for me. I explained to her that unfortunately in some Asian countries the old bills would literally exchange less in value (yes, it's really stupid and unfair). Oh man After being with this bank for over 10 years I was forced by chase to close the account. This all started because of a Paypal transaction I didn't authorize where $299 was transferred by Paypal from my chase account to my Paypal account. I'm not sure how that happened but had to change my Paypal account info Security questions password etc. paypal recommended I stop the transfer from chases end. I called chase to do that and they wanted me to pay them $30 for a stop payment fee? What? Really? I balked and told them why should I have to pay for a unauthorized transaction and the lady said i could talk to the fraud department and I was thinking after 10 minutes of explaining what was going on why didn't she transfer me to fraud department already? So she transfers me and I explain what happened all over again to the fraud Dept Everything is going as expected in that they are gonna stop the payment on the fraudulent transaction up until the lady tells me that if I don't close my bank account I will never have fraud protection again? How does that make sense? So after being a loyal chase business bank customer for 3 corporations Personal bank customer Mortgage holder Chase credit card holder Trust account trustee Estate account fiduciary And as an accountant I have referred hundreds of my business clients to chase to open up new accounts Now I am forced to close my accounts in order to protect myself from any potential future fraud? All because of one paypal transaction? And to top it all off when I went down to the chase branch to close the account the banker could not close the account because it is locked by the pending paypal transaction investigation Lol So all my money is now tied up. To say I'm disappointed with chase banks ability to provide effective Custer service and to create and implement policies hat make logical sense, are efficient, and are designed to protect their existing customers and attract new business, would be an understatement. I went in for a Notary, found an individual, Anthony, this individual was not even assisting anybody, just sitting on his desk, and when I asked him to sign my one page document, he told me come back in 30 minutes? He told me that he had an appt setup, yet, his appointment did not show up, I looked at my watch, it's 2:41pm.... So why not just sign my one page paper and get it done with? Still, he made up more excuses that he now had also other obligations upstairs... What a bunch for a BS, bad customer service! Will not enter this location again! read more

I have been with Chase for almost seven years and it has been a great experience. Three months ago there was an issue with a check coming into my account. After months of Chase having me jump through hoops promising me this was resolved they are still holding my clients funds. They have told me on two separate occasions that a check has been mailed. Now they are telling me that the funds are cleared but one of their departments won't release the funds. They have also told me that I need to speak with a gentleman named Kyle to resolve the matter. I have called Kyle over fifty times and keep getting his voicemail promising a quick reply. Friday was three months. I will be pulling all my business from Chase and broadcasting to the world about this. read more

Worst bank ever, my family and I have had the worst experience with this bank, after my mother passed, she had some funds in an account there, and the account was named "the (family name) trust account" with my parents as trustees. Well, when the executor of my parents estate went to withdraw the funds, giving them all the needed documents, etc. they were very rude to him, number 1, and number 2, when it finally came to the day when they were going to release the funds, they called to let us know that an estranged sister had already taken all the funds and closed the account. An account that should have been frozen until all paper work submitted. Of course, she went to the Seaside branch, and he was dealing with Monterey and PG, but, a bank is a bank, all branches should know whats going on with someones account. Terrible Terrible Bank. Not sure where we'll head from here on this situation just yet, but, just want to give everyone the heads up. Chase Bank is terrible. The Worst. They allow people to steal dead peoples money. I'm telling all my friends, and family, not to deal with Chase bank, some have already responded by closing their accounts. How do they not know that when a person passes away, the power of attorney passes away with them..Chase Bank, you really dropped the ball on this one. And I will let the world know. read more

Seems every time I come by this location there is an error made. I nanny in the area so I spend a lot of time down town. I go in a lot to deposit my checks and seems they never get them cleared when they should be cleared. For some reason their tellers don't get my account number right! Once I had to call because it had been a WEEK since I had deposited. I called and their manager said "Oh your deposit was just kinda floating" Hello??? I want my money. Anyways she took care of it and it was okay. But I've had serious problems here about 5 times. I would def. skip unless you need to visit the atm. read more

I have been a Chase customer for 5 years now and use them for business and personal finances. This review only applies to the Monterey (Alvarado St.) branch. The tellers are very nice. The "bankers" are the slowest, laziest people I've ever encountered. Every time I go in with a request, the first thing out of their mouths is "Oh, no, sorry, we can't do that". I always end up driving to Pacific Grove or one of the Carmel branches and they always help me out. read more

Chase is absolutely the worst bank I've ever had to deal with. Period. They are utterly incompetent, they are not respectful to their clients, and they fail to own up to their mistakes. The only reason that I had a Chase account is that one was started for me in the third grade as a college savings account. Now, over twelve years later I regret to having ever been a customer. They failed to send my account balance to the correct address (despite my clear and exacting directions) then lied to me about express mailing the check to the correct location. They offered absolutely no assistance for their mistake and refused to search for a solution. I was routed for countless hours on the phone while attempting to deal with their indifferent attitude towards customers. I demand much, much more from a bank and Chase does not even measure up to the most basic of bank standards. I do not often write reviews but Chase's inexcusable conduct and inadequacy in this case warranted my time and attention. Please exercise caution when dealing with this company! read more

I went in to cash a check written on a chase account. They placed a hold on fund in their bank. When I asked why they gave me some lamb excuse.
