This company was hired to cut down trees in a backyard of a house across the street and 3 house down..there were no cars parked in the street across from the house they were working for 4 house down but decided to park their truck 3 house down on the opposite side and drag the debris all over the road and lawns of several houses. Then another truck pulled up..again a few house down from the person who hired them, stopped the truck in the middle of the road and started throwing the debris in the middle of the road causing more of mess. The workers then started throwing the debris into the other truck leaving the block looking like a hurricane went thru. Tried speaking with a worker who was rude and dismissive and stating he can do what he wants bc I don't own the street. He is correct on not owning the street however out of the respect for the people on the block you would think they would keep the mess to a smaller area instead of involving 6 other houses. If you don't want your neighbors being rightfully upset by the mess this company creates DO NOT hire them!! I set up an appointment for these guys to come to my Mom's house and give us an estimate on tree trimming and shrub removal and they told me they would be there between 9-4. I called in the morning for a better estimate but was told the hours were the same 9-4. After waiting all morning, I called again around 1:30pm and the woman said they usually finish around 3 on a Friday so I should expect them very soon. They never showed up and never called me. No professionalism at all! If this is what their service is like, then I would not recommend them to anyone. If you call them for an estimate, don't expect them to show up! read more

I called and scheduled an appointment with a receptionist in their office, she was polite and helped me have someone come out for an estimate sooner than I expected. Charlie came out and provided an estimate the beat the other estimates by a considerable amount. He was hired that day and when scheduling the date to have them come out the office was very accomodating. They came out the day of the scheduled appointment, within the time frame promised and completed the job as planned. They cleaned up and even moved the lawn statues so they weren't damaged. They led me on for 10 days telling me they'd send someone to assess it after the big storm, scheduled days when they'd come and didnt show up. The office kept telling me they'll come tomorrow, and again tomorrow, until finally on day 10, the office staff tells me, "Oh, they're not working in your area right now due to the storm". When I went to their web site I saw the award they won Best on Long Island, I figured he's a honorable company. Boy, was I wrong. A contract was written and signed by their employee at my home after surveying the work that needed to be done. Tree trimmers arrived 1 hour late for the appointment. I took the day off from work to accommodate their schedule. foreman advised me that to do the work stated on the contract it would cost an additional $800 for a total of $1600. Bait and switch. The most unrespectable company I have ever dealt with. Work was done by another company for $200 over the original price. read more

They dont answer their phones ever. You call, get sent to voicemail where they tell you to leave a voicemail and they will calll back in 10 minutes. My first attempt, i was UNLUCKY enough to get a call where they set a time and date for an estimate. Take time off of work and wait for these people to come, to which they do not. My neighbor used cheap charlies to take down a tree on my property. It was causing problems for him. I agreed to let them on my property to remove it. I was at work at the time, not home. They dropped a branch through the shingles on the side of my house causing damage to the window and side of my house. I called and left a message with the office 3 times. Seems like they are really busy on the weekends so scheduled for Thursday around noon. Showed up a bit early but no big deal. 4 guys worked on 2 20+ foot tall cedars. As advertised - CHEAP character I hired Cheap Charlie's to cut back the branches. With very little confirmation of what they were doing or how they were going to do it, they quickly and a recklessly completed the job but decimated two gardens on the other side of my property - killing multiple plants, taking away a plant stand and sweeping away a significant amount of fresh mulch. Several attempts to patiently and calmly work through the issue with them has left me receiving no response or being treated rudely. They believe a clause in their contract gives them the right to destroy anything on my or my neighbors' properties. Despite giving them several opportunities to rectify the situation, they have proven to have no regard for quality service. I did not ask for a full refund. All I want is for them to pay to replace or repair some of what they destroyed. Their refusal is unacceptable, and the lack of communication and care is evidence of a poorly run business. Cheap Charlie and his employee's should not be allowed to treat people this way. At the very least, I hope my story discourages others from soliciting his business, which would ultimately cost them more than fixing my property. I suspect he will respond with commentary about the contract. It does not give them to be so carelessly destructive. ---------- UPDATE ----------- Following up my post from above - after literally dozens of phone calls, text messages, emails, pictures, online postings and a BBB complaint, Cheap Charlie's and I negotiated a refund. This time i got a call back and was told they'd be they're tomorrow between 9 and 1. Wasted my whole morning. We called Cheap Charlie's to give us an estimate. They thankfully accomodated us and said they would come the next day. That's the only positive I have to say about them. They said they would arrive between 9&3. At 3:00, there was no phone call indicating that they would be late. When my wife called their office, they closed at 3pm. The person who came for the estimate at 4:30 with no apology for being an hour and a half late. The guy then proceeded to be extremely condescending and ended the interaction by telling us to get other estimates and not to be surprised when other places would be cheaper. This company is a poor excuse for a business. I would rather do the work myself instead of choosing them. read more

My experience started out positively but DID NOT END WELL. I had an issue with a partial stump removal which was supposed to be completely removed. Why would anyone ever use this service with all the negative reviews posted? I never looked at this site before hiring this service. My fault, but PLEASE if you are reading this site, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! After completion of job, I told them that on my receipt it clearly indicated to leave the cut branches in small pieces to use in fireplace. Honestly, they walked down the driveway got into truck and drove away! The pieces they left were 8' long! I immediately called office to complain. I was greeted with an extremely rude receptionist which said she would have Brian call back. After over a week of me calling (and being hung up on), Brian did call. He said they lost our paper work, and needed our copy to prove that they had promised to cut wood into small pieces. It is 2 weeks tomorrow since the tree was cut down, and still NO call back from Brian or anyone from the company to come look at my receipt! We had trees removed from our property by Cheap Charlie's. We were satisfied with the removal of the trees but the clean up was less than satisfactory. Small roots were left behind in mounds of dirt that we had to rake out and level. It was noted on the bill they would return within the week to fix deep track marks on my NEIGHBOR'S lawn. A rake and a handful of seed would have remedied the situation. After two calls and promises to send someone, my husband finally went to Home Depot, bought some top soil, seed and took care of the situation. They need to work on customer service. read more

I called a second time and the women in charge apologized and said she would call me back with reason they never showed. VERY disappointed with this company. We had big tree trimmed in late Nov 2018. They said they didnt want to take down too many limbs then as they couldnt see the fullness or the shape of the tree wihout its leaves. I would highly recommend using Cheap Charlie's Tree Service. We had a 50 year old tree in our backyard that needed to be removed. Cheap Charlie's gave the best estimate from the different companies we got estimates from. The only other estimate that was cheaper was from a landscaper. I'm so glad we went with Cheap Charlie's. From start to finish the project took only 2 hours. They came well prepared, well staffed, and the crew worked with great efficiency. They even took a leaf blower and completed the job by cleaning up both the front and back yard. I'm extremely disappointed with the recent services performed in my yard by Cheap Charlie Tree Service. On October 1, 2016, the owner Charlie came to my yard to inspect a tree I wanted removed. He gave me a $ 395.00 estimate for the tree and stump removal. 2 days later October 3, 2016 and to my bewilderment, Charlie quoted a much higher estimate of $ 500.00 for the same exact work expected to be done on that tree. Being recently windowed I decided against my better judgement and agreed to contract Cheap Charlie Tree Service. The work they performed was completely unsatisfactory. A large pile of wood chips and debris from the tree were left behind and they never removed the tree's roots. After calling Cheap Charlie Tree Service to voice my displeasure, I was told by them that the removal of the roots is an additional cost. At no time during the 10/1/2016 & 10/3/216 estimates was this mentioned and I was totally under the impression the removal of the roots was part of the overall job. Why would I think differently? If I want a tree removed, I want all parts of the tree removed!! Cheap Charlie Tree Service had no problem removing the stump. I don't think it is fair how this company (who has all the expertise in this profession) can take advantage and scam consumers who are in need. I hired Cheap Charlie's to remove several trees from my property. In the process they destroyed my lawn, plants, and steel edging.

I had to have 3 or 4 trees removed from my property. 2 if them were dying and about to fall... I called Cheap Charlie's and the office staff was extremely helpful and actually seemed concerned about my situation. The estimator showed up on time and gave me a great price. Well I can only be jerked around for so long . Cheap Charlie's Tree Service has been jerking me around. I didn't notice that they broke the top of my chimney . The foreman walked me around to show me how nice they cleaned up and I didn't notice the damage to the chimney because I wasn't looking up only looking at the stumps and the ground . Well when Debbie came home she noticed the damage to the top of the chimney . Good thing I took pictures before they got here !! This was on Tuesday . To date I have a dozen calls into the main office, the estimator and the mason who was to fix it . Nothing but excuses . The owner , Charlie , won't even take my call . Well we are expecting 50 mph winds and heavy rain tomorrow . If there is any additional damage to my roof , chimney or the brand new furnace due to water getting into the damaged chimney my first call Monday will be to my attorney and Suffolk Consumer Affairs .
