I love this scratch kitchen chain. If you want to feel like you are genuinely getting a home cooked meal then this place is going to hit the spot. The fresh croissants with honey butter and a large drink to start then get some appetizers like the onion rings. There are so many options and each portion is large so don't let your eyes get ahead of your stomach. I got the painkiller cocktail that is just straight liquor so there is a limit of 2 per customer so please drink responsibly. Try the flavored lemonades and ice teas as you get unlimited refills which is a great deal! The fried white fish was so crispy and flavorful. I paired it with the green beans and sweet carrots. My companion got the smokehouse bacon burger and that sauce was amazing! If you save room, get the giant carrot cake or skillet cookie! This restaurant is very dark on the inside so it can be hard to see perfectly. There were ample accessible parking spots. The flooring is a little slick but all one level which is nice. Stopped by an old favorite but never visited this location before. Upon arrival was greeted promptly and seated. Very kind wait staff. There is a large seating area and a bar area as well. Ordered the chip and queso with beef appetizer. This was very delicious and the chips were warm, thin and not salty which is perfect in my opinion. The queso with beef was creamy and so good. Server forgot about getting our food. Appetizer onion rings were gross and tasted like they haven't changed the fryer oil in decades. The sirloin was literally inedible. While my party enjoyed their lunch and our server was very nice and attentive, I chose the Cheese steak sandwich for something that was a bit more healthy. ( I removed one side of the bread). We waited over 45 minutes to get our food and our waiter had to come to our table several times to tell us they were out of something or had to repeat our order to us. They were so tough that I couldn't even cut them apart with a knife. They did remove them from the bill. First time dining at a Cheddar's and I enjoyed it. Love the croissants to start with the condensed sweet milk drizzled on top. The meals were not bad. Had the chicken pot pie, Monte Cristo (four thick servings, but so greasy) and salmon. The best part was our waitress. I believe her name is Maleea (blonde with a lisp). Generous star rating here as it started at about three stars, then vibed downward. In a real pinch or bad weather, they'll do. Pulled in for lunch as the weather toyed with travelers. The place was basically empty but with plenty of staff. For some reason, it still took a while to be seated. That happens, but maybe they should have spent the extra time inspecting silverware. Caked on food from someone else's dining experience is gross, unacceptable and entirely preventable. If this is and has been an issue in the past - check your silverware before sending it out. Were my circumstances really the first occurrence? Better yet, if that's too hard just serve food with plastic-wrapped sanitary plasticware until your washing situation is figured out. It may be embarrassing, but not as embarrassing as silverware with unsolicited leftovers. Besides that unsettling image - the food was fine and service fair besides also forgetting my dining partner's soup. Thanks Cheddar's, you gave us something to talk about but no reason to come back. We found this place on Yelp and opted to give it a try and we are glad we did. First and foremost, our sever, a woman named Martha, was incredible. Fast, personable and attentive. A real asset to this business. The building is beautiful and well kept inside and out. It has a very unique and appealing debit I really enjoyed. Especially the colorful fish. The food came out quite quickly for the type of place it is. A slightly higher end sit down type place akin to a Red Lobster. Today's experience has clearly declined significantly. They were out of many menu items, and even after we placed our order, more items became unavailable. Had we known the extent of the shortages, we would not have stayed. The restaurant itself appeared dirty and run down. While the staff seemed to be doing their best, it was clear they were struggling due to a lack of supplies and deliveries. Additionally, the fryer oil seemed old and not properly maintained, which affected the taste of the food--everything that was fried had an unpleasant, stale flavor. I was traveling in the area and decided to stop at Cheddar's for dinner since we don't have one back home. I went in the evening on a week day and it wasn't very busy. Inside had a relaxed ambiance, not too noisy for a restaurant. The service was excellent! I received fresh honey butter croissants within minutes of my server brining me water. The croissants were amazing!! I would go back just for them. For my entree I ordered the monte cristo but turns out I'm not a fan. Cheddars Scratch Kitchen actually feels like a joke of a name after eating here. Nothing looks or tastes like it was made from scratch, the whole restaurant feels like a Dennys/Applebees hybrid. We only came here because the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed for a private event and I thought Cheddars had a good menu and I figured you couldn't mess up chicken tenders. Well. It took FOREVER to get our food, and when we did get it, it was SO COLD!! Like inedible cold. I didn't ask for anything else because the service was really odd, it was busy but when I walked to the bathroom, I saw like five servers just hanging around in a group, chatting, so it was confusing why service was almost nonexistent. My fiancé got a rack of ribs and only ate one bite, I took my food home to eat later but I just threw it away. Also, the whole restaurant is a labyrinth, terrible floor design. Last but not least, I ordered a drink called the Painkiller, it was a order limit of two per person so I assumed there was a lot of liquor in it but when I got it, I literally only tasted pure syrup, tasted like something that would make you sick before you finished the whole thing. Limit of two??? I can't even imagine someone finishing one. I asked the waitress for a Long Island iced tea instead and I will say, it was REALLY good. A PERFECT Long Island iced tea. The hostess said it was going to be 30 minutes but it was about 10 to be seated. We grabbed some drinks at the bar. I had the island tiki cocktail which was pretty good! Not too strong and not too sweet. Also the strawberry margarita was okay. It did have pieces of strawberries in it if you're not into that. I ordered the ribs and coconut shrimp. The coconut sauce was very sweet and not my favorite but the shrimp tasted good anyways. The ribs fell right of the bone and were a bit spicy. Really enjoyed them. I strongly prefer non-chain restaurants but had an occasion to visit family who likes them. After some debate we chose Cheddars, mostly because this chain doesn't have a location near St. Louis so it was new to me. Decor was fine, restaurant wasn't crowded. Seemed kind of tired but nothing overtly worn or dirty. I was pleasantly surprised to get a plate of croissants for free after seeing them on the menu. There were 5 of us and we got 4 croissants so it was a little disappointing. After trying them I wasn't sad at all that there wasn't one for everyone. They weren't very good and we didn't even finish what we had. Table ordered 2 sirloin steaks (kind of bummed that only choices were sirloin and ribeye), lemon pepper chicken, and a split of Cajun pasta. Side salads were delivered first. Ceasar was tasty but waaayyy too much cheese. One cup of soup was forgotten. Pasta was not split and a second plate wasn't provided, even though we said were were splitting on ordering. A long wait for a plate and we ended up just using the bread plate. Pasta was cold. Plenty of meat (sausage, chicken, shrimp), very few veggies. Shrimp was undercooked. It tasted good but hard to enjoy cold. Companions said steaks were tasty (very heavily seasoned) but both were undercooked. One enough that a chunk couldn't be eaten. Lemon pepper chicken was decent and 2 breasts, so a good portion. Sides were pretty small portions. Potato soup was ok but not finished by either companion that ordered it. Lots of wait time between ordering, salads, entrees, and check. Strange since they weren't busy. Waiter was friendly and refilled drinks, but I noticed that he carried a huge handful of paper-wrapped straws in his actual front jeans pocket (not an apron) so that was pretty gross. We had eaten at another Cheddar's location previously (several times). We were driving across Missouri and were approaching Columbia around lunchtime. I checked on restaurants online while someone else was driving, and I noted a Cheddar's. We opted to dine here rather than gamble on a complete unknown. This was a Sunday just past noon; unsurprisingly there was a short (~ 10 minute) wait. There was no parking left up front (most of that was empty to-go spaces) so we parked around back. We waited in the shade a few yards from their entrance. After the wait, we got seated. The layout/decor of this place seemed pretty much a replica of the Cheddar's in GA that we'd visited. Maybe they are all the same? Service was initially a bit slow; I chalked that up to matching patronage vs. servers in COVID-time. Once our waitress showed up, things were fine. We reviewed the (semi-limited) menu and everyone found some acceptable dish. My veggie plate (which I had not ordered previously) was good, and just about the right amount of food. My wife got a salad and it was too large for her. My daughter got their version of jambalaya, which she wasn't that taken with. To be fair, I'm not sure that Cheddar's is really the most likely venue for top notch New Orleans cuisine; maybe go with something a bit more generic? In all, it was fine.
