Chatter Baux is perfect solution to the lightly used clothes and toys that are in your kids closet. All items in the store are on consignment for 2 months. When the 2 months is up you have 2 options: 1. Come find and get your items or 2. Your remaining items will go on the $1 sale. My daughter and I are frequent consignees here. From time to time we will purchase clothing, but what my daughter and I really love getting are the puzzles. The price point is perfect, all pieces are accounted for and when you do a puzzle 1 or 2 times then we usually are done. The owner of the store is very personable and kind. This place is incredible! So much of everything a child could ever need or want! The prices are great, and the shopping experience is fun. We had to find a last minute full ballet outfit and of course Chatter Baux had me covered. Also love the all movies they have! We picked up Bill Nye the Science Guy. Dollar days are the best! Great selection. I was able to find a sun hat for my little one! I also got a wetsuit that was seriously discounted and is now my child's most favorite thing ever! While in the shop, I overheard the owner interacting with her customers; she was so sweet and personable. There are stairs coming in the front entrance and when I was leaving, she insisted on helping me up the stairs with my purchase and stroller. This place is a must-visit if you live in the area or are visiting with kids. They have a bunch of unique items for kids that people put on consignment for you to buy. You can also make an appointment by calling if you have nice kids items to sell. My son always asks me if we are going to Chatter Baux whenever we are downtown. Last time we were there we found action figures, a nice book, and some pants for my 7-year-old son. Do yourself a favor and check out this awesome children's shop! I've been a loyal customer since 2004. Although the ownership has changed hands in that time, I'm still a fan. Alessandra (the owner) is organized as one could possibly be in this scenario. My idea of hell would be constant bombardment with "stuff". She manages to keep from going totally postal 99.9% of the time. Everything is organized using a computer program especially for consignment shops. It flawlwssly (in my experience) tracks the items you successfully sell and automatically adds that amount to your account. She knows what I look for when I'm in (new higher end brands) and always points me in that direction, sometimes pulling from the stash yet to be hung. You do need to inspect the clothing. Even those new items with the tags intact sometimes have rips, stains, etc. That being said, the owner has an incredible eye so when you bring your gently used items in to resale make sure they are stain-free and in great condition. It's amazing how much waste is involved with kids- not just in the diapers either. This is a great way to reduce waste and pass along your kid's favorites to the next kids in line. It's also been a blessing when my son is begging for a new toy. He loves playing in the toy area and usually finds something to feed the toy monster without mama having to drop $40 at Target. read more

I stop by here every time I'm in town, and always find tons of extremely affordable clothes for my kid. Like other reviewer mentioned, it is a bit messy, and very crowded. But I have to admit, I kinda like looking for those diamonds in the rough and going through all the racks. The prices are very very good, and everyone there is super friendly, unlike some of the kids consignment places close to my hood. (ie $15 for a USED 2 yr old's t-shirt. no thank you. Alexsandra has truly mastered the art of children's consignment-don't let the amount of stuff packed in this space fool you! She knows her stuff, has a freakishly amazing memory when it comes to her inventory (which has a wide range) and she KNOWS her customers like nobody's business. The prices are great, the clothes are in fabulous condition and I have never bought a toy that didn't work and we have been going every Tuesday for the last 3 years. My 5 year old gives it 5 stars too! Best children's shop on the peninsula. Hands down. It's a consignment shop. I wish a few things were different: a. the store was bigger and therefore more organized (you can't bring your stroller in) b. they could buy more than just 15 things a month c. a free bin would be cool (maybe there is one, but I didn't see it) d. it wasn't consigment. It would be nice if they would just give you a flat fee - say 1.00 or 50 cents per clothing item or just store credit in that same amount. e. opening a little earlier would be nice. They don't open until 10:30. I've been by several times only to find it not open yet. Closed Sunday and Monday. How it works is they price your stuff and if it sells in the next 90 days, they give you a percentage of what your stuff sold for either 60% store credit or after the 15th of the month they can give you a check for 40%. Your choice - store credit or a check. If your stuff doesn't sell in 90 days, you get to come back and wade through tons of stuff to try to find it and reclaim it, or just let it be donated away. When I was in, the gal told me it would be a 30 minute wait for her to go through my 15 items to see if they were worth selling in her shop. Several pieces weren't. 30 minutes is a very long time to wait when you have a one year old biting at your heels. A drop off situation would really help. If there are a lot of customers in line it can take a very long time to be helped. Again, if it wasn't consignment all the tags and tracking etc. would be done away with, but I understand people might want more return on their money for their things. Just wish it wasn't consignment. A flat fee to people for items and then send them out the door, that's what I say. read more

Decent prices on everything kids! Clothes, toys, furniture you name it they probably have it for the little ones. The store is stuffed with so many used and even a few new items. All the toys, and clothes that I have gotten have been in near perfect condition and the price fair. The selection for older boys is a little thin but I am sure that is because boys over 4 are a little harder on everything! Near the end of the month she runs a really good discount rack to with items for $1!! The only downside is the store is always a mess but I can deal with a mess for a good deal! read more

I love this store - the selection is wonderful and the staff are very friendly. I can always find a heap of quality kids clothes, and with 3 aged 6 and under, it's terrific to have a lot of options in one place. The major downside (though I won't dock a point for this) is the layout. It's a small store and the place is just so full of clothes and toys and shoes it's pretty hard to move around and can be hard to find things. It's a minor criticism. Anyhow, it's worth planning a long visit if you can - since things can be hard to find, especially on a crowded day, it's best not to try to duck in for a 10 minute visit and expect good results. Give yourself time to look. In terms of pricing, I don't generally feel it's 'overpriced'. I occasionally look at their prices and think so, but overall I think they've got it right. Almost every item I've ever seen here is also high quality - new looking or close to it. I shop at thrift stores too, and you tend to have to wade through a lot more crappy clothes there to find something decent. read more

Excellent shop brings extras to consign but have to come after 7th each month 8ththrough end because dollar sale is always first week of month. Went here for the first time today! Got some amazing things and they were very reasonably priced. I got a Columbia snowsuit for a baby boy that looked brand new for a quarter of the price at REI. Also found some tiny Toms that were adorable. Store owner is very sweet and even discounted a pair of pants without me having to ask since they had a little bit of stains around the knees...not very noticeable. Visiting Pacific Grove with my family, my mom and I decided to go shopping for my little girl. This shop was in a tourist guide book from the hotel as well as the yelp reviews I had read so I was planning to shop here already. Alessandra is nice and no-non-sense in her business approach and helpful as she gave us advice on other consignment stores and cute boutiques to visit while we were here. We didn't find anything for my daughter, but I did find jacket that fit me (I'm petite so this was a girls XL coat) and since it was 50% off all jackets on that Thursday (every week on Thursday Alessandra puts 1 category of clothes on special discount), I got the jacket for $7.50 or so! =) It was in very good condition too. And every first Monday of the month there's special deals where lots of clothes are $1 each (since they haven't sold for 90s days), so definitely some bargains there for local moms with kids who are growing through clothes quickly. There's only street parking which can be hard to find on a busy day, but we found a spot right pretty closey by the store that Thursday afternoon. Credit cards only work for $10 or more purchases, which isn't hard to get to with some pretty good deals throughout the store.
