So, I have to start this review with a backstory. I have been with the same stylist for years and years. I've been very spoiled by her...preCovid and during Covid....so when she told me she was returning to school, I was super supportive but I knew my days with her were numbered. Fast forward several weeks...and I was already dreading finding a new stylist. I like developing long-term stylist relationships....like YEARS. Change is hard for me. Yelp led me to Che Bangs...and when I saw a mutual friend on facebook comment on their business page, I had to give the salon a shot. I made the first available appointment with Suzanna. I really didn't know what to expect after a scheduling mishap and several phone calls because their online system isn't really first time customer friendly. I went in with an open mind because my hair was aging by the minute! I haven't been in a salon in several years due to Covid (my stylist came to my house!) , so I really forgot how lovely they are. I was offered water several times- even a latte! The salon is inviting and your stylist will wear a mask if you request it. It's all about comfort here! Suzanna and I chatted for a few minutes before she worked her magic on my 85 year old completely gray hair and brought my roots back to life by perfectly matching my 25 year old blonde head of hair! Her blowout was amazing and I actually wore my hair down for the rest of the day. If you know me, #mombunforlife...except when I get it done! I was SO happy with Suzanna that I actually made my next appointment before leaving the salon. I didn't even hesitate to think about it. 5 stars! Highly recommend! read more

Extremely Disappointed A Salon is as good as their Stylists. I have had my Stylist for over 13 years and I have followed her blindly and always will. I'm SUPER proud of Suzanna, she's now opened her new lil Studio in San Marcos and we are more than happy to support her on her new adventure. The reason I'm giving Che Bangs 1 star is because of how I was falsely given information about her availability by the actual Owner of the establishment, very disappointing as I also found out from other clients I referred to her where also having the same issue. I was going from LA to SD for a wedding, and after running around like a crazy lady after a workday to get on the road, I decided I wanted to look pretty at the wedding and get a blowout. I am not a woman who was blessed with that innate feminine ability to make my hair look good, so when it's a special occasion, I treat myself to have it done. In yelping and calling around to different salons in the area (and striking out several times), I found this one where they were A) super friendly, B) gave me a last-minute appointment, C) were down the street from the wedding venue, and D) charged less than 30 bucks for a blowout! Score! Side note: I explained that I was going to a wedding at 4:30, told them where the venue was, and that I was driving from LA. The very nice gentleman I spoke with told me that he could book me for a 3:45, since the stylist was finishing up another appointment, but if I arrived closer to 3:30 and she was done, they could take me then.... both options leaving more than enough time for a blowout and travel time. Perfect, I thought. We arrived to the salon where we were warmly greeted and offered beverages and cookies. I was about to go to a wedding where I couldn't drink, so I very gladly accepted a glass of wine. The man was the same one I'd talked to over the phone, and he chatted with my boyfriend and I and told us about the different men's and women's services and packages they offer. Then I waited..... and waited..... and waited. It was getting to be 4PM and I was getting worried. I understand that some appointments take longer than expected, but there was no acknowledgement (maybe someone else could have offered to start the washing?). I felt like saying, "Hey, I'm the girl who called about the 4:30 wedding I have to be at!" But no one was around the front counter area. Finally, as I was considering leaving, my stylist was ready. There was about 15 minutes to do my hair. I told her I was concerned about time, so she offered just to curl it. On the positive side, she was very sweet and chatty, and made my hair look great. It was more ringlet-y than I expected, but stayed into the next day. I was very happy with the service. But I was also charged full price, when it wasn't really a blowout, just a "curling"........ and we were a little late to the wedding. Thank goodness the ceremony was late starting, too. But it would have been nice to have some kind of acknowledgement that I called, was promised that a 3:45 appointment would be enough time, and then wasn't seen until after 4PM. Great service and I'd go back, but a check-in or an "I'm sorry" could go a long way. read more

Che Bangs to the hair health rescue!! Believe the good reviews. This place has saved my hair from a rather unfortunate situation I had at another salon. Within a few visits they transformed my super damaged hair. They use real, salon quality hair products and pay attention to their clients wants and needs. Starting with a hair "audit"! They take their jobs seriously and have lovely taste when it comes to beauty and haircare. Kaleena took her time and understood my hair anxiety. The result was gorgeous cut and color. I would recommend Che Bangs for all your beauty needs. I would rate 11 stars, if able. Over all Che Bangs is a great, service is good, te place looks clean and the overall atmosphere is welcoming. My daughter really enjoys coming here, she has always been pleased with her haircuts and service she receives. I on the other hand will not be coming back. I had scheduled a last minute appointment for haircut and blow dry. Upon arrival I was told that there would not be enough time to blow dry due the length of my hair. Whatever, I still needed a haircut so I agreed. I sit in the chair for a while the stylist is chatting with me for a long time just touching my hair and although it was pleasant, it was very long, enough to make me think " I thought there was lo time to blow dry my hair" anyways eventually they get to trimming my hair literally it took 8 minutes tops. I still decided to come back another time for a treatment. This time another stylist whom had cut my hair previously weirdly approached from a corner and gave a glaring impression. Then proceeded to say " I just came to say hi" the other stylist who was treating my hair said "she doesn't want to say hi" I was confused by the whole thing. Apparently this happens often, idk but it made me feel very uncomfortable and I will not be returning. read more

Suzana is truly magical with hair, I came in to fix my blunt, uneven mess and she elevated my hair to a lighter, textured bob that fits my personal style. My hair feels softer and looks great with or without styling, I've never been so happy with a haircut! This was my first experience at a real salon. My whole life I have gone to Super Cuts or Great Clips for hair cuts, going years in between cuts because I have never been happy with the results. I had such an incredible experience and I absolutely love my hair. Suzana is experienced and so knowledgeable about hair. I went in not being sure what to ask for since I have never had a good experience with getting my hair cut, and she knew exactly what to do to make my hair look amazing. BAD EXPERIENCE After seeing all the amazing reviews I thought to myself that I just had to come here. I didn't necessarily get the full outcome of what I was looking for with my haircut, but hair grows back and it was just a trim so it's not a big change. However, I was told due to the new CDC regulations I had to wear a mask during my appt. When I walked in no one was wearing a mask. This did not make me uncomfortable as I was wearing my mask. Once the stylist started my hair she was coughing and told me she had just cleaned with windex and apologized. She continued coughing and a male worker asked if I would prefer her to wear a mask. She then wore her mask, but kept wearing it below her nose. She continued coughing in my direction until finally she began walking away practically having a cough attack. She came back after about 5 minutes, apologized, and said she had just done color in someone's hair, the chemicals are making her cough. She then left again to open the doors and cool off explaining she gets hot flashes and that's why she's feeling off. She also gave the reasons of having allergies at one point. Between the coughing on me and all the different reasons for feeling sick I felt very uncomfortable. She also made me feel as if my hair was under her control. I totally understand that it truly could just be hot flashes or allergies or whatever but during these times of COVID no one should be coming into public places if they have any signs or symptoms whether they think it's COVID or not. Besides this place, everywhere else I know requires employees to stay home if even their temperature goes up. The stylist also told me I needed to take care of her hard work and piece of art and be sure do what she says to care for my hair. I take great care of my hair but felt that she did not see me in control of my hair but that she was in control. I had even told her multiple times I'm trying to avoid using heat on my hair but then went into curl my hair with an iron at the end, I have always been asked at the end of my appt if I would like it styled or not. This stylist did not ask much she just assumed things I wanted which was not appreciated. Then instead of asking if I want to schedule another appt she told me the front desk would help me and she would see me in 8 weeks. I did not appreciate the assumption that I planned to come back so soon after just getting a trim. Last but not least, while getting my hair done she looked at my phone screen multiple times and even asked what was on my Lock Screen. I get that eyes wander but I felt my privacy was invaded when that happened. This was my first and last time coming. read more

As a new resident of Escondido, I began searching for a new hair salon last year. After getting a couple of bad haircuts, I found Che Bang. I have never been to any service business that seemed to care about their customers as much as this one. You are given 1st class attention, from the greeting on arrival, to the offered snacks and drinks, to the serious attention to your concerns about any of their services. They really want to make you happy. Kaleena cut my hair a little differently than normal, but it turned out better than my usual! I showed her a picture, and she listened to my concerns and preferences while making her own suggestions. She was very low key, no pressure. My color turned out better than usual, too! I used to work at the pharmacy next door to this cute place, and so many of our patients recommended this place and that's why I made my first appointment. I moved about 40 minutes away, so I don't really visit there anymore, but I did enjoy their services very very much, and I noticed I never left a review. I still would not return because the young woman, Stephanie, who did my nails, no longer works there and I came back as a repeat customer just for her. I went once, and kept going back because A) they listened to what I wanted, even when I was not being clear B) they treated me like a queen and C) they have reasonable rates for amazing work. Kaleena is simply outstanding with color; I've used many stylists over the years and she is the only one who understood how to work with gray hair in a way that lets my roots grow out a bit in between sessions without making me look like I have a big stripe on the top of my head. Finally, they are reliable. There has never been a cancellation, they always call the day before to confirm the appointment, and - bonus - they always have a lovely refreshing drink and a mint for me. Walter decided I couldn't come back to the salon because I canceled an appointment that was going to earn them $300 and then I cancelled a men's hair appointment 4 day's in advance. She was totally booked. My 80 year old mother was handed over to a new employee who took 4 hours to cut, wash and set, dry short hair and then it was terrible. My mom and I received some promotional flyers in the mail and decided to make it a "mother-daughter day". Boy, are we ever glad we went! We were treated like royalty. They asked us if we would care for something to drink, I said yes to some water. Lord behold, I get this fabulous glass of water with cranberries in it! Tasty and refreshing. Nice touch! My mom had tea while I was getting my hair cut; which she enjoyed. It felt like we were at an exclusive spa. Both of us had our hair cut by Erica. She did a fabulous job! She LISTENED! I never had a haircut where I liked it from day one, until now. My mom has very, very thick hair that she has been battling for years. It always had a mind of its own. Erica cut it in a way where my mom wouldn't have to fight the natural curls anymore. After my mom and I got the best haircuts of our lives, we went out for lunch. The cashier at the restaurant even commented on our beautiful cuts! We looked at each other and giggled. What a nice experience and memory! Erica convinced me to stop using cheap shampoo and conditioner. She is right; what difference a good cut and good product makes! I will never go anywhere else to get my hair cut again! Escondido's own upscale salon. I got to know the value of trusting my hair style to upscale salons while living in Virginia / DC, and like the wines, missed knowing the best ones when I moved to Escondido at the start of the new millennium. I visited Che Bangs almost a decade ago and went there until my stylist moved out of state. I recently returned to find the salon transformed. I was kindly greeted and offered a coffee or mimosa. Everyone there was friendly and talkative, especially for a Saturday at 9am :-). It's a pretty classy place. The couple's pedicure sounds like fun. I think it's telling that I would stay with this salon now even if a stylist did leave. Walt is always there to greet me and talk about the goings on in Escondido. It's now as much about the salon, the owners and managers, and its philosophy - to treat everyone as a very important client and to provide upscale services. I won a gift certificate for this salon and boy is it a hidden gem! It is a family run business, very clean and comfortable. My pedicure was amazing and included several pampering leg/foot treatments. The icing on the cake was the yogurt parfait and fruit platter served to me during my pedi- wow! And apparently they serve mimosas on Saturdays! They also guarantee their gel manis for two weeks from chips and breaks. Yessss! I am someone who does not like to do any extra styling to my hair and so I need a great cut that will just wash and go. She does it. My friend who introduced me to the women of Che Bangs also told me that Shannon is really good with thin hair. Plus, a good price! I also get my brows waxed but this has been so-so. I have been going to Shannon since I discovered her as a "hair extension" artist online. I had my extensions put in and they lasted almost 6 months before I had to have her make adjustments. She re-installed the ones that needed to be for a very reasonable price. I believe over all, they lasted about 9 months before I decided to remove them. After I decided I was ready to go back to my normal hair, it had grown out quite a bit, and Shannon was able to work with my color and highlights to make it look almost as if I still had the extensions. My hair is not easy to work with..........I have been to many stylists who do not listen to me.........and do what they think is best. Shannon listens and she produces the results l desire. I have never gone to the salon and had to wait more than 3 minutes. I am in the chair with my magazine...........she works on me for a long time, but not because she is working on others, because she is working on me and only me. I used to go to a Del Mar salon where the head stylist (and owner) would work on two or three of us at a time. I often felt like I was put under the dryer until my hair would catch fire, or I would pass out. I don't mind waiting for quality work, especially when it is all about me. After being with another nail salon for years who sold their business, it has taken me 3 tries at different salons to land, fortunately, at Che Bangs. They offer both hair, NAIL and other services. I now have a new home. "An" does my nails perfectly in exquisite detail and never have I received the compliments as I do now. What more can I say than I already booked my appointments for the next 6 months and am compiling dates to the end of this year. They offer many services - the atmosphere is inviting, the staff always makes you feel like family and to agree with some other reviews "BEST SALON EVER".
