There is a nice restaurant area, a covered porch area and an uncovered patio area where you can sit and enjoy a bottle of wine overlooking the vineyards. Their Golden Harvest is their main sweet wine and even though its description mentions lemon drop, it's not always discernible. Since it is a family owned and run winery, each batch will have a slightly different taste. My main favorite wines are their apple wines, especially the Apple Crisp. They also offer wood fired pizza that is unlike any of the chain restaurant's. It pairs very well with all of their wines that we've tried so far. I think it's probably low acidic sauce because I have heartburn problems when I eat anyone else's pizza with wine but not theirs. When they aren't busy, the staff, especially Mark and Julie, recognize us from our visits over the years. The tasting room and pizza window overlook a nice little pond and woods and all the decor is spot on.

Even the driest of the wines, the Cabernet Sauvignon, is very sweet. So, if you love sweet wines, this place is for you! Right now, they are only pouring a Cabernet, a red blend, a Riesling and a sweet Rose. The grapes are imported, but Woolley Yak has their own vineyard, and the intention is that they will soon start producing wine from their own grapes. You can get a flight of wine, or a glass of wine, or a mimosa, and then you can take your wine outside with you as you explore the grounds. There are picnic benches here and there. There's also a food truck that sells four different types of grilled cheese sandwiches and handheld charcuterie cups. I think food is only available Friday through Sunday, though. I visited with children (well, a teen and an almost tween), but they are a good hang and will play on a playground with the best of them, so we headed straight for the nature play space. The playground was designed to encourage kids to engage in unstructured play, so it has a lot of natural elements all around, like tree stumps, hay bales and logs. My kids are "co-op kids" for life (their early years were spent at a nature-based cooperative preschool), so they thrive with this type of playground. There's also a tire mound to climb, a balance beam to balance on, and a basketball shooting station made from a grain wagon. There's lots of space to run around, and a few trees to climb, too. The big draw of Woolly Yak is the yaks! There are also Babydoll Southdown sheep, Kunekune pigs and chickens that live on the ranch. You can just sit on a bench and watch these animals do their things in their living spaces. Or, if you want a more up-close experience, you can purchase a ticket to one of the animal experiences, like storytime with sheep or tea with lambs. You can also experience brushing the yaks and giving them treats. If you didn't want to do any of those experiences, though, you could just visit the ranch to see the animals for free! There is no admission to enter the ranch or to park. It's a nice place to visit to stroll around and see what you can see.

As I drove down the driveway toward the tasting room, I took in all of the gardens and the grapes that were growing. When I got there I walked along a path that was lined with greenery and flowers. When I got inside, I was greeted by the owner Tony. Tony was lovely and so helpful, he explained the different wines, and they were clearly marked for sweetness level or for how dry they were on the sheet where you chose your samples. I did choose four samples to try, and I really liked one of them. I am more of a sweet wine gal, and I have been trying to branch out a little bit, but I'm just not there yet. And talking to Tony I found out that his son is also in the wine business and he is in the wine business in California. Tony also sources some of his grapes from California. I also found out that he has three Airbnb's on this property one is over the tasting room and then two are at the front of the property. It was so beautiful there and I ended up bringing a couple of bottles of wine home. I also ate my lunch there, but they do not have a food license so I picked some local cheese that they had in a refrigerator and some summer sausage from a sausage maker in Cincinnati and he handed me a knife and cutting board so I made my own charcuterie and it worked out perfectly. There were so many lovely places to sit outside and have my lunch but it was about 90° and not much breeze so I ended up staying in. I was at North Market yesterday and decided to pick up a bottle of wine. I've been wanting to try an Ohio wine for years but have always hesitated. How can Ohio have good grapes? Plus, I've heard from many sources that Ohio wines are gross. Anyway, one particular bottle stood out to meand it was the Kinkead Ridge Syrah (2008 vintage). At $20, it was a little more than I usually spend on a bottle (yes, I'm cheap), but I thought, "What the hell?" Let me just say.....*swoon.* This wine was amazing! Ballsy, spicy, full of body - just the way we like it. I can't believe the vines in the winery are only 10 years old! Probably one of the best Syrahs I've had in a long time. Plus, at 15.2% alcohol content, it was worth the $20. When I was finished with the bottle, I was thoroughly schnockered. I WILL come to this winery when it opens back up over Memorial Day weekend! For those of you in Columbus who want to try this wine, they sell in grocery stores, restaurants and wine shops all over town. Their website has a list of retailers.
