The food is great improvement from when I was last there 8-10 years ago. Service was good and food was hot and well prepared.

First lets start with service, not great, I went to order food and when I said i wanted cottage fries she said no no no that's nasty get steak fries instead, I said eh I I don't think and then she cut me off and said trust me those are nasty get steak fries so I just said whatever and got them and coleslaw with my burger, which I wasn't asked how I wanted cooked, fiancé got a burger, wasn't asked either, and kids got chicken strips. The steak fries were nasty, just plain fries, no salt or anything, both burgers were dry and no seasoning, and chicken strips, you guessed it, bland and dry, zero seasoning, close slaw was hot and watery, nasty flavor, mother in laws cottage cheese was warm and tasted off, like come on now, it's sad that frozen fries and chicken from Sam's Club is miles better than this garbage, I'm honestly upset that we payed almost $50 for that crap. I would have said something about how bad the food was but not one time were we asked how the food tasted or if we liked anything, even when I didn't touch the Coleslaw and gave the fries away she never said anything about it, also the place is small and cluttered, very outdated design and furniture, will never be going back and do not recommend at all! read more

Passing through at supper time and google-found this place. I would give food 3.5 stars overall as the food quality was OK on the buffet. Solid buffet food...fried chicken, fried catfish strips (these were very good) and BBQ meatballs rounded out the proteins. Salad bar was stocked well but I didn't get any. Stopped in for lunch today while at the Apple Festival. They were packed and only offered their buffet. It was very good. Everything was hot and fresh and well and well stocked. The desserts were very good. As busy as they were ALL of the servers and staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Excellent customer service and attitude. A tip of the hat to you. So I stopped in to get a bite to eat on the way to Osage Beach needless to say I left faster than I got there floors were dirty services for plus food. I highly suggest if you think you're going to stop in at pioneer restaurant keep on going and sanitary place to eat . Not worthy of a star! read more

We absolutely love this place. We regularly eat the weekend dinner buffet. Wonderful home style cooking!!! Best catfish and fried chicken and they always have an excellent 3rd protein choice. Went there yesterday ordered a Patty melt it was fantastic the meat melted in my moth. The service is fantastic and it's a place that doesn't rush you out. I saw no cleaning in between family's leaving and coming to tables. The staff was rude. Drinks stayed warm even with ice (assuming cups). Really bland food. Best thing here was a salad made by me from the salad bar. Which the salad bar and food bar is together one single bar! Oh and within about 30 minutes you will have explosive diarrhea which is terrible when traveling and just passing through. Photo below is the good salad. read more

We had the buffet, it was at the end of the lunch buffet, abbey was our waitress. She is new at waitressing but she did a good job serving us and keeping up with our drinks and deserts. The meatloaf had bbq on it, we are used to meatloaf with ketchup, but this was really good, the pie good. We have eatin here a couple times and will be back again read more

Saw cars and we were hungry. Oh my was that a great decision!! Had a dinner buffet, which is not normal for me. When we walked in the food smelled fantastic and very fresh! Fried chicken was crispy outside and moist inside and NOT greasy. The bbq pork was excellent. The catfish looked amazing but didn't eat any. Although many others were enjoying. The buffet included salad and dessert bar. The cobblers were warm! Had 4 different cakes but didn't try them. $13.99 for all of it. Highly recommend! This place has something for everyone! read more

Ordered fried chicken breasts, looked more like big chicken strips but tasty and juicy, mashed potatoes, cole slaw. Food was good. 3 star because server was not efficient although friendly. Buffet was not all that appetizing. I would try it again to see if it was better and some folks may be quite happy with the choices. Menu has a large selection. read more

When you go to these small towns, there usually isn't much choice on where to eat. You either hit up a fast food joint or you cross your fingers and eat at one of these places. This is straight up restaurant supply food, nothing surprising, or fancy, just filling, regular old comfort food. When we walked in, one of the four servers yelled at us to sit anywhere. So we did and we waited for a menu and water....and we waited, and waited and waited. Until finally I stopped one of the young girls and asked her for a menu. The older lady came over, dropped off two menus and said " Oh, I didn't know it was my turn to take care of customers." HA!! Seriously girl? There were three tables of customers in there when we walked in and four servers...and we had to call for a menu? They have an all you can eat breakfast bar which looked decent, but the biscuits were pure Sysco/restaurant supply all the way.Big glasses of ice cold sweet tea was the saving grace. There is a very nice meeting room in the back of the restaurant that looks like it's the center of the community. One of the main reasons they lost a star was the deathly quiet of the restaurant. I appreciate a mellow place to eat as much as the next person, but when everyone is talking in a hushed tone and not even a radio is playing somewhere, it's almost painful. Btw, the restroom was spotless. Btw, we have heard from locals that the Pioneer is not on the top of anyone's list of places to eat. read more
