They are unable to properly listen to the reason for your call because they are unhappy people who hate their jobs and are always thinking about what canned response they will read next from a page of scripted lines pinned up in front of them. There is zero genuine empathy statements or problem solving unless you ask for a supervisor and even then it is a crap shoot. Cheap outsourced labor gets you cheap quality customer service. Just because most businesses are doing it doesn't make it right, it makes most businesses some real greedy aholes who think the public have just accepted that we should lose our humanity in favor of "inflation" so the man in the big tower can make his tower bigger while the peasants below slave and toil. Soon the peasants will all be replaced with "sentient" machines and there will be no humanity. Also, this bank is limited as far as where it has branches so if you need to make a deposit or you lose your card while on vacation, it's a bit of an issue. I live in CT but travel to Maine often and there are no Webster Banks in Maine. Today I called bc I hard charges I didn't recognize. It was totally my fault, I called before I had my coffee and my brain probably wasn't at its finest. They were valid charges but it took 4 calls and 4 representatives (2 of them supervisors) to untangle the mess made by me inquiring abt these 2 charges. My card got blocked so now I have to go to the branch and get a new card. The call dropped and not only did one Supervisor not return my call even though I was mid sentence when it dropped, she put in her notes that I hung up so she didn't call me back! Outright lie but made her life easier I guess, until I called back and that Supervisor knew her. The 2 reps on the regular customer service floor sounded either new and in training or completely bored and miserable. Definitely not people who love their jobs. Webster you need to do better than this!

I grew up in Connecticut, and Webster is a Connecticut-based bank, and branches around here are obviously few and far between so it's not like I can visit their ATM on a daily basis. I rarely need to go between mobile check deposit and taking cashback from various merchants rather than eating ATM fees, but when I have a bunch of cash to deposit or something, it's helpful that the ATM is only 15 minutes away. My only complaint is I wish they'd put in a driveup ATM. Since I've moved, I've entertained the thought of switching banks for my primary checking account - but then I end up having to call them for some sort of customer service issue, and am reminded why I like them so much. They're always helpful and there's rarely more than a 5 minute wait to get a hold of a human being that actually is in Connecticut rather than some far off call center. I strongly doubt Chase would be that good, and I know from experience Bank of America is absolutely atrocious. I really wish they'd support Android Pay with their debit cards, they used to and then stopped...meanwhile maintaining Apple Pay compatibility (and I was making NFC payments long before it was a twinkle in the corpse of Steve Jobs' eye) but they finally made some homebrew app - which is annoying since sometimes I want to use a different card in Android Pay, and it's annoying to force Android Pay to default over Webster Pay...but I appreciate the fact that they finally did something about this after hounding them for a solid year. Overall I enjoy how Webster has big bank features while maintaining small bank customer service skills, which is why I've been a customer for 12 years and counting after a brief break to big bad BofA waters (ugh.)

Ms. King, the branch manager, was very courteous and friendly. She also explained acoount features and fees to me patiently. Most importantly, Bankwell doesn't nickel-and-dimed customers to death. So far, I'm also impressed with the quality of the online and mobile banking tools and they're easy to navigate around. Furthermore, the phone bank customer supports were very help and nice. I'll provide another update after banking with Bankwell for at least a month.

The loan officer there, who was leaving to work at The First Bank of Greenwich, convinced me to apply with them instead. He promised to personally introduce me to the bank manager and a VP, which he did. At The First Bank of Greenwich, the VP required me to deposit $100K into an account in order to receive a $100K "secured" loan. Both the VP and the manager assured me that, within two weeks, this would be converted into a standard loan. That turned out to be a complete lie. Instead, they held onto my $100K for two months, during which I had no access to it, and ultimately informed me that they would not be approving any loan. When I decided to walk away and asked for my money back (I returned their $100K check, which I had never deposited elsewhere), they had the audacity to charge me $500 just to withdraw my own funds. In other words: they took $100K of my money, used it for two months, refused me the loan they promised, and then charged me $500 on the way out. I do not trust this bank and will never do business with them again.

After several decades of business banking - and at several banks - the First Bank of Greenwich has, again and again, gone out of their way to help in all ways big and small, that I've not seen elsewhere.
